View Full Version : vB CMS: Modifying the preview thread text

Hi

(my vb version: 4.0.8)

At the moment I'm trying my luck (read: failing) on getting the vbcms do what I want it to do.
The task is simple:
Someone creates an article.
vB Creates a Thread in the defined subforum.
The thread should contain the complete article text, not only a link or a preview.
If someone edits the article, the thread should be updated/overwritten with the new article text.

What it actually does: Ignoring the char length of the preview in the setting, the only text I get in the comment-thread is a link to the article.
I'm not sure if this is the way the whole thing should work, if I check the code where this acutally happens, I find in the file: "./packages/vbcms/content.php" around line 917 in function "createAssociatedThread"

This is where the message seems to be generated:
$message = new vB_Phrase('vbcms', 'comment_thread_firstpost', $this->getPageURL());
After testing a bit with this line, it appears that this line is responsible for the actual output.
So I wonder, why is there nothing at all which could possibly output at least a char-limited preview?
And the only hook for a plugin I could find is the one which is commented out in the same function.
Even with a hook there, I'm not sure I could access the article's content anyway.

So, I'm in desperate need of advice:
- Is this a bug? Is it fixed in the next version? 4.1.1 ?
- How else can I access the full article text and overwrite it so the actual text instead of only the link can be stored into the thread?
- How do I manage to add the edit-thing without breaking my fingers or re-coding vbulletins native files?

HALP

Oh.

Well, that is a way to make it work too. Perhaps not as "pretty" as I intended, but does the trick. Thankx
