How to you make the bbcode render?

Not sure what you mean. If I want something bold, you write:
my text here and get my text here

im trying to create a plugin but when i put bbcode into it, its just giving me the [b] etc for a output, is something special enabling the bbcode to be executed

It really depends on what hook location your are using and what you are trying to do. You haven't given any specifics, so I really can't tell you where you are going wrong.
