Thanks.

The content link is for if you want to link to an external page to further discuss the item you have in the content. As an example, lets say you were have an event, and you had an event page set up somewhere on your site. From the slider, you would want to link to that event page, and you would do it via that link.

The content image url is just the url to the image you want displayed for that custom content. Along the same lines as the event above, if you had a banner for the event, put the url to the banner image in that box and the banner would be displayed inside the slider.

Does that answer your questions?

Tried it on our 4.1.10 test forum. After enabling it on forumhome, the forum home simply didn't load, and would stall at loading forever. Turning it off brings things back to normal. Will keep an eye on this, but for some reason it's just not co-operating with our setup right now.

I've set it to pull 5 Contents I've set up but it will only pull into the slider 2 of them.

Also it could really do with some sort of picture re size built into it, the pictures it pulls come through way to big
This is the same when you pull them to the slider via a Thread or Article

Have you tried re-uploading the files and/or reimporting the product? I've seen this happen once or twice during testing and development, but could never figure out why. It was always fixed by re-uploading the files and reimporting the product.

It shouldn't causing that extreme of issues, but do you have any other jQuery mods installed? In the cases that I have seen with conflicts with other jQuery mods, the slider will still load, but nothing will show up.

If you can narrow it down in anyway, I will work to try to figure out the issue.

Are you sure you have the content types active, as well as set to display in the appropriate location? Each custom content type (that's what I'm assuming you are talking about) can be independently disabled, as well as independently be shown on either forumhome, the cms, or both. I'd check those, and if you still have issues, let me know.

As far as the image resizing goes, that is on the list of things to fix for a future version. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to go about it, considering the size of the slider can be so different between different sites.

Yes, it was just delayed in showing after I made them, all showing now thanks

Although as it's pulling the images from an outside url the quality of the pictures are really low.
Not sure why.

No other jQuery using mods that I'm aware of. Our mod list is quite extensive, so narrowing it down might be a little tough. I'll try the update here in the morning, see if it fixes things.

What Internet browser do you use?
We tried it on Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE, from the computers of multiple staff members in different countries. Same issue was experienced by all.

Great mod! *again*
I'm using a modified footer and I the copyrights look like this:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/
But when I install the slider (which works perfectly) the footer changes and it looks like this:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/
Any way to fix that? FIXED!
And I know this probably isn't an option, but if possible, would it be okay to move the copyright to the footer instead of having it where it currently is? I don't mind having the copyrights but I just don't really like how it looks down there. lol

New Joe

Glad you got it fixed. I had another person have the same problem with a custom theme and it had to do with duplicate naming of the div class between the slider and the theme. I plan on correcting this in the next version.

As far as the copyright, the ability to move it to the footer is part of the pro version. I will look into possibly making it part of the lite version as well.

Will wait for the product to be able to re-size images it pulls in, before installing it again.

As I mentioned before (somewhere?), I am trying to figure out the best way to resize the images to fit inside the slider. The main issue comes down to admins having the ability to size the slider how ever they want via the Stylevars. And then there is the issue with the pulling of the image from the content. If I fit the pictures to the height of the slider, then an image in a post that is, lets say 200px wide by 600px tall, is now going to look small inside of a slider that is 200px tall (the image will be about 67px wide by 200px tall), and there will be a lot of background area showing around the image (if the slider is 700px wide, almost 80% of it will be empty).

So yeah, its on the list to do, just trying to figure out what makes the most sense in how to do it.

Without having access to the site, I doubt I can help unfortunately. If you can narrow it down to a mod that is incompatible, then perhaps I can see how to make it compatible.

Just as a test, set all of the counts for threads and blogs, etc., to 0 and see if it still does it. It shouldn't matter, but just trying to see if its getting hung up in some other way.

Hello!
I have a problem.

This mode perfectly works on my forumhome, but does not works (even appear) on CMS.
I'm using last vBulletin 4.1.10.

I've tried re-install product and re-upload all files, but nothing is changed.
I've tried enable\disable jQuery, and change versions of jQuery with no results.
I've checked on my custom and Default styles - still nothing.

Please help!

Definitely a step in the right direction. Needs a few tweeks and I would go Pro instantly.

Image resolution needs to be upped, looks pretty low-res right now and I have a high-res board.

Some sort of re-size method is needed and I know this can be a problem with all that you have mentioned before but I hope something gets worked out because right now I could not use it the way it is.

And finally I think that HUGE drop down screen needs to go. It covers 30-40% of the block the entire time the image is displayed. Get rid of it or the option to get rid of it. How about move it to the bottom in a narrow block like the Nivo slider. That way it won't hide close to half of the screen and block the images underneath it.

Tagged and waiting for the next update.

For the CMS, it is just like any other widget. You need to place the widget into your layout in the location you want it. Hopefully that sorts it out for everyone who asked.

For the drop down screen, you can resize it via Stylevars, just look for the content width stylevar. In the pro version, you have the ability to move the slider to the top, but with the title, message, and link, it still ends up taking up a lot of space.

Not sure on your comment on lo-res... If images in your threads or articles, etc., are small, then this upsizes them (currently) to fit inside the slider, therefore making them appear lo-res. This will happen no matter how I do it. If I keep the image the size it is (so that it appears hi-res), you may end up with a lot of blank space just so the image looks "hi-res". Like I said, maybe I'm just misunderstanding you.

For the CMS, it is just like any other widget. You need to place the widget into your layout in the location you want it. Hopefully that sorts it out for everyone who asked.

Brad

Thank you Brad,
Now I see, that widget named 'vBSlider' was created during installation.

It should be good to enter this information to Readme.txt!

Everyone has different tastes and I just feel a slider should be just that, not a huge obtrusive block hiding everything you are trying to show. Just a suggestion for you to build upon.

I actually made a few posts and made some images up that were sized to fit the slider so no resizing would be required and when I look at them in the forums they look fine but viewing the same image in the slider they look like a jpg compressed to 40 or 50%. Now this was one test and I have not had time to test it anymore so it might be something else. I know they are not "upsizing" as you say so that is not the issue.

All of my images are on the large size and the only way this slider would work is for me to manually re-size them all and that would be no fun. I for one would need no enlarging as it will always look low-res but if this could reduce size that would be great.

Well, I am using vB's built-in attachment system via attachment.php to display the attachments, so I don't see how they should be any different than in the forum. There is nothing in the code that should be changing the quality of the images. I'm not sure what else I can say.

My guess is that for the ones it was really bad for, the images actual width was significantly less than the width of the slider, in which case it was getting upsized.

Hello Brad,
I've found a bug with VBSEO integrated in my portal.

When I click on slider, the link led me to not VBSEO articles or themes and show me only my main CMS or forumhome page.

Example:
http://www.xpam.org/content.php/250-%D0%9F%D1%83%D0%BB%D1%8C%D1%81%D0%B0-%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BD%D1%83%D1%80%D0%B0

Instead of this it must led me to
http://www.xpam.org/content/250-pulsa-denura.html

I'm using Russian language and utf-8 on my portal.

Its an issue with vB and their lack of a friendly URL function that works for the CMS. It is being corrected in 4.1.11 (at least, according the the latest Jira). Until then, you just need to edit the widget.php file in (forum)/dbtech/vbslider/actions/widget.php, search for "content.php" and replace it with "content" (at least that's how it looks given your links), and it should work. If not, let me know.

Ok, so it appears that it's pulling the exact name of the article, which is in ??Russian??, and using those letters in the URL instead of regular letters. Version 1.0.7 has been released, fixing some issues, as well as adding an option to allow admins to define a minimum image dimension for slider images. Basically, this is to make sure small attachments don't get upsized significantly and displayed inside the slider. This DOESN'T fix all the issues with image sizing right now, but it does give you a little bit more control over the images that show up.

I would also like to thank everyone who nominated and have voted for this product for MOTM!

I don't know why it isn't loading the image. It is all there in the page source, but I can watch it in Firebug and the image isn't getting loaded for some odd reason. One thing that I may try is setting up my dev for RTL and see if that has anything to do with it. I don't see why it would, but it's at least worth a look.

I may need a little more information than that, but we'll try for now. In the file widget.php (found in [forum]/dbtech/vbslider/actions), on lines 450 and 460, find the following code snip...

<a href="' . $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/content.php/' . $row[$i]['nodeid'] . '-' . $row[$i]['url'] . '">

Replace the content.php with portal. As I mentioned, we'll have to see, as it may need more changes, usually in the remainder of that code, for the order of the nodeid, dash, and url (123-this-is-your-article). If it is exactly how you show above(this-is-your-article-123), then make the overall code as follows:

<a href="' . $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/portal/' . $row[$i]['url'] . '-' . $row[$i]['nodeid'] . '">

Remember that you must change it on both line 450 (title link) and 460 (read more link). Hope that helps.

DragonByte Tech
03-05-2012, 07:27 PM
How is the image shown in the thread? Is it an attachment or via an IMG tag. The lite version only picks up attachments. The pro version has the ability to use attachments and/or images inside IMG tags. So, with the lite version, if there isn't an attachment, it will default to the default image. With the lite version, the default image is not definable, whereas in the pro version, you can define your own default images for the blogs, threads, and articles independently.

To come back to this issue, I figured out a potential cause to this while working on someone else's slider who was having similar issues. The problem is, if you don't take into account the borders of the slider, and size the image to the size of the slider as specified in the StyleVars, then the image is actually being resized slightly, resulting in a "blurry" or lo-res image. On the user's site I was working on, it ended up that if the slider was sized 12px wider than the actual image, then it would look exactly how it does outside of the slider.

With that said, how the slider handles images will be overhauled in a future release, as I have come up with some further ideas on this, which hopefully will result in better performance as well as better looking images. I don't have a timeline for this fix just yet, but it is definitely in the planning stages.

A few ideas for you guys to improve this module...

- Change slide feature to show text from right to left (instead of top to bottom as it is now).
- Add left and right arrows so users can scroll back and forth manually.
- Give admin the ability to change the time between slides.
- Ability to run multiple sliders showing different info, I want one slider for forums 1-3, another for 4-6, and another one for the CMS articles.
- Ability to load graphics within the admin panel.
- Scaling attachment background images - reduce size to fit the width at least.
- Size configurable in the admin control, not the theme variables.

That's it for now... ;)

This is a "must have" in pro version. I'd like to have it soon ;)

Another thing: the option to resize the height and width of textblock and the transparency.

You can already resize the width of the textblock via stylevars. The height is purely based on the height of the slider (left and right content) or the amount of content (top content). Opacity is hardset, but I could possibly add that as a stylevar as well.

As far as the prev/next and all that, its in the plans for v3, which I am planning to be a major overhaul of the entire thing. :D I will say its in the design stages, and I hope to be in the development stages sometime soon. It'll probably still be awhile before its ready though, unfortunately. :(

Great mod, thanks for it!! I do have a question though.
Any way to have the image that is "fit" in the slider to be centered instead of pulling from the top? I find that it would work fine to show the center section of images that ar too tall for the slider.

www.surthriv.com/SURTHRIV (http://www.surthriv.com/SURTHRIV)

It appears the issue is that you are having it pull 10 articles, but you only have 5-6 articles total on the site, so its causing that to duplicate some of the articles. Try lowering the latest article count to 3-5 and see if that fixes it.

Brad

EDIT: Disregard that comment, as it should only display the max number of slides as there are available content items. So if you only have 5 articles, but have it set to display the 10 most recent, it should only display what's available, which is 5. What are your settings for the CMS slider? (screenshot?)

I can't replicate this at all. Any way you can PM me login details for the ACP so I can try to troubleshoot it on the actual site?

As far as the next version, I am hoping to get it out in the next couple of months, but I can't guarantee anything unfortunately. As far as manual code edits, with the way it is currently coded, if the image is centered, then the text area will be completely screwed up. :(

Just installed on 4.1.11. It has potential, but, slows down my website so bad that it kills MySQL. I get a lot of "mysqlserver has gone away" errors after running it for just a few minutes. I really like it and would pay if you can get around the lag and the sql errors.

Same here. I would like to buy this product.

Same here. I would like to buy this product.

How many items were you trying to load into the slider when you experienced the MySQL issues? Once the content it initially loaded, it never hits the database again until the page is loaded again, so it causing the database to go away seems odd to me.

But yes, the next version should help this issue out.

The file does in fact exist in the download, as I just checked, so please try to upload all of the files again. Perhaps there was an issue when you originally uploaded the files. Since the error is a missing file, it should be easy enough to look for it in the location listed via FTP or your host's file manager.

Ok, in the file /dbtech/vbslider/actions/widget.php, on or around line 456, find the following:

$static .='<a href="' . $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/content.php/'
Replace

/content.php/

Do the same for line 466 (or around that).

I'll have to see if something changed recently (perhaps the friendly URL bug in the CMS) which caused that to change. If so, it'll be fixed in the upcoming release.

Any chance of getting a couple options in a future release?

1. Option to allow only Threads started by specified usergroups to go in the slider?

2. Option to allow Threads with specified "Pre-Fixes" to go in the slider (so if someone has a heavy use or Prefixes they could choose to only have something like "news" go in there.

3. Option to allow certain content on Specified Forums. (Different forums have different topics so instead of something that was more "global" this would allow for you to choose which content is see specifically in that forum's slider.

In any case, #1 would be huge for me since I could eliminate my CMS and #2 and #3 would help me eliminate the blog feature and compete with other Blogs

I don't have permission to view the link you posted, even with the account. But, I did look at your site and I did see a slide with no image. Looking at the page source via Firebug, it is an invalid attachment that it's trying to load (attachment.php?attachmentid=48&cid=24). You might check your database and try to get more info about attachment ID 48 and see why it isn't loading. Everything else seems to be working just fine though. The thread that links to that attachment currently has a different attachment with it, so perhaps it originally had attachment 48, but was deleted and replaced? If that attachment is still associated with the thread, that might be the problem. I'll see if I can recreate it...

I realized your looking at the wrong image as well. Look under Game design tab on the CMS, you can see the slider with nothing, when I went to edit , I did not see anywhere to add anything but the title. So I thought that was Odd. That first one you where looking at, I took it out and never added another yet since I been testing things to make sure they where working, I used that for the main forum slider part anyways.

Now I like to get the slider to show on the CMS, which I did but no where to add images is the issue now.

DragonByte Tech
08-30-2012, 10:11 AM
You don't "add" images. They are automatically pulled from the thread, article, or blog that is being pulled from the selected sections, forums, or blog categories you have selected from the ACP. If the associated content doesn't have an image in the first post, then there isn't going to be an image in the slider for it.

Unless this slider does not work on the CMS, ??? meaning looking the same as the forums, I want it to look just like the forum one, but for it to do that on the CMS, is the possible?? I figured it would be since the slider does show up, i'm just unsure where to have the images show??? Because if you look the slider is blank. I hope i'm not confusing you.

Ok, I finally found a slider on your CMS here: http://www.divided-allegiance.com/vbulletin/content.php?117-guild-wars-2

And it shows nothing. Have you gone to: ACP->DBTech vBSlider->Options->CMS Settings and selected CMS sections, forums and blog categories, as well as quantities for each of those, that you want to appear in the CMS? The forum and CMS sliders have different settings areas, so if you haven't set both, that is why you aren't seeing anything on the CMS side.

It works the same between the Forum and CMS. When you say you thought it show 5 images and change every few seconds, are you talking about 5 images from the same article? Or is it something else that's not working the way you thought? It will only pull the first image from an article/thread/blog. If that's not what you mean, expand further on what you are wanting, as perhaps its just a setting issue.

I was hoping I could add images to my CMS like a home page since I use it as my home page with like around 5 images showing certain games and it changes between them on the CMS, I see I have to add it to like an article or blog for it to show, I have not seen how to do it any other way, which I don't really care for, like right now the same images are showing on my forum slider and the CMS. No matter what I do thats what it does, which I want different ones.

DragonByte Tech
09-07-2012, 01:05 AM
There is a new version, currently in closed beta, that has better options for the images. Its still not 100% perfect unfortunately, but I feel it is a big improvement over the current version. The new version adds a lot of new functionality, which to me was needed more than the image resizing. With that said, image manipulation will most likely be the next on the list.

I love most of your mods but i think many times we are being ripped off in to buying the Pro version for such things that would be great in the lite version

Would you consider adding the ability to grab the first image from a thread to show in the slider instead of the attachment to the lite version ?

Many thanks for the mod regardless

Awesome sauce with this one :) Thank you for the custom content, exactly what I needed. I modified the css with a couple tweaks to reposition the images, hope that was ok.

=/ Kind of a confusing statement there to be honest. Either you think the pro versions are ripoffs, in which case we should be removing features from the lite version and making them pro only, or you think the lite versions should get more pro features, in which case there would be no incentive for people to purchase the pro versions.

The entire idea is to have features people will like/want in the pro version to encourage them to make the purchase :).

We don't tend to move features from pro to lite, so it's extremely unlikely this will happen unfortunately.

Sorry I didn't have better news!

The product will most likely go open Beta this week. As with most of our products, Beta versions are Pro only. Once it goes Gold, a lite version will be released. I figure this should be within the next couple of weeks.

Installed this nice mod on my test server and using it on my CMS pages.
The widget shows fine but I have a small issue with selecting the forums where the info should be pulled:

Can only 1 forum be selected or multiple?
For some reason in my adminCP I have 2 options with same option text (see screenshot).
What is the difference between those 2?
I can select only 1 forum in the first option but in the 2nd option I can select multiple.
However even by doing this and selecting multiple forums in the 2nd option the widget shows only info from 1 forum instead of multiple

Thanks for any help

I've seen this occur on a couple of instances before. I'll need to look back through some reports to see what the reason was. Its an odd issue, as it rarely occurs.

Do you happen to have vBEditorTabs installed as well?

Also can you decide how high and wide the slider as a whole is?

So still no centering image in slider? I was told yes.
My large issue with this plugin is that if oyu have an image that is larger than the slider, it is justified from the top down and you cannot see what is in the photo. It needs to be center left to right and center top to bottom for it to be worth spending money on for me.
Clarify if I have it wrong please.

The images below are from the vBSlider v3, currently in open beta. I need to work on getting it to gold and releasing a lite version for here, but have been working 65+hrs/week the last few weeks at my normal job, so finding time to work on this has been hard.

The username/pw you sent to me doesn't allow me to access the vBSlider admin settings, so I can't troubleshoot that one.

It is showing up fine for me on the CMS. Its not showing on the forum, but that may be because I am not registered? The username/pw you sent doesn't work on this site.

Also, for Pro support, you will get faster responses if you post on the DBT site under the Pro Support forums. Thanks!

I have a problem with the links that product shows. I have the forum link like forum.mysite.com and the cms is located in mysite.com, so the links in the slider looks like www.forum.mysite.com/content.php/132-title-of-the-article and when I click on him it loads www.mysite.com/132-title-ofthe-article when the actual link is www.mysite.com/content.php?r=132-tile-of-the-article. I hope I was clear in my explication and hope it is easy to fix. Thanks!

Yes I am running vbseo, my vbulletin version is 4.2.0

Ok. I don't have vBSEO, so I can't test this out, but please try editing the file /dbtech/vbslider/actions/widget.php.

On line 265, find:
'url' => $rowarticle['url'],
and replace with:
'url' => (version_compare($vbulletin->versionnumber, '4.2.0') >= 0 ? fetch_seo_url('vBCms', $rowarticle,null,'nodeid','title') : $rowarticle['url']),

On line 456, find:
$static .='<a href="' . $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/content.php/' . $row[$i]['nodeid'] . '-' . $row[$i]['url'] . '"><h2>' . $row[$i]['title'] . '</h2></a>';
and replace with:
$static .='<a href="' . ((version_compare($vbulletin->versionnumber, '4.2.0' >= 0)) ? $row['url'] : $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/content.php/' . $row['nodeid'] . '-' . $row['url']) . '"><h2>' . $row[$i]['title'] . '</h2></a>';

On line 466, find:
$static .='<a href="' . $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/content.php/' . $row[$i]['nodeid'] . '-' . $row[$i]['url'] . '">' . $rm . '</a>';

It appears the table didn't get created during the install. You can either try re-running the install (re-import the product), or run the query manually. You can find the query in the file /dbtech/vbslider/install/100.php, starting on line 121. If you have a table prefix on your forum, then replace
" . TABLE_PREFIX . "with your prefix (for example, if your prefix is vb_, then the first line should look as follows: )
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS vb_dbtech_vbslider_customcontent (

If you don't have a table prefix, just delete that part of the code, so the first line would look like
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS dbtech_vbslider_customcontent (Brad

I know there's been updates to this Mod since the summer but am sort of unsure about exactly which features have been added and which ones are on the way. Back in the summer I had asked if a couple of features were going to make their way into this Mod :

Any chance of getting a couple options in a future release?

1. Option to allow only Threads started by specified usergroups to go in the slider?

2. Option to allow Threads with specified "Pre-Fixes" to go in the slider (so if someone has a heavy use or Prefixes they could choose to only have something like "news" go in there.

3. Option to have the vbSlider on Specified Forums. (Different forums have different topics so instead of something that was more "global" this would allow for you to choose which content is see specifically in that forum's slider.

Just curious.

Thanks!
