I'm looking for documentation on how to resolve the following error:

"fetch_template() calls should be replaced by the vB_Template class."

Where can I find documentation for vb4 upgrades from a programmer's pov?

There is no documentation other than the articles section Articles (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=184)

It seems that installing many mods that are not written for vb4 have this exact same problem. I would love to see a solution too, or at least a tutorial on how to solve it.

Very simple, don''t install any mods that are not compatible with the 4X serie and you won''t have that problem anymore :)

Although that is a very sarcastic response, I agree with you. However, there are to "Glossary" mods out there. One will flat-out not install into 5.xx and the other gives this error message. I need a glossary for my site. That is why I am looking for ANY workaround to this.

This may be of use to you.
Using custom templates within your own vBulletin 4 based files (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/entry.php?2388-Using-custom-templates-within-your-own-vBulletin-4-based-files)

Only covers the absolute basics, but it gets you going in the right direction.
