I have been stuck on an older version (5.0) of VB for some time now because GoDaddy refuses to upgrade their MySQL. I was looking around for a good replacement host, but don't like the way a lot of these hosting companies have gimmicky advertising and force you to buy a minimum of 12 months. With GoDaddy I can pay monthly.

Does anyone have any recommendations for hosting that has MySQL versions that work with the current VB5 version?

Almost any reputable webhost will offer monthly payment options.

www.asmallorange.com (http://www.asmallorange.com)
www.eleven2.com (http://www.eleven2.com)
www.hostgator.com (http://www.hostgator.com)
www.bluehost.com (http://www.bluehost.com)

I tried to sign up with hostgator and bluehost and they make you buy a minimum of a year hosting, then they bill you monthly.

We use Hivelocity.net as do a bunch of our mod users. No 12 month signup stuff required there. If you mention in their live sales chat DragonByte Technologies sent you they should give you an additional discount as well (Instead of receiving the affiliate/referral money we just ask them to pass the savings on) :).

They're not the cheapest in the world but they are very reasonably priced and are recognized as having some of the best/quickest support :)

I recommended ASO because they're very upfront with what they give you on their services. Their customer support has been good to me.

Take a look at http://www.ramnode.com/ I don't use them because they only have US servers and my site is offshore but they are really good to their customers.

They're widely popular in the webhosting section of reddit.
