Yes I agree with the above sentiments, one can only try and stay ahead of the Ba$tards and update when things happen. Fortunately I was able to get up and running again within about 20 mins after reading some info that helped me, but I was actually logged in when they do the hack, so new something was up straight away and then that email came regarding the Mod, which flagged the reason as well.
They didn't get some of their code in due to other measures we have in place on my server.
Thanks for the quick fix to the mod, greatly appreciated.

New feature request:
On our forums we need explicit acceptance of some rules, mainly for European privacy reasons. Would it be possible to add accept/not accept ckeckboxes and store the choice somewhere?
Along with this feature we also need an option for each choice which makes the user pass or not. For example, upon registration they must accept that we use cookies and that we keep their username, password and email on our servers. In addition there are a couple of more laws to obbey. Each rule must be confirmed separately.
If they don't agree, they can't proceed on registration. For us, it would be fine, if we could define a user field and tell the rule which field name to use.

The Forum Rules page loads as a blank page, I have VB 4.0.7 and VBSEO. Any idea why?
I can't manage any rules either, leads to a blank white page. I just downloaded the updated plugin today, I upgraded from the last version released in November.
EDIT-----
I re-imported the plugin and pages load correctly now.

That little bug was a bit more than I would have appreciated. Made me a lot of additional work. I won't install anymore Modifications from you until I can be sure there isn't something like this in again.
I always appreciated your mods, you had a few really great ones. But now I am rather careful. :(
That's the risk you take when you install 3rd party mods. Luckly I never installed this one on my forum. So I got lucky otherwise I'd probably gotten hacked too.
As I said in the other thread you posted this in....
Pretty sure he sleeps and has a life too.....
He was on earlier today btw
That's fine, but he has TONS of time to post a quick post letting everyone know that his HACK has a EXPLOIT and users should disable it ASAP. That would prevent other users, who have NOT been hacked yet to save themselves.
But I am glad he has got an update for everyone fairly fast.
He fixed the reported exploit last night. Since then I imagine hes been in bed, since he is in Europe and it was just early morning here when you posted. I suggest you think about what you are saying before spouting off.
Spouting off? I have a life as well. I don't sit here and calculate time nor do I check it. If he had posted earlier that he was on top of things. Then no one would need to post. So of course I will state what I did when I see not even a simple posts to state what is going on.
So before you go after another member look at others actions as well. I see nothing wrong with what I did so don't threaten me. I didn't break any rules and I made a simple comment. If I broke a rule please show me. But don't go around threatening me. I know if I did the same to you.. you wouldn't be happy either.

Check what? Who cares if he came online or not. The fact is he never made any posts. I think you need to check before you point your finger at someone when you have no proof your self.
As for of off topicing I never did that. I was posting a reply to your message.
And if you read my earlier message before that, I wasn't even addressing you or talking to you at all. So I have no idea why you want to jump in on a post that was never even pointed towards you. It was addressed for the OP.
So technically you off topiced the post, since you mention the mouthing off part first. When I was really just looking for a reply from Valter. LMAO and yet you call me the one that needs to grow up. Hilarious sir!
The whole time I was talking about the problem with the mod and how the creator never addressed the members early off.
So once again before you point the finger and someone look at your own actions too.
Great. What are you doing here then?
I don't see a rule where it states members can't post in a forum of a mod they have not installed.
Freedom of speech.
I'm just talking for the people, who are too scared to say anything.
As well as I find it ironic that you post when someone posts something negative about your work. But when someone needs your help or asks a question you never post at all.
And I don't mean that you should get back to someone right away or even within a day. Obviously you have a life too and don't get paid for this kinda work. But I think within 2 weeks would be nice to get back to a person's question. And I am referring to other mods not this one directly.

Well my post WAS specific to this mod. It had an exploit and the creator never made a post about it.
On the other hands, I see that emails are sent out, IF and WHEN someone puts the mod into the quarantine section. But that took awhile in the mean time people's websites were taken offline.
Anyways I am done with this discussion. No point in taking this thread apart with all these replies.
Some people will agree and some won't and heck some won't understand at all.
It's all fine by me.

this would be very nice and a good improvement for multilanguage boards

When sharing a thread to Facebook and the Advanced Forum Rules plugin is enabled the thread title doesn't get picked up by the Facebook Spider. Instead the Forum Title is sent.
i.e If I share a thread with title : Test Post 1 found on Test forum to Facebook.
On facebook it reads :
X Shared Link
Test Forum
www.testforum.com/thread/test-post-1
When it should actually read :
X Shared Link
Test post 1
www.testforum.com/thread/test-post-1
Interestingly enough the blog posts are not affected and display the titles fine.
The spider displays and unknown location in WOL so I take it its been redirected to the Accept Rules page? Or something of the sort.
The workaround is to uncheck the Users Must Accept Rules to : View Forums | View Threads or set the unregistered group in the excluded list it seems to work.

The dev is going to need more information in order to know what he is supposed to look for. How do we know this isn't a problem with only your site?
Hi Valter,
this is a really fine and needed mod and comes in very handy. Especially the display of the time and date, a user has accepted the rules - but may I have a suggestion?
I had to set up a whole set of rules. In particular we are talking about 7 different rules for 7 different scenarios. Let me put it in an example so the problem gets clearer: If user A accepts rule 1 but not rules 2 to 7 noone could tell which rule user A has accepted. Could be everything from rule 1 to 7. Means, he could have accepted a minor one (#3) while he disregards #1/general rules.
I would be glad you could do some changes to that so admins and mods could see, which rules a user accepted and when, and which one he disregards until now. Guess the best place to display that would be the memberprofile page, where you already placed the display of rules accepted.
What do you think about that? Any chance?

Cron based backups...use it...love it... https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=231481
Probably better off dping a full backup if you use Cpanel. That way you ALSO backup the files instead of just the database. Since many mods here use extra files. If you are missing them and can't remember which ones you need.
Then having a full backup is much better. And with server speeds these days it takes less than 2-3 mins.

Personally I rsync off from my dedicated server to a cloud server for all my files, which also pulls my db backups that are run daily :p

I think the best way is to use cPanel to setup a daily backup with weekly and monthly retentions and install MySQLDumper and set that up to make automatic backups. If your forum is not THAT large, you can set MySQLDumper to run every two hours or so. You can even set it up to transfer the backups to another servers of yours using FTP or just randomly download the latest backup every week or so just in case your server's HDD fails.
If you don't know how to setup cPanel/WHM cron backups... simply ask your host and I'm pretty sure they'll do it for you ;)

Hi Valter.
Is there any way to make this mod work for users using Opera Mini?
some of my users can't post anymore as they are using Opera mini and they are unable to accept the rules.
Hi,
Has this issue been resolved?
My customers using opera have to flip to IE (/shudder) to accept the rules, on opera the button is just greyed out.
Thanks
Hi Valter,
for some reason we are experiencing a weired behaviour, may be a bug.
Users who have already accepted the rules reported back, they couldn´t send PMs. All they see is the rules pages with the timed counter. Even when they accept the rules again, with the next PM they run into a loop which brings them back to the rules page over and over again.
It happens when sending a PM from the user menue inside a post, replying to a PM etc. It doesn´t, when a user is sending a PM from inside his own profile.
(Anyone else experiencing that?)
Settings were set, that PMs can only be send by users who accepted the rules before. I disabled that now temporarly.
Could you be so kind to have a look inside that issue and come up with a fix for that?

Has this Mod got still a problem with hackers being able to inject into lockout admins as this happened to me again today, and looking for what did it, but at this stage unable to find out why. Though only been looking for the past hour. I thought I would post this in case others strike the same problem as I have. I had to use tools.php to allow me access to my admincp which I had in fact changed the name of, and in the config.php file as well.

There are no "known" current issues with this modification, yes previously however it was patched. If however you do determine this was the cause and have proof simply report the modification post and include the information at hand so we can review otherwise it could be another method being used on your site perhaps?

Fixes menu issue of the ( >Forum Rules ) now appears as ( Forum Rules )
Fixes the Smilies Issue. Edited php code which wasnt written correctly.
30 Members have tested our edited version so far, not a problem yet, and no smilies ;)
* to fix: redirect url on rules acceptance.
I've tried over and over, but the same issue stands: clicking on the Manage Forum Rules link leads to the Smilies page, even with all other mods disabled. It's not an issue of whether or not members can see the rules, it's an issue of whether admins can actually change those rules in the AdminCP. Something is clearly being overlooked for this issue to still stand.

Same issue as myself.
Assistance would be great.

I am using 4.1.4. It just keeps bringing the smiley page up no matter what I do.
Would TMS/VSa's other modifications be interfering?
I have his Moderater Stats installed and it works fine though.

I would suspect it is another mod causing the issue. I don't have the Moderater Stats mod.
I recommend disabling all other mods and the plugins as well. I have found in the past that just disabling the mods was not enough I had to also make the plugins inactive.

Hi, our site was recently hacked, some kind of a malicious code automation / root kit type of script planted on the server that inserts some codes into my files causing the issues. Its base64 encoded and starts with "<?php eval(gzuncompress(base64_decode('eF5Tcffxd3L0CY" followed by a combination of a lot of random numbers. - https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/391213-Do-I-need-to-Create-a-new-style-after-upgrading-to-4-1-8?p=2234549&viewfull=1#post2234549

Thanks

The fundamental flaws in previous versions were fixed and nothing in vB4.1.8 has effect on this mod.
Several coders have reviewed the code, I looked at every injection possibility having been burnt with the previous problems.
We will be upgrading to 4.1.8 in about a week, I've got it in test without issues.

Note, I love this mod, its brilliant. However I did run into 1 unexpected problem that after abit of investigation was easy to fix but had me looking all over for a permission setting that didn't exist and probably should.
I found that only usergroup 6 (Default Admin) could manage the forum rules, and while that's normally fine for 99.99% of the forums that exist, my case I needed to setup a separate usergroup for myself for various reason because it just works better than having me, the primary site admin, mixed in with the other 3 admins. However when I went to configure the rules it threw me threw a hoops as the mod appeared broken when I'd click on the manage rules portion from the admin menu and had it redirect me to smiles info instead.
For anyone interest in the fix, I simply opened the plugin VSA_Rules_RA and modified all the lines that called out usergroup, 6 and added a comma and the number of my usergroup after it.
If this mod is still being updated I would recommend that they include a setting for adding or changing the admin usergroup =)

- I always do a search before posting, the only viable solution i found to my problem seemed to be related to this post https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2097929&postcount=156 But this did not work for me.
- I've tried it with FF and Chrome.
- If a mod was disrupting it, wouldn't this not function at all? Everything works fine but just the accept button refuses to show. Nevertheless i would try it on our testing forum again later with all the mods off but for now I've uninstalled it.

I have some pre-install questions to which I've not yet found answers. I'm still looking, but please allow me to ask them anyway:
1) Can this add-on be configured to require acceptance of rules and a liability waiver prior to viewing specific categories and sections within the vBulletin 4.X CMS? (NOT interested in the forums, PMs and email functions so much.) For unregistered/guest users as well as those who ARE registered?
2) Can this add-on be configured to require re-acceptance whenever the rules/waiver are CHANGED?
3) Can this add-on be configured to require re-acceptance at an Admin-defined interval such as every 90 days? (Calculated individually, from the date of each user's last acceptance; NOT resetting everyone all at once.)
4) If the answer to any of the above is "no", can these tweaks be hired/commissioned?
Thanks.

That's really my problem to deal with.
In our case it's a liability thing. A few select sections and categories in our CMS are devoted to modifications and maintenance of motorcycle brakes, steering, etc. In order to protect the club's officers, directors and assets, we need an acknowledgement that users have been informed about the risks.
"The information here is presented without warranty and without assurance of its fitness for any particular purpose. Use this information at your own risk." <-- that sort of thing.
It's not about "rules" in our case. And if they can't spare one lousy click every 90 days or so, then tough.

This morning you've moved the link back to the menu bar, removed the default style as an option, and are left with some invisible acceptance text, so I guess you're working on it. Awesome mod, thank you Valter! This is a really great feature to add to any vB forum.
Is there a way to allow Mods to see "Force User To Accept Forum Rules" in member profiles, so they may also force a member to read a set of rules again? Not just Admin.
I installed the Mod , and i personally like it ,
but while we are testing it , we come across a little problem .
New user who is posting need to agree with the rules and ticking the BOX , but after the agree it go back to the Same page again asking them to AGree with the rules again . and the process go over and over again . looping the user in the agreement cycle .
-----------
Would be cool if there user need to Agree every time there Create a Thread . Like DP .
I had disable for the time being and i hope a solution can be found soon .

Welcome.
I found a bug that causes the large number of different regulations (for different forums), you can not accept the rules. The problem is when they run out of space in the user table, in the vsafrules_sets pool, which has a size of 20 characters. If you change the field size (for example to 40 characters), system allows users to accept the rules.
Please note the change in the number of allowed characters for vsafrules_sets of VARCHAR (20) for min vsafrules_sets VARCHAR (40).

could be a vbseo issue. i had a similar issue, there is a fix on vbseo site. :erm: first try disabling any other plugin such as vbseo
I do not have vbseo installed on my forum.
I will however try to disable all the other mods which are not many and see if this fixes the problem.

This looks great, I guess I should wait for any answers to the 4.2 questions.
Hi,
I've just installed it.. but I want it to show before the registration form. So, user must click the agree button first before decided to become a member. Just like on vBulletin version 3.

I've just been informed by my co-admin that a lot of new users are showing as having accepted the rules on 12-31-1969. But not all. His words: I just noticed that some of our new members are accepting rules on 12/31/1969 (attached). At least one legit user did accept rules on the current date-he posted about a lost dog.I wonder if there's a hack going around for this mod?

Whenever you see smilies it means an "unknown error" has occurred. First thing I would suspect is your custom style. Second would be another mod. You're going to have to try disabling them both.

It's still happening. However, it seems that only registrants accepting the rules on current date are posting. Perhaps those showing rule acceptance in "1969" aren't being granted posting privileges?

What is going on?Probably a browser issue if you can see them in your account with regular member privs. Have them try a different browser - it could be one of their add-ons blocking things. Of course from your own regular member account you should try all the browsers you can get your hands on.

After updating this, the lime ''forum rules'' link disappeared.
How can I get it back?
As far as I know, it's set to show it.
I?ve set my rules to be replaced with the general rules for registration. But if a new user registers (and has to accept the rules in process) they do not appear as accepted. Instead he has to accept them again if he trys to use the restricted functions. After that they do appear as accepted. But it?s kind of annoying if users have to accept them twice. I hope you can help me on this ;)

Installed it on my testforum which I'm using to develop my new project,
Definitely will keep it, works particularly well with Registration Optimisation (which doesn't show the rules at registration).
Is there a way to reset acceptance for everybody? e.g. for when you have a substantial update to the rules that you want everybody to accept fresh.
Edit:
On closer examination I've found the option to do that!
Great mod. I would like some help though. Currently the rules page looks almost like the rest of our forum but the background for the rules is not there. Plus there's no border. If it helps when I edit under the "Style Variable Editor" - "NavBar" - "Navigation Bar Link Color" I can change the color of all the other links in the row that this link is in but the color of the "Forum Rules" link does not change.

My apologies for being vague, but there really isn't any other information for me to give. I have successfully imported many mods from here, all of the "VSa" mods do not work. If there is further instruction it isn't included with the Mod. The mod doesn't cause any damage or make the system unstable, it simply just doesn't do anything.
When I click on the XML file to import it, the browser will think about it for about 10 seconds and then go to the "Page cannot be displayed" page (which I'm assuming, means it timed out).
This is a fairly fresh install and I even tried it disabling all existing plug-ins with the same result.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Very helpful... :rolleyes:Actually that may be the ultimate solution. Until there are a lot of people running the latest version - and if they're having trouble with it - often the easiest path is to just downgrade to where everything was working normally.
If it's your own server I can't help, but if you're on a shared server then hosts never upgrade without leaving an easy downgrade option available. Usually this just means making an entry in a server config file somewhere (you'll have to ask them). Of course, if it's a shared server you should ask them anyway because the problem may be in some obscure new security setting (applies to your own server too).

when i click manage rules i get taken to smileys page? Before installing any mod you must read the mod's entire thread, or at least the last few pages. Some don't work at all and some require special attentions. Before asking a question, always "Search this mod" (look to the upper right). A search on 'smiley' brings up enough to tell you what's going on.
Lastly, before anyone could help we need a lot more info than just "it doesn't work". Links, assurances that you've tried it with all your other mods disabled, everything else you've done to try to fix it, assurances you've read the whole thread, etc.
is it only me who has blank page issue with mobile template?

Purely amazing. Works like a charm. This could be used for other things, such as a TOS page instead of forum rules. You should make an option so you can change the text. Meaning like instead of it saying "Forum Rules" give the option to change the text to something more appealing/suite our forums. Like people would want to change it to their website rules. For example, instead of it being "Forum Rules" give the option to change the text and make it custom like; "TOS & Rules!" or "Rules for the forums!" or some customization like that. Does that make sense?
Nevertheless, this is excellent, thanks.
