By default VB4 sidebar will be shown only on forum home page. This mod Will display the Sidebar everywhere in the forum. This mod assumes that you already set your sidebar block from "forum blocks manager".

Current Version:
1.5.3 (Free)
2.2.13 (Gold)

Demo:
Latest Technology (http://last24tech.com/forum.php)

Features :
Add ESB to Blog (Gold version only).

Option to replace blog sidebar by ESB (Gold version only).
Option to set blog sidebar width (Gold version only).
Show sidebar in the vbcms pages (Gold version only).
Rotating Ad system included in the sidebar (Gold version only).
Filter Block by usergroups (Gold version only).
More options with advance settings of the sidebar (Gold version only).

The sidebar will be displayed everywhere in the forum.
With more than 20 setting you can enable and disable sidebar very easily on any any page.
You can hide sidebar in the excluded forums mod options.
You can show sidebar for all or show it for non members.
Now you don't have to enable sidebar from option. Enabling this mod will enable sidebar everywhere. But you need to set sidebar blocks from "forum blocks manager".
All previous bugs have been fixed.
The ability to exclude certain usergroups.
The ability to turn sidebar off for certain forum styles.
The ability to place the side bar on custom pages.
The ability to control displaying sidebar when forum is closed.
The ability to set different blocks for different forums [ver 1.2].
Don't Allow sidebar to be collapsed and force it to be always visible[ver 1.3]. To enable this you need to set "Don't hide ESB switch" from mod options to yes.
In 1.3.3 you have ability to exclude groups from the above feature that is to be always visible. So that the excluded group members will be able to collapse ESB.
In 1.3.4 the vertical collapse button is removed and blocks is forced to by expanded if "Don't hide ESB switch" is set to yes as requested in this post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2083886&postcount=494)
In 1.4.1 pl1 custom html/php block bug and some other bugs were fixed.
In 1.4.3 you can set sidebar width and sidebar button top alignment from mod options.

Requested Features [ To Do ] :
-

Mod requirements:
The mod is tested on default vb style with no other mods. So we gurantee that mod will work on the default vb style with no conflict with other mod.
As a courtesy we may make minor fix so the plugin works on styles other than the default but we are not hold to it.

Installation:

1. Download plugin.
Only free ver:If you are using vb4.1.11 or above download the "cssrollup_everywhere_sidebar.xml" and upload "cssrollup_everywhere_sidebar.xml" to /includes/xml directory.

2. Login to your vBulletin admincp.

3. Open "Plugins & Products", and go to "Manage Products".

4. Click on "[Add/Import Product]".

5. Import the product-everywhere_sidebar_xxx.xml file that you download. Make sure you set "allow overwrite" to "yes".
Only free ver:Also if you are updating the product you need to disable then enable (or even un-install then install) the product to let the product knows about the "cssrollup_everywhere_sidebar.xml".

Optional steps for setting different blocks for different forums and pages:

6. Go to mod options
Admincp->Settings->options->EveryWhere Sidebar (ESB) options

7. Go down until you see "Block Configuration Switch" check "yes" and save.

8. Go to you forum home you will see all your blocks even the empty ones with blockid below each blcok as in this picture.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/05/29.jpg

9. Any block you want to hide add its block id with colon on "Filter Blocks by forums" or "Filter Blocks by page" text box in the mod options. For example to hide block_html_7 on all forums except forum id 1 and 2 we will add this "block_html_7:1,2" without qoutes to "Filter Blocks by forums"box; and to hide it in all other pages except faq and calendar we will add this "block_html_7:faq,calendar" without qoutes to "Filter Blocks by pages" box. See picture below
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/05/29.jpg

10 To hide inactive blocks and blockid title for admins set back "Block Configuration Switch" to "No" and save

Optional step to force sidebar to be always visible and hide collapse button :

11. Go to mod options
Admincp->Settings->options->EveryWhere Sidebar (ESB) options

12. Set "Don't hide ESB switch" to "yes" and save.

Optional steps for Translation install:
Download the german translation from here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=120009&stc=1&d=1279954629)
To import the German translation goes as follows:
Admincp => Languages & Phrases download => Languages / upload => Click on "EITHER upload the XML file from your computer" click Browse and select the translation from => at "Language Override chooses her German => Import => Done

Optional steps for vBadvanced:(Not supported)
This thread is created by qG ThaLiX, he asked then he answers his question intersting thread. I don't have vBadvanced but it seams it is working from the replies.
http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40407

Instructions for custom pages:

$templater->register('sidebarext', $sidebarext);
$templater->register('sidebaropen', $sidebaropen);

To Fix Quickreply width:
If you have the problem of quickreply coming to wide please use Mike instructions to fix Forum bug:

1. Open editor.css and find

editor_textbox.quickreply textarea {
height:100px;
}

.editor_textbox.quickreply iframe {
height:106px;
}

2. Change it to

.editor_textbox textarea {
height:100px;
}
.quickreply textarea {
height:100px;
width: 80%;
}

.editor_textbox.quickreply iframe {
height:106px;
}

To Adjust sidebar top level:

form admincp

open forumhome.css in the style you want to change or use the master style to effect all styles

change the padding size for #sidebar_container as you wish
eg
padding:50px 0;
Note:In the new vb versions sidebar css has been moved from forumhome.css to separate file called sidebar.css
Most asked question:

Q:I've installed your sidebar mod and it works fine except on the forumhome! The sidebar is showing at the bottom of the page. Any idea how to fix it?

A:It is either due to one of these:
1. you are using a custom style that is changing the forumhome look.
2. You are using a nother mod that is changing the content of froumhome before this ESB.

ESB needs to see this in forumhome <div id="pagetitle">
So to tix this problem you either need to make sure that <div id="pagetitle">
exist in the correct location or change ESB forumhome plugin to search for a new phrase.

for the latest version 1.4.1+ it looks for
{vb:raw navbar}
and
{vb:raw footer}
so if you are setting new style make sure not to remove or change {vb:raw navbar}
and
{vb:raw footer}
location to get sidebar in the proper location.

And you would think it would have just been default....

here's another.....can you make DUAL sidebars enabled for all pages in the forum?

AND, can you add a specification in the admincp to set a fixed width for the sidebars?

AND, can you add a permission for blocks, so admins can specify which users CAN see a block?

AND, can you add the option to let individual blocks NOT be collapsible, vertically? For example, let user minimze recent post or other blocks, but NOT mandatory blocks that show ads? And if user permissions are associated with blocks, then site subscribers, who pay not to see ads, will not see the ad blocks. We use this function a lot.

AND, can you add the option to NOT allow the entire sideblock to be minimized?

This would make your mod exactly what I need. A must have.

Need money as encouragement?

Doesn't Work
What it dose not work?
Have you enabled sidebar in the options and the forum blocks manager?

Would be great if we can choose to display the sidebar in forumdisplay only, or showthread only.

If a lot of people request this i may add more option to this mod

My original idea is to keep it simple as much as possible

Ok, I found some issues that will come up with this depending on what you do with your website.

The forum sidebars can contain any PHP/HTML you want.

So I created a sidebar that displayed the "Who's Online" like I used to have in a VBAdvanced Block.

This works fine until you do something like try to edit your avatar. When you click that link, you get an error because the necessary includes aren't in that page for Who's Online to work.

So I'm not saying this mod is broken (it really isn't), but with the unlimited things you can add to a sidebar, doing this this way can lead to some serious issues later down the road when you start installing custom sidebars (as people, yourselves) make them.

I've had to disable it for now until I can try and think of a way around it.

Would it be possible to have differnet sidebars on differnet forum pages?
That way a forum could display a lot more info such as specific ads on specific forums, like car ad in a car forum and truck ads in a truck forum.

Anyway this mod is a big help, Thanks.:)

ThorstenA

Suggestion: Change the position of the sidebar on all pages (including the original FORUMHOME) to let it displayed from the top! Currently it is looking like this

Forumhome
Forumhome text
Forumlist Sidebar (2nd line)

Forumdisplay
Announcement line 1
Announcement line 2
Create topic
Show topics from 1 - 40 Sidebar (4th line)

Showthread
Create Topic Show all posts
Posts Sidebar (2nd line)

Better would be to have the sidebar on the top right on all pages, and not moving up and down once you click on forumdisplay or showthread. Do you understand what I want to suggest?

Then it must be something wrong with your forum. Or you are using some other mod that is changing your forum inner codes.

It's likely another mod. It's just odd that your code only works on threads and search results but not the faq, calendar, albums, and member list. There's no mod I have that does anything unique to those functions.

It's not terribly important. I just disabled the plugins for those pages and use it for the others.

Could it be that you have your sidebar on the left, ours is on the right? Not sure how that would cause it, but that's the only difference I see off the bat

The Text box becoming very wide in the Quickreply is not replated to this mod. This is happening to members and mod's and not admin's (That is way I couldn't see it before). Without installing this mod using IE8 if you resize your browser the textbox of the quixkreply will not resize and this is only happening in IE8.

I'v reported this as a bug in vbullerin.com.

From admincp go to "Forums & Moderators" then "Forum Blocks Manager" and add your block to be displayed in your sidebar

Also you need to enable sidebar from "Forum Sidebar and Block Options" in admincp settings options

from admincp open plugin manager then at "Product : EveryWhere Sidebar" edit global_start in the php code find

if ($vbulletin->options['bbactive'] and $vbulletin->options['esidebar_switch']) {

replace it with

Possible addition for next version (if it hasn't been mentioned already) - the ability to turn sidebar off for certain forum styles if possible.

Currently trying to install a Mobile style for people using phones etc to browse so would be handy if we could turn the sidebar off for people browsing in this style ;)

One of the to do list is controlling showing or hiding the sidebar when forum is closed

At the begining I thought hiding sidebar when forum is closed is better but it turned out that some people want it to be shown

Hi, Firstly great Mod. This should be default with the VB Forum Blocks option.

Secondly I have a problem. Your MOD considers usergroup to display the side blocks but it only considers the primary user group and not additional usergroup. So say I have a user ABC belonging to usergroup "X" who is also a Moderator (Additional Usergroup). If I set in this Mod's option to disable the side block for Mods, still user ABC will see the side-block because his primary user group is not Moderator. Hope you can help me with that.

almannai,

I really love this mod but one thing that is troubling is how the pagination is handled when the sidebar is present on the forumdisplay and showthread pages.

I already feel that vB's placement of the pagination is disjointed but when you have the sidebar turned on, the pagination rests on top of the sidebar and is very "broken" in terms of look, from the content the pagination is referring to.

Would there be a way to correct this and push the pagination to the left of sidebar (assuming the sidebar is to the right) so it doesn't look so odd?

Even more odd is that I have 4.0.2 and the 112 version works fine for me. 113 breaks it on all pages except the homepage.
did you set "allow overwrite" to "yes"?
Do you have a screenshot?

Is just the same for me too!

I just try it on a fresh local install with vB4.0.2 and there only 113 works fine. This is no more state. Perhaps someone has an explanation?

I Don't get it. Are you saying it is working with 1.1.3?

I can't reproduce any style problem

Are all of you guys having any problem?

I play around now for a while and it seems that it has something to do with the vB-Style/Language-Option CSS-Stylesheets store as files.
In my testforum this option is set to Yes and there only version 112 works fine. When i change the option to No the style is broken (sidebar at the buttom).
If the option is set to No than version 113 works - tested on a local fresh-installation of vB4.0.2.

You need to read the OP...

What is this:
By default VB4 sidebar will be shown only on forum home page. This mod Will display the Sidebar everywhere in the forum. This mod assumes that you already set your sidebar block from "forum blocks manager".

You need to turn on the sidebar in your admincp and then make a block.

how to i go to its option and do all this setting.

* The sidebar will be displayed everywhere in the forum.
* With more than 20 setting you can enable and disable sidebar very easily on any any page.
* You can hide sidebar in the excluded forums mod options.
* You can show sidebar for all or show it for non members.
* Now you don't have to enable sidebar from option. Enabling this mod will enable sidebar everywhere. But you need to set sidebar blocks from "forum blocks manager".
* All previous bugs have been fixed.
* The ability to exclude certain usergroups.
* The ability to turn sidebar off for certain forum styles.
* The ability to place the side bar on custom pages.
* The ability to control displaying sidebar when forum is closed.

Hi,

this looks great and I`ll certainly use it when I switch to vB4. You have already included many config-options. I think it would be useful if you could add a feature that allows the users which blocks to display in their usercp. Every user has different interests and this way they could customize the side-bar to fit their needs.

How To Add Blocks To Sidebar:
From your admincp click on "Forums & Moderators" then click "Forum Blocks Manager". Hit "Add Block" you will see a dropdown list of block types. Select the type of block you want and hit continue. Now set your block and save. You are done and this new block should be shown on your sidebar.

The sidebar at homepage should be visible without installing the mod, this is default vbulletin sidebar. Please uninstall the mod then see if the sidebar is showing ok on your homepage. If it is not showing as it should this means something wrong with your forum.

After uninstalling the mod make sure that the sidebar is enabled from
admincp->options->Forum Sidebar and Block Options.

Excellent Mod. Nominated and installed.

One question though, sometimes the sidebar shows up at the proper place (top right of forum) and on some pages it is hidden way at the bottom. Do you know how to fix it? For example on my ForumHome it shows at the very bottom right (I set it to right side), however on my ForumDisplay it is perfect at the top right.

Not sure why it would be in different places. Any ideas? Thank you again for this great mod.

Love the hack - many thanks! :up:

I'm another one with the extra wide quick reply box - see attached.

I've had a lot of members report it - but it appears to only happen with IE8 - FF is fine.

Until I can sort it out I've had to remove a couple of my blocks because quite a few users complained that if their post took up a full line using QR, they lost sight of what they were typing behind the sidebar block.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no luck - did you manage to figure out what's causing it?

I'd also like to add my voice for the option to using different block for different pages. My forum home is pretty long due to the number of forums I have, so when I have my widgets and ad blocks taking up the full height it looks OK. But then when we move to shorter pages it looks pretty bad having the sidebar create all the extra white space above the footer.

To be able to turn off some blocks on specific pages would make this just about the best hack at VB.org for me.

Mike :)

Hello Mike

We have discused this bug before. It is not related to this mod it is a bug in vbulletin.
It is only happening to members not admins in ie8. Did you try to uninstall the mod and check with your members if the bug persist.

Also please report it to vbulletin bugs if it is due to vbulletin

I understand - however the problem isn't there with the hack uninstalled or disabled and it does affects me (admin : IE8).

I'm more than happy to report the bug over at VB - but because VB.com don't want to know about problems if we have modifications installed - if a VB bug affects a modification but isn't visible without the mod (like my installation), that's a bit like a "chicken & egg" problem - how can I demonstrate there's a bug if it's really only visible when a modification is installed?

Still I'll give it a go - do you have any details about, or a link to the bug please? - they still have so many over there. :rolleyes:

As I remember this bug was visible to me if I login as a member not admin with disabling the mod. Maybe i've done something wrong when i test it but it was visible only when i login as user.

Nevertheless you could try my other mod (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=235671) where it will replace the quick reply with the full advanced reply. Also there is similar mod's like replace quickreply you can try them if you didn't liked mine.

When I have sometime I'll have a nother look at the mod to see if anything can be done.

Last thing did you tried it on ie9?

When I have sometime I'll have a nother look at the mod to see if anything can be done.

I've fixed the problem - at least for my forum.

It was a CSS issue - the current editor.css had the following:

.editor_textbox.quickreply textarea {
height:100px;
}

.editor_textbox.quickreply iframe {
height:106px;
}

I changed that to:

.editor_textbox textarea {
height:100px;
}
.quickreply textarea {
height:100px;
width: 80%;
}

.editor_textbox.quickreply iframe {
height:106px;
}

and now my quick edit box no longer disappears behind the sidebar.

Good product!

Quick ideas to make it better:

- disable collapsing sidebar (if you want to place ads on it you don't want users to hide it, did it manually)
- ability to place it everywhere except on thread display --> already exists, my fault
- ability to expand posts when viewing a thread after sidebar ents, ie, to remove the white gap after all blocks end

yeah. seems like a lot of improvements.

Again, would really like the ability to have dual sidebars.

also, ability to prevent sidebar from being collapsed (vertically and horizantally).

For vertical collapsing of blocks, I'd like to be able to create a block and then select whether it can or can not be collapsed (so some menu's or other blocks users can close, but ad blocks, or mandatory blocks they can not).

where do we modify the block options (for usergroups and such?)

texasteamplayer
04-04-2010, 04:42 PM
yeah....it would be good to have user group specific blocks, like ads. So, if you have a site subscription, that removes all ads, it doesn't remove all the side blocks we need.

Again, I'm more than willing to pay you for this. pm me, and we can talk about what we need specifically, and what you can add to your mod. You can still host it here, and everyone can have it, but we'll pay you for your trouble in making the mod what we need it to be.

texasteamplayer
04-04-2010, 04:49 PM
found the mod options. So, yeah..... I'd like it to be per block, so each block has it's own user permissions (or perhaps groups that are allowed to see it, by group number...pretty easy since a lot of forum functions use this).

And then, sidebar on both sides (meaning you'll have to specify when you create a block which side it will be on (left, right).

And then, no more collapsing the side bars horizantally (so people can't turn off the ads/menus/whatever). That can be a global option, like most of your mod options now.

I am not sure if it is a coincidence, but it started doing so as soon as I upgraded to 4.0.3 and it even happens in FireFox.

And I'm tapdancing to please both. :rolleyes:They can certainly hit the 'collapse' button. But the problem is the sidebar still loads, so on slower connections collapsing actually takes more time than not, so really it only helps to save screen space.

I'm beginning to wonder why anyone would actually 'need' it everywhere. There's nothing too particularly useful in it. Why do your users say they like it everywhere? Or are they really just saying they like it 'anywhere'?

What's really got me amazed is how many admins are removing the collapse button, actually forcing the sidebar on people.

AprilReign
04-20-2010, 01:18 PM
The ones that want it everywhere are using it for the Today's Active Topics area, we used to have a mod on a different board that showed the last post excerpt, forum it was in, poster and clicking lead to the last page in thread. I haven't been able to figure how to mimic that with vbulletin

I suggest to keep it as it is and users may collapse it anytime it wont show up for that specific user; loading it is another story. Pleasing everybody will not happen and you -as an admin- must have the last word. You could also control on which pages or on which forums it will be shown that may help you a bit.

happy admining:)

Can I hide the "collapse" arrow and have the sidebar always open? Unfortunately some users seem to overlook the arrow and once the sidebar is collapsed, it remains in this state forever. Even if a user logs out and in again. In this cases we get mails asking where the content vanished that was in the sidebar ...

Any other suggestion?
NOT remembering the open/close state across sessions would be helpful, always open on the start page would be helpful, deactivating the open/close function would be helpful, even if the arrow remains visible. Best for us would be to remove the arrow and let the sidebar permanently open.

I don't recommend this way.

I get the point of the developer but in this case the will of users and designers is definitely to see the sidebar always on all pages. Nobody in the forum actually wants or needs to close the sidebar. But users do it because they can do it, afterwards they forget the meaning of the arrow button and don't find the content they are looking for. They may interpret the button as some graphical ornament or whatever.

---

The suggestion made by chiptz does almost work but unfortunately has a side effect:
Removing the link of the open/close button in 'sidebarext_temp' does not remove it from the start page, where it remains operable. And if you close the sidebar on the start page, it isn't displayed on the subpages. There is just an empty space where the sidebar should be.

Is there something in the FORUMHOME template I could modify to force an open sidebar? Maybe I can set the variable $vboptions['sidebarposition'] permanently to 1 somehow, or is this a matter of the mod itself?

If I just manage to remove the arrow button, I may run into an unsolvable problem, because users whose sidebar is currently collapsed won't have the chance to get it open again. So one of the following methods would be best at the moment:

1) Keeping the sidebar always open, with or without the arrow button. Important is, that the sidebar stays open.

or

2) Forgetting the users sidebar status between sessions. If they really "lose" their sidebar, it should be here again after a new login.

Any hints?

My last option would be to replace the default 'ornamental' arrow button by a text button that tells the user what to do.

Sure, to have the sidebar always on on forum home page find in FORUMHOME and remove:

<a id="sidebar_button_link" href="#">
<vb:if condition="$show['sidebarposition'] == 'left'">
<img id="sidebar_button" src="{vb:stylevar imgdir_misc}/tab-collapsed-left.png" alt="" />
<vb:else />
<img id="sidebar_button" src="{vb:stylevar imgdir_misc}/tab-collapsed.png" alt="" />
</vb:if>
</a>

BTW, one of the good reasons to remove the possibility to collapse the sidebar is if you have advertisments on the collapsible bar. You wouldn'd want to say to your advertisers that you have 1.000.000 views for his ad when in fact half of them is on a collapsed sidebar.

I do think the content of bar is loaded even if it is collapsed. You might just want to be able to put there something that you don't want users to be able to hide it. Or you can just design your site to on specific pages the layout of the page is already considered with a sidebar.

In common with another member I also have ads in my sidebar so I'd like to prevent guests and my non-premium members from collapsing the relevant boxes so there is a need for the facility to hide the collapse buttons.

Many thanks for the mod Allmanai. Could I ask a quick question? I hide other ads from my premium users by wrapping the google script in the following:

<vb:if condition="!is_member_of($bbuserinfo, 29)">
....ad script

<vb:if condition="$adsshown[] = 9"></vb:if></vb:if>

There will no doubt be a simple answer to this question but would you happen to know why the sidebar ads still show despite this code?

Thanks
