Great mod - easy to do, MUCH better than the template mod crap. As MANY people have said, three things:

1) This should be part of the default install - like any other CMS/Forum script (not your problem)

2) The selected tab really needs to be the one highlighted

3) Need a way to change the sub-navbar links along with the new tab, like the default links

Changing order of the new links and the default links is a fine idea, but I can live without it.

This is simple and easy to use. I love it!

But, how can i use with navbar links or dropdowns?

I am guessing i can do this on the page template, so that certain sub-categories appear on navbar as links. But, lots of extra work.

OMG, your right. The tab doesnt have hover or highlight options. This totally doesnt work for me then as it will confuse my visitors as to where they are.

is there a possibility to have this tabs with a drop down function ?! this would be great if Elmer can integrate this to the hack - then this hack is the best

Elmer said he will try to add the highlighted tab at some point, but there is no ETA:
paulbhoy, there is no way to do that in the current versi?n. I'll be working in a minor update to include some suggestions, but I won't be including every suggestion. I'm just going to update the current version, I will include a variable, that if active you will be able to use it in your custom page and use it in some sort of conditional to highlight your tab.

For all the other users that keep asking why this addon doesn't change the tab color to white when clicked, this addon doesn't support it and provably wont, however I will try to make something in the future.
There is a paid addon out there that do everything you people want, however I know that would be better if this features were free, so I will try to implement them at some point.

I have some links that will open up in the same tab and some that won't. I believe I am following the directions correctly. Please look at my code and tell me why the middle one (Members) is not opening up in the same tab.

Installed, but I got one problem I would like for example that the tabs link to the news section so I made this: News |http://website.com/content.php?5-News=>self;1 2 3 4 5 6 7

But the are 2 problems:
1 - After clicking to the news tab the HOME tab remains highlighted and the NEWS tab.
2 - When I clicked on the news tab I can't see below (just below the tab bar) the inner sections as for the HOME tab for example

any clue?

Fantastic Mod. Many thanks.

A really nice feature would be able to remove the standard buttons ie {Forum} {What's New} so that you can have a complete custom menu.

Alternatively, if this wasn't possible it would be nice to be able to put some buttons to the left and some to the right. For example I like to put the {home} button on the far left hand side and the {contact us} button I like to put on the far right.

The developer has stated it doesn't appear tab highlighting will be implemented here, and support appears to have been all but abandoned.

I have since installed this excellent mod (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=233629) which does all of the things (sub menus, highlighting etc.) I was looking for.

IN IE8, THIS PRODUCT CAUSES USER TO BE LOGGED OUT.

When using IE8, whenever I click on one of the added tabs, it will lose it's cookie, and log out the user.

It only happens when clicking on these additional tabs created by this mod.

Please look in to a fix, as this is a great product otherwise.
Thank you for reporting that problem, I think it?s because all tabs doesn't pass the session into the url.. I'll make an update for this, but this mod won't have more features as I'm working In a more advanced product that will include queries.

Hi

My site is www.247gamers.net and I have installed this addon as I wanted a home button. But when you click on the home tab it does not show its selected..

For example if you hover over the forum tab and select it, the tab is lighter with dark text to show its the one selected, this does not happen when clicking home. Maybe something to do with CSS? Is there a way around this? Thanks

Yo can't. The problem is that that file has a value in THIS_SCRIPT different then the file name content.php. The value for that file is vbcms and that doesn't match the filename.

If you have information for donations in that article, I recommend you do a custom page so you cant define THIS_SCRIPT with your own value. There are a few guides in the vb4 forums here in vb.org to make custom pages.

Tab selected is to make your tab highlighted. You just need to add the file name you are linking to, this name also need to be in the THIS_SCRIPT constant value so your page get highlighted. Read the option description.

Hi Bob,

Mods are 7 and super mods are 5. Leaving that part without numbers for usergroups will make the tab visible to all users, so instead of adding each usergroup ID, just don't add them. Read the option description for a example.

I think I found a bug, or perhaps just a limitation. Behavior is identical in both Firefox 3.5.7 and Internet Explorer 8.

When you narrow the window to the point where there's not enough rooms for the tabs (in my case under 1000 pixels, you get the following issues:

#1 - Any tab that hasn't reached the end of the screen goes "under" the search box.

#2 - Any tab that has reached the end of the screen wraps to the next line and is underneath the existing navigation text.

Examples:

Fullscreen however it looks great. Not really a big deal as it is 2010 and most people have wider than 1024 pixel screens anyway, but some people don't' surf fullscreen.

It would be perfect if you try to implement sublinks for future updates.
I would also like to see some kind of permission thing. For example I want a register/log in tab to show up if you are not logged in. If you are logged in the tab doesn't show up for you anymore.

PS: What are groups and albums by the way? Can someone explain these 2 features? I'm new to vBulletin so I'm still trying to get a hang of all the things.

Yes. Just select "left" under "tab position" in the options page. It will put all of your custom tabs to the right of the "home" tab but to the left of "blog" and "what's new."

After downloading the .zip file, extract all of the files in the folder "vbh add new tabs 1.2."
Then you need to put the files in their particular folders on your server. In the case of this particular hack, it's super-easy, because there's just one file.
So, you get the file "bitfield_vbhtabs" where it belongs on your server. It needs to go into the [your site's root]/includes/xml folder on your server. You can do this with an FTP, but if your site has a plesk, you can just import it that way, probably more quickly.
After getting the file into your server in the right place, go to the Admin CP and go to down to the bottom of the left-hand menu. Select "Plugins & Products," then "product manager" from that drop-down menu.
Once the product manager opens, click on "add/import product." then you'll be taken to a screen where you choose whether to import from your computer or from your server. In this case, you're importing from your computer.
Click on "browse" in the first option and locate the un-zipped file for "vbh add new tabs 1.2." at the root menu of this file is the XML file "product-vbh_newtabs10." Double-click this to select the file. Then click "yes" to "allow overwrite," then click "import."
You'll get a screen confirming the upload, but the file is so small that it may be a mere flash.
You're done! Just double-check this in the ACP fo your permissions, etc.

Hi there I am having some trouble (maybe basic) installing this Mod.

Basically I upload the files to my webserver, but when I go to import the XML File (products-VBH_Newtabs-10 or whatever) I get this error message:

"Please upload the file bitfield_vbhtabs.xml to /includes/xml/ before installing or upgrading!
Por favor subre el archivo bitfield_vbhtabs.xml a /includes/xml/ y luego instalar o actualizar este addon"

So then I go back and I find the bitfield_vbhtabs to upload in the product manager and then I get this error:

"Invalid File Specified"

Anybody know why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated.

You need to FIRST upload the bitfield_vbhtabs.xml via FTP (into the appropriate directory = forum root > includes > xml). THEN you need to upload the product-vbh_newtabs10.xml via the Product Manager.

That should fix your problems.

Ok got it set-up. Some quick questions though. Bear with me I'm a newb!

1.) Are we only allowed to move our Newly Created Tabs either to the left or right of the "Forum, Whats New, Blog" tabs? Say I wanted to add a Profile and Calendar tab. Are my only options pretty much:

A. Profile/Calendar/Forum/Whats New/Blog
B. Forum/Whats New/Blog/ Profile/Calendar

or is there anyway to "mix" the tabs up in the Nav Bar such as

C. Profile/Forum/Calendar/Blog/Whats New

Or are we stuck with either left or right of the default tabs?

2.) I wanted to add a "My Profile" tab to the Navbar. So I used the config: "My Profile|member.php=>self" in the Options panel.

I am able to create the Tab perfectly, however when I click on it I get this message:

"This user has not registered and therefore does not have a profile to view"

I don't get how the user (me or any other) could not be registered as I am logged in to my account. Any ideas why this might be? Did I do something wrong?

Basically I want it so that when users click "My Profile" in the new tab its just like clicking "My Profile" in the default upper right corner of the Vbulletin Page.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I need further testing but the addon caused my forum to delay maybe due to scripts, I don't know. Load time increased massivly, that's why I deinstalled it.

I like the very idea of your addon. It is great and I hope that the load problem can be resolved. Maybe it was caused by other circumstances but as I said, I need to do some additional testing on this one.

Works like a champ!

I only have the basic forum version of 4.0.x not the CMS/Blog version.
I really needed a way to put the HOME button on the tabs to go back to the main home page.
I also disliked the AdminCP button being at the very bottom of the page.

I am not a coder and this mod is easy to do, simple to control, works great and solved my issue.
Now I am also able to have a calendar tab appear just for "private members".
Best of all I added a couple of tabs for the not logged in/Unregistered.

I must admit the self / blank thing threw me a little bit...until I read the directions.

This Add new tabs mod worked out great! Just what I was looking for!

This is REALLY close to being awesome. If there was a way to make it so that I could have custom pages work with the selected tab feature (so I can link to sections in the CMS and not have the Home button highlighted) then this would be PERFECT. Unfortunately that doesnt seem to work yet, so maybe that is being updated in the future.

It seems like this is much harder to do than it should be.

Can you use this mod to create a new tab which takes the user to their "Profile" without losing the forum tab so that the site looks a bit more like Facebook and users don't have to spot the small link at the top of the page? If so how?

This plugin has an unremovable Forum tab but it's better than the alternative since I use that tab.

I'm having a problem though. I can't get the background of that tab to have the same hover effect as the other menu tabs. I've been editing the CSS for over an hour now and that's the only thing I can't fix. I already did a lot - because it was stuck on being marked as the selected tab on every page.

http://www.pokemontopaz.net/forums - see the Forum tab. Which css variable do I need to edit that? I looked at all the a:hover stuff and still couldn't find it.

I am using this for 4.2 but there is just a little glitch if you add tabs for groups ,gallery that tab gets stuck on form. But if your going to navigate away from Vb no-problems

Suggestion for next version:

Ok, heres how to remove the link at the bottom.

Go into Plugin Manager and look for Disable Tabs which is found under "Product: vBH - Add new tabs 1.2", select Edit, in the "Plugin PHP Code" box, scroll down and remove the following lines of code.

I have it highlighting fine for the arcade, but when I try link to an internal page (like an article) then I can't get it to highlight as it has the same THIS_SCRIPT name as the home button.

I just recently ran into a problem, when trying to use this in conjunction with a picture and gallery mod (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=237931) here. The problem is in maintaining the "active" button state, for more than one file name.

In this case, I need the "Album" button to show active while the albumall.php, picall.php, and album.php are active. Since all three page types are under the parent Album category.

Is there a way to do this? Or can your product easily be modified to do this?

Nevermind Elmer. I uninstalled your mod and coded the extra tabs myself, creating plugins as Lynne describes how to do here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=226914). It was really very EASY, and allowed me to use multiple conditions.

I appreciate your mod though, it made it easier to create tabs for single condition circumstances, at least at first.

On a side note: I really wish that programmers wouldn't demand visible copyright "credits" and a link on every single page of your site, simply for contributing relatively minor mods such as a navtab mod. I believe that really should be reserved for more significant contributions. That bothered me about your mod from the beginning. Anyhow, that's just my opinion.

Noob here, but learning. I can walk you through it.

After downloading the .zip file, extract all of the files in the folder "vbh add new tabs 1.2."
Then you need to put the files in their particular folders on your server. In the case of this particular hack, it's super-easy, because there's just one file.
So, you get the file "bitfield_vbhtabs" where it belongs on your server. It needs to go into the [your site's root]/includes/xml folder on your server. You can do this with an FTP, but if your site has a plesk, you can just import it that way, probably more quickly.
After getting the file into your server in the right place, go to the Admin CP and go to down to the bottom of the left-hand menu. Select "Plugins & Products," then "product manager" from that drop-down menu.
Once the product manager opens, click on "add/import product." then you'll be taken to a screen where you choose whether to import from your computer or from your server. In this case, you're importing from your computer.
Click on "browse" in the first option and locate the un-zipped file for "vbh add new tabs 1.2." at the root menu of this file is the XML file "product-vbh_newtabs10." Double-click this to select the file. Then click "yes" to "allow overwrite," then click "import."
You'll get a screen confirming the upload, but the file is so small that it may be a mere flash.
You're done! Just double-check this in the ACP fo your permissions, etc.

Hi Bob,

Mods are 7 and super mods are 5. Leaving that part without numbers for usergroups will make the tab visible to all users, so instead of adding each usergroup ID, just don't add them. Read the option description for a example.

Thanks for this great mod... I did run into one issue.

Unlike any of the other vBulletin forums I have seen, I have added links to forums in the main navbar.

I figured I could just copy the forumdisplay.php file over and over again (1-forumdisplay.php, 2-forumdisplay.php etc...) and change the THIS_SCRIPT assignment inside each page to match your "Tabs Selected" requirements in your mod. So I have several pages set up like this:
File name: 1-forumdisplay.php THIS_SCRIPT = 1-forumdisplay
File name: 2-forumdisplay.php THIS_SCRIPT = 2-forumdisplay
File name: 3-forumdisplay.php THIS_SCRIPT = 3-forumdisplay
etc...

and then in your mod settings:

Link Name|1-forumdisplay.php?1-forumdisplay=>self
Link Name|2-forumdisplay.php?2-forumdisplay=>self
Link Name|3-forumdisplay.php?3-forumdisplay=>self

The highlighting works great, however, the only problem now is that I get duplicate "Posting Permissions" blocks at the bottom. Have you ever seen this and do you possibly know of a quick fix?

Theres no need to use any tab modification for VBA CMPS, there is a builtin navbar tab in its options. See vbadvanced.com

I am trying to add a "Donate" tab to link to the mod "VSa - PayPal Donate". I added the following in the "add new tabs" box:

Donate|http://www.mysite.com/vbulletin/misc.php?do=donate

However, when clicking on the new tab, I get this link:

http://www.mysite.com/vbulletin/misc.php?do

The "=donate" phrase is truncated which causes the wrong script to run. Since others have reported successfully integrating both of these mods, I would appreciate if someone could point out what I am doing wrong.

When i click one of them even the other ist also marked as active.

From what your are saying, this is a "You" problem and not this MOD.

From what I can tell you are calling two different pages but utilizing the same THIS_SCRIPT for each. You need to create the unique .php files, add the associated templates under styles and then add each unique file name to the appropriate THIS_SCRIPT.

Maybe I am making this more difficult than is necessary but it will accomplish what you want.

I apologize in advance for having to ask this question but I cannot figure this out. I have only been using vBulletin for about a week.

I installed the Mod and transfered the xml via ftp. My Products Manager shows the Mod as installed.

I cannot find the area to run the program. I have no option listed under my control panel options and cannot find the program under any other sections. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For some reason some of my tabs are showing to usergroups that shouldn't be able to see them. For example, I have a tab with the following code:

Example Tab|https://www.example.com=>blank; 5 6 7

and people in usergroups 10 (and others) can see the above tab. This shouldn't be happening. I believe that this only started recently...

*this is a great! MOD.

1. When you log out of the forum the links are still displayed.
? - Can this be a feature to disable if you are not logged into the forum.

2. When you click the disable what's new checkbox is in fact does not disable the button when you sit on the forum.php main page.

The one does have a footer link. You are just able to block it is all. That hack is more complicated which will end up being more of a problem if it ever breaks. This hack is simple and elegant.

I went to edit vbh_newtabs
I went to save it and this error came up

I would suggest uninstalling the product and re-installing it to see if that fixes it. Sounds like to made an edit somewhere.

The you must have another plugin messing with it. Try disabling the other plugins and see if that fixes that one.

You shouldn't remove the copyright without the hack author's permission.

I have to agree here. Giving the author credit is part of the deal of using one of thier mods. I would suggest making the hyperlink static. That way the author gets due credit but the link is not active. Either way it wouldn't hurt to make contact with the author and get permission.

If you have this mod installed open that template vbh_newtabs and then save it not changing anything. Not sure how many people have actually tried to edit this template but it cannot be saved without removing the second argument. Also, I'm not sure how another plugin can have any issues with saving a template.

This template has an issue in it, no doubt. If you remove the 2nd and save it, it will save, and you can revert as well. But simply opening and saving does not work. It's a coding issue with the datatype in this template.

Well, I just did as you suggested and the template saved fine just like it was before I saved it. The hack is working fine after saving the template. As I said before, something else is affecting it somewhere.

Impossible. I've just installed this to my newly installed testvb and simply opened and saved it, it will not save.

I had earlier tested this on the live site before I posted here. I've got better things to do than to waste yours and my time.

No, it is not impossible. Why would I make that up? It saved fine for me and I do not get any errors on saving the template. What is impossible is that you did it on a fresh install and it didn't save properly.

Just a clean install of vb and this hack only..

The coding is correct if I was able to save the template fine. You must be having some other issues going on as you guys are the only ones who have reported this. Maybe you guys are trying in on a version less than 4.0.3? IIRC, there were issues with the way templates were being parsed that was supposedly fixed in 4.0.3.

This thread is 16 pages long. (for me) so, the hack itself has been around far longer than 4.0.3

As I mentioned previously, I'm not sure why another user would have edited this template and came across it, so to say no one else has had this problem is pure guess work on your part.

Maybe Elmer can help explain our problem. Or are you Elmer? You seem to be assisting here a bit more than just another coder might in this thread. You're in the top 3 posters of a 16 page thread.

No biggy, as that guy above Hippy mentioned, the hack works. It's opening an saving the template that does not. IMHO< it's not standards compliant somehow.

But hey what do I know, you're the coder, I'm just lowly end user with issues. ;)

Again, you're not reading what your replying to it seems. I never once said you were a bother, I even welcomed you back, twice.

There is no problem that I can see, other than opening then saving the template. As you well know, this message means something is not correct in the template.

This is likely caused by a malformed conditional statement. It is highly recommended that you fix this error before continuing, but you may continue as-is if you wish.

Saving that template, untouched has nothing to do with something else as you've suggested, multiple times now, it has to do with the template itself, and what vbulletin requires to be correct to save it normally.

I do not believe the template is entirely vb4 compatible.

Now, all that said and your comment about backing out of this thread? That's fine, me too.

I don't even use the hack. I came across this thread and in an effort to help, and because I was nosy about possibly using it myself, I installed it today for the first time, to take a peek.

That's all. So, if it works for you great. You and I have no clue how many others it would save for, and how many it will error out for, no ones commenting in that regards other than Hippy and the noisy guy, Infopro.

So for you to say:

And several of your other comments in this regard, just don't make any sense to me. If it saves for you normally, great say so and move on. If you've got an educated guess as to the problem or a fix, say so or move on.

But please don't say its not an issue and write it off. And then go on to repeat things without actually reading the posts you're commenting to, you help no one and only promote responses like this one.

I hope this post doesn't sound like I'm being rude or offensive, that is surely not my intentions here. I don't use the hack myself. I tried to help I verified the problem here on my end and was hoping to help somehow. That's it.

Can't get the "tab selected" to work.

I use photopost classified. THIS_SCRIPT is defined as cpindex in the index.php of the folder classified (wich is not in the forum directory).

i specify cpindex in the "tab selected" area of the script and it doesnt work... any ideas?

Hi - nice app! Everything works fine except I've been unable to link to a https page (for a paypal donate button). I use the same URL elsewhere and it works just fine. The page says "some information is missing'...it appears to leave off the ID number on the end. ??

I sent it to a page where the donate URL does work; its a little more trouble on the users end but it does work.

Oddly enough, until I eliminated the " ,'s" on the end of the lines the external links would not work. Now they are.

Don't use this, once you create a tab, it can't be deleted, it just stays there forever. I deleted it in the settings, I disabled the addon, I even uninstalled it, it's still there...Avoid at all costs

this was to good to pass up..

what tab did you make that you can't get rid of ..?

If you turn the plugin off, all the tabs that you created are gone..
no 2 ways about it ..

if you un-installed it an the tab is still there .....

it was not added with this mod

If I remember right, when I disabled the Blogs and CMS (Home) buttons, disabling plugins did not bring them back. I had to actually bring them back in the hack first. But as far as others tabs, anything the hack adds is gone on un-install.

Can someone please aid me with this? I was using a tab until my update to 4.04. Then, once updated, I tried to delete the tab that had now grown useless. But, even after the app has been disabled (then uninstalled), the cursed tab just won't go. This takes away a lot of value on my board, and I must have it off as soon as possible!

ok, maybe I'm just a noob but I cannot get this to work. I uploaded the xml file in the upload folder (the only file) to includes/xml and i add uploaded product-vbh_newtabs10.xml via product manager.

I am running 4.0.4 L1.

This is my first add-on that I have tried to install so let me know if i am missing something very obvious.

Where would I find the add-on once I installed it?

Sorry to appear thick, but can someone explain in simple language how to get a tab selected.

The tab is working nicely but I can't figure out the THIS_SCRIPT business.

I wanted a tab that would display my section 21, and also to be active when I click it. The link to this section is .../content.php?21.
So, I made a copy of content.php and named it novosti.php. I opened it and modify line with THIS_SCRIPT, replaced "vbcms" with "novosti". I made new tab with this tool and point it to novosti.php?21, and set the THIS_SCRIPT value to "novosti". Everithing is great, only I don't have sublinks, like I have them when I go to article 21 on regular way, but that is a minor issue.
