Sorry about the lack of replies - the individual developer responsible for vBDownloads is no longer with the team, the mod has been taken over by another team member who is working on the issue as we speak.

Do bear in mind that as per the original post priority support is given over at our website - we can track the status of bugs etc there and we have systems in place to ensure replies are given in a timely manner etc.

That being said the lack of replies here for this mod is not "normal" - it's something that slipped through the cracks while the support developer for the code was being reassigned.

Sorry again to anyone who has been kept waiting.

@DragonByte Tech i'ts a really great mod but there is a small amount of features in this mod, and for Pro version I need to pay ? 69.95 and that is too much for the person like me (student) having non - commercial forum. I'll stick with the DownloadsII which seems to have more available features than this Lite version and work perfectly with the 4.1.7 PL2. As for developers like you, you should think about some special offers for students and the non - commercial forums ;) But the mod and supportfor it is great ;)

Check the permissions on that directory and verify you are pointing to the right location. Until you have the directory set correctly you will continue to get that error.

The ability to sort the categories/subcategories is on the todo list for the next version.

As far as the front page, do you mean instead of making it 2/3/4 columns make it more like a list type of view of the categories?

You can upload any kind of files you like. There is no ability to preview music/video though.

Just change the path from your forums to your downloads.

Do you have it disabled in the product section? As soon as I disable it there the navbar link goes away. If I disable the global module I don't see it as well.

Just change the path from your forums to your downloads.

I have this same error message, and don't see anything in PHP info to change download directory.

I've tried ./public_html/downloads and ./downloads and full path and still get the error

Update, ok so I added this directory /www/forum/downloads then pointed path to ./downloads and by gosh it works there is even a file in the directory :)

I have a few questions, probably mostly user errors.

1. I can't seem to find out how to add the icon for the file type. They are setup correctly in the Attachments area in ACP. But when uploading to the Download module, the (in this case XML) file type does not appear, even though I have content type matching what I have in Attachments.
Edit: I found that this broken image was pointing to +/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif which didn't exist, so I just put an image in the directory under that name <shrug>

2. I can't seem to get rid of that "no image" image. We are using this upload initially for text and xml templates so there is no image as part of the file. My one idea is just replace your standard no image, image with one of our own. but, when listing files, or under the section "More from this user" then we get the same image displayed, looks kinda unprofessional, to have all the same images displayed.
EDIT: Found the image, noimage.png, and just replaced it that looks more friendly. Thanks

Sorry, been a busy week and didn't realize I haven't checked the thread.

We are not working on the next version yet. I don't believe there is a request in the queue to change the rating system although I'll keep it in mind when we start the next version.

When i upload a file but forgot some field as message, title or Download Name, i will get a error message like that "You are missing required fields". However after i fill all the missing fields and click upload again, i always get a message "current uploading". The status of uploading is always pending although i just upload a file with 50kb.

when I refesh this page and upload again without any missing fields, the uploading is very smooth.
i think that the upload button can't works after the error message displays

I can't tell you because this new version seems to have broken my board. Apparently, disabling all plugins and products via the config doesn't disable this product, so now when I log into the ACP, it constantly refreshes, won't stop, and I cannot do anything.

There are usergroup permissions and there are module permissions in the left pane downloads section of the ACP.

This was a fix for the navigation changes in 4.2, I didn't add any new features. Currently all the files are hosted locally. Having external file links is an option that is on the list of things to look into when we plan out the next version.

Probably something like that yes. It probably will be a basic link to another site with the option to display different text. Not sure when we will work on the next version though.

Sorry no, there isn't a way to show the count of downloads in a category. It's already on the list of requests though for next release, so I'll look at it next time we update the product.

Yes, adding the ability to allow an image in the Category Description area. Basically allowing html (or at least bb code) in the Category Description area. This way if the category name is self explanatory you can at least center an image representative of the category in the description area and hyperlink link it. This way there also isn't so much blank space on the page. I think the overall look would be a lot better.

You could also just add another input like you have for "Category Image" and call it "Category Description Image" that would center any image you input in the Category Description area and hyperlink it to the category page.

I guess I'm not seeing the urgency in this? Currently, you can use an image to replace the title area and if you don't use the description area, you can remove it from the template. This would accomplish the same thing.

For me at least ...unlike most vB add-ons I use, your Downloads page typically has a lot of empty/unused real estate on it. I am trying in make use of the space in a more visually appealing way. Currently unless a user has at least 15 categories with descriptions there is going to be a significant amount of blank space on the page. Removing the description area would only make this worse.

I know for me personally it would look a lot better with the ability to have images in the description area, so I suggested it. I thought it would be a pretty simple edit.

If it doesn't help others too, then don't waste your time.

Do you have downloads setup yet or are you still in the process of setting it up? It looks like one of the fields created on install didn't get created. If you don't have downloads in there, are still in the process of setting it up and testing, I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling.
If you already have it setup and being used I can give you a sql query to run to insert the field.

It doesn't have ftp uploads yet so yes, it is restricted by the php limit. Next version I plan on adding a local importer.

Does the server error log show anything else? Kind of hard to troubleshoot that as it's a fairly general error :(

I just added v1.3.7 which fixes the following:

Fixed - various upload errors when not allowing mirror links
Fixed - ACP section links that don't show up well on different ACP styles
Fixed - "More downloads from user" image if no image is used
Fixed - missing user field for some users

I corrected the fatal error above by just commenting out line 112.

Now I am struggling with this problem:

One or more files you have tried to upload are too big. The maximum file size for zip files is 104857600 bytes.

The max file size it is returning is from the the php.ini, the max size should only be 41943040 as defined for that extension (zip).

However, while uploading a zip file that is no larger than 10k I see an error saying it is too large?

You can do this now by disabling their plugin named "NavBar Button 4.2" and creating it yourself in the Navigation Manager.

I just added v1.3.8 which fixes the following:

Fixed - upload error saying files within the limit are too large
Fixed - Pro file error
Added - Navigation manager menu items

If you manually created navigation manager items I suggest you remove them and use the ones created by the product. The ones created by the product include the permissions set in the modules.

The preferred is the absolute path. Make sure your folder has write permissions on it.

Yes, I had an error on the download module. I fixed the permissions and just uploaded a hotfixed zip file. Try downloading it again and upload the dbtech/downloads/modules/downloadModule.php file. That should fix it, sorry about that.

I am having a horrible problem with importing from Downloads II. I have around 21K files in downloads II, but when I run the importer it actually creates more than 247K files!!

I hava a same problem (before about 300 after more than 800)

In addition, the research takes only the title or the author, and not within the search parameters the DESCRIPTION file, which can be much more useful for filtering files (especially when there are many)
In this case it is much more usual DOWNLOADS II

It would also be very pleased to be able to include the tags to the files

In the supplied files, you have an UPLOAD folder, then an XML folder. I am confused on where the XML folder goes. I have version 4.2 which should only require the vb4 XML file I am assuming. Do I upload that as a product as well?

I appreciate the response for the other answers. As far as suggesting is it a "bit rude" to complain/bump the thread for "free" support for a "free" mod, that is very disrespectful. I am downloading this "free" mod to test it out and make sure it works properly so that when I decide to use the "paid" version I don't have any issues. If I am correct that is your ultimate goal by offering this "free" mod, to obtain me as a "paid" client. I didn't know your "free" mods come with limited support. I'll keep that in mind for any future related issues that may arise with your free mods.

P.S. I don't view your mods as free, I view them as trails so that I may determine if I should purchase the mod. Again, thank you for your time in this matter.

well no offence this mod work ok but has way too many bugs with it admins and mods can use the features of this addon but normal users cant use it at all and work at setting everything to fix it but the features are too buggy as well i was gonna pay for it but if you can work on free version why should i pay for the pro edition.

I am on Downloads II right now debating whether or not i want to switch over to vBDownloads. Only thing stopping me is 2 questions
1. Is there a way where when you put an image in the description box that it automatically puts it as the thumbnail for the upload?
2. Is there a way to incorporate a thanks button in the download? Not necessarily having to thank to get the download, just for the people who want to leave thanks for being able to download the file.

1. The first image you upload will be used as the thumbnail. Ticking the "Screenshot" box gives priority over a loose image. In a future version, we'll add an explicit thumbnail checkbox that'll be used to select a specific image as thumbnail.

2. There's a Rating system in the Pro version that lets people +1 or -1 the download :)

You need to ensure your usergroups have permissions for the categories, and the system itself.

Expand the menu, click Manage Categories, and configure the permissions there.

I currently have a huge amount of files on our site, hobby-machinist.com using Downloads II by Jelle. But since there are no updated features, I want to convert to your system.

My question is this: Can I convert a HUGE library (815 files) easily from DownloadsII to your system or does it have to be done ONE AT A TIME (which will take forever).

I will gladly buy the pro version if needed.

EDIT: I just tried to use the LITE version to do the conversion from DownloadsII to your system, and got this error:

The issue seems to be with users who own files or downloads in Downloads II but have since been removed from vBulletin.

Workaround code is currently in testing on Nelson's site.

The above problem has been solved with an updated plugin we are using. However, we currently experienced an issue that not all of the old Downloads II downloads are being imported into the Vbdownloads system. Only 409 out of 1650 files were imported.

They are currently working on this, and we will let you know when it has been solved.

EDIT: Just discovered installing this mod will also cause "Operation Timed Out" errors on other mods. I have uninstalled it. It needs work.

I bought the Pro Version because Jelle no longer supports or updates his version, which was quite good. The staff had some suggestions for upgrades, which I will pass on here:

(1)Thumbnails are alocated space down the left edge of the files listing screens. There are none, so a forest of place holders greets the viewer of any folder. Also, if there is any way in which to add a thumbnail photo I haven't been able to locate it. But in any case, I see no benefit to photos of what are mostly manuals and charts. One might argue that a photograph of the machine that the manual covers might be useful but (a) someone with a scanned manual to upload isn't likely to have a decent photograph of the equipment that the manual covers. And (b) the image will be so small that at best one might be able to tell whether the image is of some sort of lathe or of some sort of mill, etc. So delete the thumbnails. It will save a lot of white space and reduce search time.

(2) The files appear in seemingly random order. I now know that they are not in the order that the files were added. Because some of the missing Clausing manuals are now on the first page. So I'm clueless as to what the sorting function is. But they should be sorted in some variant of alpha-numeric order as the old system was. So that if someone (like me) takes the time to go through and rationalize the titles, finding the manual on a specific machine (or confirming that it is not present) is simple and straightforward. Further, the entry titles should not necessarily be the actual file names. To do so eliminates use of most punctuation symbols, which can be quite useful in titles. The sorting problem was something I brought up as an issue months ago. I have the pro version and they immediately worked with me to add a better sorting function. The pro version I know now has numerical/alphabetical sorting of uploads. Not sure if/when this will be added to the lite version but if you want the option right now the Pro version does have it.

As for the naming of files currently you still need to rename the files to something as descriptive as possible no option for "File Titles" at this time.


For the folder/subfolders these are sorted through the admin settings under "Category Management" just like you would sort your vB forums. Which is much better than being forced to sort alphabetically - you have full control of the exact order this way.

Questions:

1. We made categories, and began importing files into the categories.
The program does not sort or alphabetize the categories or files. Any way to do that? Would make browsing much easier.

2. The program is making a thumbnail image, and it is black. This is undesirable. How can we fix this? I would ideally like to change the default "No Image" to something nicer as I did with the category images. But how, and how to remove the blacked out images?

3. Is there any way for the system to remove duplicates without doing it manually?
