What is vBulletin-Glossary:

A professional glossary with features like :

crosslinking
attachments in entries using vBullstin attachment system
searchable by using the vBulletin standard search
edit-history just like in wikipedia
synonyms to combine crosslinkings to other words
optional entryfields for more details of entry
vb-SEO compatible
etc.

Installation:

- Upload all files in 'upload' to your server

- set 777-permission for the following directories:
/vbglossar
/vbglossar/backup
/vbglossar/temp
- Import 'product-vbglossar.xml' in AdminCP as Add-On.

Right after the import of the productfile, go and set the usergroups. Afterwards edit the setting in AdminCP (Settings and Crosslinking). Now go to 'manage categories' and create the wanted cats.

Now the glossary should be configured and ready to use.

Updates from previous versions:

Follow the instruction of a new installation, also check the file permissions. After importing the product (overwrite: yes), check the grouprights and the settings of the glossary as there are some new features. In case the entries won't show up, please rebuild the datastore in the tools-section of the glossarin in admincp.

Template Modification:

Edit template 'search.css' and check for the following text

General:

This addon has been developed by the follwing people (a-z): Andreas (http://www.vbulletin-germany.org/member.php?u=1), Captainslater (http://www.vbulletin-germany.org/member.php?u=22), G?rome (http://www.vbulletin-germany.org/member.php?u=19), Surviver (http://www.vbulletin-germany.org/member.php?u=91) and me. We spent every free minute for this project (coding, translation, tests, etc). Also MrD (http://www.vbulletin-germany.org/member.php?u=75) and Ragtek (http://www.vbulletin-germany.org/member.php?u=12) have tested during the time when this addon got developed.

In directory '/tools' you might find a usefull Script by G?rome (http://www.vbulletin-germany.org/member.php?u=19). User of vBCMS will find a module for their portal in directory 'vbcms' which shows a random entry of the glossary.

History:
1.0.0 - First version
1.0.0 PL 1 - Fixed Version by G?rome, users can't write unwnated entries anymore.
1.0.1 - overwork of the code, now working with datastore and datamanager. Also we included some small new features into the addon (e. g. revert entries, inlinemod, etc).
1.0.2 - overwork of the code, bugs removed, a lot of new features
1.0.3 - fixed more small bugs and added new functions (create threads for discussions, more options for crosslinking, better options for mods/admins, etc).
1.0.4 - bugfix-release.
1.1.0 - added more main-features (synonyms can be used now, optional use of entryfields within categories, PDF-functions included, vB-SEO kompatible, TOC-list, etc)
2.0.5 - Version for vBulletin 4.x with additional new features, bugs fixed.
2.0.6 - Version for vBulletin 4.1.4 with small bug fixes.

Sure I do want to keep up the support and no, the way we use the routine for crosslinking doesnt effect the page load at all :)

In both cases. The glossary is one of the very very few addons that uses the build-in search function in vbulletin 4.x. In order to show the small icon in the listbit while the search results get displayed, you need to add this few lines to the css.

If you dont do that, you'll have a missing icon in the listbit results.

Is there any way to limit the number of crosslinks in a post?

Is there any way to limit the number of times the same link is listed in a post? For example if the word "People" was a link and that word appeared 7 times in a post, is there a way to make it so that it only had a link to the first time it appeared and not seven times?

There you can import and export.

And yes, just change the rewrite rules to:

A few Bugs i did run into:

- Displayorder is being ignored (in the Forum, not in the AdminCP)
- Adding a Sub Category to a Sub Category results in the Sub-Sub to be a normal major Category

- HTML on also not working (even if BB and Smilies are deactivated), it just shows the HTML Tags

I am using vB 4.1.1 and HTML works just fine in the normal Forum

Nope, didn't help, I also tried using smaller Numbers (so 1,2,3 instead of 10,20 - I also tried using 100 steps)

Check this, it's already there:

AdminCP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Manager.

There you choose the Forum you want to edit, under 'Enable / Disable Features' you can edit 'Activate crosslinks for this forum?' as another option. You need to change the options under AdminCP -> vBulletin-Glossary -> Crosslinking for this this.

The other way around can be found under AdminCP -> vBulletin-Glossary -> Manage Categories. When editing a category you can set 'Display entries of this category as crosslinks within the forum' to no if you dont want to.

The Glossary has a lot of features everywhere at the needed places to fit the crosslinking to individual needs.

Category images are included, entry images didnt make sense to me. But in general the attachment system can be used for the entries.

Ah, i was thinking in the case of your Google example, the Google logo would appear in the list for their entry. (not just on the actual single entry page, but on lists of multiple entries.)

And i think Arkham Idea is good (if I understood it right), since (yes that again :P) Game Stuff often has Icons (like Items, Champions and so on)

Found another 2 Bugs:

- So far HTML has worked one time (for some reason), but on hitting edit, all HTML Code was gone (and since then HTML hasn't worked again)

- On longer Text, its completely deleting any Format (like from hitting Enter, not the BB Code)

//edit: Got the Displayorder to work:

Sorting on category overview - Choose here the sorting for the category overview. --> has to be user Defined (standard its alphabetical) and then Re-generate datastore. Now it shows as it should ;).

I am having some issues with integrating vbSEO on VB 4.1.1.

I have the custom rewrite rules in place, however there seem to be few things not working.

For reference here are the rules I am running

The following URL's are failing:

Like number 1 if I change the - to a + in both boating-desination and lake-havasu it works.

The last one there is a result of clicking through from a tag in a post. I have vbseo integration turned on in the settings as well. Anyone else seeing this?

Just found another oddity. When I turned it on the plugin broke all my attachement links under VBSEO. The path that should have been myforum/subforumname/attachments/something-something.jpg turned into myforum/subforumname/attachments/something-something-jpg

Note the -jpg that should be .jpg

This is in VB4.1.1 with vbseo installed.

hi, I just added them in vbseo panel, however it doesn't seem to work fully

1, mysite/vbglossar.php changes into mysite/glossary/

2, however, mysiteglossary/tag/some+word/ changes into mysite/glossary/?do=showentry&id=7

Great mod! I guess you have the only vB4 mods with search integration :)

I found two small bugs:

In the vbglossar_mailtofriend template replace
{vb:raw entryname}
with
{vb:raw entry.name}
The mod doesn't work with CSS as files. In the vbglossar_showcat template you have for example:

</vb:if>
But forumdisplay-rollup isn't enough. That rollup doesn't contain all CSS files listed in the else clause. For example memberlist.css is missing in it.
The same goes for the vbglossar_home template. For example toolsmenu.css is missing in it when you have CSS as files.

Solution: create custom glossary rollup xml's with all necessary templates listed in them.

And a suggestion: add custom meta descriptions (and keywords) to the vbglossar_showentry template. Now all entries have the same, default meta information. You need to disable the default ones in headinclude for that with a plugin setting $show['threadinfo'].

Please disregard any of my prior posts on this thread. An uninstall/reinstall of a few plugins resolved all prior issues.

The only strange thing I'm seeing is that images using the IMG BB code tag are being rendered as links instead of images. Attachments show fine, just not inline images.

This is a great MOD BTW.

Any way to make this mod work with words that were entered before the Glossary was installed?

It's working for all new entries, but not the old ones. Say...the word "computer" is in the Glossary, all new threads/posts with that particular word work, but the words that were there, prior, do not.

Any help?

BTW...excellent mod! Two thumbs up!

That means, that you are using the 'ANSI_X3.4-1968'-charset and that this charset does not support the htmlentities (http://php.net/manual/en/function.htmlentities.php) function.

Just try to open 'class_dm_vbglossar_entry.php' and check line 377, outsource
# $popup = htmlentities($popup, ENT_COMPAT, "$stylevar[charset]" );
by adding # at the beginning of the line.

You might find another part of the addon where this error appears; just do this again at the specific parts. That might fix this.

Is this a bug? I'd like to know, please...because it would really be annoying if the same word within a post is parsed more than once.

Also, I had asked, previously, about words that are in the Glossary, but were used in threads/posts before the mod was implemented. How do we make sure these words are parsed, as well. It would seem only new threads/posts are parsed...and not older ones.

Is there a particular reason that the links are being converted to this type of character encoding? When I hit view source the linked word (physically between the a tag) doesn't say "Widget Here" but instead shows the amp code or whatever the name for that is. While it displays fine my guess is that google would rather follow a text link than this.

Can I make a small suggestion? I would like to prevent cross linking from linking back to the current page. eg. I'm viewing a glossary page all about 'potatoes', the word 'potatoes' and the synonyms 'potato' and 'spuds' should not be autolinked within the glossary definition / description because I am already on that page. Is it possible to add this feature or suggest where I might begin looking to edit the PHP?

I did check the settings...that's why I posted here. Are there any known conflicts with other mods?

I made a post today, using one of the words I had in my Glossary and it didn't crosslink. It would seem this mod has a mind of its own.

I just started this thread. It has two different glossary words...one has been used twice and it is crosslinked twice.

These were the settings I had when I made that post.

1. Crosslinking is enabled
2. Global crosslinking is disabled
3. Restrict crosslinks in forums is set to "Yes"
4. Active Pages: All posts, single posts, Glossary are checked
5. Exclude crosslinks within the same entry is set to "No"

The only change I made to the settings was:

1. Exclude crosslinks within the same entry is set to "Yes"

It still crosslinked the same word three different times.

I've also just found out that this mod does not work with Quick Reply. You have to use "Go Advanced". I posted a reply to one of the 4 different threads I've started on my board...and all of them are crosslinking the same word...more than once...within the same thread.

If you can't help me with this...no biggie...I'll just uninstall it...and look elsewhere for something similar. If I can't find one...that's no biggie, too.

OK, just found a conflict issue with the AME CP Plugin (auto links youtube videos). When you post a youtube video to the same thread as something with a cross link all the crosslinks show as HTML code instead of properly rendered text with a link. (See screen shot or link to my test post http://www.performanceboats.com/test-post/83374-test-crosslinking-function.html#post1370233

I am going to go look into this conflict now but any help would be appreciated.

I suppose that changing the execution order of the Glossary plugin so that it executes after the AME plugin might help. Both are set to execute at 5. Can anyone tell me which plugins I would have to move to 6 (the parser plugins).

Didn't help, I am going to go bug the AME guys about it and see if they have any ideas. If it was any other plugin other than AME (or VBSEO) I would say that I would just live with out it.

It appears that AME is going through the whole post and converting < characters into &lt. This breaks the whole display of course.

It would help my debugging a bit if you could explain how the cross linking function renders just a little. Specifically I looked at the database and a cross linked word is not stored with any sort of markup around it so I assume that the markup is added when the post is called or it is stored in another table other than post.

I issue though: crosslinks popup display well in forum posts, but in cms article it doesn't display on mouseover.
I checked the source file and noticed that the vbglossar_headinclude template didn't seem to be called in the cms (call for overlib_vbglossar.js).
The solution I found to make it work properly was to manually add it in vbcms_page template:

Vossi, do entries have to be placed under a category? In other words I would like to be able to just enter entries without creating categories. I am doing a boating terminology glossary and I like the idea of a user searching for items....or selecting the alphabetical list you have running across the top.

But it won't let me put any entries in without a category.

Hover works fine but when I try to link to the glossary it rewrites the link and I get a white page.

For example. One word is Lacquer

Here's my issue: I'm the owner of the boards, but my own account is unable to add any entries. I constantly get:

Yes I am. I went back tonight and un-installed it. I downloaded the 2.0.6 from here and uploaded all new files, imported the product file and went through the setup again.

Bad news is it still gives the same error, even worse news is now I have lost all of the glossary entries I previously entered.

My installation of 2.0.5 stopped working when I updated vB a few months ago, so yesterday I installed Glossary 2.0.6 on vB 4.1.5 PL1.

The glossary worked fine, but members couldn't access their Private Messages - there was a 500 error. I've had to disable Glossary again.

Since this is an original vBulletin file I don't want to upload your 4.1.6 file over my 4.1.5 - especially since it's going to be over-written again soon when 4.1.7 is released....

Guys, DON'T replace ANY original files which came with vBulletin. There is NO NEED for that.

I'm going to add a new version by tomorrow which works with vBulletin 4.1.5 and higher. But just don't play around by changing original vBulletin files as that could cause a lot of problems with other functions. Geez....

Thats what it does with mine too. It works without problems in a fresh install, also my other addons dont harm the function. I'm quite positive that another addon skrews up and that the glossary aint responsible. That's why i need to find the common addon between those people who have problems.

What happends if ALL other addons are disabled and only the glossary is activated, is the problem still there?

1. I disabled ALL products (including vBulletin CMS and vBulletin Blog) and left only the Glossary. When you try to view PMs I get the same 500 error.

Glossary 2.0.5 was working fine on vBulletin 4.1.3

I upgraded vBulletin to 4.1.4 and the Glossary stopped working so I disabled it.

I upgraded to vBulletin 4.1.5 and tried to use the Glossary again, but started getting problems with PMs so I upgraded Glossary to 2.0.6 and still had the PM error.

I am now running vBulletin to 4.1.7 and Glossary 2.0.6 and have the same error.
I'll try to fix that and check the attachment system due to that error message. Thansk for your help, I'm going to update the addon as soon as I fixed it.
Anyone know how to get friendly urls with vbseo on this?

Is it possible to post new words without creating a new category and adding it to that category? It makes it repetitive if you only have 1 category.

Ovberlib is already used in the AddOn, all you need is to add the additional features under:

/admincp -> vbulletin-glossary -> crosslinking -> userdefined settings.

There you can change the look-like of the popup or bubble. Actually that's what i understood you wanted to do.

The only thing which is needed to get changed is to add
<script type="text/javascript" src="overlib_bubble.js">
in the headinclude-template of the glossary and upload the .js-file to ftp. That#s about it.

I was finally able to install this plugin without it messing up the PMs, thanks to Seductor's fix.

Now whenever I click on the glossary link in the navbar, it gives me the message saying I don't have permission to access the page. Insufficient permissions. This is when I'm logged in as the admin too.

Anyone have any ideas?

I had a strange deal with the main editor for the articles. To get it to work I would have to delete the picture, rename it and then re-insert it in the article. Don't know if that will work for you though.

I am having issues with the popups not being large enough for the text. I don't know what to edit but it would appear to me that maybe the text needs padding around it.

Also the lines of text shown within the popup need some distance between them.

I have attempted to edit the configuration settings in the overlib_vbglossary.js file but they don't seem to have any effect at all.

Okay so I have been all over the overlib website and attempted to figure out how to enter overlib commands into the "custom display for popups" box and also tried the "additional options for overlib link" box but to no avail.

if I want to change the cell padding to 10 pixels, can someone show me the exact command (exact sytax) to enter into the appropriate box (which of the two boxes do I enter this command into, I can't figure out the difference between the two)

Perhaps you haven changed the proper configuration. Check this, my pop-ups have border="5".

By the way, this should be easier to edit.

For example, If you want to change the table width, you could replace the first '+o3_width+ ' with this:

Seductor thank you. I now have borders. I attempted to adjust padding etc but could not get it to work. The text within my popups is too close to the edges of the box (border) and the sentences are stacked too close to each other.

I don't know how to change that, but if I can figure it out then the popups will look much nicer. I have found out that in Firefox it looks very nice but in IE 9 it looks like crap.

I also have a definition of COLREGS in my glossary, within that definition is the word demarcation line which is also a glossary entry. When I click demarcation line it takes me to that definition, so far so good.

Now in demarcation line is COLREGS, so I should be able to click on that to go back to the definition for COLREGS but all i get is a blank white page when i do.

A Alaska, I hope that helped a little. I know as an admin I sometimes forget I can see everything many members cant so I constantly have to remind myself to log out and check everything again.

I had this working not too badly with vB 4.1.7, then realized it was blocking my Google / Doubleclick For Publishers ad scripts preventing the ads from displaying.

Hi All

I've installed the glossary and updated with the two new scripts (attach.php & glossaryentry.php) as discussed some posts before.

The Glossary and PM's are working fine.

Now we had the problem that the File Upload is broken. But there's no error message, just a red exclamation mark in the upload wizzard.

Has someone any idea how to fix that?

Where is the link to view the edit history? I figured out that if I manually change the url do=showentry to do=history I can view it, but I don't see any reference to that anywhere on the showentry template file.

Hi there, I bring a modification of this add-on. I needed to show all my entries in a single page, so I did as follows.

In the template vbglossar_home, find:

I can't remember if that was the error I got when I first tried to install it but, try changing "TYPE=MyISAM" to "ENGINE=MyISAM". After doing that both this and Link Directory works for me.
