What is ZopIM?
ZopIM (http://bit.ly/qlSVQ7) is a one 2 one chat client for your website, it has some pretty nifty features such as

Allowing the visitor to initiate chat
Allowing you to initiate chat
IM intergration, use your IM client to talk to visitors
Advance Reporting, see where the visitor is live!

It has both free and paid variations.

The way I see ZopIM being useful is to talk guests through the registration process. You can set ZopIM to automaticlly open a chat with an available rep under certain conditions, so for example a repeat visitor might be more inclined to join if you talk to them.

Or

You could allow your members to request your support with more advanced features of your forum or use it to talk to members who have just breached a forum rule.

What Does This Modification Do?

This modification inserts the ZopIM javascript into your forum, you may also

Enable it for usergroups
Allow users to turn the bar on and off

Install?
Simple two step xml install. Follow the instructions on my website (http://modifications.mod-mall.com/VB-Zopim.html) or in the zip file.

More Features?
Planned..

Forum/Category Control
Anything anyone else cares to suggest

I am not endorsed by ZopIM or it's owners, please check the modification is working correctly by viewing your source code after installation

Interesting :)

So guests can chat with guests, or guests can only chat with specified staff members?

It's one 2 one, between whoever and a agent

You can have more than one agent however

Thanks, this is a nice feature, good for when you've got a community site and want to help out folks. I can see how it could also be used for a commercial entity to provide textchat support, although I think a detachable/movable window would be a helpful enhancement. And video ala webcam!

I've got it installed and running on my vB 4.1.5pl1 site, no problem!

One issue I see is that if a registered user starts a chat, the username from their board isn't transferred, they just show as Visitor (and a long number). It would be nice if the username from the board is displayed to the agent.

I can also understand the pricing, since Zopim is hosting the chat (versus your webserver/provider). And it is very fast, doesn't slow down the site at all. But I gotta say that the pricing is pretty steep. Definitely not for the community board manager who isn't getting paid (much or at all).

Totally agreed.

Besides, great mod - installed and working on 4.20

Your link to the readme on your site is dead, would you please add a readme text doc to the zip file so others may read and use this?

Those that posted here have access to cpanel I would assume. Your host should offer free scripts through Simple Scrips, fantastico or what ever your host may call it.
Within it your should see a few different free one on one chat similar to the one posted here but with more features & is free & will be forever. They will have their own admincp.

Hello Nitra,

I understand this is a pretty old thread, but I thought that maybe you read my reply.

I have VB 5 and use Zopim in many websites.

One of the sites I have this working on is a Moodle (LMS) site. A programmer made the plugin to read the user name from the database when they login, so when someone requests my help, i already know their username.

Do you know if something like this can be done and ported to VB5?

Thanks for your help :-)

I managed to install Zopim easily in vB5 putting the Zopim code in the "Header Ad HTML Module".

Another neat feature would be if the code can somehow read the name of the user from the DB (if they are logged in) so you can quickly know who you're talking to as soon as they initiate the chat.

Any ideas on how can this be achieved?

Thanks
