View Full Version : Uploading REALLY Big Files?

I'm setting our main company site with vBulletin, and I was wondering what the best way to transfer REALLY big files (1GB+) between our remote customers and us...both ways.

Most files that I'll be dealing with are less than 100MB, but I've had, on occasion, had to have our clients upload their files to their site, and I download them, and vice-versa.

I'm thinking I'd like to have separate FTP accounts for each client, but I'm not only not sure how I would go about that (efficiently or automatically), and whether or not it's at all secure.

I could set up a domain with subdomains for each client that needs to transfer large files. Not a problem, but I'd kinda like to be able to have them work within my site...if that makes sense... :erm:

I'm using vB 3.8.0, BTW...

Thanks for any suggestions! :)

FTP would be the best route for large/large-ish files, IMO. If you are worried about security, use SFTP, FTPS or FTP over SSH (or maybe even SCP).

That's what I thought, but what are the concerns with setting up a browser FTP in my site for members only?

Again, I want this to be a two-way communication.

(Oh, my members are invite only...)

Thanks! :)

Security, like you mention. However, I have not really have heard of many people at all that have had their FTP traffic eavesdropped on before.
