vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap 3.0
We are extremely pleased to inform the vBulletin.org community that a fully revamped version of the vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap (previously "vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator" (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=206169)) v.3.0, is being released to all licensed vBulletin users effective immediately!
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/
Note: The NEW vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap 3.0 replaces all previous versions of the "vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator", and includes support for all the new URL types in vBulletin 4.x.
New in the vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap v.3.0
The new sitemap alters the way data is structured in fundamental ways. Sitemap 3.0 segments different content areas into separate files, so you end up with a unique set of files per content type: forums, blogs, cms, groups, albums, members, tags, etc. In addition, the new sitemap has an extended priority feature that utilizes the built in 'weight' tool of the vBulletin XML sitemap generator for individual forums, CMS sections and articles to act as a multiplier.
We believe these changes are responsible for delivering increased returns for a number of forums from customers and testers we've been tracking. Please track your own progress via your Google Webmaster tools account, Google Analytics or Gravity Insights (http://www.vbseo.com/en/gravity-insights/).
A Clean and Beautiful Interface
The new sitemap also features a clean and beautiful interface, built from the ground up. We believe it reflects the quality, precision and attention to detail placed into each aspect of this release. We are passionate about building software, and great software is beautiful inside, and out.

This is not vBSEO this is the sitemap generator. The sitemap generator does not have any copyright on the board. For vBSEO, we do offer a branding free with it. vBSEO will work on a windows server, but you need Isapi Rewrite Manger. vBSEO does not need to be installed for the sitemap generator, but it is recommended.

Obviously!
Infact, I upgraded so it was already 0777. Sitemap files create successfully in data folder. The problem is just with removing download log records from the interface.

- Manually ran it, and I went to google webmaster tools. Last downloaded 4 minutes ago. Status: Warnings
- Clicked on details. Every single one shows up with Warnings.
Sitemap errors and warnings
- URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs redirect to other locations. We recommend that your Sitemap contain URLs that point to the final destination (the redirect target) instead of redirecting to another URL.

I asked this because I saw this in the description:
In addition, the following copyright notice must be maintained.vBSEO(TM) ? 2005-2009 Crawlability, Inc.
So, there is no branding?
vBSEO will work on a windows server, but you need Isapi Rewrite Manger.
I'm on a shared Windows server, and this isn't an option.
They do have a server I can move to that has Micronovae mod_rewrite installed.
http://www.micronovae.com/ModRewrite/articles/SEOSolutions.html
Will that work?
vBSEO does not need to be installed for the sitemap generator, but it is recommended.
Same question as above. If I were to purchase vBSEO (sorry if I shouldn't ask here), will the above solution work?

If you replacing your showpost link on your thread pages with Permalink because Google gives your sitemap warnings for having 301 redirects in it.

thanks but
All the URLs in your Sitemap have the same priority. ERROR @ google
ll the URLs in your Sitemap are set to the same priority (not the default priority). Priority indicates the importance of a particular URL relative to other URLs on your site, and doesn't impact your site's performance in search results. If all URLs have the same priority, Google can't tell which are more important
tried this http://www.vbseo.com/f44/google-sitemap-have-same-priority-24325/#post152275
and regenerate the site map twice and submitted twice to Google
every time says the same error after two or three days

1. I have 14 sitemap files all are okay except for 2, 3 and 4 which are giving me: All the URLs in your Sitemap have the same priority.
2. I have: Total URLs in Sitemap 401566 (but on my site I have Posts: 1,042,723) is that a bad thing not to have all your posts included in the sitemap?
3. I am still having to manually run the sitemap because it is not auto generating itself.

My sitemap is being generated with no problems. But it has never been downloaded according to the Downloads log after 8 successful generations. When I click the link to the sitemap I get a 404 error. I have tested the rewrite on my server and it works fine. My webmasters tool page says that Google gets the same 404 error and cannot find the sitemap.
Some help would be appreciated.

1. did you upload the .htaccess file or add the rewrite lines to your existing .htaccess file?
2. does your server permit mod_rewrite?
3. did you customize the location of the sitemap file in the vBSEO_sitemap options in your Admin CP?
4. did you try adding the following lines BEFORE the vBSEO_sitemap lines in .htaccess:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
5. do you have any other mod_rewrite instructions in your .htaccess file? if so, ensure that only the last one ends with "[L]".

No, I will try this.
5. do you have any other mod_rewrite instructions in your .htaccess file? if so, ensure that only the last one ends with "[L]". No, it's the one that came with the mod.
Thanks for the help, I'll report back success (or lack thereof)! :D

I'm suppose to be looking for my sitemap at http://www.mydomain.com/forum/sitemap_1.xml.gz correct?
No. Look at the vBSEO sitemap settings in your Admin CP. It will tell you the exact location of your sitemap according to your settings but it should end in sitemap_index.xml.gz.

You do not need to move it anywhere. Let it remain in data/ folder. Its the htacees rewrite rules that does the job of accessing it from root.

You are missing vBSEO Sitemap Generator files. Make sure you uploaded the content of upload folder to your forum rolder.
I re-uploaded everything and every file was overwritten which means they were there already. If you know which specific files I'm missing, please let me know. I have no trouble generating the sitemap. It runs automatically without any trouble. I tested the mod_rewrite and it works fine. I was able to access the Google page as a test.
I don't want to put any ugly comments or get an attitude because after all, these hacks are free. But I cannot access the sitemap with the .htaccess rewrite rule and neither can Google. That effectively makes this mod useless if I have to manually do everything. I'd appreciate some help.
Thanks. ;)

If you already have an .htaccess file, you'll need to add to it - needed addition included with download. If you don't yet have an .htaccess file, you can upload the one in the download.

I have two issues:
1) I'm used to seeing the traditional sitename.com/sitemap.xml file and this does not offer that. Those files are typically just a list of links with a note on how often to update whereas everything with this product is gzipped. any reasoning?
2) I'm also used to seeing a link to the sitemap.xml in the footer of the website and again, don't see that in this plugin. Curious as to why there as well.
3) When I open the gzipped xml sitemap it shows mostly unoptimized URLs. However, I just installed vbSEO and my options in the sitemap are set "no" as far as including old URLS. What's the deal here?
Thanks in advance.

jmw,
you should increase wait_timeout setting in mysql configuration to avoid that.
Yahoo supports the same sitemap as Google - sitemap_index.xml.gz, submit it here: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites
Das UndergrounD,
disable Text sitemap option, remove *.gz files from data/ folder and regenerate sitemap.
SnowBot,
you should remove everything from "add-ons" list option.

You should keep only "vBSEO - Create Google/Yahoo Sitemap" one.
I have the same issue.
How do I delete it? All I see is Enable (I disabled it) or Edit from the dropdown.

For various reasons, I need to move the rewrite code to the .htaccess file of my domain's root instead of my /forums directory.
What can I change the .htaccess rewrite rule to in order for it to work in my root's .htaccess?
Edit: I found this Wiki page of yours: http://www.vbseo.com/wiki/Sitemap:FAQ
I want to make sure that by following those steps, my root's sitemap (which is a WordPress blog) will not be overwritten. In other words, I still want my forum sitemap to be located in the same place it currently is, but I just want the rewrite rules to be specified in the root's .htaccess rather than the forum's .htaccess.
Thanks

You can follow the steps described in wiki, if you have existing .htaccess file, you should just add new rewrite rules to the top of it.

Something is awry, hopefully with Yahoo, but I wanted to report it here anyway, as if Yahoo changed something in this communication sequence, it impacts the effectiveness of this excellent mod.
The last 2 days, on both vBSEO'd sites and not, the following results are in the SiteMap Generator Report Update email. This is for at least 4 sites that I am managing, all on separate hosts and hosting companies:

No, you don't overwrite your current one. Follow what the directions say: copy the contents of the new .htaccess and ADD it to your current one.

crazlunatic,
try to submit it manually to Google: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/dashboard
jmw,
you can disable some URL types to reduce the number of entries in sitemap (like showpost, member profiles, tag pages).
Catherines WC,
make sure that you completed all steps as described in installtion instructions (including .htaccess entry). You should submit forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz then.

Everything worked fine with the sitemap generator for quite some time and then out of the blue I've started getting some issues with Google.
On my Google sitemaps page it now says I have two site maps....
forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz
forums/external.php?type=RSS2
The second one has errors which all seem to be related to new posts...

Any ideas on how to correct this? Perhaps append the .htaccess file? And if so, what do I add to it?
Thanks in advance. :)

My first sitemap has just been created but there seems to be a problem(or not)...
When i check the summary I got in the e-mail all the x numbers are double then they should be.
Show Thread: A number 2x the amount of threads I have
Show Post: A number 2x the amount of posts I have
Member Profiles: A number 2x the amount of users I have
Im not sure of the other summary options because these are the easiest ones to check but is there something wrong or is it supposed to be that way? What can I do to correct it if its not supposed to happen?
Thanks
EDIT:
OK, I looked through the sitemap that was generated and it included all the non-rewriten and all rewriten pages. Is this normal and would this be considered duplicate content?

Make sure that you have "Include old URLs" option disabled.
The option to include old urls is set to yes, but this is what it says "While vBSEO will automatically 301-redirect old (dynamic) URLs to the newly formatted static URLs, some users may opt to include the old URLs in the sitemap to ensure Google finds the redirect headers for each page. Include this option until you note that most old URLs have been purged from Google."
Since I just installed vBSEO, and if I understand that message correctly, it says I should/could leave this option on untill old url are gone from google. What I dont understand is how will they disappear if I will be constantly including them in the sitemap. Please explain this option a bit more to me so I know what to do.

I installed this AddOn two month ago. I installed everything correct! Sitemap, htaccess und Bot-Logs show that everything should be fine. Googlebot shows up every day but it only records a few topics. Since the last week all my google-searchresults are gone!!! Why does google ignore my forum? It does not contain "bad words" or any stuff google does not like.
Should I uninstall this AddOn?
p.s: I run this tool without vBSEO.

I run this tool also without vBSeo for more then a year now.
Since this new 3.8 version, I get a parse error on line 62313 in sitemap_4.xml.gz.
Parsing error
We were unable to read your Sitemap. It may contain an entry we are unable to recognize. Please validate your Sitemap before resubmitting.
Now I download the sitemap_4.xml.gz and this is what line 62313 says:
<loc>http://www.mydomain.org/bbs/downloads.php?do=cat&id=1</loc>
Seems this mod is like with all versions, having problems with Downloads II?
I hope it's not the same problem as was stated here:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1446630&postcount=645
Which I have stated as fixed by Jelle! over a year ago. This file should have been updated at that time.
Can anybody confirm it's the same problem or otherwise provide me with a fix?

What do you have in the Forum URL and Homepage URL text boxes?
Also, do you have vBSEO installed as well as the vBSEO Sitemap? Check that your sitemap settings in the ACP reflect this correctly for your forum.

Thankyou I have fixed it !
No I dont have vBSEO installed I only have the vBSEO Sitemap installed.
Do I need to have the vBSEO installed as well?
Another question please !
I have a Google Tools account and 2 weeks ago I generated a site map from some generator and submitted it.
Because I have just installed vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap in my copy of vBulletin 3.8 do I go and delete the site map that I have submitted to Google sitemaps?:D

Don't delete it. Just edit it if it has a different filename from the one generated by the vBSEO Sitemap.

The vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap has been successfully generated for your vBulletin forums at:

This is the link you use and report to Google, etc.
However, the actual location will be redirected by an .htaccess file mod_rewrite. Did you add the required lines to your .htaccess file?

As to my post #201.
I can state now it IS the same problem as in februari last year, which was not fixed in this new version in spite of the fact that a complete solution was given.
A missed opportunity, pity. Maybe somebody can have a look at it and change the release zipfile to have the fixes included.

vBSEO Sitemap Generator creates only sitemap_*.xml.gz sitemaps, the second one is not related to it.I realize that. I guess what I'm wondering is how I can block the vBulletin RSS feed which is being picked up as an additional sitemap. And because of this, google is warning me that it's duplicate content. I was thinking the .htacess file might already have a line in it to prevent google from picking up the rss site map feed.
Since it doesn't seem to be part of the stock .htaccess file, is there something I could add to stop google from picking up the vBulletin rss feed so I don't get warnings about duplicate content. :)

This isn't vBSEO - that is a paid product you can find at http://www.vbseo.com
This is a free and independent add-on by the people who created vBSEO. All it does it generate sitemaps for search engines. It doesn't rewrite URLS or do anything else except the sitemap.

For those without Apache, ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Lite's httpd.conf can block direct access to the data directory this way:
#Deny all
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/forum/vbseo_sitemap/data/
RewriteRule .? - [F]
The thing works fine on my test forum but I'm getting an error when running it on my live server:
[create sitemap file] filename: sitemap_27.xml.gz, number of urls: 19334 [3,470.2Kb mem used] [291s (+0s)]
[create sitemap in text format] part #28 [3,470.1Kb mem used] [291s (+0s)]
[create sitemap index] filename: sitemap_index.xml.gz, number of sitemaps: 27 [3,474.4Kb mem used] [291s (+0s)]
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 36363178 bytes) in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\mydomain.com\httpdocs\forum\vbse o_sitemap\vbseo_sitemap_functions.php on line 1537
I'll try increasing the PHP Memory Limit in php.ini.
EDIT: Yeah, it worked fine when increasing the memory to 48mb.
I'm pretty sure it's being caused by urllist.txt.gz, which is precisely that size. No way to make it create it in parts and then, when it's done, merge the parts together? That way it would work for those who do not have access to php.ini. This way I'll need to keep increasing my memory as my board gets bigger.
Bug:
Generate Yahoo-Compatible Text Sitemap
Select "Yes" to automatically generate a text format sitemap with 1 URL per line.
This text sitemap must be manually submitted to Yahoo at http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request/.
Should be: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit?

You shouldn't copy or move the data to the forum root. That's what the htaccess is for:
Note: If you already have an .htaccess file in your forum root, DO NOT upload the vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap .htaccess file as it will replace the contents of this file. Instead, enter the following code in your 'forum-root/.htaccess' file at the bottom:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
If you have IIS instead of Apache, then use ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Lite but since you're getting forbidden errors it looks like the htaccess files are working for you. Once you submit, then use this link: http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz - and not http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap_index.xml.gz - because that will give a forbidden error. The first link will redirect the search engine to the second link (because of the htaccess file) and it will not give a forbidden error.

Googles help states:
URL not allowed
Google has detected some URLs that appear to be at a higher level or different domain than the Sitemap file location. If you receive this error, try moving your Sitemap file to a higher location in your site and submitting again. For instance, if your Sitemap is listed under http://www.example.com/mysite/sitemap.xml, the following URLs are not valid for that Sitemap:
http://www.example.com/ - it's at a higher level than the Sitemap
http://www.example.com/yoursite/ - it's in a directory parallel to the Sitemap
You should also check that the urls all begin with the same domain as your Sitemap location. For instance, if your Sitemap is listed under http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml, the following URLs are not valid for that Sitemap:
http://www.google.com - it's in the google.com domain rather than the example.com domain
http://example.com/ - it's missing the initial www
www.example.com/ - it's missing the protocol (http)
https://www.example.com/ - it's using a different protocol (https rather than http)
Any URLs in the Sitemap that are not denied are processed normally.
My sitemap xml file is at: http://#####.co.nz/vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap_1.xml.gz
and the .htaccess file is at http://#####.co.nz/ I have no Forum file so all sub files are off my root directory.
Any help would be appreciated.
