This is the SEO friendly yet Advanced AJAX powered Musicbox by DnP Network?. It is found by Silveryhat in the late 2008 and early 2009. The original version was first use way back in the '06 or '07 with limited functions and no ajax support. A serious upgrade and rebuilding have been made few weeks ago for this release. Main goal was to make it faster and compatible with all vBulletin forums. This project is the hard work of Silveryhat and DnP Administrator of DnP Network?, we wish to bring the best to the vB community.

Administrator skill level MUST be intermediate, for you must know what you are doing. 70% of the issues was because Admin does not have a clue of the host configuration and what the notice tries to tell them when a problem occurs. Also the other 20% is because Admin does not read the 2-Step Installation Guide carefully. I will not give support for such situations.

I have taken the use of the built-in Contact form of vBulletin instead of coding another Request section. Such as shown in this screenshot

However, i'd take note of your idea and if the demand raised there is a chance it would be implemented. At the moment, the Moderating new song feature is being developed at the highest priority because next update is coming shortly.

It depends on your configuration :) . They cannot upload to your server but they can add song/video clip that URL is from another host.

Those songs you have posted but not working, the Patch 3 download will give you more helpful hint to edit.

Admin has FULL control over those songs anyone posts. Admin can delete / edit them anyway he/she wants. Play a song and at the bottom of it there are two buttons that you may find. Refer to F.A.Q question 6th.

Imagine how a mess it would become if one member adds "Lady Gaga" , then another adds "ladyGaga" and his friend who also plays the forum does "Gaga lady", but a random member does not like those names and wants to do "Gaga my luv" for himself while a noob dont know wat and dont know how where he accidentally creates "Lazy haha" into the list.. The same reason applies for Album records therefore only Admin can create the artist and album. It might be a hard work but you want your musicbox looks good with working portraits and correct information.However, add the musicbox grows, I don't see any reason not to make it better. I'll note the idea as well.

How much for you to install?
Erm I see no excuse to charge someone to install a beta mod. It's way easy with only 3 steps, why don't you give it a try? I can help you install it but you need to PM me your host info, ftp server and forum admin password. It is complicated and these information are too personal to share.

For .com/song362 it is a short url that i use (this setting is optional in the configuration). I'm adding the new url rewrite feature that's pretty much similar to what you say (spoileeeeeeer : /video-Show-off-fails , /music-bad-day , etc..

1. It totally depends on the database encoding. It works perfectly on mine.
2. ._. no. If a webmaster does not want a file to be linked we should not violate his privacy. But doesnt firefox already bypass hotlink protection ?

There is only a setting for <<Yes, members may enter songs>> Or <<No, members may not enter songs>>. Some members just signed up yesterday and are not informed about artist or album or even the mod in general while other members are perfectly capable of understanding how the mod works. If I want the more informed members to use the mod, the less informed have to use the mod as well. Either I do it all myself or I spend all my time checking to see what "NooB1337" may have put into the mod while I was sleeping.

Permissions are more member user friendly also. They want to enter songs they can share with their friends because my forum is 90% teenagers from all over the world. 15 yo girl in Norway wants to show 17 yo boy in Germany what her favorite songs are... I dont know bands in Norway so that is a lot of work for me to do that could very easily be done by the member. Making a usergroup (or giving an existing one permission) wouldnt be messy as you said, you know who on your forum is bright enough not to enter "Lady Gaga" "LuvLadyGaga" "Gaga" etc...

I can't see what you're getting at.If you're allowing new members straight into registered usergroup, then it will be the same for all the mods on your site. You can only allow usergroup (member/registered usergroup) to use the mod not individual members.It is viewable for all..You might need to take a look at setting up a new usergroup prior to registered usergroup,and take them on a training course.Or post a good sticky..

After installation i got database error on music.php

By installation do mean uploading the upload folder and as well as run the install_dnp_musicbox.php to setup the database? Please don't forget that step. If the problem persists, simply click the option uninstall database and install it again.

I have both modules for vbAdvanced and forum with no vBadvanced to show the instant! box on homepage, (just like on my forum homepage dnp.silveryhat.conm). But they are not perfect. And I'm not the coder of that plugin. DnP is. It may take more time for him to develop it until I take a deeper look at it. And I'm not sure if it will be free plugin or paid plugin. He might take a charge of $5 or $10 but that lays in the future. Currently I'm working on the comment feature , take a peek.

Just curiosity and unrelated question ^^' , was your global.php modified by some modification? The install does not use array_merge but that line at the top shows some notice. Seems like a global notice to me

I have just had a friend of mine runs a quick test on vBulletin 3.8.2 to see if the error shows up for him. But unfortunately, no. He sets up a brand new forum, no other hacks but DnP Instant! Musicbox. I also have other moderators from other forums runs check on vB 3.8.1 and 3.8.3 but none meet the error that you describe. I can assume that this notice comes from other MOD that you have hacked that hooks up to global.php.

The youtube file you have posted on your forum, Edit it and change the type from audio to flash so it can display correctly. Make sure you change settings in DnPMusicbox_Settings.php first though. Especially the base_link option.

I see. A sample link to listen. And then download options lead to another link instead. I haven't installed downloadsII yet so I dont know its table structure if anyone knows please give me a heads up and surely i can speed up the feature completion twice as fast.

No, what I mean is to give the user full control over who and what they post. Being an Admin is hard enough without having to blindly add everything a user may or may not want.
Let the moderator do the job of weeding out any rubbish that someone makes.
Or, have a setting that either chooses"Admin" or "User" mode to dictate? I dunno, I like the product, just seems like to much work on my end. :p

Latest comments are pulled from any media title that has new comments. I'll contact the author of downloadsII mod if I have time ._.

I'd rather give a variety of them instead of 1 or 2. That is not a way I want to set for the musicbox limitation. We learn about something by playing along with it not just by look. ;) Back up a few posts you would see a screenshot for the coming convenient configuration editor, that we no longer have to edit the file and reupload it to the server anymore. At that time you will see the usefulness of those customizations already exist.

Searching with unicode pretty depends on the database encoding and page encoding that you have setup. I'm currently testing this on many different forums to get a good solution for all. Stay tune :)

I gave you embed link for music on imeem not video. The video link is slightly different. You have to change the m to the v.

The 30s preview for some media is the restriction on their site, we can do nothing to change it.

This option might be added along with Local Link feature in v1.0.5 . In the coming v1.0.4 there is an option to disable the download button for audio file.

I have thought of all that when I made the decision to code the rule where we have to manually add an artist to the database. Without that, we trade for a price of flexibility : artists who have -no biography, -no list of media that belongs to that artist, cannot search because the name is not recorded anywhere. Take a look in the further future, you will see the reason why the hard work will pay off. A cleaner, more organized artist list, searchable and easies to find media by the artist.

Tasks in v1.0.5 :
Local URL feature. When you check the checkbox Local URL when posting a , the media will follow a predefined folder path. This will help the owner to dynamically fight against leeching and hotlink bandwidth abuse. For example the default setting for path is www.domain.com/music012 . Local URL media obtains the folder path from that setting plus the media filename. Path can be easily modified therefore if someone copied www.domain.com/music012/mysong.mp3 today, tomorrow it could be changed into www.domain.com/musichaha/mysong.mp3 and the old link is no longer valid.

Upgrade some blocks.

In future there might be Article feature. Instead of posting as a media, the new type is Article :rolleyes:

You should be aware there is a difference between installing the MOD and posting an Illegal media. Don't get offended, I totally understand what you mean but it's no right to accuse something while it has no purpose of violating any laws. It does what the administrator wants it to do.

Besides, embed media from online video sharing services such as youtube,dailymotion,etc.. is NOT illegal. These services allow the link to be distributed from their player embed feature, and from their site. If a media is not acceptable to be shared, it will be disable to embed. Like youtube has removed 100,000+ media from its database and restricts the ability to share content of some video clips.

Next time when you are about to announce something related to copyrights and license, make sure it has not been discussed about it in the first hand, before giving negative suggestion and false impeachment.

This step will take care of the situation, just follow loosely :)

The musicbox has the built in option to define admin group. For the First time and only first time you need to do this if your default admin group is not 6.
Download the DnPMusicbox_Settings.php from your server, open and find
'admin_groupid_allowed' => '6',

Change 6 to your admin group id. Save and reupload to your server. From now on you can use the Configurations editor and never have to repeat this step again. Unless you change the admin group again .

Ok i just found out what the problem is. Can you change that you dont have too us the "Primary Usergroup" so they got admin menu on the musicbox.

I prefer to us "Additional Usergroups".

2 - I make a category in AdminCP. When I post a song I see no category appears in the list is there something wrong?
Category Level 1 is considered as Parent Category therefore it cannot be used.
Create a sub-category under it and you are set. Currently it only supports 2 Levels of Category.

Yes it is, and i'll quote it straight from the Configurations page ;)

? On Unix host : DnPMusicbox_Settings.php file must be CHMOD to 777 (writable)

If you prefer a backup file to be automatically created every time you save, then make CHMOD 777 for the folder tmp as well.

- The description for category is currently turned off. Reason : I'm implementing it to some place that looks good to display ;) . At the moment you can leave it blank for it is not in use just yet.

I cannot see an option in the administrator menu to verify its content

The default administrator group is 6. Any other group different than this will be considered as minor groups. If your administrator account belongs to a different group, you need to change this setting. Go ahead and read the F.A.Q question number 8 (http://www.silveryhat.com/delynie/f130/how-to-and-f-a-q-for-dnp-instant-musicbox-6868.html) for instruction.

When you upgrade from v1.0.3 using the install_dnp_musicbox.php , it asks you to update the setting file. Did you perform this step? Make sure DnPMusicbox_Settings.php has CHMOD 777 if you are using UNIX host.

Otherwise, you can send me your DnPMusicbox_Settings.php.

:rolleyes: I think you have downloaded v1.0.4 in about 5mins before I added v1.0.5. Might you download the newer version. The 0 there just indicates there is no category yet. In v1.0.5 it has a better notice.

Few suggestions/requests on next update:

1/ Under the category drop down menu (when add song), can we add a spacer/line between each of category?

2/ Can we have a popup notice or something that alert admin there are new pending media that needs approval? Like showing the number of new media next to "View unapproved link report". And this could be done also for the broken link report???

3/ Can we allow user to add album title instead admin? (like allow user to add singer name, bio, and other...)

Question:
when I click on View unapproved link report, nothing shown up???? Since I am doing the testing, then I know which media is new submit, so I clicked on that media in order to approve or deny. If users submitted, I am for sure, I will not have a clue or time to go through to check which one are pending....
Edit: found this under quick list box.

Would be nice if there is the number of new media shows next to the View unapproved link, and once click on that number, it will display all the new pending media. On top of that, it's also nice if we have the approve or deny button without viewing media.

Also, want to confirm that this media box also plays Youtube playlist, all you do is just change "v" to "p" in the coding. However, please create an icon for YouTube playlist. For some reason, the no info image did not display for Youtube playlist on the instant box top new media.

Would be nice if there is the number of new media shows next to the View unapproved link, and once click on that number, it will display all the new pending media. On top of that, it's also nice if we have the approve or deny button without viewing media.This is what I concern about earlier. It possibly has a hit on performance, some host cannot process too many requests and I try to optimize the speed to the most. But I may add an option to switch it on/off in later version. Admin must see the media before it can be approved. There is also new function to one click approve all later.

Silver, maybe a module for vbadvanced, other than your a pretty much close as to what vbtube can do. One thing, when you upload music with vbtube, you have the ability to use your logo on the videos. I haven't uploaded any mp3s using it though.

And is posible you can give de admins more rights. So the can change everthing. Because i have to give them administrator rights so the can change everthing. It wold be better if they can change it via the musicbox.

- Artist bio information of course will be able to edit on mainpage later, only time I need to implement it. I'm thinking of get rid of the musicbox admincp itself too.

On instantbox_media_per_line , I have set it to 4... however, isn't that for media? I am having problem with Random Artist list, not Random Media.

I want the Random Artist to be like your that was why I took 2 screenshot, one from my board and one from your. Again, my random artist is not showing 4 in a row....

I uploaded all the files and used the install file to setup the db tables etc..setup completed. I do see the DNP settings in my vB cpanel..I created a category, artist and album. But how do i add media ? or media links??? ! I am logged in as admin and I do not see any links on the http://127.0.0.1/myforum/music.php page.

Also verify that DnPMusicbox_Settings.php exists on the same forum root folder too

Please make sure you upload the content of upload folder in the package under your forum root. Note http://127.0.0.1 is the local address, where do you read this from?
Also verify that DnPMusicbox_Settings.php exists on the same forum root folder too

Let me help you put everything in the right order. ;)

Back up to post 198 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1842817&postcount=198) there is an attachment for user who has minor/haning problem of installing the database. You can get this file and follow this instruction :

1-Upload the attachment you just download to the forum_root

2-Make sure the folder you upload musicbox into has CHMOD as 777 if you are using UNIX host.

3-Run installation again. This time it should be smooth

This musicbox DOES NOT interfere or hook into any component on your forum. It is designed to get information from the forum, not changing any on it. Verify what modification have you installed recently, as well as describe for me what steps have you done and how did you attempt to get rid of the tables yourself ? You can pm me these information if you would want to.

Normal users do not have permission to:
- Add category
- Add album (well, not yet)
- Add weblinks (we don't want spam and flooding on the forum with external,ad links)

Normal users may (all options are optional - settings are in Configurations)
- Add Artist
- Post/Edit Media
- Post/Edit Article

Go back to first post and download the attachment improved_installer_for_v1.0.5 , upload the content of v1.0.5 , then upload the new installer. Now start install_dnp_musicbox.php as normal. That will help the process of upgrading easier ;)

Because my users want to help out badly and of course i wouldnt allow permission from newbies but only allow my usergroup who made 500 posts plus. giving permission to specific usergroups is the best solution. older and loyal members tend to know the rules and what not to post so please reconsider

Make use of the admin_groupid_allowed , you can add multiple group ids to manage the musicbox along with the administrator. Of course they can delete/edit/post media but they cannot access musicbox admincp.

And yeah, admin work is hard, but it'll pay off and fulfill your goal. :up:

of seeing this modification progress and not had one problem. As with major mods like this, a lot of reading is required and not just a case of skipping through. Thats were problems start.

My members use free file streaming services and embed their personal video's..Now that the videos are in their own catagory,they are easier to find and comment on,rather than them keep making useless post's on open forum. A major mod for my site and well done m8..:up:

Ah I know. Most of problems occur on client side where basic instruction has not been read carefully. Too bad the post is limited to 20k characters so I don't intend to type down any detail guide yet.

I have a test server set up on my home pc which is running an off-line version of my site fine. However, when I navigate to forum/install_dnp_musicbox.php (after uploading all files to their respective directories) all I get is a page that's all over the place:

Okay, now that I've managed to install this awesome mod and have a play with it, I have some requests/wish list for future versions (I haven't read through all the previous comments, so apologies if these have been requested before):


Option to enable smilies in comments.
Option to change the order of comments on media (oldest at top/newest at top).
Hide the thumbs up/down icon on your own comments via the sue of some <if> conditional (like on the forums you can't add reputation to your own posts).
Ability to edit comments (maybe based on usergroup permissions to edit own posts: ADMIN CP> Usergroups> Usergroup Manager > Post / Thread Permissions > Can Edit Own Posts).
Option to remove "English Singer?" radio buttons from forum/admincp/dnpmusicbox_setting.php?do=addartist (or replace with a "Nationality" free text box).
Ability to have more than one sub category.
Ability to have one entry belong to more than one category (e.g. "Indie" and "Bands beginning B", for example).
When adding new media, only display albums belonging to the attributed artist (presumably this would need some sort of refresh if/when an artist is selected). At the moment, you can select an artist and then a different album that doesn't belong to that artist.
forum/admincp/dnpmusicbox_setting.php?do=addlogo "Website Logo URL" is currently limited to 50 characters, is there a way to increase this to allow for longer image urls?
If a user does not submit an artist/album/song thumbnail then a default one is used (I personally prefer the ability to have a different default image for each option).
"New topics" to show what forum/category the topics are in. Also, if they could follow the forum's (cookie based?) system of being read or unread, displaying "there are no new threads since you last visit" if this is the case, rather than showing threads as new which the user may have already read.
Disallow the same name artist to be entered more than once.
Maybe enable some sort of tagging feature.
Ability to end album/artist outside the admin cp.
Ability to collapse "Newest Songs", "Singer Database" etc. modules like you can "Latest Comments".
XHTML validity.

So far so good Silveryhat. The latest version installed and worked with no images problems at all. I never had a problem installing this on my host.

Great mod.

When going to my musicbox (using IE8), it autoplays the last added track.

If I click a category of music (rock) and then click an artist to play, it plays, but does NOT stop playing last song -- therefore two songs are playing over each other.

Other symptoms: There is no new broswer window or tab opening, but what appears to be a hidden process playing the other audio. The only way to stop this is to close your browser totally and after it is close, about 10-15 seconds later the audio stops.

Any ideas how to stop this from happening?
