Hi, dunno if this has been mentioned but this conflicts with facebook bridge

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=232457

Get error trying to run css
You installed 3.1 of that mod, and now get errors when you go to Compress CSS under the vB Supercharged menu?

I don't get the error when I try to do that, I get the error when I go to install the mod, and it happens before the CSS compression takes place.

Gonna wait until 4.0.1 before I get started on 1.1

Anyone have a solution for this?

The ./clientscript/vbsc.js cache has a modification time of before clientscript/vbulletin-core.js. Your cache is almost certainly out of date. Please run Compress Javascript under vB4: SuperCharged in your Admin CP.

To prevent issues, your forum is currently running without optimised Javascript as a fallback.

As a last resort if you cannot get this message to disappear, disable the Common Javascript Cache.

I tried to compress the .js but it didn't work. I had to disable the Common Javascript Cache.

Thanks in advance,

SpongBob

Must be a weird time issue :/

Re-enable the common js cache, run compress js and then try editing and saving vbulletin-core.js (without changing anything), then do the same to vbsc.js (in that order).

i upgraded my localhost forum to 4.0.1 and re-activated addons

Warning: file_get_contents(./clientscript/) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in [path]\admincp\vbsc.php on line 75

Update : After open "Enable Google Closure Compiler" , getting "An error occurred when saving ./clientscript/vbsc.js and/or ./clientscript/vbsc.js.gz. Ensure these files exist and that PHP has permission to write to them (chmod)."

i'm getting that issue, any solution - thank you :)

Yup I've got plenty of issues to fix in 1.1 :p

And IB have gone and made the common css cache obsolete with their new "-rollup" thing D:

I did exactly as you suggested but I still get the same error:

Just done the updates and now my site is down:(

Actually, I'd suggest that this mod is binned as its no longer supported, im struggling to get my site back up, not very ++++ing happy at all!!

This screwed up my stlyle, i'm now having to go over an earlier backup of my current style and reconfigure it to how it looked prior to updating this mod..

Crashed my site when updated to 4.01, I had nothing but blank pages with links down the left side, i've just finished redoing an earlier style as it totally stuffed the style up..
shame as it's a very good hack

Guess I worded that "discontinued support for 4.0.0" slightly wrong :P

I mean it no longer works on 4.0.0, only 4.0.1. :)

Also for that to happen you'd have to have not run compress CSS or have yet another conflicting mod. Absolutely nothing vB4:SC does is permanent, and it doesn't touch your stored styles or templates.

1.1: one unused file detected.

It no longer packs the CSS into a single file since vBulletin does a similar thing anyway now in 4.0.1. And the latter system has much less chance of conflicts and runs at pretty much the same real world speed.

The style that was default when i updated to the latest version of VBsc is ruined, If i select it now it goes back to a white page with links down the side:confused: It was fine prior to the upgrade, This was the only upgrade that was done after vb4.0.1 so what else could it be? i've backed up the style i had to redo today so i'll try it again later on..

Well, I've reinstalled it using the backed up style as default, and its ok, except now, when this is enabled i get my url written 3 times above the header? but as soon as i turn all vbsc options to off its back to normal..
The affected site is our new site http://experienced-gamers.com, vbsc is off now, but i'll turn it back on..

Greetings I have a problem updating,

I got all the files gave 666 permissions to files and vbsc.js javascript vbsc.js.gz compress well, but the css gives me this error:

Warning: scandir([path]/clientscript/vbulletin_css/style00015l) [function.scandir]: failed to open dir: No such file or directory in [path]/admincp/vbsc.php on line 237

Warning: scandir() [function.scandir]: (errno 2): No such file or directory in [path]/admincp/vbsc.php on line 237

With the previous version that will work well?

Great work, thanks!

I do have ONE problem. When I login I get the error that the vbulletin.css was not found and that my setup is not saving to a file. HOWEVER it is and I noticed the directory for the default theme I'm using is wrong, probably related to this bug fix:

Fixed style00000 bug on redirect pages - now defaults to style id 1.

Instead of the folder being: /style00001l/

It is showing in the error text: /style00000l/

As if the 1 is never added into the 5 zero pad.

Disable the css feature and it defaults to normal with no errors.

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [path]/admincp/vbsc.php on line 238

M style in the Vbuletin_css is style00006 not style00006l.
I tried creating style00006l folder but it still did not work

$dir = sprintf("style%05d%s", $sid, strcasecmp($vbulletin->datastore->registry->stylevars['textdirection']['string'], 'ltr') == 0 ? 'l' : 'r');

I'm also getting the same error at the top of my pages. When I rebuild my CSS files it says to make sure my CSS is set to be stored as files and that the files are writable (CHMOD 777).

I've double checked. Everything's set up right. The CSS compressor refuses to run. It was working fine back in 0.92. And, yeah, I remembered to upload the files in the vbsc.zip. ;)

Hi, I upgraded to 4.0.1 this morning and then proceeded to try and upgrade this excellent mod, but got this error:

vB4 Default Style ... (Templates) (StyleVars) (Replacement Variables) (CSS) (Controls)
Fatal error: Call to undefined method stdClass::called() in /home/swiftor/public_html/includes/class_core.php on line 3829

I made sure I uploaded the latest files from the vbsc.zip to the proper directories. I also get the above error when trying to uninstall the mod for a fresh install.

UPDATE: I noticed that after an uninstall, its gone from the list of installed mods (even though its still listed in the left nav bar, I guess because of the failed install), and then uploaded the product file without error, but now the top of all my pages have the url listed twice.

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

I can confirm this error as well. It seems the mod is checking the wrong directory for the CSS file.

EDIT: Upon further investigation, it seems to be an issue with this bit of the product code (lines 345 - 357):

The file /usr/home/forum/html/clientscript/vbsc.js is empty. Ensure you have the file chmodded as per the installation instructions and run the Compress Javascript under vB4: SuperCharged in your Admin CP.

It looks to be inserting it once for each lot of .css .. I tried to fix it but got nowhere. :P

The others don't seem to have any problems. :)

Ditto. Fresh upgrade to 4.0.1, then the latest build of VB:SC.

We had it once, ages ago, it was squashed, now it's back with friends.

Ya, I am having the same problem. It's a conflict with Vbseo. Disable Css optimizer will fix the problem but I don't want to sacrifice the speed lol

The file /vbulletin.css is missing. This would indicate that your forum is not set to save on the CSS on the file system. If you are certain it is, try running Compress CSS again.

I have checked, it is set to save on the file system, and I have run both compress processes multiple times.

EDIT: Don't have a clue why it's happening, so just disable closure compiler for now.

Also there are a couple of bugs when saving the CSS files (or pretty much any template), but I'm pretty sure those are caused by vB itself.

I don't have vBSEO but it kept mine from working too. I use the Rotating Banner System Mod thru the default vB ad management, those quit working until I disabled the html optimizer.

The most recent thing I found was the Mini Youtube Player in Profile Mod would not work without changing a setting in admin cp, store css as files had to be set to NO, and the Supercharged mod had to be completely disabled.

I feel I'd rather have improved website performance over the Mini Youtube Player, so I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too right? It's a trade off I guess.

I really like the idea's of these mods, I just wish that they'd actually improve things instead of possibly cause more issues.

If you're already having page load time issues, some of this addon is going to cause even more problems for you.

You should be loading YUI from a remote source, it means that your users only have to have one set of YUI files cache. If they visit any other VB sites that also load remotely they dont have to request the files. It also increases thier browsing speed of the site because their browser can send requests for these files while waiting for your other site files(by default in browsers only do 2 requests per site at a time). Moving it back onto your site mimimized or not isn't helping. FWIW we already compress the files by default for vBulletin unless you download the package sans compressed javascript. -2

Serving Compressed CSS is actually a good idea, +1

Compressing templates in REALTIME (as in every single page load) is a HORRIBLE idea. This is adding COUNTLESS cpu cycles and making php do even more work then it was already doing to make your pages load. FWIW fully gziped/mod_deflated html with whitepsace removal is 3-5% improvement on average. If you really need to squeeze that much preformance, you should do it ONCE and only ONCE ever. When you save the template you can compress its contents. You can also extend the post cacheing system to compress its html whitespace there as well. -5

The attachment optmizer is probably not bad, but I didn't look at the code here. +0

So overall this addon does more to harm your site than help it, at least as it stands now. Just something to think about :)

Darkimmortal
02-28-2010, 02:45 PM
Moving Javascript to before </body> +2 (the difference from simply doing that is huge - you don't get those little freezes during page loads)

Google Closure Compiler +1

Compressed HTML I agree that's probably not the best thing for the server CPU :P
I'll make that disabled by default and include a warning in the next version.

Also I could make the YUI files being included in the Javascript cache an optional thing. But still surely almost all the Javascript needed on the majority of pages being compressed into a single file under 70 KB (with GZip) that can be easily cached deserves a +1? :P
Otherwise you end up with a load of separate Javascript files and like you said, it's usually 2 requests at a time (not that it makes much difference without loading them async).

Zachery
02-28-2010, 04:21 PM
If you want to compress the html, do it, just do it else where like the template save in the admincp, and change how the pst cache works to compress html there.

The YUI files being on a CND (google/yahoo) are better. Its more likely for your browsers to have the YUI files cached if they were hosted on a central website. Why use your own bandwith and cpu cycles to serve the YUI when you don't need to?

YSlow! 2 said that the average vBulletin page gets a C, which isn't bad.

I first got a msg saying I should try Recomprss CSS.

Then I am getting the following when I try to Compress CSS, any suggestions (please also see attached)?

I am certain I am saving CSS as files. Both vbulletin_css and style00004 directories are 777.

Thanks
WC

BUG:

Currently in the plugin xml you have hardcoded the path to the AdminCP Folder.
I strongly suggest you use the info from the vbulletin config file for the admincp folder cause otherwise the mod will conflict with other mods that are beeing installed later due to the wrong link to vbsc.php

Took me 1 hour to find the conflict after Installing vB Optimise Pro which broke my forum.

Just a note

And thanks for this mod by the way ;)

Sorry if this question is dumb. :(

Shouldn't there be a vbsc.css in the view source of forum web pages. I did a view source of forume home and only see vbsc.js no vbsc.css

As for css I see this: main-rollup.css shouldn't that be auto replace with vbsc.css?

Oddly when I have the Google Closure Compiler enabled it tells me the file permissions aren't writable for vbsc.js and vbsc.js.gz even tho they are set to be writable.

Presumably it's receiving a blank reply from the API then for whatever reason :/

You don't gain that much really from basic mode closure compiler, so you won't lose much with it off.

The CSS files vBulletin creates are simply minified in-place and a pre-compressed .gz file created for each.

Also for some reason the thread title refuses to change - it still says 1.3 :S

Is this a one time process for each when an admin clicks "compress CSS" in the admincp? or is there something that also has to be done dynamically during each page load?

The actual minifying is a one-time process which can be run manually via 'Compress CSS' but will also run when you save a template or import a product. During page load a few regexes redirect references to css.php directly to the saved files, but these are pretty light.

Any instructions on how to get Attachment Optimiser operating on IIS7?

Thanks

It should 'just work' in most browsers, but for maximum compatibility you should look up how to add custom headers and search for .png anywhere in the URL (specifically the query string) and set the content-type to image/png, and the same for gif and jpg. I've never used IIS7 so I can't really say specifically how to do that.

Either enable the CURL extension or disable Google Closure Compiler in the vB4:SC settings. You won't be much worse off with the latter.

Yes, I have done the compress javascript multiple times after upgrading. I have all of the settings set to "yes" except "Enable Attachment Optimiser," and the Facebook connect image does not even show up. As soon as I set "Enable Javascript Optimiser" to "No," it works perfectly.

Edit: It appears to be a conflict with this plugin and vBSEO. If I have just vBSEO enabled, FB connect works fine. If I have just this plugin enabled, FB connect works fine, but if I have them both enabled, it breaks it. Any suggestions? :D

Hi Darkimmortal,

I came across a bug and wanted to get your thoughts. With vbsc Javascript compression enabled, if I upload 2 images to the asset manager and try to insert them inline at the same time, I get a JS error and only 1 of the two images are inserted. With the javascript compression off, the error does not display and both images insert inline. This occurs on the forum and the CMS. Thoughts?

Not workig with Google Admanager.

The banners are served in <body> by a <script ...></script> statement. Before that statement, another script should be executed, but this mod puts this other script in the footer.

GA_googleAddSlot("ca-pub-12346579841659846", "Superbanner_1123456789");

i have upgraded to 4.0.3 and VIEWING THE FORUM AS A GUEST i cant see the forum tabs (using tabbed forum home mod (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=233135&page=22&highlight=Tabbed+Forum+Home))...i will explain:

if i edit FORUMHOME TEMPLATE EDIT 1 forumhome changes, i cant see my header logo (the header is smaller like there is no logo specified, and the login/pass boxes are moved to the left instead of be on the right

then, if i made FORUMHOME TEMPLATE EDIT 2 changes, i cant see the forums (no tabs..no forums...nothing). its like there aren?t any forums.

if i disable Javascript Optimiser options from supercharged 1.3 mod i can see all ok...tabs and everything

I dont know why this issue it is only VIEWING THE FORUM AS A GUEST. If im logged with my user...everything works fine...

i hope to enable Javascript Optimiser option and keep using this fantastic mod!

I use ServInt for my servers, and they are renouned as having highly optimised, proficient servers... I have now tried this mod over the course of VB4 development, and every single time it has slowed the delivery and increased the actual pages size. I just thought I would give it another shot on 4.0.3, same thing. It just took the browsers compressed page from just over 500kb to over 800kb by implementing this mod.

I am glad it helps others, but I would honestly say for anyone who is on highly optimised servers with a lot of custom server code, that this may slow your end result than speed it up.

Please don't get me wrong, I am well aware that DarkImmortal is one hell of a coder, and this is certainly no slant against them, but more an awareness that this may not suit someone on highly optimised servers that already deliver at the ultimate level possible to the user.

If download size matters so much, I suppose I should get round to making the Javascript optimiser work without the common script cache. Then it would be marginally lower on top of most of the other benefits.

FractalizeR

In my case addon adds 100Kb more to download (VBulletin scripts are pretty much compressed already). And I noticed, that css files are not replaced by their compressed variants on some reason (option on this is enabled).

Here are my YSlow results with and w/o addon:

Darkimmortal
04-27-2010, 02:26 PM
The total download size is not what this mod is designed to fix/improve - it's more focused on perceptible load speed on a primed cache. Is that not what matters on a forum?

FractalizeR
04-28-2010, 07:41 AM
May be it is, but I don't see any reason why optimization mod should add anything to things, I already have.
Anyway, it works good without glitches. And it really improves website ratio for Google PageSpeed and Yahoo Yslow. In my case it didn't replace css files with a compressed version however...

why is attachment optimization not recommended for apache?

searched this mod thread and couldnt find out so im sorry if this has been addressed.

Apache, similar threaded webservers and PHP-FPM on FastCGI can spawn new PHP processes to meet demand. Simple FastCGI setups based on spawn-fcgi or something similar can't, and so the limited simultaneous PHP requests available are tied up while people download attachment images.

You might benefit from slightly lower load with it, but there isn't going to be a significant difference really. And by having to store attachments from a publicly accessible location, forum access restrictions no longer apply for anyone determined to download a particular attachment.

Just curious if you have an ETA on releasing a new version that addresses the bug fixes relating to FB Connect, vBSEO, PM pop-up and others previously mentioned?

Just curious but my CMS Section Widget got all funky even though it says here that it was corrected.

0.7:

* Changes made to vbsc.php - don't forget vbsc.zip when updating.
* Fixed CMS sections widget not working with JS Optimiser enabled. The fix for this will probably also fix other YUI-related issues.
* Fixed visitor messages being too wide with CSS Optimiser enabled.

I turned off JS Optimiser and it is back to normal.

Any chance I can get the widget to look right with the JS Optimizer enabled?

When I active the option "Enable Common Javascript Cache", I see on above the page of my forum this text:

The file /home/xxxxxx/public_html/forum/clientscript/vbsc.js is empty. Ensure you have the file chmodded as per the installation instructions and run the Compress Javascript under vB4: SuperCharged in your Admin CP. Report any errors you encounter when running Compress Javascript.

To prevent issues, your forum is currently running without optimised Javascript as a fallback.

Your server is supposed to do that :)

I am a strong supporter of Nginx, hence why vBSC produces pre-gzipped .gz files that Nginx (and probably other servers) can serve directly.

Or do they basically do the same thing and i should choose one or the other, but not install both?

It does completely different stuff - you should run both :)

Is this really necessary? Store CSS Stylesheets as Files
I run another program that does not work properly when I store CSS as Files.

For the CSS Optimiser to function, yes. If you want to run vBSC with CSS stored in the database, you will need to disable the following plugins after installing it:

- CSS Auto-Compress
- CSS Auto-Compress Init
- CSS Optimiser

Just installed your product and it does seem to have made a difference to the forum itself.

However, 2 problems.

vMoods no longer works, is there any work around for this?

the CMS actually seems to load slower!! is that just me?

In Opera browser the CSS definitely loads way slow. However, who the hell uses opera but me and it works great in all other browsers.

vB4 SuperCharge 1.5 and 1.5.1's HTML Optimiser makes widget config dialog (Genera Search, Recent Articles, Recent Threads,...) crash.

Please check it.
Thank you.

Did you make sure these two steps were done? (prolly only the first is all you need to check, but might as well check both while you're there :p )
1. Ensure you have CSS stored on the filesystem and not your database. To check this, go to Settings > Options > Style & Language Settings > Store CSS Stylesheets as Files? and ensure it is set to "Yes".
2. Disable Remote YUI if you have it enabled. To check this, go to Settings > Options > Server Settings and Optimization Options > Use Remote YUI and ensure it is set to "None".

Had to disable this product as it causes to much problems with other add-ons.

I've reported vMoods not working and now I've discovered the vb4 version of MGC Chatbox EVO doesn't work under this product either :(

I own a branding free license for MGC Chatbox so that's why I have it for vB4 but my understanding is the FREE version will be available as of tomorrow so it's just a heads up to anyone thinking of trying it.

Any chance of a fix for both these problems?!

Hi Darkmotion, can you please make this great hack work on 3.6.x and 3.8.x versions.

I was away from vBulletin scene for several months, so I am just picking up on things developed around. This is an incredible hack and it seems to serve well for heavy forums which need every optimization possible, because some forums are over loaded with too many javascript calls (Adsense, Analytics, several vB javascript etc..)

Thanks for your time.

BUG:

when HTML Optimizer is enabled it removes all google adsense section targeting.

This is an absolute no go!

Please exclude section targeting comments from being removed or the nice html optimizer is not usable for adsense publishers.

ps: I use vBSEO to integrate the section targeting tags

Only if you don't read the instructions about not using HTML Optimizer if you have vBSEO's c2c option active - http://www.nzboards.com/the-lounge/rwc-tickets-are-on-sale-90544/ .. my adsense weight tags are still there.

(So, turn off HTML optimizer or vBSEO's version, and see if the issue remains.)

It should theoretically work on 3.6+, although you would have to go through /includes/vbsc_global.php and put in the correct CSS/JS filenames for it to have much of an effect.

StarBuGPerhaps switch to the vBSEO cleanup HTML option? It seems to do a slightly more thorough job, though there's not much in it really.

Heya Dark,
Came across an issue tonight with another mod.
Firebug alerted me an error when viewing a file in DownloadsII.
The error states that qr_init is not defined.
Turning off the Javascript optimizer makes the error go away.
Here's the code he's using thats in question:
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
// initialize quick reply
qr_init();
//-->

I ended up uninstalling this.

It just takes up too many system resources on my dedicated windows box. During peak times with a good amount of members online, my CPU usage is pegged at 100% and it overloads the server. Pages can take up to 10 seconds to load....

And that is only with the CSS and Javascript optimization options.

I just had this problem after moving my server to a new host.

In your AdminCP, ensure File caching is turned on under Style & Language settings, and ensure that the /clientscript/vbulletin_css folder and everything under it is chmod'd to 777.

Great mod! I am still learning a bit of how much it is doing.

One question I have is what setting am I supposed to have that will switch the vB page to downloading the vbsc.gz file instead of the vbsc.js file? There is almost a 200k file size difference between the two and it keeps loading the larger uncompressed file. I have common javascript cache and Google Closure Compiler both set to Yes. Am I doing something wrong or misunderstanding what should be happening??

No, the .gz file is for servers that support it (nginx) to serve automatically in place of the .js rather than gzipping the .js file on every request.

If your server is serving the .js without gzipping it then you have it configured wrong ;)

Ah! Thanks!

Would it be worth trying to force my non-nginx web server to pass along the gz file? Where can I manually edit this?

It used to do that, but after vB added the '-rollup' css files, the crazy amount of incompatibilities outweighed the decreased benefits. Even on an unmodified forum, including all the CSS at once introduces issues on some pages.

Plus with how inefficient the vBulletin CSS is, it's best to keep it at a minimum on each page.

I am not sure.. But, can't they be added with <vb:if condition>? Like a extra plugin at {vb:raw template_hook.headinclude_css}

That'll probably require manual removal of the existing calls.

And, what about the ability of adding custom js files?
Like, I have a few modification installed that requires js files to be loaded. A filed to add them manually would be much appreciated.

Darkimmortal
06-19-2010, 03:39 PM
You can add them to includes/vbsc_global.php (the $GLOBALS['js_files'] array) - just remember to merge the changes when you go to update vBSC ;)

Do I need to change anything in templates so that the js files don't go double called?

BTW, a suggestion.. Can you add a tutorial on how we can install "nginx with ngx_http_gzip_static_module" on dedicated apache servers?

You would need to remove/comment out the existing script tags.

That's way beyond the scope of this mod. You may want to check these links out:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?253741-nginx-the-raise-of-a-new-giant
http://wiki.nginx.org

If you are going to go with nginx, I recommend ditching Apache completely and running PHP through PHP-FPM.
