Subscribe to a thread without having to post in it

Several of our members would like to be able to subscribe to threads without having to post in them, and be able to have the email, pm, or notification alert options, for when someone does post in a the thread they are subscribed to.

Is something like this possible in? If so, is there anyone that could help me out? I would truly appreciate help from a friendly coder :) Our site uses custom templates.

click on the thread tools > Subscribe to thread button.

click on the thread tools > Subscribe to thread button.From what I can see looking at the OP's site, that native function has been removed in the custom style they use.
