Recently my forum started showing images as attchments.

Repro:
Click "Insert image" in a post
Choose any image
click ok

result:
image never comes up in WYSIWYG editor
instead this text appears: ###

The file does get uploaded and is accessible to all users.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

The only real change I made recently was to move to PHP5.4.

Thanks

I believe it's a BBCode / Browser issue.

Are you sure you are using the WYSIWYG editor and not the Source editor (they get toggled right there in the editor)?

I use the WYSIWYG editor.
Both the simple and complex one fail in both FF and Chrome.
I voted for one one the issues, but they don't seem to be exactly the issue I am having.

I'll try some trouble shooting with the source editor once I renable it.

A curious detail:
After adding an image it appears as an attachment "[attachment]123[attachment]" in the body of the WYSIWYG editor.

I can then add the attachment using the drop-down of the attachment icon. This adds and displays the image properly in the editor. The image management dialog pops up as expected.

When I save the post, the images all revert to attachments (simple links). showthread.php displays no images. Edit that post again, and I see images in the editor just like I did when I saved the post.

Do you have a custom style? Do you have any modifications? Can we get a link to see a post with this problem.

I fixed the problem, but I don't know what caused it.

I noticed that any new images did not have a thumbnail in the attachment manager. Everything displayed as the default "?" thumbnail.

So I rebuilt the thumbnails in "Control panel -> Maintenance". That not only made the thumbnails appear, but also made the image upload process work again. I can now upload images again. It does not look like I'll have to rebuild the thumbnail cache again.

There is something wrong in the source, for sure. I did not find the problem yet. I'll search some more, but without an error and stack trace I'll have a hard time finding the problem.

Just to reply:
Everything is custom about my site. Custom hacks, plugins,... you name it.
This post (http://www.hingmy.com/content.php?163-Milwaukee-6509-22-Sawzall-review) caused all the trouble, but it works now.

This was caused by running on PHP 5.4. Reverting to 5.3 fixes the issue.

Thumbnail creation does not work.

I guess VB does not support PHP5.4.
At least not now.
