orange image is an optional image for black boards (was requested a while ago), as for the comment image. That one shows up in the notification if someone is on a page other than the last page and the topic is still live it shows up, and tells the user that someone has responded and the topic is live.

this is in the pipeline :), I want to make sure that all major issues have been fixed first.
Great. Do note that it is not wise to install your hack on an active board, without limiting it to certain usergroups. I am afraid that my board would crash, if I'd install it on my live board now. So I will be waiting on that function with much anticipation.
You are really creating a very cool hack. Members will quickly grow attached to it. I hope that you plan to port this hack to vb4 when that comes out in next quarter.

Why would you set the max posts lower than the page fold number?
As for the 0 opt I can easily fix that in the next version. 20-30 is the ideal setting

Only for Testing Purposes, (you know that we users like to Test Everything on Applications:rolleyes:); at first I tried with a Bigger Number than the Max Number of Posts Set on the Forum, but the Described Errors Occurred, so I Decided to Document the 3 Tests (Scenaries) so that you can Reproduce them, (for Big Numbers as well as for Small Numbers on the Max Posts Option, the Error Triggers as Described on Tests). ;)
My Best Regards, Coders Shack.
:)
removed eval for the tracking call, if you dont want me to track the install you can comment that line out on the xml (its harmless though, just a numbers thing ^_^)
i applaud this, been playing around with live topics quite a bit now. If used right it could be a very powerful tool.
Keep the updates coming, i could very well see this becoming a core feature of vB thou, it is such a fun gimmick (if used right).

I think its time to Ask what will happen if I set to Zero (0) the Milisecs to "Request Interval" and also the ones to "Thread Idle Time" and to "User Idle Time"?? :confused: (Will it Generate any Mod Error and/or any Server Error? :confused: )
What does the Code on the Mod do on those 3 Cases? :confused:

I installed and only see live topic in VB Options, and a live topic gif added to some threads. But when I go into that thread I just see a quick reply box like normal, No ajax. Is there a switch to turn it on?
I uploaded one by one each file into the correct folder on my forum.

Is this a typo in the instalation instructions?
Then go to your admincp and install the product ('product-livevideo.xml')
I tried uninstalling and importing again but only get the small gifs attached to the threads. No ajax is present. I also disabled every other product to see if this would work but nothing happened.
Are the new files missing something 1.06 ? I am using 3.8.1
Mods:
MGC Chat
AME 2.5
Groan hack
Thanks hack
Cyb advanced stat
Cyb Visitors
IPB arcade 2.68
VB portal
Limited Guest Viewing
all were disabled and still nothing but a gif attached to the thread.

Ok so you are saying if I am viewing the thread that is live, I dont click anything and others posts will appear?
If this is so, it is not happening. When I post a quick reply , then their new posts will show . you are saying like it is hands free ajax style? Not so.
I thought this mod was going to floor me:eek:
I am still hoping that I am missing something:(
I have seen a few others post that they see nothing also.
Tryed it with another member in real time and we noticed nothing ajaxy about it.

After reviewing his first video, It is definetly not working on my board. The magical part is when the other users posts fades into your screen without you doing anything. The magical ajax is not working for me. Can I get some help?
When checking version I get this: Version check failed. No version number was found at this location. The URL for the version check may be incorrect, or the server may be experiencing problems. Please try again later.Thanks

For You to See the New Postings the Thread Should be Alive First.
Do the Following Test in Your Computer With 2 Account One in FireFox and the Other in Google Chrome, Browsers:
1. Enter the Last Page/Post of a Thread with First Account and Post a Reply. That'll Make the Thread Live.
2. Enter the Thread with Second Account (and different Browser as mentioned before) and Post a Reply or a Quick Reply. (You Should Enter Only After Posting with the First Account, so that the Thread can be Active/Live).
You Should See on the First Account, Right After the Post You Made to Activate (Make Live) the Thread, the Post Made with the Second Account.
By Know you've made the Most Basic Test You Can Make to Check if the Mod is Working without Conflic with Any of the Mods You Have.
3. If You Continue Posting on Any of the 2 Accounts You'll see on the Other, at the End of Las Post the New Post made.
If You Browse on one of the Accounts to Another Page, and You Post a Reply with the Other Account You'll See on the Bottom Right of the Window a Small Message that Says that a New Post has been Made.
4. I forgot to mention, you should Check ig you have one of the Mods that are in Conflic with this Mod, (Check the First Post of this Mod), like the "Topic of the Week/Month"; if so, I can only point you to a Solution I made for the Conflict with the "Topic of the Week/Month" Mod. ;)
From your List I have Almost All the Mods You Mention Installed, Except for the ones "VB portal" and "Limited Guest Viewing", and "Cyb Visitors" (that last one I have it Installed but not Active, but I don't think that should interfere with this Mod because it doesn't work at the level of Posts/Postbits).
5. If you make the Tests and you Find that the Mod isn't Working for You, Try Disabling One y One the Mods "VB portal" and "Limited Guest Viewing", and making the Test specified on Points 1 and 2, and it should work.
Remember to Report Which Mod Caused the Conflict so that Coders Shack can Include it in the List of Mods that Cause Complete Conflict with this One.
(I already Reported the Mod of "E-mail Popups", but that one interferes only with the Hiding of the Old Posts, Not with the Appearing of New Live Ones).
My Best Regards.

I Have a few Questions for Coders Shack, because I detected Activity After the Thread was supposed to be Dead when Leaving the User when the Thread was Alive:
Question 1: I can see that if I make Second Account go to another Page of the Thread while it's still Alive, and wait until the Thread goes Dead (after the time specified for it to be Live), and then when I Post a Reply with First Account, I can see the Bottom Right Message that Alerts about a New Post being Made. Is this Normal Behaviour of the Mod? :confused: (seems like on that case the Mod still looks for New Posts Being Made on the Thread when you're in another Page of the Thread, and a Loss of Resources on a Thread that Went Dead).
Question 2: I can see that if I make Second Account Enter to another Page of the Thread when it's Dead, and then when I Post a Reply with First Account, I can see the Bottom Right Message that Alerts about a New Post being Made. Is this Normal Behaviour of the Mod? :confused: (seems like on that case the Mod looks for New Posts Being Made on the Thread when you're in another Page of the Thread, and a Loss of Resources on a Thread that Went Dead).
Question 3: I can Still See Sendind/Receiving Data on my Computer each X Seconds (X is the Numbers of Second Specified for this Mod to Check for New Posts), when I Leave a User on a Topic while it was Alive and After the Thread Becomes Dead. Is this Normal Behaviour of the Mod? :confused: (seems like on that case the Mod looks for New Posts Being Made on the Thread when you leave a User while it is Alive, and a Loss of Resources on a Thread that Went Dead).
I think that Perhaps there is a Behaviour that You Should Study on the Code:
- When the Thread Becomes Dead, Why is it Still Sending the Checkings for New Posts being made when the User is in another Page of that Thread, and Report the New Posts being made Only if You're on Another Page of that Thread, (if you are in the Last Page of the Thread, it Checks for those New Posts but it Doesn't Report them because the Thread went Dead, but if you were in another Page besides the Last one, then it'll Alert you as I mentioned before), so seems like this Loss of Resources is Caused by the part of the Code that Alerts about New Posts being Made when You're in Another Page of the Thread while it is Alive and Leave your User there without Leaving the Thread. :confused: (I'm guessing, you're the one that knows the Code, but check and You'll see that the Activity Continues (Sending/Receiving Data on the Connection Status the one with the 2 Computers in it on your Windows).
Seems to me like it shouldn't be that way, and that when the Time Passed after the Y Minutes You Specified for a Thread and/or an User to be Live, the Code should Stop Making the Calls for Checking for New Posts. :confused:
My Best Regards.

Try Making the Checkings for New Posts for 15000 or more miliseconds and not the 3000 suggested. You'll be reducing your loads to the server to 1/5 or less than the original setting. ;)
Also you can reduce the time a Thread and a User is Live, from the 5 Minutes (300 seconds) to less than that, and check your Server Loadings.
(Remember to Report your Results here for all to Know ;)).

I don't Think This Mod Saves Server Resources If the Check Times Are Too Close (3 Secs - 3000 Milisecs), But If You Choose Wider Times (15 Secs - 15000 Milisecs, 30 Secs - 30000 Milisecs), perhaps you'll Not Overload Your Server and Still Offer Users that Extra Service of Live Topics.
Also You Can Choose Smaller Times for Threads and Users to be Consider Live, Not the 5 Minutes (300 Seconds) but Perhaps 3 Minutes (180 Seconds).
(It's an Idea).
But I Hope Coders Shack Read my Bugs Reports and the Tests I made, because if an User Stays on a Live Topic on a Different Page than the Last One, the Mod Continues Checking for New Posts even if the Thread Got Dead, Perhaps some Checking on the User's Side Is Not Working Fine or Missing, because those Extra Checks from Users on Threads that are Suppose to be Inactive can Cause Unnecessary Server Load (and that Should Not Exist because the Thread is Not Live). :confused: And Also the One I Reported About the Bug on the Hide Old Posts on Page that is Not Working Ok, because it Gets Stuck and Stops Users Replies to be Seen by the User that Post them. :confused:
But this Mod is Very Interesting For the Live Updating of the Threads, Like in Chat, I Hope Coders Shack can Find ways to Optimize it and Correct those Little Bugs so that Server Load can Keep Optimal even on Very Busy Threads and Forums. ;)
My Best Regards. Can't Wait to Install and Test the Next Update of this Mod. ;) :up:

hah....well if it helps, the variable is called "threadedmode" and if you look that up in showthread.php, there's some idea of how vB uses it...i believe it's a lookup of the $vbulletin->userinfo['threadedmode'] variable and it's basically a "3" for "Linear - Newest First" and "1" for the standard "Oldest First" post order.
hope that helps?

When someone makes a correction to a post, it comes up as a single post with a message that the post had been altered. It will do this while ppl are using/typing in the quick reply, interrupting it and whatever you have typed gets lost. This has been such a problem that my members started a poll to have the Live Thread mod removed.

The file name is: animation-min.js. So it's clientscript/yui/animation/animation-min.js.
I went ahead and let it overwrite because I wanted to get the installation done and figured I could always re-upload the original if the overwrite screwed anything up. But it is not working. It just works like a regular forum thread with no immediate update and I have an error notice at the bottom:
Error On Page
Line: 8
Char: 4570
Error: Object Required
Code: 0
Would appreciate any help. Think we're gonna love it if I can get it working. Thanks.

ok, 37 pages on this mod alone, makes it hard to find info so I will ask this questions.
Are there any issues with double post prevention modes, in particular:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=203705&highlight=doublepost
Any perhaps if the mod creator could put a summary of FAQ into the opening post to make is easier for people to get info.

This file wasn't in your folder?
It came in the zipped file with the product. In the upload folder there is a folder called clientscript / then within that, a folder called yui / then within that, a folder called animation / then within that folder, a file called animation-min.js. So in your zipped file I got this file: upload/clientscript/yui/animation/animation-min.js.
That file already existed in my vbulletin files so it asked to overwrite, which I allowed. I looked and don't find that file residing in a duplicate location.
The other javascript file "livetopic.js" is in the clientscript folder on the server, which is where it was packaged in your zipped file. It does not reside elsewhere either.
So I don't see any duplication. But it is not working in either IE or Firefox.

Ok, but I still don't know why it is not working for me in either IE or Firefox. IE tells me there is an error on the page and new posts do not show unless the page is refreshed, which I believe is the opposite of the intended purpose for this. So . . . ?

I'm willing to try that just for the sake of testing the theory. But if that's what it takes to run this, then I probably won't because I have many mods installed and running as an integral part of our forum.

I'm willing to try that just for the sake of testing the theory. But if that's what it takes to run this, then I probably won't because I have many mods installed and running as an integral part of our forum.

he doesn't mean that this is incompatible with everything. You probably have 1 conflicting modification.

Yeah, I was only suggesting this to see if it was a mod incompatibility thing. If turning off the mods doesn't 'fix' this, then it is probably some server configuration that is causing the problem.

I did this and got it working, so great suggestion. Thanks.
I was able to disable everything and then enable each mod one at a time until it stopped working again. I found I cannot have the "Topic of the Week" mod running with this.
But that's ok. I prefer this one and it works great now. Thanks for your help.

If you Check the Thread of this Mod for vB37x you'll find a Possible Solution (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1735288&postcount=92) I Proposed to Solve that Conflict with that Particular Mod and you'll be able to Use Both Mods, (if you use Topic of the Week/Month to Nominate Topics of the First Posts which means to Nominate the Thread and Not Particular Posts). ;)
I think Coders Shack that It'd be Nice if you Include a Link to This Particular Post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1735288&postcount=92), on both Threads (vB37x and vB38x), it seems like some Users are having that Conflict and are Reporting that the Mod Don't Work without Checking Your First Mod and also if they Check it perhaps they don't Read Nor Search the Entire Threads of the Mod for vB37x and vB38x to Find This Solution (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1735288&postcount=92) to That Particular Conflict. ;)

I?m grateful for all efforts to get these two mods (Topic of the Week/Month and Live Topic) working together! :) Unfortunately one feature of the former mod - to nominate any post, not only the first one - is the most frequently used on my forum. As far as I caught it, the Topic-mod will not function with the nomination-stamp in any posts besides the first one.

The Mod Topic of the Month will work but the only restriction will be the Display of the Nominated/Winner Stamp on top of the Posts, besides the first one.
There is something on the Code that you saw Edited (on the Plugin) and on the Template that is Used by that Plugin, that causes the Conflict with this Mod.
Hey, Coders Shack, could you provide a Solution Code Similar to the one you have for the Prevent DoublePost Mod, that can Block the Action of that particular Part of the Plugin so that it doesn't work on Quick Replies, allowing your Mod to work fine, but yes on other cases? I think that'd be the Real Solution, and not only for that Mod but for all the others that are in Conflict with your Mod. ;););)
I'll be waiting for your Opinion on this.
My Best Regards.

hmm, so just edits? (weird, ill look into this asap)
Yes. At first I assumed it was because of another mod that prevents double posting. I removed that mod completely (literally reverse install) and then reinstalled Live Thread. It did not change. Any edits done to a post pop up like a single post with the message that it had been changed. You have to refresh to get back to the thread.
I cant say that this isnt caused by a conflict with another mod. I have a gaming forum and those are rife with drama so I have a lot of mods that prevent disgruntled former members from being a pain in the ass. None of my mods were on your list though. Here are the ones I am using, just in case that would help you.

Coders Shack, I've just Tested Your Solution for the Conflict with the DoublePost Prevention Mod, and Works Really Well. :up:
for double post in the plugin titled "Main Doublepost Prevent Engine" look for this line:
// last step update counters
above it add these two lines:
$vbulletin->db->query_first("UPDATE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "post` SET `lastedit` = UNIX_TIMESTAMP() WHERE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "post`.`postid` = $id LIMIT 1");
$vbulletin->db->query_first("UPDATE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread` SET `lastedit` = UNIX_TIMESTAMP() WHERE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread`.`threadid` = $threadinfo[threadid] LIMIT 1");
I Liked a Lot the LIVE Edit Message that Appeared on the Merged DoublePost:
"This post has been added by another user
Since this is an active topic, this post has been automatically added to the thread while you were reading it. If you are replying to this thread you might want to read this post before doing so."
I also noticed that this Message Appears on a Live Topic Every Time an User Edits a Posted Message that is on the Current Page Viewed, so that way the Other Users can Read the Changed Post before Posting their Message. :up:
My Best Regards, Coders Shack. ;)

It looks like you didn't install it correctly. But, anyway, to disable the plugins so you may login to your site - edit config.php and add this line right under <?php
define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

edit includes/config.php
add this to the top of the file so it looks like this:
<?php
define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);
then save the file and you'll be able to log in again and reverse/uninstall what you last did.

You need to Edit the Plugin named "Main Doublepost Prevent Engine".
Admin Control Panel -> Plugins & Products -> Plugin Manager
There you find the Plugin, you Click "Edit", add the Code line where instructed, and Click the "Save" Button.

1) conflicting mods
2) conflicting layout
I have noticed it to be more of a conflicting mod kind of thing though. I'm going to try crank out a version today for you guys that fixes most of the mod compatibility issues or provide compatibility solutions for the popular mods.

THIS IS FOR gXboxLive COMPATIBILITY
ADD A PLUGIN
Product: gXboxLive
Plugin Name: "gXBL: Ajax"
Hook Location: newreply_post_ajax
Plugin PHP Code:
$hook_query_fields .= ", gxboxlive.rank AS gxblrank, gxboxlive.gamertag AS gxblgamertag, gxboxlive.score AS gxblscore";
$hook_query_joins .= "LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "gxboxlive AS gxboxlive ON (user.userid = gxboxlive.userid)";
FIX A PLUGIN (plugin name "gXBL: Links")
you will notice a line like this:
$t = str_replace( $s, $s . '\n' . $vbulletin->templatecache["gxbl_postbit"], $vbulletin->templatecache["postbit_legacy"] );and a line like this
$t = str_replace( $s, $s . '\n' . $vbulletin->templatecache["gxbl_postbit"], $vbulletin->templatecache["postbit"] );
the developer was incorrectly interfacing with the plugin hook system... because of this you will have to manually add the template edit.
but before you do that comment these lines out in that plugin:
$t = str_replace( $s, $s . '\n' . $vbulletin->templatecache["gxbl_postbit"], $vbulletin->templatecache["postbit_legacy"] );
$vbulletin->templatecache["postbit_legacy"] = $t;
$t = str_replace( $s, $s . '\n' . $vbulletin->templatecache["gxbl_postbit"], $vbulletin->templatecache["postbit"] );
$vbulletin->templatecache["postbit"] = $t;
after thats fixed go to the postbit template your using (postbit or postbit_legacy) and find the hook you wanted to use (postbit_userinfo_left, postbit_userinfo_right_after_posts, postbit_userinfo_right, postbit_signature_start, postbit_signature_end) find the location and under or before it place this:
<if condition="$show['gxblrank']"><div><a href="gxboxlive.php?gt=$post[url_gxblgamertag]" onmouseover="gXBL_show('gamercard','$post[url_gxblgamertag]');" onmouseout="return gXBL_hide();">$vbphrase[gxboxlive_title]</a>: <if condition="in_array($post['gxblrank'], array("1","2","3"))"><img class="inlineimg" border="0" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/gxboxlive/silk/award_star_<if condition="$post['gxblrank'] == '1'">gold<else /><if condition="$post['gxblrank'] == '2'">silver<else />bronze</if></if>_2.png" alt="$vbphrase[gxbl_rank]: $post[gxblrank]" /></if> $post[gxblrank]<sup>$post[gxblranksuff]</sup></div></if>

On My Board (vB37x) FireFox and Google Chrome Work Fine with Quick Replies and Normal Replies. ;) (I've Tested with 2 Users on my Computer with 2 Browsers Opened, FireFox and Google Chrome).
This Last Version has the Problem with Old Posts Hiding After X Posts, which I Described in one of my Posts on this Thread (or the vB37x Version). :(
I Think that Perhaps you're Describing One of the Following 2 Problems:
1. The Bug I Mentioned with the Hiding of Old Posts, because the Posts Aren't Shown on the User's Window but they Do on the Other User's Browsers; that After X Posts, as I Documented on one Post with some Tests I Made.
2. If you have the DoublePost Prevention, and You Haven't Applied the Solution Provided by Coders Shack to that Problem, it happens Exactly as You Described, because the Double Posts Merge but have the Conflict with this Mod in the Display of the Post Edit, which is Solved 100% with Coders Shack Solution and Displays Great the Post Edits.
If None of the Ones Before, perhaps could be a Conflict with Other Mod, you'll have to Disable them One By One until you Find the Conflicting Mod. Once You Find It Please Post the Conflict Here for All of Us to Know and If Possible Propose a Solution.
Also, Perhaps on the New Update that Coders Shack Mentioned for Version 1.07b, the Improvements on the Code would Solve the Problem You Mention, as Perhaps some of the Conflicts with other Mods will be Solved. We Have to Wait and Test the New Update. ;)

We Have to Wait and Test the New Update. ;)

You can Solve it just specifying a Big Number for Old Posts to Hide, like 100 or 200 Posts Per Page, or more, not the 30 Proposed; you can do that on the Mod's Options. ;)
Try that Before Installing an Old Version, Coders Shack Optimized the Code on latest Update, so I guess it should Load Less the Server than Old Versions, and Also Added some Really Good Extra-Features. ;)

You Should do That Until the Problem (Bug) is Solved to Solve Your Problem on the Live Quick Replies. (I Think and Hope that In The Next Update Coders Shack will Share with Us) ;)
Once the Bug is Solved you should set it to the Maximum Number of Posts you'd like your Users to See on the Live Page, (the Default of 30 Posts is a Good Number); actually is a Really Cool Feature (Coders Shack is a Great Coder, I Hope this Mod Win the Mod Of The Month Contest), and seeing the Old Posts Get Hidden is Really Amazing. :p

I already have and noticed that when I uncheck javascript enabled in FF, it works fine except I don't see the posts flash with the other browsers. Conclusion, FF sucks!
No, FF does things the "correct" way. Either the code sucks or the browsers that work correctly with this code suck.

The Error Bug in Post Hiding is Still There. :(
Edit: It Hides The First (Only One) Post and then it Stops Hiding Posts and it Stops Displaying the Posts Made by the User on His/Her Page, (but is Posted and Displayed for Others). :( :confused:
(I've set the Hiding Option to 7 Posts Per Page, and it did Hide the First like 2 o 3 Posts and then it Stopped Hiding Posts).
Edit: Something weird also Happened, for the User in the Other Window (Google Chrome), the First Post of the Page was a Post made by the User in FireFox, and I Edited the Message on FireFox so the Edited Message Appeared on Chrome; I Posted 7 Messages and then i noticed that the First Cell on Chrome Shadowed but the "Maximum Amount of Posts Have Been Reached" Message Didn't Appeared, and No Post Were Hidden (on FireFox the First One Got Hidden and No One More but in this Case No Post Got Hidden); could it be because it was a Edited Post with the Live Topic Edited Message in it? (a Conflict Inside the Same Mod, Live Topic Conflicting with Live Topic?:confused:)
I Hope You Can Fix This Bugs Coders Shack. ;)
(I don't know if the Other Bugs I Posts are Corrected). :confused:
Edit: I've checked the Bug You mentioned as Corrected and the Live Topic New Post on other Page doesn't Appear when the Topic went Dead (After the Time Set for it to be Live), and I didn't detected Connection Requests at the Interval of Time I've Set for Live Topic New Posts Checking, (Only what seems to be the Normal Checkin Requests of the Browsers and of the Computer, I Hope). :up:

This plugin's been great, but I'm getting a bunch of W3C validation errors. Things like:
vbphrase["livetopic_edit_message"] = "<img alt=\'live topic\' src=\'images/statusicon/thread_livetopic.gif\' title=\'live topic\'/> <span style=\'font-weight: bold;\'>This post has been added by another user.</span> <br /><br />Since this is an active topic, this post has been automatically added to the thread while you were reading it. If you are replying to this thread you might want to read this post before doing so.";
and
vbphrase["livetopic_newresponses"] = "%1 new responses (<a href=\'showthread.php?t=%2&goto=newpost\'>live topic</a>)";
are not W3C-compliant. These are easy things to fix, though - just get rid of the \ and stuff. You can use http://validator.w3.org/ to check the compliancy of your code.

i dont have this bug inciarco, 10 posts per page. And my livetopic setting is 30. When it goes over 30 they start to disappear. Have you tried it on the default template? Do you have something that conflicts?
Can you recreate this here: http://beasttoast.com/showthread.php?t=16009&goto=newpost
I Confirm Bugs On 100% New vB373 Installation:
I've Installed the Product (The First and Only Mod Installed on a Test Forum), and I've Set Number of Posts to 10 for Test 1 and to 20 for Test 2.
I've Used User 1 (Admin on IE6) and User 2 (Registered User on Google Chrome).
I Hope You Can Solve this Bugs, Coders Shack. ;)
TEST 1
AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Thread Display Options (showthread) > Maximum Displayed Posts Before Page Split: 10
AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Live Topic > Maximum Visible Posts: 10
I've Created a Thread and Named First Post as "Test Thread", then I've Started Posting Messages on the Thread, (the Live Posting Feature works Fine on IE6, FireFox and Chrome), then when I reached Quick Reply Number Nine (9), Post Number 10, then the First Post Got Shaded, and then when I reached Quick Reply Number Ten (10), Post Number 11, then the First Post "Test Thread" Got Hidden; then When I Posted Quick Reply Number Eleven (11), Post Number (12), then No Post Got Hidden and the Post weren't Shown for the Poster but yes for the Other User, and all other Posts after that had the same issue, (Not Displayed for Poster but yes for other Users seeing the Live Topic); I also Noticed that After Quick Reply Number 10, Post Number 11, the Quick Reply Box Got Again the Blocking Message "Please Click One of the Quick Reply Icons in the Posts Above to Activate Quick Reply".
TEST 2
AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Thread Display Options (showthread) > Maximum Displayed Posts Before Page Split: 10
AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Live Topic > Maximum Visible Posts: 20
It Happened Exactly the Same as for Test 1, but in this Case as Maximum Visible Posts was set to 20, when Reaching Quick Reply 19 (Post 20) the First Post Shaded, on Quick Reply 20 (Post 21) the First Post Got Hidden, and on Quick Reply 21 (Post 22) No Post Got Hidden, Quick Reply Box Got Locked (with message prompting for Clicking the Quick Reply Button on Posts), and No Quick Reply Post where Displayed for Poster User; all Posts after that had the same issue, that Post was Not Displayed for Poster, that No Post where Hidden, and that Quick Reply Box Gets Locked with Locking Message (the one that asks user to Click on "Quick Reply to this Message" Button on Posts).
Edit: TEST 3
I went Ahead and made the Test for 30 Maximum Visible Posts and the Results where the same as on the other Two (2) Cases.
AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Thread Display Options (showthread) > Maximum Displayed Posts Before Page Split: 10
AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Live Topic > Maximum Visible Posts: 30

Does someone here have this mod running with Paul M's Doublepost Prevention (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=203705&highlight=DoublePosts) ?
I think there is a conflict between both Ajax
I've tested the fix you suggested:
find the plugin titled "Main Doublepost Prevent Engine" look for this line:
// last step update counters
below it add these two lines:
$vbulletin->db->query_first("UPDATE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "post` SET `lastedit` = UNIX_TIMESTAMP() WHERE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "post`.`postid` = $id LIMIT 1");
$vbulletin->db->query_first("UPDATE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread` SET `lastedit` = UNIX_TIMESTAMP() WHERE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread`.`threadid` = $threadinfo[threadid] LIMIT 1");
But errors remains quite the same on IE7. No a big deal for registred users but for admin, every single post an admin makes cames back with a page error on IE7.
I know...I know... IE is a piece of junk as a matter of tracking errors like this but 80% of my users are IE.

Ok......... are you going to let me know which directory to place them in???
In the upload file there was an image folder, in the image folder where two folders, one name misc & one name statusicon
I put the misc image in /forums/images/misc & /forums/blak-ice/misc which is the styles folder.
I put the statusicon folder in /forums/images/misc & /forums/blak-ice/misc, but no change.
I took the images out of the statusicon folder and placed them in all 4 above locations, still no change. Perhaps I missed understood the install process, if you can help me, I would be greatly thankful.
Never mind, I figured it out. Thanks for your help anyway. I had to place the statusicon folder "intact" to the styles misc folder. Only now the text is black, almost same color as the forums, how to I change the color guys, I'm back to square one guys.

how would that even work?
lay it out...
user A is on the site (nothing happens because there's not enough)
user B is on the site (nothing happens because there's not enough)
user C is on the site (nothing happens because there's not enough)
user D is on the site (nothing happens because there's not enough)
user E is on the site topic is now active but user A, B, C, and D will not see anything because the topic was never active for them.

It's not easy to make a modification work with every other modification out there. Plus, the developer has a real job that takes time. I'll bet you haven't even added this to his bug tracker (nope, I just checked and you haven't).

If you are able, you may want to do some investigating yourself about the issue. Take a look at the video mod and see what sort of code it adds and where. Try applying the changes to the live topic mod and see if you can fix it and then post the fix.

Hello there. im going to use the live topic on my forum now.
But i have a request or and idea if you want to call it that way.
The idea is perfect. i love it.
Can you do the same but with the main page of the forum?
I mean not a single topic, but the entire forum.
I will try to xplain myself.
when you are in the main screen of your forum some one post something and you can see it live, a good idea would be to add a sound, like the one in facebook, so you know some one as posted something.
If you ask yourself why this would be usefull?
Well for me i spend most of my time in the main page of my forum clicking F5 to check on the new posts. ( im the admin and main moderator ).
Thanks for this addon thow :)

Like Lynne said, I have a real job and this is not part of it. I do this for pure fun, I am not obligated to support anything as you are not obligated to use anything i develop. This thread has 600+ responses, its not the most logical way to manage bugs/requests.
I'm trying to provide a quality addon, and i feel the best way is to have some sort of bug management system. I hope you understand.
I think your looking for vbispy search the mods its already been made ^_^

It isn't just you. I had forgotten all about that cuz I don't usually click on the username in a live post. At least View Public Profile and Visit Homepage are partially missing - the <a> tag isn't 'finished' and the phrase isn't there - note the lines in red:
<tbody><tr>
<td class="thead">xxxx</td>
</tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option vbmenu_option_alink" style="cursor: default;"><a href="member.php?u=9" linkindex="400"/></td></tr>

On larger threads... I think once we reach like 160-170 posts, you can no longer see your own post when you do a quick reply. Other people's post show up, and your post gets posted in the thread, but LT is doing something that is causing it to not actually show up on your own screen after you post. You have to refresh to see your own

I Think that is Related with the Bug of Old Posts Hiding.
I Quote the Temporary Solution Posted by Coders Shack a Couple of Pages Before, perhaps it might Help:
when i have time ill look into this one, so yea if anyone else has the same issue just make the maximum visible posts 100000 (this would turn it off).
(Coders Shack, Please also Remember for the Next Update of this Great Mod, the Bug on Internet Explorer 6 that Shows the Quick Replies on Any Page of the Thread instead of Displaying the Message that Says "X New Posts Live Topic"; I mentioned this a Few Pages Before).
By the Way, When do You Think You'll be Releasing Your Next Update of Live Topic? :confused:

I really like this mod and believe it represents the future of community software. Thank you for your time and efforts in this.
That said, I do have an issue to report. When I have Live Topic enabled on my site, it makes the posts seem to "wave" as you scroll down in IE7. It's a very annoying effect. That's the only browser I have tested other than Firefox which works beautifully. This could be seen while viewing any thread on the board. It could be a problem with my IE (imagine that), but I'm not sure what to check or do. I have disabled it for now.
BTW, our site isn't officially launched yet although it is opened, so we only have about 40 members and a few hundred posts.

thank you very much, i need this !
crazlunatic: I run a board with ~400+ users logged in at peak times, and rarely see load spikes above 0.2 (linux load measurement). I can't even say I noticed any difference after enabling the modification.
That said, I see some people report heavy load increase but IMO it's due to general bad server configuration and the problem is not so much the modification in itself.

Same here. I typically have that many people on and I haven't noticed a server load issue at all (running CentOS).
I can't say it's bad server configuration when someone is having load issues, but it may be. Or - It may be just someone on a shared server which simply can't handle the load. I do have dedicated servers for my web sites. I make a good living off my web sites so the last thing I want is load issues. If someone is paying US$10 bucks or something for a shared solution and they're having issues it may just be that they need to look at a different server solution. You get what you pay for. I pay about US$250 a month per server (that's with a RAID mirror, which came in handy on my main site about 2 weeks ago when a drive 'went south').

I do have dedicated servers for my web sites.I took for granted granted that every busy board run dedicated servers, but of course that's not always the case.
My point still remains valid tho. If someone runs a board which gets bogged down by this modification it's a clear signal that they should definitly change their hosting environment -- either by reconfiguring/performance tweaking or by a server change/upgrade/addition.

Just an idea (I haven't read this whole topic so pls don't shoot me if this has been suggested already) - how about when you're on the forum index, next to each forum name it tells you how many live topics are currently in each forum? That way ppl looking to have conversation wont have to click all over the forum trying to find threads that are currently live. Just an idea :)

I can confirm this bug....
It is happening pretty randomly but always involves threads that have more than 5 pages....
Can anyone else confirm this? It only seems to happen also once you sat in a thread for a while replying.

Since v1.0.7b it stopped working in our forum :-(. Earlier versions were working correctly (except too high load for our server). In forum it shows picture of live topic (so it means that mod is really enabled), but new posts are not appearing in threads, only after refresh of page. When I enable this mod, IE7 shows in every thread in Status Bar message "Error on page." Details are:
Line: 4910
Char: 148
Error: Unterminated string constant
Code: 0
URL: just URL of specific showthread.php page
In showthread.php line 4910 is last line of whole file where is only: ?>
When I disable mod, error message disappear. Any ideas to solve this issue please? vBulletin v3.8.2 (v3.8.1 was the same issue).

BUG REPORT
Your own posts will dissapear.... please can people test this and confirm so the author can fix this.
steps to reproduce:-
set your live posts per page to ten more than you show normally on thread pages. Eg. vB setting per page = 20..... live thread posts per page = 30.
Post a NEW thread.... get some other people in there too and just keep replying (DO NOT LEAVE THE PAGE). Once your screen overflows at 30 posts, you will see that your own replies do not show up at all - everyone else can see them and you can see other peoples, but you cant see new ones made by you.
Using the settings above this will happen at around post #32.
--------------------------------------------
Can others please confirm this bug???
Thanks

it was a question asking if Passive Video was compatable with Live Topic. Went back several times to see if there was an answer posted, even PM'd the coder. I even paid the $5.00 for the Passive Video, but have not yet tried it for fear of any issues. I really like LT and the first thing I check when I install new Mods is if it still works and if it doesn't I remove the offending Mod. I am a big supporter of LT, and it is my favorite Mod, bar none.

Lynne, again, no offence but this is listed as a *supported* mod, therefore I am sure the author not only follows this thread, but is grateful for the bug report - in fact probabally as grateful as we all are that he took the effort to make it in the first place.
This bug was so annoying, and seemingly random - myself and 4 moderators tested this for hours until we found the criteria gto reproduce... that allowed us to think of it as non-randomly occuring and report back here.
I am sure the author will support this in this thread and will be pleased this has finally been pinned down.

Set the Option "Maximum Visible Posts" of the Mod to 1000 because that Feature has that Bug, until Coders Shack can Share with Us a New Update with a Solution to it.

Few suggestions:
1.) Not a fan of the faded out posts. Would like to be less transparent.
2.) The problem with your own posts is still there.
3.) Select user groups who can use this feature. Would like guests to be able to experience it too.
readjono

4.) It seems like the user activity limit does go very high. I think users last ten minutes before it stops.
5.) Might be useful to look into a way of editing posts without it refreshing and losing the edits.

Tanx, its great.
but unfortunately, its not compatible with Advanced Quick Reply (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?threadid=180330) and its not work when we using Advanced Quick Reply (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?threadid=180330) to posting in threads.

Okay I just spent forever reading through these pages to see if someone had the same problem as me. There was one person who had the same thing happen, but that was on an early version and I guess some update fixed it for him
Anyways the problem is basic, apparently it works for everyone but me? I've made sure that I was counted as active by posting multiple times, and asking people to post...then when I refresh I see all the new posts. I tried it on Firefox and IE7. All the users are claiming it's cool and they like it, but what's it worth if I(admin) cant use it? :P
Anyone else had this issue?
Edit:
Now I've had users saying it works, some saying it doesn't. And it's not the browsers, because the people who have said it was working, and the people who said it wasn't, are all using FF.

^^ Perhaps you have a Conflicting Mod that is Activated for you as Admin and the Usegroups of the Users that say it doesn't work for them, and that is Not Activated (Usergroup Permissions set to No) for the Usergroups of the Users that Say it Work for them. :rolleyes:
Check the Mods that Act at Postbit Level (that Affect something on the Posts), such as Passive Video and other Mods Reported as Conflicting with this Mod in this Thread as well as on the vB 3.7 Mod's Thread.
That could be the Explanation of Why it's working for some Users and Not for Others, if they're Using the Same Browsers and Browser Versions.
(If it is Please Post what was the Conflicting Mod so that we Admins could also Prevent and/or Control it's Use). ;)
My Best Regards.

Also, remember to check your error_logs. And, if you have mod_security, check those logs also. I know I had a small problem between this mod and mod_security for only a handful of users and I found out what the problem was by looking at the logs.

Does anyone else have issues with this not working? I have uploaded everything to the correct place, I have left the settings as default. My Browsers aren't automatically showing posts. I am using 2 accounts on 2 browsers.
Main account = google chrome
Test account = internet explorer 7
it won't auto update. How many people have to be watching the thread?

I'm starting to think it's something on the computer level.
I disabled all mods but live topic, made sure I had the latest macromedia player and such, and then tested again in both FF and IE7, neither work still.
I bought this computer from newegg, and it came with the OS installed. At first I thought I was the main admin, but it seems there's some hidden original admin account or something. I have full admin privileges, but could this possibly be the problem?

I don't understand what the macromedia player has to do with this mod.
If you think it's your computer, try this on another computer. Or, if you installed this on a test site, ask your mods to test it out.

I guess it doesn't, thought I read that somewhere in the pages, bleh.
Anyways, I just went and tested on my other computer and it works fine, so it's definitely a computer thing, cause the browser was FF with the same addons as this comp.
I have a sneaking suspicion that it was what I mentioned earlier. I realize this isn't a computer technical help section, but I'm pretty sure this "hidden god admin" or whatever is what's ruining it for me, I think someone mentioned that earlier. Any way to fix it other than reformatting?

Hi, my postbit legacy has a lot of things displaying. Live topics being short, is there a conditional I could use to disable all the post elements while in live topic mode, so it only displays username? Otherwise I end up with a short reply with lots of empty spaces.
Thanks

For those using this on your forums..... Please read my posts here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1782508&postcount=714) and see if you can confirm this behavior - I think if this bug were not present then I would re-install because i love it.
Sadly, with this bug unfixed it's spoilt and not useful for busy boards.

The guy responded long ago. Rather than nag, just read the posts!!!
Solution was: Set Maximum Visible Posts to 1000
hm looks like that it doesn't work on Post Reply, only when you're doing Quick Reply ?
Is that supposed to be like that?

Coders Shack why you need to invent vbphrase variables in javascript?
Code in your php
<script type=\"text/javascript\">
var threadid = $threadinfo[threadid];
var ajax_last_edit = $threadinfo[lastedit];
livetopic.old_topic = ' . $vbulletin->options['livetopic_threadtime'] . ';
livetopic.interval_time = ' . $vbulletin->options['livetopic_requestinterval'] . ';
livetopic.ajax_max_visibleposts = ' . $vbulletin->options['livetopic_maxvisibleposts'] . ';
vbphrase[\"livetopic_maxpostnotice\"] = \"' . addslashes($vbphrase['livetopic_maxpostnotice']) . '\";
vbphrase[\"livetopic_edit_message\"] = \"' . addslashes($vbphrase['livetopic_edit_message']) . '\";
vbphrase[\"livetopic_newresponses\"] = \"' . addslashes($vbphrase['livetopic_newresponses']) . '\";
</script>
Generated this in html source
<script type="text/javascript">
var threadid = 12290;
var ajax_last_edit = 1240437167;
livetopic.old_topic = 300;
livetopic.interval_time = 3000;
livetopic.ajax_max_visibleposts = 30;
vbphrase["livetopic_maxpostnotice"] = "The maximum amount of posts on this page can display has been reached. Posts will now start to disappear from oldest to newest.";
vbphrase["livetopic_edit_message"] = "<img alt=\'live topic\' src=\'images/statusicon/thread_livetopic.gif\' title=\'live topic\'/> <span style=\'font-weight: bold;\'>This post has been added by another user.</span> <br /><br />Since this is an active topic, this post has been automatically added to the thread while you were reading it. vbphrase["livetopic_newresponses"] = "%1 new responses (<a href=\'showthread.php?t=%2&goto=newpost\'>live topic</a>)";
</script>
It is nonsense and useless to have vbphrase variables definition inside HTML source. These all is classified as HTML error from any HTML checker.

Yes, it does work with those two browsers (those are the two I do my testing on). You may have a modification conflicting with this one.
