The first solution is no fix but a workaround.:)
But I don't mind, I don't need bit.ly if other things do the same job as well.

Well I hope soo, first I had this mod installed:
htt://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=216346

Unfortunately it's not working anymore. I don't know if he used rss feeds or something to post on twitter, but text was going in there.
You can see at http://www.twitter.com/Satellitefun if you look at tweets from June 9th and older.
Unfortunately then Twitter changed the api and almost nothing worked anymore.

It was just the first 2 lines from a messages, and then the short url to the complete thread.
I'm no coder but if that mod could do that, it couldn't be that hard could it?

There's an incompatibility issue between this mod and the Instant New Thread Notification (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=248617). If both are active, after submitting a thread that will be tweeted, it'll be created, tweeted and instantly notified, but it'll simply hang in the thread creation screen.

Since there's no more support to the other mod, there's anything that could be done to solve this?

I just checked and I got a Moderator forum notice yesterday (but that wouldn't be tweeted), and I see a general forum notice from 7/4 which shows as being tweeted. And no complaints yet about threads hanging.

You could try changing the execution order in the plugins, that should help with any conflicts.

I have tried before, changing the execution order of the WS vBulletin Tweet Poster plugin from the default 1 to 5, and the Instant New Thread Notification from 5 to 1, with no success.

I really like this mod, and it has worked great for me....until I upgraded to 4.2.1 Now it is not working at all. I did upgrade it and all, but it is still not working. I have no clue what to do. :(

And yes, I am paying attention. I am just not sure how to do what is said to do here....

And yes, I am paying attention. I am just not sure how to do what is said to do here....You shouldn't really have to do much since the author updated the files on 6/29/13. Maybe you and Kingmob are having the same issue - do you see hanging threads like he does?

Regardless, I might suspect other mods. You guys should compare notes. Any big ones installed like vbadvanced, vbarcade, etc.?

Well, yes, I do have the Arcade, but it never caused a problem before. It all worked perfectly....until I did the upgrade to 4.2.1 (from 4.1.2).

I had to redo the Arcade, games and all...Twitter is the last thing not working I think.

Ugh, I am sorry. I meant to come back and post that I have it working just fine now, but kept forgetting to do that. I merely ran the whole upgrade again, and wah-laaa it started working.

This works great. The only problem I have right now is that the hashtag defined by admin is not shows up in twitter, but is not searchable. i.e. if you click on the hashtag in twitter, nothing happens. Is anyone else facing this issue?

I just checked ours in Chrome - it took me a while to find a hashtag since my members don't use them but eventually I did and I can click them. I think they're just text that Twitter turns into a live link, this mod doesn't do that.

Big-K, don't do the auto hashtag, twitter will detect it as spam very quickly and will block u from showing under those hastags

I am using it as a mass txt to notify a few hundred people of something time sensitive without giving out the twitter login information to the users I want to be able to send the tweet.

Not working for me either on 4.2..

I've uninstalled and re-installed twice, it seems to work for few weeks then for some reason just stops.

I've found an outside source that uses the RSS feed to send posts to twitter and facebook, although I think you can only use it for one forum

This one seems fine to me and is working most of the time. Plus it doesn't add 3 links in your footer. :) yesterday I thought it wasn't working but it does seem to be working most of the time any ways. if I want to make sure an important thread is tweeted I just add it using social links.

I wont use Dragonbtye MODs, they fill up your footer with credits, and assume you want to advertise HiVelocity hosting, which I don't

I'm using an off forum hack called tweetem, works a doddle, you can also set it up for other social sites.

However, searches for "tweetem" are too full of garbage to find anything like this. Linkage please? Does "works a doddle" mean instant posts with no trouble?

Sorry my bad ! it's

http://twitterfeed.com/

it works by taking RSS feeds, and you link it to twitter, facebook, linked only problem is oyu have to set up a separate feed for each forum.

You can also set how often to send the feed, from instant to daily or weekly

Twitterfeed failed us around Jan 2012 forcing me to use some odd workaround for FB posts. Oddly, after 2.5 months my letter to TF tech support was answered with an apology for the delay. :)

I followed the advice of CAG CheechDogg from this thread: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=2464926#post2464926. I installed this modification and followed each and every step and it works 100% the first time 4.2.2. It is posting to both twitter and directly to my forum facebook page. Thank you so much for this because I have been battling forever to get vb to post to the correct facebook page!

For example, I runa Turkish board and some characters don't show correctly on tweets.

Good day,
I need help to take out an error that I am getting.

I installed this mod It was working great, but after upgrade vbulletin, it stop working, so I uninstalled, but after that, everytime I post a new topic, I am getting this error:

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'bitly.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/reefman/public_html/newthread.php(279) : eval()'d code on line 12

Can you help me to Id what is causing it as the mod was totally uninstalled?
I followed the instructions from the author to uninstall.
I touched vb support but the answer was "We do not help with modifications via the ticket support. "
We disable all the mods by the config.php, including this line:
<?php
define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then the error stoped.
I already saw someone else here has the same problem and I want to know how do you solve it as this is the only mod installed in my forum that uses bit.ly.

Thanks in advance.

Nobody??Did you try directly contacting the person that had the trouble? I mean, assuming they didn't post the solution somewhere later (you didn't link so we couldn't look if we wanted to).

In general, it seems to me that if you properly uninstalled the mod (including deleting any uploaded files and undoing any manual template changes) then you really can't be having the error.

It appears that you still have a plug in trying to use thelink shortner file bitly.php

I would upload all the files, reinstall and then uninstall again. Also go through the plug in manager to see what may be left over related to this mod.

Are you sure you removed all the files and the plug in completly? Something is calling for bitly.php still. You could probably just upload that file to get rid of the error for now until you figure it out.

Do you have a Twitter button or something that would use the link shortener file?

Just reupload that bitly.php file if you are unsure of what edits were done..

To verify it is a template try a default theme with no edits and see if you still get the error. If you do then it is definitely a plug in.

That's what I was thinking... seems as if a file is no longer there and when it tries to access the file the error is produced. I suggest uploading all the mod files again as RichieBoy suggested earlier.

I upload all again, and install plugin. Obviously does not work. Then I uninstall and take out all the files uploaded.

Error persists.

Question 14:Threads with titles that have special characters in them (such as ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?) do not tweet, what do I do?Answer:Sorry, but it looks like an issue with the Twitter (OAuth) class file by Abraham Williams and not with this hack at all.

I have checked his bug tracker and this issue has been reported twice and has not been fixed yet by the author, please see:
http://github.com/abraham/twitteroauth/issues#issue/18
http://github.com/abraham/twitteroauth/issues#issue/32
You might want to reply to both of the bug reports to see if you can get the author to fix his Twitter class any quicker.

Since the coder of the mentioned OAuth class stated last week, this issue wouldn?t be reproducable anymore with the current codebase - is anyone willing and able to fix this issue in this tweet mod? I would if I could, but that goes over my head. :erm:

Amazing Mod that is very simple to use and works very well.

One issue: this Mod uses the bit.ly API Key which is being deprecated (http://dev.bitly.com/authentication.html) in favor of OAuth.

Are there any plans to update this Mod to use OAuth with bit.ly so that when they cease to accept the API Key, it will still work?
