How do I edit the notifications code?

Anyone know how or where I can edit the code that controls the notifications on top?

What are you trying to do? I ask because it would mean the difference between editing the code in the template(s) or editing the code in the php files.

I'm trying to add notifications for various things... new posts/replies, new threads, etc.

Notices are part of the navbar template, specifically navbar_noticebit - so they already should show on every page the navbar shows, which is basically all of them except registration.
