Given that the chat network is no longer ran by an official member of vBulletin staff, perhaps it would be better to move it somewhere more neutral.

I agree - not many people use it anyway.

Floris if i'm not mistaken is no longer an employee at jelsoft. He stepped down (I could be mistaken) maybe somebody will correct me on this.

You are correct.

I think we will probably just remove the chat option as its not really used anyway.

Personally I cannot see what is wrong with it being provided by a member.

I think it'd be used a lot more if it were on a network aimed at computer users. My suggestion would be freenode, as you have the channels for PHP/MySQL and lots of web frameworks on there :)

I never was an employee, I was there on contract basis. And I didn't step down.

The irc.vbirc.com was never "official" it's all run by me : as a vb fan, irc.vbulletin.org would have been an CNAME alias even if I was a customer. #vborg is just another channel on the network.

Once Marco is back (he's global irc operator running irc.vbulletin.org's #vborg channel (not me)) I will discuss with him if we kick vborg off of our network or not; based on this request.

How can anyone not like the GREAT Floris? vBulletin legend if ever there was one. All praise to the great Floris!

Floris I'm worried about your statement that you didn't step down. I know you won't discuss it so that's ok. But I just want to say...if you didn't step down, I am 100% certain you weren't sacked for misconduct, so it must be that they felt they didn't need staff at your level any more...which is a disgrace!

My personal situation with my bad eyes (I have albinism and the blarghs that come with it) and minor changes (won't go into that) at Jelsoft caused me to be unable to continue under the old arrangement I had; to be part of the team. I thought things through and decided in February I can't continue and informed Jelsoft (who wanted me to stay as it wasn't their intention for this to happen) that despite that I wish to continue to stay on the team under the old Jelsoft arrangement, I can't do the changed arrangement - and that because I don't do my hours they can eventually let me go.

So that's a 'dirty' version of 'everything' that occurred last January/February.

They didn't let me go,
I didn't quit.

We just couldn't continue.

I hope that explains it a little bit. It's hard to explain things while respecting the contract (and any NDA clause in it) and without feeling uncomfortable telling people about my personal situation with my bad eyes (since it's basically nobody their business).

Anyway.

I'm looking at this from an objective point of view in that you're no longer on the staff at vB.com, and we don't know the full story, or whether you left on bad terms. The network should either be in-house or neutral.

I thoroughly enjoyed the chat when we were in there a few nights ago. It was my first visit, but I hope not my last. :)

Me too. I had never visited it before, but that night I popped in and have been coming back religiously ever since. :p
It's great to be able to chat with so many like-minded vB users. :)
