Creating Your Own vB4 Mods

I'm looking into writing my own vB mod - a built in ladder system for gaming clans.

Where's the best place to start?

Usually the best thing to do is to download another mod that is sorta similar and see how they went about it. There is some info about products/plugins in the manual, but it isn't as practical as seeing an actual released mod.
