notify of new PM not working?

I edited a few templates today and in my hast to finish up i forgot to save my backed up code.

now i have everything back to normal but upon receiving a new PM it doesnt notify me with a popup box. i beleive its just the standard popup notification.

what would cause this issue and what template do i need to fix to return the notification.

Maybe you turned it off? The template is pm_popup_script but it gets appended to the end of the footer if necessary.
