If you have Advanced Forum Rules for 3.x installed:
- Save your Rules to TXT document, to have it in case something goes wrong during upgrade
- This product will automatically save your old rules to a new table (used by vB4 version)
- Remove old version after upgrade if everything works as expected
Please report any bugs you discover.
Mark as Installed, and/or nominate/rate if you like it.

One issue.... a number ordered list using the [ list=1 ] code isn't adding the numbers for some reason.

Forgot to mention. One thing that would be awesome is to be able to edit the rules text such as bold, hyper links, etc with out doing all the html coding. A set up like when you are posting a new thread or something.

Is there any way to have all the rules show up when clicking "Forum Rules" in the navbar? I have it setup in different rule categories and the users have to manually view each rule category. I'd like to keep it separated by category, but I guess I'll put all the rules in one massive category if I have to.

Yep :) And it does let me edit the pages if I go in via the "manage rules" link on the actual rules page. Just takes me to the smilies page if I use the link of the same name/type in the AdminCP, which is a little odd.

Not sure if this is on your end, or another mod is conflicting with this one, as I do not have this issue.

I've also found a bug! I just added a new rule and specified a forum. How ever, I removed it because people not withint that usergroup saw the rules! And now people within that section are stuck of accepting the same rules over and over again. how do I solve this?

I don't want my current users to have to accept the rules again. But the option "Reset Acceptance Status For All Members" doesn't make it clear if it's going to accomplish that if I press the button.
I mean, is there an option to set all current users as having accepted Rules?
Valter
02-21-2010, 12:49 AM
This is automatically done on upgrade. (General Rules).
"Reset Acceptance Status For All Members" will force them all to re-accept.

"Reset Acceptance Status For All Members" will force them all to re-accept.That clears up what I suspected - "reset" in this case means to clear their prior acceptance.
But I'm sorry I don't understand about upgrading. I uninstalled all my add-ons when upgrading to 4.0.1, so I didn't actually 'upgrade' this mod, I installed it new. So they're all going to have to re-accept? Not a big deal, just wondering.

Question to coder:
Is there a possibility to add to the "Before Accepting Rules User Can Not" functions that the user can not see the CMS or blogs ?! this will be very userfull for me too !

HTML Code is not possible in the "Show 'More Rules' drop-down menu on Rules page" function - can you fix this ?! or is this not possible ?!

If you don't have the hack enabled, and go to the part of your site where the forum rules would generally show, you will get the smiley's page. The only way to correct this as of right now is to have the hack enabled,

I do not see the force users to read the rules again option on the user's profile. This mod was installed but i did not force everyone to read the rules so could it be that the user's have not accepted the rules so therefore i cannot force them to accept?
Also when i have the add forum rules to navbar enabled, it will double (showing 2 forum rules) when viewing profiles, etc...
Thanks :)

There's one thing not working: the ordered list isn't showing. When I add the code for the ordered listing, after submitting this listing, it doesn't show. But I see in this topic that this problem has already been submitted weeks ago.
Does this work with other people? I think it's an important part of showing the rules, since this is basically always a sorted list?

Hi,
Strangly I as admin see the rules... but I can't accept them. Other users don;t even see the rules, let alone to accept them :).
Why is this.. ? Any idea.. I logged in as a user, clicked on the forum rules and the page did not display the accept rules page and also didn't show the rules... but when I look at users profile, you can see that see didn;t accept the forum rules.. So strange :).
Should I reinstall this .. ? or.. ?
Thanks.

This isn't a problem with Valter's mod, since it happens on two other mods I wanted to install plus a custom static page I created myself. I don't know the solution but the problem is with the vBulletin 4.x code or CSS, which effectively cripples certain features including ordred or unordered lists.
Whether this is a bug or by design isn't clear, although if the latter I cannot understand the rationale for disabling certain BBCode or HTML features.

Hi,
I have installed this and no problems, but I am not able to get the users to see the accept forum rules button... I have checked this also with another nick, but still it only shows, user has not accepted the forum rules...
Even when I click on the forum rules link, I just see the link, but nothing to accept the forum rules, is this correct ???
Thanks.
p.s. I have also done a full reset, sothat everybody needs to accept it again, but this also didn't work. Any clue ?

Registration Rules are accepted separately.
They need to accept this product's rules before posting or viewing forums, depending on your settings in product options.

2. link to invoke a single rule on any such calls.

Thats what Im saying the option does not show for force user to accept rules on the user profile unless they have accepted the rules once already but for new members that have not posted yet they list have not accepted with no option to force.
The main problem is some of the simple quick posts are done thru the vsa chat box I have so they are not asked to accept rules (besides during registration) until they try to post in forums.
I just want to be able to force user to accept rules even if they have not accepted at any other time.
Is this something that should be there but is not on mine or is this something that is just not there at all?

Is this something that should be there but is not on mine or is this something that is just not there at all? That sounds the opposite of what I was upset about. When I installed it clean in vb4, by default nobody had accepted rules, although in reality they all did in vb3.8. So I can't understand why all your users didn't have to accept when you installed it - mine did, and raised a stink about it.
Hi Valter.

I found that the time delay on the accept button wasn't working for some mobile browsers so had to take the time delay down to '0' to allow the button to show and for people to accept them
then there should be a no script version of the "accept" button even if it is with loss of delay functionality.

Upset? Why? After hit [Send Message] button, rulles appears, user need to accept them, then reply will be sent. Otherweise, he does not accept section/forum rules, so the message will be not sent.
Why? Because some (lot of them) users again and again does not accepting rules in one special forum section. I don't ban them, but if i show them that rules every time when they want to post, i think, lot of them says "Hey, i forgot this" and maybe they edit their post.

Would it be possible to not having to accept the rules separately? I feel the point of adding the rules to the registration is somewhat useless if users must accept it one more time straight after registration.
desperately need this mod to convert from "forum rules" to "site rules".

Hi... I think this is not the reason. I have been notified by a guest about this less than 2 hours after the activation of the plugin.
I have then tried myself with different browsers and different accounts and the issue is persisting.... any idea?
Some more informations that may help to understand what is happening:
if I go to the profile of one of these users with the admin account I can read that the rules have been accepted "Rules accepted: 06-24-2010, 10:53 PM"
But it's not true. If the users go back and try to start a thread, they are redirected to the Forum Rules
Even if I change the timer to 0, the loop persists
P.s. in other forums using the same application it works

I agree, Valter! Thank you so much for a fabulous mod!
I had a similar issue with the CSS. Most of the styling was there, but it seemed to be missing the components from the additional.css template. (I'm not storing my style sheets externally/as files.)
Here's what worked for me to fix the styling of the rules page. I have no idea if this is the best way, but it seems harmless enough! LOL!
Edit the template Valter Templates ? vsa_frules and add the following after {vb:raw headinclude}:
{vb:cssfile additional.css}
Then scroll down to find the background and text colors for the "highlight" bars at the top and bottom of the rules page. Change them to match your color scheme, save, and you're good to go.
Hope this helps! :)

You can stop Guests viewing threads, but I'm not sure it's a good idea. Remember this will also block search bots and your external RSS provider. AdminCP>Usergroups>User Group Manager>edit Unregistered/Not logged in>Forum Viewing permissions.
A much better solution is Limited Guest Viewing -- Motivate Guests to Register (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=231352) which allows search bots and teasers while encouraging people to join.

Great, you fixed the vsa_frules template. I fixed it some days ago because I have css definitions in additional.css and "{vb:raw headinclude_bottom}" instruction was missing.
Thank you for this great mod.
Thanks for this great mod
Is it possible to hide the VSa - Chatbox also till a user have accept the rules ? Or at least a message the user must first accept the forum rules before he can do any shout in the chatbox.
Please advise
Is the "unable to accept rules if script is disabled" (mainly people using mobile browsers) problem has been fixed yet?

Can I just ask a question .. after doing some reading, I'm seeing that for every post or thread someone makes they need to say they agree to the forum's rules or can be set that way if you like?

As a future feature I would like to suggest the option to allow separate permission settings for each rule. So in addition to the already separate rules and per forum rules....
Example:
RULE 1
Before Accepting Rules User Can Not: View Forums, View Threads
RULE 2
Before Accepting Rules User Can Not: Post Threads, Post Replies
This way users wouldn't have to read/accept certain rules depending on what they are doing in the forum. If they are just VIEWING then no need to accept certain rules. But if they decide to POST then that would trigger them to read/accept a certain set of rules.

need, they either agree, or they leave..its that simple.

How the hell do YOU know what I NEED? My forum currently has over ~200,000 members and receives over ~80,000+ visits per day, so don't try to act like you know what it is that I need. I have lots of different sections of my forum that require members to know and understand SPECIFIC RULES/GUIDELINES before they can be posting in those forums. Rather than force ALL members to read those SPECIFIC RULES/GUIDELINES it would be much simpler to just force only those members who are attempting to POST in those sections as the SPECIFIC RULES/GUIDELINES only apply to those users.

all "Usergroups excluded from restrictions" can read the text.. if i register a bot ttest i can read it at end of form.. but if i look in forum rule by my self, with a non "Usergroups excluded from restrictions" status, i can see page but, and button with timer, but not the rule text himself, and not see scrool rule list

I have a huge problem with this mod.
When I try do disable it, the users STILL can't post. They always get the "don't have permission to..." message and even when I enable it and change the settings, it still doesn't let them post.
I've tried to unnistall it, and even then it STILL won't let the users post.
Please, I need help desperately, as my users are starting going ballistic on me!

If so, then you should probably post a lot more info. What versions of vb and afr are you running? Was afr working previously? Maybe a screenshot of your admincp vfr settings. And of course a forum link and a test account.

This has always been one of the best mods out there and I've used it for many, many years...back when it was Cyb instead of VSa. :)
Feature request: Is it possible to modify this mod so that new users cannot create a signature (or even edit their profile beyond the initial registration) without accepting the rules? What I'm seeing a lot of is signature spammers that never actually post anything in the forums.

This is what I have asked for in this past. People have claimed it does this now, but it does not, unless mine just isn't working right.
Like you, I have people who come, register, and completely fill out their profiles and signatures and never return. Sad thing is, I know they are REAL people, but still.

Here's a small bug for you (see attachment)
I still have the same issue. It seems that adding a carriage return/hard return after "Rules Accepted:" might fix the problem. It seems to just be the date format used in our case is much longer than just numbers (December 24th 2010 as opposed to 12-24-2010 for example)

I would also like it if you could choose what rules show on which forums. We have some private forums I'd like to display special rules for without showing the General Rules again.

My temporary fix is to edit the XML file included with this modification.
On line 1160 there will be text --> style="white-space:nowrap"
Change nowrap to wrap and it works. Not the way I want with the entire date on a new line but I am working on that still.
After our upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 (and 4.1.1) this mod is simply showing a blank page. Is this an known issue or is something horribly broken?
Since its a full upgrade, all .php files are totally new and fresh (no "hacks" etc.). So i'm not sure where the error lies.
(This is the same for all addons other VSa addons that use misc.php)

Installed & unstalled:down:
Hi there, I figured an issue and I think it's caused by this mod: when the mod is enabled the feature "Mark This Forum Read" inside of forums is not working properly. Which means when you click on Mark This Forum Read in the Thread Tools it's not marking the threads of the according forum as read. Only when you leave the forum and re-enter they are appearing as read.
When I disable the mod everything works fine. Do you have any ideas what the reason could be and how to fix it?
Thankyou very much!

Awesome mod, quick install.
Thank you.
Marked as installed.
Even after uninstalling the mod on the bottom of all pages is a link to the misc.php?vsa_rules page. Also the terms of service link is still pointing to that link.
How can I really revert this so that everything is pointing again to the normal TOS?

I have one problem. During registration user accepts a "General Rules", right? Especially, if you have an option "Registration Rules Options - Replace with General Forum Rules". Ok, but after registration user still have "Forum Rules NOT accepted" if profile and therefore must accept the General Rules once more. Is that a bug? How can I make "accepting Registration Rules = accepting General Rules"? Please please please answer asap ..

I am running the 5.0.1 version. When should I upgrade this plugin to 5.0.2? Now or when I will have 4.1.3 already installed?

You don't need to do a restore of the database, just us the tools.php file and instructions and you should be able to turn back on the forum and also reset your admin as well. That is what I did. There is a new user there with super admin privileges that you need to delete which is teamadimus all other fields are empty. I am going through restoring the titles manually and checking that they are all correctly set as well, very time consuming but I only have 600 users. Also I don't know the SQL terminology well enough to do it in a command line in myphpadmin.
I was hacked about 5 days ago. Lost everything on my site except my members and posts.
*** I'm in no way saying this was the why I was hacked!!! ( PM for details of the redirect setup if you want ), I honestly don't know what happened, just thought it was interesting.***

USERS WITH AFFECTED FORUMS:
1) Make a backup of your database (yes even post-hacked copy)
2) Goto ACP - Usergroup Manager - select each usergroup
3) For each, find 'General Settings' - 'Can Use Custom Title' set to No.
4) Goto your cpanel/web hosting control panel, access phpMyAdmin
5) Select (click) your database for your vB4 forum on the left column
6) On the right side of the page, choose the top tab - 'SQL', a large empty text box should appear
7) Paste the following into the box:
UPDATE user SET usertitle = replace(usertitle, "Hacked by Team Animus", "")
Hit the Go button.
8) It should say following xxx number of tables affected.. this should match to the number of users (approximately, some aren't affected)
9) Go back to AdminCP - Maintenance - Update Counters
10) Hit 'Rebuild User Titles & Ranks'
11) OPTIONAL - Go back to Maintenance option group on left, hit 'Repair & Optimize'
12) Select 'Check All' in upper right of list of entries
13) Scroll down, check both 'Optimize & Repair', hit OK

Never think you are 100% safe.
Expensive operating systems, programs, scripts,... are constantly updated for security.
Why? Because anything can be hacked.
I'm sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused.

You should have always been really careful, but this is the risk you take when you install 3rd party modifications to a script. There are thousands of modifications on this site, and they are all made by humans...who from time to time, are known to make mistakes ;).
Truthfully, I'd prefer to use Valter's mods now because now that he has had this issue, I'm sure he'll be making sure 110% that his future mods are VERY throughly checked.
