How do you do Myspace Style Profile Name Mod Rewrites?

I have Mod-rewrite code turned on for Friendly URLS in options.

But for member profiles in .htaccess. I want it to look like this:

http://the8thlegion.com/DRE

Instead of this: http://the8thlegion.com/members/7-DRE

This way members can link friends to their profile easier.

That mod is not worth the headache and its not doing what you want it to do. Requires additional domain. What you need to do is whats in the image below if you want your member profiles to resemble

hxxp://www.yourforum.com/members/$username

Make sure you have the appropriate variables in your .htaccess as well.

What the mod you are talking about is is this...

hxxp://www.newshortdomain.com/$username

will redirect to

hxxp://www.yourforum.com/member.php?u=$userid

or something like that.

If you have your .htaccess setup properly, and the setting in admincp set to what the image displays your member profile URLs will look fine.

hxxp://www.yourforum.com/members/$username

hope I understood you correctly and answered your question.

P.S. For SEO purposes, this is NOT a recommended change if you are not already using this URL style setting.

I have it set to Basic Friendly URLS but a month ago I added mod rewrite Friendly URLs to my htaccess without switching it to mod rewrite. As a result, my traffic stats dropped. LOL... I was wondering why that happened. I am switching it to Mod Rewrite Friendly URLs. Going to try this mod rewrite again. Thanks!
