So I just noticed something. In version 6.5 a .svn folder is uploaded. In all the other installs its not present. What was that folder for?

It's a conflict with another plugin, I (and many others) have had the same problem. page back a page or two on this thread and you'll see a list of things that have been identified as causing this issue.

Once I disabled the mod that was causing the issue, it started working fine.

Or try disabling the hacks you have installed plug-ins, and then review individually each and discard TO CREATE CONFLICTS WITH CHAT CHAT WHEN INSTALLING THE SAME PROBLEM WAS ONLY uninstall the hacks and fix the problem, if you have installed TOP POSTER, VISITORS LAST 24 HOURS ,LAST ALBUM RANDOM PICTURES AND HIDE ALL CONFLICT CREATE THESE AND THE CHAT IS NOT SHOWN, IT IS A RECOMMENDATION SALUDOS

I installed the mod in my VB4 test forum.

Now my home page with the GCBOS chat open and enabled keeps "refreshing" indefinitely. About every 30secs (+/-) there is a request going from my browser to my server.

With hundreds of visitors in my forum I can imagine a major performance impact. I currently use "Cyb ChatBox" on my VB3.8 production server with no major performance impact (or at least its manageable). With Cyb ChatBox I can configure a timeout when a client is considered no longer active and no new chat entries will be delivered. A user will time out and I as admin can control it. I also restricted Chat access to only registered members to lower overhead.

How does GCBOS work? Will it time out? Can I configure it? Imagine all the users that walk away from their computer and leave my forum home page open.

Performance is important.

Love this addon, it is realy shaping up to be a MOD of the year.. question, like another user asked, is there any future option to have it timeout/idle. Because there is no idle feature, currently, it continues to display shouts to those who just keep my url loaded.. so it does cause a server problem.

I agree if this thing gets an idle feature it will be perfect.

It also really could use an option to disable smilies and a quicker way to setup permissions.

I have recently installed this on my forums, but it seems like it is loading one line of text at a time and scrolling with it, this is kinda boring to wait for if the display limit is high like 50-100 or so.

And as I read it should have been dealt with in version 0.6.9 but its not loading the chat instantly.
Is there an option for it that I have not seen or is there some thing else I can do about the issue?

Other than that I really like it, figured out how to change the colors on it was a bit of a pain, but I blame that on the new StyleVars as I looked for ever for that.

A couple of suggestions...the submit button should either be invisible or grey-ed out when a user doesn't have permission to chat...it prevents people from typing in a long sentence then realising they aren't logged in. Also, I don't like the way it retypes the history with Internet Explorer - it types lines twice or more times if they have been edited - looks kind of silly if you ask me.

Worked fine with Beta 2 - 3 - 4 but when I installed Version 4.0.0 Release Candidate 4
All the first versionene gives error in CMS as shown here:

For normal messages, you don't need special commands, only for the "additional" features...

Yes, just edit the GCBOS template and you will see where it is written to be altered to whatever you like.

Shoutbox will not work with that mod installed. If you want shoutbox to work remove that mod.

In the Plugin Manager find GCBOS, next you need to find Display Chatbox: forumhome_start, click edit and then change the execution order to 1.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates i've been busy with one of my other projects. Im just preparing my site for the upgrade to 4.0Gold PL1; because i have been distracted lately i plan on releasing a maintenance release to the 0.6 series, this includes a new method of displaying the chatbox that _should_ fix all of the display issues and conflicting mod's if i get time i may fix the depreciated errors as well :)

Got about 20 mB left to upload then i can start testing :)


New version (0.6.10) is now live, please follow the instructions in the README file for instructions on how to upgrade and install the product.

I just installed the latest update v10 I think? Everything is working great, but for some reason the /help command doesn't do anything. All the other commands work fine (/pm, /notice, etc), but /help doesn't return the help menu. Any ideas?

I'm not a coder - I'm an "end user"..

That means for me it's fact that:
one add-on works -> the other add-on doesn't really work
one add-on has the additional features (my users asked for) -> the other add-on doesn't have this additional features

That one just requires importing the product, it should fix commands however that's a beta and i havent tested it due to my lack of access to a webserver and the fact im halfasleep.

Crap sorry guys i forgot to update the xml to remove references, Its a simple fix for the commands five me a few minutes.

Can some one having the issues with commands try this product file, if i get a reports of this working i will update the main product later, the reasons commands died was to do with the fix's i made for PHP 5.3

Very nice work on this mod so far mate, however I would suggest wrapping the forum description in an if clause to prevent the little gray bar from appearing when there is no notice though, looks a lot neater that way.

Not sure on the message ID part for the other you need to update all your HTML markup codes from vb3 to vb4. I use this for the admin and just change the color per group but the same code.

A fantastic shoutbox with great possibilities. Thank you for your hard work mate, really appreciate it.

I do however have one problem. I added the shoutbox command to the navbar so it shows on all pages. Only problem is that on some pages, it looks really weird. Sometimes all the shouts are centered, other times the bbcode and all the commands are visible. I added a screenshot of the second example as an attachment.

Could you please take a look at this problem and let me know if it's fixable?

MCS, A simple, easy to understand /help menu would be good for the users, also maybe set it up so they can click down to a sub menu for stuff like all the smiley commands available?

I noticed a few other little things that perhaps can get fixed in the next release.

Are the PM notices displaying for everyone, I am seeing a notice for every single one that users are sending, should it not display the "you have a new private message" only to the receiver of that PM? whats the point in a private message if the name of the message and who it was sent to is displayed to all in the chat box?

The way the notice message loads makes the whole block jump around on load slightly, is it possible to just have it load like any other message in VB instead of the typed out style, also the notice seems to load twice sometimes, especially when I change it from the command line, very annoying.

The who's online location shows everyone on forumhome in GCBOS, can this be set to time out and only if they are using the chat?

XML ? Are you referring to the product XML you import? I re-downloaded the one here,, made changes, and re-uploaded mine and set to overwrite changes.

Ok in the above where you have "{vb:rawphrase Shoutbox}" change that to ShoutBox

or change {vb:rawphrase Shoutbox} back to {vb:rawphrase GCBOS} and then search your phrases for CGBOS and change the appropriate phrase.

the second is the correct way to do but either way will work.

Anyone know why my chatbox keeps repeating some weird message?

How do you get rid of the typewrite effect? I can't see any option to disable it in version 6.10

This is one of the things that's supposed to come in the next version I think. It was stated many pages back in this thread by the author. Hopefully that version comes soon.

Just a quick question, when i try and use the /help or /clear command nothing happens.

I'm not too worried about /help but definetly would like to get /clear working, or another way to clear the shoutbox! Thanks!

Ok in the above where you have "{vb:rawphrase Shoutbox}" change that to ShoutBox

or change {vb:rawphrase Shoutbox} back to {vb:rawphrase GCBOS} and then search your phrases for CGBOS and change the appropriate phrase.

the second is the correct way to do but either way will work.

I don't have any other mods installed, so I think it's probably some interaction with the forum software itself. As you say, most likely having the shoutbox set to not type everything out on refresh will alleviate the problem, so I'll wait and try your next update. Thank you kindly for the reply!

Can someone please! help me! I'll keep it as SHORT as possible:

1), Going to the AdminCP
2), Go to Site Name / URL / Contact Details
3), Changing FORUM URL from HTTP://forum.xxxx.com to forum.xxx.com
4), Chat box no longer works!

Why is the HTTP at front needed? I wish for people to use both http and https.. hence I removed the http. Any help, please! Third time I'm asking, and no one replies to my question.

I am now frustrated with this mod, as I just spent 3 hours setting up my new vb 4 forum and I can't do nothing in my admin panel or anything.

When in the "who's online" area of the forum, it shows the users at "GCBOS". Is there a way to change this to say they are on the Chat Box instead of GCBOS?

I've noticed things getting a little slower at heavy load, but not bad at all...it seems to be fairly lightweight. There's no particular DB overhead either, as the shouts are not archived.

Sorry if this has already been answerd when you high light over someones name in the shout box and click it it shows /pm "User_Name" in the input box see attachment this happends even if the usergroup is set to view and talk only also if you do shout /pm eveyone can read it.

3. fix the shoutbox shout loading order or give an option to reverse the order (we are used to infernoshout!!)
4. instead of the delete message command thing make it pop up above the shoutbox like inferno (mods are clumsy)
5. tabbed pm like mgc and inferno

most of the things i have suggested are from inferno considering it was the best shoutbox and the developer disappeared 2 years ago.

Im not supporting plugins.

There is an issue on otaku with the hosts causing a 402 error (this is due to the server) otaku has a custom edit :)

I've had two users report that they somehow muted themselves? I don't even have mute enabled, and never told anyone how to use the mute feature. Any suggestions how to fix?
