hiding sub-forum last post on forum home

This has been asked a lot in the past but it seems it can't be done. I've tried adding the following code to the forum bit level post templates and forumhome but it isn't working.

<if condition="$forum[forumid] == 37">-<else />$vbphrase[last_post]</if>

So has anybody successfully been able to hide a certain subforum's last post on forum home?
