This worked for me. I initially setup a Twitter App and it was read only and could not figure out why it wasn't posting to twitter. I changed it to read & write and it didnt work. I had to create a new Twitter App and start it out with Read & Write and now it works flawlessly. Thanks :)

Same here, that did it.

Why thought? It must be a bug in the application.

I am using AddThis to share some threads in Facebook, Twitter and others... and is great, but the problem is that i need to share to MY FACEBOOK PAGE not to my FACEBOOK PROFILE, someone know how to do that? with RSS or something?

The name of your feed serves for filtering needs in a Twitter reader, doesn't it?

no, as in if i add #vbulletin into title it will come up as a keyword, but i would like it so i wouldnt need to add it so it shows up in my title but only on twitter

Um i have some bots on my forum that post from XML feeds, now i use SpamOMatic with my vb and these posts are set to go into a moderation queue, when i approve them this module does not tweet them... It will tweet only Announcements and new threads created by myself - is this normal or is there some setting that should be changed.

Cheers

I am toying with the best way to add this (it is likely to be a set hash-tag per-forum, set in the AdminCP), but it will not be until v4.0.005, as I am releasing v4.0.004 here next week and it has already been set in stone and released to my subscribers at Wolfshead Solutions last month.

This hack does not do that, it only posts live tweets of new threads/posts made by members on your forum.

Bot posting of moderated external RSS feeds is not likely to ever make it into this hack.

DaneAU
09-12-2010, 12:51 PM
Well i should be more specific, the bots are setup as users - what i mean is you know how you set a username from which XML feeds are posted as on vb sites. Well i have different usernames for the 3 feeds, so when a new thread is posted it is the same as posting as a normal user such as myself. I have made a test account as a normal registered user however this also does not appear to be working when i create a thread.

Could this be because I have made a custom user group aside from the "regular users" default group.

Any users in the regular users group are subject to Spam-O-Matic filtering, users who are trusted are placed in a custom user group with less restrictive spam filtering.... I completely understand not having RSS bots being able to post direct to twitter, as i don't want automatic rss feeds pouring into my forum either, hence the reason i filter the feeds and only validate interesting posts that are of interest to my users.

Videx
09-12-2010, 02:58 PM
I think it has to do with the way vb4 handles the posts. I know the Event Forums mod also fails to tweet new posts. When a live user clicks "Post" it goes a different direction than when a mod/bot does it.

I solved the problem by deleting the Twitter application and adding a new one because originally I used "read" instead of read+write. Bug with twitter I suppose.

Videx
09-13-2010, 11:15 PM
I don't recall being asked to verify anything either. But when I posted a new thread to a twitter enabled forum, and logged into my forum's Twitter account, there was the message waiting to be tweeted. I did so manually. All subsequent twits have gone out automatically.

I don't think there's a lot of delay twitting, but I bet most readers are set to only retrieve tweets every x minutes. In fact, I think Twitter puts a hard limit on updates of something like 150/hr.

Unless, like us, you have a Joomla/other CMS front end and want to firstly notify the forums of a new article, and then tweet the notification via twitter.Good point. Yes, if you're getting a whole lot of new original articles all the time then I can see where some sort of automation may be desired. But usually when people ask for this sort of thing it's because they have automated feeds coming in from elsewhere, and they just want to pass them through as if it's their own material. Out of curiosity, how many original articles per day do your members write? And what is your secret? I can't get my members to write anything. Well, nothing that shouldn't just be a new thread and not an article.

Comma separated list of forumids allowed to be included when vBulletin posts to twitter.

Well isnt this a chore...? Would it not have been better just to exclude the
forums rathering then listing 50+ that it will include? I can exclude 3, but
rather having that option, I have to list 47 that I want to include...

Working like a charm, but have to take some time to add all the forums to the include...

New version is working great. I have not found yet in the code where to append the twitter post with a custom hash tag, but I will post here when I do..

On the old version each post would have a #FB at the end so my facebook API would pick it up and post it.. I'll figure it out soon I hope.

no, as in if i add #vbulletin into title it will come up as a keyword, but i would like it so i wouldnt need to add it so it shows up in my title but only on twitter

New version is working great. I have not found yet in the code where to append the twitter post with a custom hash tag, but I will post here when I do..

Custom hash tags will be in the next version. There will be a custom field you will be able to enter as many #tags as you like when you create a new thread in a vBulletin 2 Twitter enabled forum, and will only appear in the tweet and not in the thread title. This will not be available for replies or quick replies, only new threads.

There will also be the following options:

Enable vBulletin 2 Twitter in all forums
Enable vBulletin 2 Twitter in selected forums
Disable vBulletin 2 Twitter in selected forums

I will also be removing the tli.tl url shortening service, as it now requires an api key to function, so it is not currently working in v4.0.004. I have spoken to the guys over at tli.tl and they will not budge on removing the api key requirement for reasons I totally understand.

But, that being said I will be adding the following url shortening services that do not require an api key:

CanURL
Metamark

So, you will now have a choice of five different url shortening services (or choose not shorten at all).

I will also note that I will not be adding any functionality to tweet RSS feeds, tweet CMS articles or tweet Blogs, and that is unlikely to ever change.

As always this will be released to my paid subscribers at Wolfshead Solutions a month before releasing it here unsupported, so you can expect a release here towards the end of October 2010.

Perhaps not in this particular mod. But since there's already an RSS feed with this information going out, it doesn't seem too far-fetched that someone couldn't figure out a way to safely truncate that and pass it on to Twitter.

If you don't have a busy forum you can always use Twitterfeed, which does this. We use it for publishing to Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shannondale-and-Beyond/293458056660):Wintering Strawberries in Containers (http://bit.ly/aQyBq4)

After investigation together with my hosting service we cannot find anything wrong, my forum is allowed to do the tweets on Twitter, but none of the shortening services is working.

Uninstalled the mod, reset all the access codes, install the mod again, but still the same issue.

So for the moment there are just tweets from the forum but without any link to the posting itself.

We have no idea how to resolve this.

Is there a reason that this mod doesn't have a way to automatically add a tweet for a new article through the CMS?
Because I have chosen not to add support for vBCMS Articles, Blogs as they can be set to publish at a later date (so are not live) and RSS are definitely not live and this hack only tweets live threads/posts to twitter and that will not change.

First I've heard of DLVR.IT; looks interesting. They check every 15 minutes (Twitterfeed is only every 30 minutes at best). What is not clear is the maximum limit, but it too seems to be better than Twitterfeed but I wonder if anyone knows what the limit actually is?

The only reference I found to limits was from a post 6 months ago that said there were no limits. A lack of limits might explain the lack of reference to them.

PuSH (http://pubsubhubub.com/) looks like a nice solution for instant feeds. Mostly mumbo-jumbo to me, but might be a great idea for a mod.

I can't figure out where to download the update. I paid $11 for the last one. Do I have to pay $5 to download this one? Or wait a month?
Your subscription expired and will need to be renewed.... any other questions in regards to this will need to be asked at Wolfshead Solutions (I will not answer them here as I will likely receive an infraction or ban for advertising commercial services, I have been warned).

I was just wondering if there is a edit that says when it posts to twitter "You Seen This" Description of post then the Link

It posts "Description of post then the Link"

I would like a "You seen this" added before "Description of post then Link"

As I don't want to start all new threads with "you seen this"

Thanks any help will be welcomed.

Has anyone had a Problem tweeting logged into twitter after the auto twitter has posted from one of your forums.

I Got a Message from tweeter that there was a problem with my tweet, so I removed the thread that I tested the auto tweet in, deleted the post to twitter and all was well again.

Not sure if anyone experienced this or maybe just glitch on twitter side. :eek:

Perhaps someone has an answer for this:

Stay logged into your Twitter account, as the first time you tweet from your forum you will need to authorise the domain.

I see that in the instructions (which I have followed to the letter)
I'm logged in to twitter but I see now way to "authorise the domain"
I post a thread and there are no errors whatsoever - server specs are as per the instructions as well.

I've spent over an hour trying to get this to work correctly - all settings, all codes, everything is entered correctly and still no joy.

Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks,

Jacquii.

It's been a while, but I said something about it in https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2094368&postcount=240 . Sorry I don't remember exactly how it went down, but until I had passed that first tweet, nothing came through. If you aren't seeing a first tweet, maybe that forum is excluded? Or maybe you're trying to use a shortener that doesn't work from your server - try it with no shortening at first.

Works great for me...the trickiest thing for me was figuring out where to find the OAuth token and secret. Only issue I see so far is that the excluded forums give me an error if I set it to anything but 0. Will head over to the dev's site to donate/subscribe. This has been a huge relief since I have had issue with my site when I was using Buro's mod (not his fault, it worked until the Twitter API changed).

This is a long thread and found it difficult to read the entire thing. Has anyone created a mod that will tweet new calendar events or/and tweet a "notice" of the event. Example: I want to tweet a note about a course I'm teaching on a specific date. I have the event saved in the calendar. I'd like to tweet that event a few times "before" the event. Say, within one week of the event, one day of the event, and one hour before the event...

Does this make sense? Should I even post this here?

Thanks to all who work these mods, You're Great!

Videx

I am unaware of an automated way to do that. But it shouldn't be too difficult to just tweet the notices manually. I mean, you're only talking about three tweets.

okhissabigfish
12-19-2010, 01:06 AM
Yea, its obvious I can do that manually but that's not the point. I was wondering if there would be a way to add a mod that simply allows the user to set a function that tweets a calendar event at various times "before" the event takes place.

Guess not...

yes you will need to remove the code below from the product XML then re-install the product clicking overwrite!

This will also take away the VB_Template errors that you will get if you use anything below vbulletin 4

if ($twitterEnabled)
{
$hashtag_field = '<div class="blockrow"><label for="hashtags" class="full">' . $vbphrase['hashtags'] . ':</label>
<input type="text" class="primary full textbox" name="hashtags" id="hashtags" value="' . $hashtag_values . '" maxlength="' . $vbulletin->options['titlemaxchars'] . '" tabindex="1" /></div>';
vB_Template::preRegister('newthread',array('hashta g_field' => $hashtag_field));
$vbulletin->templatecache['newthread'] = str_replace('$messagearea', '$hashtag_field . $messagearea', $vbulletin->templatecache['newthread']);
}

I don't want to disable them but it would be nice if it adds the # automatically, some members don't know what the hell is the hash for and if they add keywords they will forget or wont know that the # must be added. So the tweet will have keywords but wont be links to new searches at twitter.

Hey look at what happened to my website today...

I was using Metamark url shortening services and the last 6 threads in the last 6 hours that were tweeted got blacklisted to uribl.

This is the error that was placed at the url in twitter :
ERROR: URIBL listed - ticoracer.com in uribl.fabel.dk (The host ticoracer.com is listed in the uribl

What the hell is uribl? see http://www.uribl.com

Well, How do i know that the problem is the Metamark url shortening?
I change to TinyURL url shortening, made a new test thread and went normal, switched back to Metamark and the same ERROR again. Already delete those tweets too.

At uribl my website is NOT on the list... Anyone else with the same ERROR?

I'm now using the TinyURL with no problems!!!

Some suggestions:

1-The hashtag field should be configurable, nice to have: available by usergroup.

2-There should be default hashtags configurable that should be added on all tweets

3-Your plugin is not too friendly with accentuated characters

Thanks great plugin!

Simple. Go into AdminCP > Plugins & Products > Plugin Manager and find Product : vBulletin 2 Twitter. Uncheck the Active box for the first option vBulletin 2 Twitter: Add Hashtag Field To New Thread (newthread_form_complete) and save changes. The hashtag field will no longer show in newthread.

Latest version available: 4.1.0 Patch Level 2

I use vBulletin 4.0.1 PL2 so that is not the issue.

Add a new plugin in the AdminCP, and use the global_bootstrap_init_start hook, and enter the following code:
// This module tests to see if you are actually authenticating with Twitter

// replace XXX below with your userid before enabling this test/debug module
// remember to disable it when you are done
if (in_array($vbulletin->userinfo['userid'],array(XXX)))
{
require_once(DIR . '/includes/twitteroauth/twitteroauth.php');
$twitter = new TwitterOAuth($vbulletin->options['ms_vbtwitter_twitter_consumer_key'], $vbulletin->options['ms_vbtwitter_twitter_consumer_secret'], $vbulletin->options['ms_vbtwitter_twitter_oauth_token'], $vbulletin->options['ms_vbtwitter_twitter_oauth_token_secret']);
$timelineText = $twitter->get('statuses/user_timeline');
var_dump($timelineText[0]->text);
}

This is from the Frequently Asked Questions section in the first post, and likely your issue:

Question:
Threads with titles that have special characters in them (such as ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?) do not tweet, what do I do?
Answer:
Sorry, but it looks like an issue with the Twitter (OAuth) class file by Abraham Williams and not with this hack at all.

I have checked his bug tracker and this issue has been reported twice and has not been fixed yet by the author, please see:

http://github.com/abraham/twitteroauth/issues#issue/18
http://github.com/abraham/twitteroauth/issues#issue/32

You might want to reply to both of the bug reports to see if you can get the author to fix his Twitter class any quicker.

For instance, this thread title on your site will not tweet:
IE: Hacker st?rzen sich auf bekannte Browser-L?cke

It does work as advertised. I use it on my forum and it is uses vBulletin 4.1.0 PL2 and it does not ignore forum exclusions.... also, more than 200 people have updated to this version since it was released in November 2010, and not a single one has come back with having this issue, and if it was an issue it would have been reported long before now.

Your issue is probably going to be either AdminCP settings not configured correctly, another hack conflicting with this one and causing the issue or you have made alterations to this hack that cause it to not work.

So, with that out of the way, lets start with you posting a screenshot of your AdminCP setting for this hack (with the API information removed for security purposes) and we will take it from there.

If you read the Frequently Asked Questions section in the first post, this hack does not support that, and will not be updated to do that in later versions. So, that will be something you will need to look into yourself.

Without investigating how RSS feeds work and which file hooks are available where, and as I am not really interested in adding this, and having too little free time to investigate things I am interested in, then I can not really point you in the right direction... hence I advised you that you need to look at it yourself... maybe another member will be able to give you a hint.

Hi Mosh - Quick question in hopes this is in scope of your support!

I've just installed YOURLS (http://yourls.org) on a 4 letter domain I managed to get to create my own shortening service as shortening services die, I'd rather run my own to ensure that links in the wild are maintained rather than 404'd.

YOURLS doesn't require auth and allows a get/post api call to access the service:

Secure passwordless API call

YOURLS allows API calls the old fashioned way, using username and password parameters. If you're worried about sending your credentials into the wild, you can also make API calls without using your login or your password, using a secret signature token.

Your secret signature token: <SECRET API EDITED OUT> (It's a secret. Keep it secret)

This signature token can only be used with the API, not with the admin interface.

*
Usage of the signature token

Simply use parameter signature in your API requests. Example:

http://mums.ws/yourls-api.php?signature=<SECRET API EDITED OUT>&action=...

I've just tried to add the service into your mod and not working - I'm hoping you might be able to shed a bit of light on the subject?

What I've done is changed all instances of the cURL from:

elseif ($vbulletin->options['ms_vbtwitter_use_url_shortening'] == 3)
{
$tinyurl = curl_init();
curl_setopt($tinyurl, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://tinyurl.com/api-create.php?url=' . $baseURL);
curl_setopt($tinyurl, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$shortURL = curl_exec($tinyurl);
curl_close($tinyurl);
}
else
{
$metamark = curl_init();
curl_setopt($metamark, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://metamark.net/api/rest/simple?long_url=' . $baseURL);
curl_setopt($metamark, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$shortURL = curl_exec($metamark);
curl_close($metamark);
}

to:

elseif ($vbulletin->options['ms_vbtwitter_use_url_shortening'] == 4)
{
$metamark = curl_init();
curl_setopt($metamark, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://metamark.net/api/rest/simple?long_url=' . $baseURL);
curl_setopt($metamark, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$shortURL = curl_exec($metamark);
curl_close($metamark);
}
else
{
$mums = curl_init();
curl_setopt($mums, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://mums.ws/yourls-api.php?signature=<SECRET API EDITED OUT>&action=' . $baseURL);
curl_setopt($mums, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$shortURL = curl_exec($mums);
curl_close($mums);
}

And the piped from:

<optioncode>select:piped
0|No url shortening
1|bit.ly url shortening
2|is.gd url shortening
3|TinyURL url shortening
4|Metamark url shortening</optioncode>

to:

<optioncode>select:piped
0|No url shortening
1|bit.ly url shortening
2|is.gd url shortening
3|TinyURL url shortening
4|Metamark url shortening
5|mums url shortening</optioncode>

XML imports without problem, settings store with no problem, and NEWTHREAD creation without problem - however it doesn't Tweet the new thread to Twitter.

I'm not a php guru, but from going through your mod, it seemed to me that is was all I needed to change however since it is failing, I guess I was wrong...

Could you perhaps either help me get this working or add a provision in the next update to allow installations of YOURLS to be handled for those of us who want to use our own shorteners?

Thanks Mosh, I apprecaite your help in advance!

a provision in the next update to allow installations of YOURLS to be handled for those of us who want to use our own shorteners?

Thanks Mosh, I apprecaite your help in advance!

I've just tried to add the service into your mod and not working - I'm hoping you might be able to shed a bit of light on the subject?

What I've done is changed all instances of the cURL from:

elseif ($vbulletin->options['ms_vbtwitter_use_url_shortening'] == 3)
{
$tinyurl = curl_init();
curl_setopt($tinyurl, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://tinyurl.com/api-create.php?url=' . $baseURL);
curl_setopt($tinyurl, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$shortURL = curl_exec($tinyurl);
curl_close($tinyurl);
}
else
{
$metamark = curl_init();
curl_setopt($metamark, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://metamark.net/api/rest/simple?long_url=' . $baseURL);
curl_setopt($metamark, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$shortURL = curl_exec($metamark);
curl_close($metamark);
}

to:

elseif ($vbulletin->options['ms_vbtwitter_use_url_shortening'] == 4)
{
$metamark = curl_init();
curl_setopt($metamark, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://metamark.net/api/rest/simple?long_url=' . $baseURL);
curl_setopt($metamark, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$shortURL = curl_exec($metamark);
curl_close($metamark);
}
else
{
$mums = curl_init();
curl_setopt($mums, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://mums.ws/yourls-api.php?signature=<SECRET API EDITED OUT>&action=' . $baseURL);
curl_setopt($mums, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$shortURL = curl_exec($mums);
curl_close($mums);
}

And the piped from:

<optioncode>select:piped
0|No url shortening
1|bit.ly url shortening
2|is.gd url shortening
3|TinyURL url shortening
4|Metamark url shortening</optioncode>

to:

<optioncode>select:piped
0|No url shortening
1|bit.ly url shortening
2|is.gd url shortening
3|TinyURL url shortening
4|Metamark url shortening
5|mums url shortening</optioncode>

XML imports without problem, settings store with no problem, and NEWTHREAD creation without problem - however it doesn't Tweet the new thread to Twitter.

I'm not a php guru, but from going through your mod, it seemed to me that is was all I needed to change however since it is failing, I guess I was wrong...

Could you perhaps either help me get this working or add a provision in the next update to allow installations of YOURLS to be handled for those of us who want to use our own shorteners?

Thanks Mosh, I apprecaite your help in advance!

A couple weeks have gone by and thought I'd push my luck and see if you've had a chance to see if there is a way to integrate YOURLS into your mod Mosh? I understand if you don't want to add the funcationality pre-built into the mod as not everyone will want to (or can) install YOURLS themselves, but if you could have a quick look at what YOURLS needs to use the api and throw us a bone on how to integrate it ourselves, I'd appreciate it! :)

Any way for the links created on twitter to take you to the last post instead of the first post of the thread when showing replies? Right now it takes you to the first post each time, and you have to sift through the thread to find the last one. Wouldn't it be better for SEO purposes it it took you to the latest post with the newest information to index?

Personally I would never tweet all replies as anyone can already get this information by subscribing to the thread if they're interested. Too many tweets and they'll just stop paying attention to the feed. And it would quickly become impossible to pick out the new threads among all the replies.

It's not for users, it's for bots. The site is small right now, and twitter is helping it grow rapidly within the SEO realm.

Also it DOES NOT take you to the exact post made, it takes you to the thread URL, which gives you the first post, and not the latest post.

I understand; I was agreeing with you (though making a slight correction).

However, if you're just spamming Twitter hoping bots will visit, it should make no difference where the twit links, as long as it brings them to your site. This too we're going to differ on because I find our forum sometimes overloaded with bots/guests and have taken steps to cut down on them.

If you take them to the link/page with the new post, it's going to read that post, with new information. Instead of coming to the first page with information it's already read before.

I understand wanting to cut down on them when your board is of a certain size. But it's definitely helping increase traffic for the time being. :)

Had this installed on two separate VB forums, both running 4.1.0 and it was working great.... until the end of January where it just seems to have....stopped working....

I've just upgraded to vBB 4.1.2 and the new 4.0.6, but thus far, it simply doesn't seem to be working any more...

Don't recall making any changes, and sadly, I seem to be getting no error messages to explain why it's not working...

Any clues?

Hi

The tweet appeared in timeline a few mins later,so the problem sems to be to do with bit.ly

Now another question.

Is there a way to get this or something like this to work for individuals? So a user logs in and any posts / treads they make get put on their twitter feed as tweets (from them)? Would be great if there was either something that can be done to this to edit it or some other add on that does it.

If you want to have all threads by all members tweeted then go get vBulletin to Twitter: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=234288

This was a good idea but I was under the assumption it would do it for the forum as a whole, not just the admin. What if you don't post under your admin account? User threads are the only thing that really make sense unless for some reason you want people to follow only you on twitter... You could simply click the "Tweet" button after you post a thread...

If you read the FAQ section in the first post, it clearly states that it is highly unlikely that I will ever add that functionality, and to be honest I do not have a need for it on any of my sites, so it does not really interest me in spending my very limited time and energy adding that functionality to a free hack.

Posts go to your forum's twitter account. Your twitter account has nothing to do with it, nor does theirs. In fact, they don't even need a twitter account, and neither do you. But your forum does.

I read through the mod description and FAQ, as well as all the posts in this thread, and just have a couple quick verification questions since there seems to be contradictions throughout. Perhaps things have been update, changed, etc. I dunno.

I only want to tweet my articles from the CMS and not forums or replies. Can it be limited to this with this mod?

The posts have to be 140 characters or less or they won't post, correct? This mod won't truncate a longer post?

This hack does threads and posts only, not CMS articles, RSS feeds etc,. (see FAQ in first post for more information).

That is correct, mostly.... it will try truncating, but if it is still above 140 characters, then it won't post.

This is answered in the FAQ section of the first post
As this is exactly the same error you posted in Buro9's thread, is it related to this hack or his? As it would not generate exactly the same error as his hack.

Installed it sometime back, worked like charm but tweets have started to stop since 27th April. The links get shortened on bit.ly while doesn't gets up posted on my Twitter, tried resetting and changing my consumer keys etc.

But doesn't work neither any debug messages arrive nor errors.

He wasn't being mean, just realistic. vb.org has no mechanism to mark non-working mods, and will only graveyard mods that can be shown to have a security vulnerability. I have asked about this and been told only that before installing a mod a person must read the entire thread. A nice thought, but clearly not many people actually do it.

God knows every time I tell someone to RTFM or RTWT (read the whole thread) I too get accused of being mean.

Resolutions of what? Aside from some individual server issues the mod itself is working fine.

Several posts just before mine make it clear that isn't necessarily the truth. So, I was waiting to find out if it would work for me. Since the next few posts are from people who were more adventurous than I and they say it is working fine I'm likely going to install it soon.

Not mean.. Just honest... The other one is what? Broke? Abandoned? Waste of time? Dead? And has been for some months.... Sounds like a prime graveyard candidate to me. :) OR at a minimum a prefix / note / heads up, in OP that it doesn't work anymore.

This works and is easier than the other one, IMO. I think they both probably work, this one gives more options than just bit.ly for shortening, and is easier to set up.

HI,

I installed and set up all my API/account in ACp. Set up Twitter application, set up bit.ly shortening etc. The Twitter ~ Tags appear in my posting window, thus confirming I have set it up correctly.

I have created 2 tests and and posted. The thread is added to my Forum but nothing happens on my Twitter. I got no error messages it just posts to forum as usual?

Any ideas?

By the way - I have authorised the domain through the twitter application settings also!

Thanks guys

First step when troubleshooting is to simplify. Don't use any shortening, especially not the more complicated bit.ly. Also don't set a lot of things in options like hashtags, etc. And make sure you can tweet manually from that account.

Yes, it is possible, but not without extensive edits to this hack. At the moment, there is no way to determine if a thread has been tweeted or not, so would have to write that functionality in, along with the functionality to do the check once the thread is deleted and also add the functionality to delete the tweet itself.

I am not interested in adding this, as I don't really need that functionality on any of my sites at the moment, so I will not be adding this in. If I need it at a later time, I may well change my mind.

To test to see if it is working, there are two test plugins available to test the functionality on the Twitter side of things:

vBulletin 2 Twitter: Test/Debug Module 1 - which tests to see if you are actually authenticating with Twitter
vBulletin 2 Twitter: Test/Debug Module 2 - tests to see if your Twitter Application is set to "Read & Write"

Your AdminCP's Plugin Manager, enable these plugins one by one, follow the instruction to change the userid to your userid and post the responses for both plugins here and we can see what is going on. Remember to disable them again once done.

Just as a suggestion. Could you possibly add a tick box to the end of the Hash tag text box maybe with default ticked. So if the poster don't want it tweeted they can deselect it?

Thanks

To be honest, that is not something that interests me at all, as I have already added all the hash tag functionality to this hack that I am going to add. AdminCP defined hash tags are supposed to unalterable by users, that is the way it should work. But if the need for this for one of my sites ever occurs, then I may change my mind.

Is the Twitter hash mark field in the editor visible to the user
Only if you select Only User defined Hashtags or Both User and AdminCP defined Hashtags.
even if the hash tags are Admin defined?
AdminCP defined Hashtags are only visible in the AdminCP.
also if you select no hash tags will the field be invisible
No Hashtag field in the editor will be visible to the user.

By the way, this hack also works with vBulletin 4.1.4 (which has the new CKEditor).

Try changing the execution order of the test plugins to 1 instead of 5 and see if that makes a difference. If that does not work, then while testing disable any other plugin that uses the global_bootstrap_init_start hook.

You should have an option to choose the usergroups which threads will be published.

The way it is now, my tweeter can get many spam messages before I realize that there is a spammer on my board.

An interesting idea. Sounds more like you just need to exclude one group? Is there some mod that puts users in a "pending full membership status" usergroup?

For example, let's say I have an usergroup that members with 100+ post are promoted into.

I would make this group enabled for twitter, because they most likely would not be spammers.

Hi, I have used this mod for a while and never had any issues with it until I installed the vb mobile app on top of an existing suite install.

Users were reporting invalid_api_signature errors and vb tech support suggested that I disable all products and plugins to see where the errors are coming from.

That's when I discovered that whenever I enable this mod the app generates random unexpected server response errors. As long as this mod is disabled I have received no trouble reports about that error. When I enable it again they come back. Not sure if it's a conflict with some other mod, the app, or something I have broken all by myself. Any suggestions for tracking down and fixing the source of that error?

HI,
I really hope you can help me out here. I have spent the last few hours trying to get this to work. I have read every post in this thread and still no joy!

I have installed and everything seems fine. I can add hash tags in a new threads and the thread posts fine but no tweet. I have installed everything twice over, changed and double checked every setting i can find and nothing.

If I use bitly I can see the threads get posted to their site but they wont add them to twitter (I can manually add them form there to twitter)

tried all the url shortenings and without any shortening. Different forums etc. Twitter feeds fine from my sites tweet buttons or form my facebook fan pages so i know its working.

I have also disabled every plug in and mod and still no change. I have the necessary curl and json on the server.

I tried to enable and run the extradiagnostic plug ins but I dont really understand them. I assume the userid to go in them is my twitter userid?

Then what do I do with them? I enabled them but nothing happens - tried adding a new thread and still nothing so I cant even post up the results from that!!!

I am running VB 4.1.4

any ideas anyone before I pull my hair out!!
