Friendly URLs for Groups?

I don't think i'm missing something but is there a way to make group URLs friendlier?

IE: so Linux usergroups w/o a website/home could create a group on one of the sites I run and it'd be domain.com/BCLUG

Without adding to the .htaccess every time.. so it'll automagicaly happen?

That's exactly what I'm looking (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=2029378#post2029378) for as well. The doc's are kind of vague as to what is and isn't supported with the mod_rewrite URL's and I can't find much on extending friendly URL support to other features..
