Hi I am new in vbulletin and I would like to know how to upgrade security patch for vBulletin 4.1.12? I cannot understand the instruction here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=281962). Please help.

First download the patch file and unzip it. Then upload the files to your server. If a file is in a folder, then it goes to the corresponding folder when you upload it to your server. Then (step 4) run install/upgrade.php (you do this by entering www.mysite.com/install/upgrade.php into your browser, using your own domain name of course).

When that's done, continue with step 5 (and post here if you need more help).

Don't you need to delete install.php from Installs folder and config.php.new from Includes folder before uploading to server?

Only if you were updating using the full download. The instructions linked in the first post are for the patch file.

That should be with your original vb4.1.12 download (or maybe you already have it in your install folder). If not you'll have to download the full vb4.1.12 PL2 package again and get it from there (or else just upgrade using that).

thank you very much for your help :) now i know what to do. one more thing. is it advisable to upgrade the security patch of my site (vbulletin 4.1.12) before upgrading to vbulletin 4.2? or if ill upgrade my site to vbulletin 4.2 do i still need to upgrade the security patch?

If you upgrade to vb4.2.0 you don't need to worry about the security patch.

I didn't realise there were different procedures for adding the patch as for upgrading. I added the patch the long route around yesterday with the full download.

Learnt something new there.

I didn't notice the patch files myself until recently. I guess it doesn't make any difference unless you've modified some vb files and only want to do the minimum update.

Nice to know a quicker method though, rather than uploading all those files every time, like I have been doing!!! Less risk too. I didn't even notice the patch download at the time. lol I have now ;)
