What is Draft Posts?
Draft Posts allows users to save a post as a draft which can be reused later as a template or draft for a new post. Each Post can be saved as a Draft copy by one click at the foot of each postbit or checking an option when creating a new post. All available Drafts are displayed below the bottom Reply button on the Show Thread pages. All Drafts can be deleted from the User Control Panel area.

Clicking on Drafts from settings gives this error:

vBulletin Message
The Draft Posts product has been deactivated by an administrator.

Add-on is enabled in Options. I am an admin and it is enabled for admins in the usergroup permissions.

Clicking on Reply with Draft in a thread gives the same error.

Clicking on Draft this Post also gives the same error.

Also, as it stands, a member seemingly can save someone else's post as a draft. That shouldn't be allowed, should it?

Fixed this bug. Thanks for the report. Just redownload the files and then upload them to your server to patch it.

Depends. A draft is a template/rough copy of what you want to post. You can easily copy another user's post without using the draft this post option, so all it's doing is saving someone the hassle of typing/copying it. For that reason I wouldn't view it as an issue and I suspect most users won't use it for what you suggest. The exceptions might be moderators or admins who want to have a standard post ready to use.

I'm open to suggestions though, so feel free to throw some ideas my way and I'll see what I could reasonably include. :)

How about an option to allow other member's posts which could be disabled? I can see that being confusing to my members to be honest.

Still one bug: I don't see anyone to begin a new draft. I can save an existing post and that then appears in the list of drafts but I can't create a new one or rename an old one, as far as I can tell. Am I missing something?

If you click on the drafts in the reply with draft list then you will be taken to a new reply to the thread that will already include the content of the draft ready for you to post or edit before posting.

At the moment it's not possible to rename a draft. I'll add that in for the next version.

It's not possible at the moment (although you can reply to an existing thread and then copy the text before pasting it into the new thread you want to start), but I'm sure we can add that in to the next update. :)

Slight update to the files for those having issues getting the copyright management mod to work with it.

After some feedback today we're release version 1.0.1 of Draft Posts! This update adds the ability to start a thread using a saved draft and also fixes some style issues with post draft buttons on the showthread pages and is available for download in the opening post.

At the bottom of each forum page there is now the option to use a draft as the starting post in a thread. Like with the showthread option, simply select the draft from the menu and the new thread page loads with the draft in the editor ready to modify or post.

The fixes to the styling also means the buttons now reflect the design of the regular new reply or new post buttons. As part of the fix there are also two stylevars that are used to help adjust the positioning of the buttons properly. If you find the theme you use doesn't space the buttons properly, then simply adjust the stylevars to fine tune the positioning.

The full change log is here:

Fix: Formatting on Showthread page for Draft Posts button/menu.
Fix: Corrected phrase 'dbtech_draftposts_post_with_draft'.
Fix: Posts saved as drafts without a title now use a phrase for the draft title.
Fix: Missing admin permissions.
Feature: Ability to create a draft from the forumdisplay using the 'Post with Draft' button/menu.
Feature: Ability to save a draft from the newthread page using a checkbox option.
Feature: 2 StyleVars that contain numeric values to adjust the spacing of the reply and new thread buttons as is needed.

Can the button on the bottom of posts be made smaller? Just an icon? Takes up too much space with the "draft this post" text.

sticky
01-12-2013, 03:38 AM
Ok I see all the buttons, very nice. Just would like an icon rather than the whole "draft with post" as there is too much in that real estate and on mobile devices it gets all jumbled.

I might be able to add in an image only option in the settings. Will see how I can implement it.

is it possible to schedule the draft to publish at specific time. That would be most useful for my moderators team to make new drafts and schedule it so they could start a new thread daily, without even loggin in. How about that, possible?

Hi everyone,

Today brings version 1.0.2 od Draft Posts and is available download. This update fixes some minor bugs as well as an issue with styling for users with no inline moderation permissions. To solve this problem a new StyleVar has also been introduced which can be adjusted to fix the issue on custom styles.

Thanks to everyone who keeps posting ideas for the mod, and those dedicated users who make sure we can identify and solve the bugs within the product.

The full change log is here:

Fixed: Missing cached templates.
Fixed: Issue with Reply with Draft Button overlapping the Reply button when normal users are browsing a thread.
Feature: New StyleVar to fix the spacing gap for the Reply with Draft Button.

@DragonByte Tech,
this is an excellent mod!

my team and i, use it a lot.
i miss only one feature and i would be very happy to see it included in future release.
i need to:
create a draft post (or many) and then i want this draft post to be copied to some usergroups (and every user of these usergroups can have it in their existing draft area), so these usergroups users can use it to create a specific type of threads.
if this is possible, the result will be for my users to create easily complicated posts.
posts with too many bbcodes, tables etc.

is this possible?

thank you again @DragonByte Tech for this perfect (for me at least) mod :)

DragonByte Tech

Hmmm, just realized I'd not seen your post. Sorry for the delayed response. There is already something like that that DragonByte have, called Post Templates (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=277323). Is that the sort of thing you are wanting? If it's not quite what you need, I will have a look at what we can do to expand Draft Posts to fit in with your needs. :)

Sorry for the long wait for a reply... the thread got marked as read before we saw yours...

To answer your question, the StyleVar: dbtech_draftposts_reply_spacer is what you will need to adjust. Adjusting that value will bring the draft post higher up both the showthread and forumdisplay page (by the looks of the screenshot, the showthread is lower than it should be).

Let me know if that helps. Try a few different values to adjust it and see what looks best. :)

Hi,
I just installed this mod on our board but I have the same problem as already described in post #46.https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2015/12/18.jpg
I now want to change the Stylevar: dbtech_draftposts_reply_spacer as mentioned but I'm not as good in this coding as I obviously should.
I would like to get the button next to the Reply button but to be honest I don't really know where to start.
I hope you can help me.

EDIT:

I found the code to add on your forum. Now everything works fine.

Running vBulletin 4.1.3pl8..

Downloaded and installed v1.06 of this mod for testing.

Enabled under usergroup for Admin only at this point. (me)

I'm not sure what is wrong, but I don't see any option to select a draft when creating a new thread?

Regards,
Doug

Update: Besides under "Reply to Thread", I found the other "Post with Draft" button at the bottom of the forumdisplay list. Of course when I try to use it, a thread can't be created there, because it's just a list of all forums, not the threads within a forum. When I select and switch to an actual forum that can be posted to and check the bottom to create a new thread with a stored draft, the "Post with Draft" button isn't there. In other words, the "Post with Draft" is appearing at the wrong level under a display forum names and not under the display of threads within a forum.

Edit: Tested.. thanks to the author for developing it... uninstalled as we couldn't get it to work on our site.
