The most recent version (v 4.0.2) for vBulletin 3.7.x also works on 3.8.x. It was just posted in this section so that people know it works on 3.8.

You have manually backup your old awards tables in the database and completely remove the old version of the Awards System including ALL file and template edits before you install this version. After it's installed you simply restore your awards tables into your database.

Is there any page included for example "awards.php" where will be showing all awards details?
You can access that page at http://URL TO YOUR FORUMS/awards.php

Alright. The latest version is uploaded.

The version scheme has changed. Currently, the same code-base works on both vBulletin 3.7 and vBulletin 3.8. However, with not knowing in the future if the same code-base will work 100%, the mods have been split up.

The newest build (3.8.1) has Member List Options, and a Version Information sectionin the AdminCP.

Read the release notes for the template edit for the Members List if you choose to use it.

I don't understand what all the award request options are for. Read the description several times and still don't get it. Can someone break it down for me?

Ex.

Also when I receive a PM for an award, it doesn't show the image but rather the path only.

images/awards/award_stargold.gif

and yes I did check to make sure bbcode and [img] was allowed. award images show fine everywhere else.

Sounds cool but I was thinking if people have any suggestions on how to use this in a way that is not kindergarten-style (like "YOU TOO CAN GATHER GOLD COINS ON THE TREASUREHUNT!!!!"), I cant figure one out!

Hello,

Thanks for continuing over this mod from the 2.1.4 version, finally upgraded today without a hitch :). I do however have a request, is it possible for the introduction of pages on the "My Awards" Tab in user profiles, as is implemented on the "Friends" tab? Basically, if you have more than say 10 awards, it breaks them down over pages, rather than causing the user to have scroll down a lot.

Great mod.

Unfortunately it doesn't work perfectly on my board. When I assign awards, I get a white page with some error about the compression of the admin file. The award is still assigned though, but PM's or e-mails aren't send...

Edit: Nvm, apparently some typo in the translated phrases of YAAS =/

you should code some new features for this like triggers, i'd love to see this developed more so that users can set automatically given awards when a certain parameter is met (for example a user reaches X posts, a user has logged on X ammount of times) heres a neat little list (ok i lied its rather big) of some triggers us admins would probably want to see (hey maybe even code a feature that will let us invent our own and share them):

User reaches X posts
User has been a member for X days/months/years
User has logged in X ammount of times
User has viewed a certain page
User has edited a certain field in their profile
User has gained X ammount of rep (+ive and -ive)
User has left a comment on someones profile
User has donated X (or bought subscription)
User has been promoted to new usergroup
User has X ammount of buddies/friends

i can probably think of tonnes more. if these were available i'm sure this mod would go far i'm pretty sure people would pay for features like this added.

It would be nice to be able to have awards automatically given out when a user reaches a certain post count / amount of time on the forum.

Just wanted to say thanks! I had the original? version of this installed for v2.x and am happy to add it back in now for 3.8. Great new options for placement but I was also hoping for some automation as suggested above.
NOTE: There's a misspelling in the phrases, says recieved instead of received... anyone as anal as me might want to fix that one.

I am still having the same problem as was in 3.7.3, 3.7.4 and also exist in 3.8.0 versions of vbulletin. i have the latest version installed.

everything seems to work fine except that when i allow the award listings to appear in the member list, it gives error. which i have posted already on number of occassions.

please do something about this error. by the way do other people face this error too?

Nadeemjp
01-19-2009, 12:36 AM
i also second the addition of automation suggested above. currently it is all manual and troublesome for us to go through member stuff again and again

I had that error way back when, as I recall 'hacknho' was the listed mod author then, and I was only able to fix it with his(her?) help. This time, I get no error showing in the members list, but I also do not get a listing of awards showing there.

My biggest request in the automation dept. involves member anniversary dates. I have members who have been around for 8+ years now, and I wish there was a way to indicate that, with an award that changes on their anniversary date. I do have a nice little system using Ranks that adds a star in the postbit for every 1000 posts, but some of the long-term members are pretty quiet. I wish I could reward longevity some way....

Oops. I really came here to say that sorting does not appear to work for me, as I understand it.
I wanted to only show one award in the postbit, since I have rather larger icons in use, and after I awarded bunches of people for various things, decided I wanted a defferent one to actually show. So I changed the sort order, assuming that would change the display, but no go... even the display orer in the admincp stayed the same.

We use this to nominate folks for outstanding posts on our site. What I'd like to see is the ability to nominate a post (I put the link to awards.php in the pull down menu in postbit_legacy) and have it snag the URL of the post as part of the message that's sent with the nomination. Doable?

Can I give the SAME award to a user multiple times? Meaning... I want to give out awards on my forums based on tournament results. There have been several hundred tournaments already, and I dont want to make an award for each tournament. I just want to have a general 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophy... that I can award multiple times... Is this possible?

a suggestion for future versions, if a user is awarded the same award more than once it'll show the image with (x2) or whatever the number of times that award has been issued to them for,

also maybe a grouping awards feature that catagorizes awards so members can have an awards showcase that has the options to filter out awards by catagory, for example:

Cometition awards
Forums achievements
Arcade Awards

which admins can add and remove catagorys and mass move awards into catagories to fit their style.

I just stumbled across this mod and wanted to ask the following - I'm using "Yet Another Award System 3.5 version 2.1.2" and it is running fine on 3.7.3, but I am about to upgrade to VB 3.8.

What do I need to do with this mod to upgrade the version I am currently using or is that not possible with this version?

To upgrade all you do is re-upload this new version and overwrite the old version and it should be fine, the only differenc between the versions are this one add a few features.

so upgrading from older versions is possible.

Download the zipfile of the mod. Upload all that is in the upload folder to the right ftp folders, as the are called. Everything in the "Images" folder goes to your images folder and so on. Then the three files that aren't in a specific folder go to your root.
Edit the templates as descibed in the "Member List Template Edit" text file. Then upload the xml. (Admin Cp --> Plugins and products - Manage products and at the bottom add/import product). That's it.

We give monthly awards (member of the month-type awards). Something useful would be an option to set an expiration date on award requests. Meaning, after a certain date, users wouldn't be allowed to request an award. It should be on per-award basis.

Question I was wondering if it is possible to have this mod installed and working two times on my forum.
I already have it installed to hand out awards which is cool. Love this mod.
But I wanted to use it for another purpose too. For another set of awards that are seperate from the first set and will show up seperately in post bit.
So I can have lets say awards Showcase1 and then an awards showcase 2 in seperate spots in postbit and profile.

Ours works just fine. I didn't add it to the members.php page, but it shows just fine in postbit as well as the user's profile.

I suspect it's an edit error if you're having issues in getting it to display properly. Double, then triple check your installation and template edits. I suspect it's an error within one of your template edits.

Ours works just fine. I didn't add it to the members.php page, but it shows just fine in postbit as well as the user's profile.

I suspect it's an edit error if you're having issues in getting it to display properly. Double, then triple check your installation and template edits. I suspect it's an error within one of your template edits.

Also.. When you gave the award to the individual, did you fill out the "issue reason" on the form?

Most likely an edit error, this mod works great - I'm helping out a friend and we just installed one of mine and this mod - it is working flawlessly on 3.8 and is more updated than my ranks mod so a great addition IMO especially w/ the different display styles in postbit etc.

Make sure you have awards setup and all the files uploaded correctly and like Biker_GA said above check your template edits for accuracy and none of you should be having any problems. I'm currently working on a site but when I get some free time I'll whip up a video... a few of those on the way already.

Just take your time and don't get frustrated so easily ;)

The problem with this mod is number of queries . It is better to reduce it using datastore or something like this

Yes, both issue reason and description show on awards.php. Guess it's not out of the question we both made the same mistake. Could be a conflicting mod, too. Or in my case, something left over from the very old version I thought I'd wiped out when I went to 3.5. Howell. Try try again! :)

I had some remnants of an old modification hanging around the forums long after I thought I'd removed it. Ended up blowing off the entire vBulletin installation and reloaded from scratch instead of going through each template and removing the offending code.

Well darn. I thought I had my problem figured out when I found this reference to hacknho in the xml file for awards showcase, but it actually came from the current package I downloaded, so I am partially stumped, still.

- (file:///C:/Users/Office/Documents/BackUps/Programs/YaAS%203.8.2/product-yet_another_award_system-3.8.2.xml#) <template name="awards_showcase" templatetype="template" date="1133206835" username="Cypher" version="">
- (file:///C:/Users/Office/Documents/BackUps/Programs/YaAS%203.8.2/product-yet_another_award_system-3.8.2.xml#) <if condition="$show['userawards']">

 $vbphrase[award_showcase] ($total_awards $vbphrase[awards])

<if condition="$vboptions[aw_showicon]">
$vbphrase[award_icon]
</if> <if condition="$vboptions[aw_showimage]">
$vbphrase[award_image]
</if>
$vbphrase[award_description]

$userawardslistbits

</if>
</template>

{blush} I do see now that I previously edited my userward_bits template to remove the description entirely, since it persisted in showing up directly under the issue reason in the profile instead of off to the right in the next row, after my initial installation. I had forgotten all about doing it, truthfully, until I went looking today. Guess I didn't want to take the time to figure it out properly at the time. So I don't have the same issue as KenFoster after all.

Is there a way you (developer) could add the functionality so medals are displayed in the postpit alphabetically? Or better yet, match the category display order?

In the Award System Settings there are options for display styles in the postbit.

The next thing I will be working on it adding point attributes to the awards since I see a lot of people are requesting it.

I've installed this and just love it, but I am having some problems which I'm sure is probably because I'm such a newbie at all of this. I would appreciate any basic (very basic) help anyone could give me.

1. I don't understand how my members can request an award, either for themselves or others. I've searched everywhere on my board and cannot find a a link or button or anything that would give them this ability. From what I've seen, the only way they can even know it exits is if they happen to see an award given to someone else in their postbit. But even if they do, there's still no way for them to request one for themselves or anyone else.

I have made a forum for Award requests and put the forum ID into the awards system settings; so there is a forum available, but how do the members post to it? (It's in the admin section of my board so only the staff can see it just as the forums for post reports and infractions are.

2. Perhaps I misunderstood, but isn't there supposed to be another page or module that you can add to your home page that shows all the members that have awards or something like that? That's what I thought this meant:

Front page
- Display awards list in with: Award Name, Description, Icon, Image, and Members who get each award.

I was actually searching for a way to allow forum members to nominate other users and saw your post; have you figured out a way to do that?

This is what I'd like to know as well!

Yeah.. I tell my users to just include the link to the post in their nomination. LOL

I know I must be missing something because I don't understand what link you mean that they should include in their nomination, nor do I understand how a member can nominate themselves or someone else....

If someone could tell me where in the world to find this "link", I too would like to add it to the drop down menu...but first I need to know where the link is or is supposed to be to start with lol

Please, could someone help me? Remember, I'm VERY new at this and need really basic one step at a time directions lol

Cindy - I'll see if I can help. :)

1) If I'm understanding correctly, you made a new forum for the awards requests, and you have the permissions set so that it is for your admin team. I believe that any posts that go in there from people requesting awards will be moderated - meaning that they will need to be approved (by a moderator of that form, or a SuperAdmin) before they are visible to other admin members.

2) Go to www.YourSite.com/awards.php (change the YourSite.com to your web site)

That page should let you view who has received an award, and (if enabled) it should have a "Request" link for each award.

Cindyl10

Yes and no, none of my regular members can see into that forum, only the staff can. The posts therefore don't need to be moderated since we're the only ones that can see them.

The point is though that none of my members have a link or button or anything anywhere to click on that would cause a thread to be posted in that awards request forum....

I went to:

http://www.fresh-hope.com/awards.php

like you said though and I'll I get is a 404 error:

The requested URL /awards.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

http://www.fresh-hope.com/

and the page to my board is here:

Glad you found the file! :) Sorry, I should have checked to see if you had your forums installed in a different place than your normal home page.

As far as the admin forum thing, I'm not sure that you have a choice. From what I've seen with other add-ons, if something forces a post to be made in a forum that they usually wouldn't be able to post in (like this would do), it automatically is put in "moderated" status. If that's okay with you, then I don't think you need to set anything else up, but you (or a moderator of that forum) would need to check and approve those posts/threads. If you find that annoying, you could more or make that "requesting" forum under a section that your members usually have permission to post in.

Do you know where to go to add in that Awards link, so your members can use it?

Biker_GA
04-20-2009, 11:46 PM
What you do is add a link to your postbit or postbit legacy pull down menu. Add a link that points to the awards.php file.

If you're using it as a "Post of the Month" nomination, your users will have to include the URL of the post they're attempting to nominate.

Here's the code I use:

$vbphrase[award]</phrase>

I don't have a post of the month, at least not yet, but have several different general awards. I would like to find a way for a member to click on a link to request an award for someone that would show me which of that members posts they were referring to, if you know what I mean. Probably very similar to your post of the month award. So could I still use that code only changing the words to say "request award" or something like that? thank you for your help!

Biker_GA
04-21-2009, 01:09 PM
When you create the phrase, you can name it anything you want. The code I provided above just pulls the text from the phrase for the link. :)

Unfortunately, you'll have to provide instructions to your users to include the URL of the post they wish to nominate on your site. Other than that, including the link in the postbit works very well.

Cindyl10
04-21-2009, 02:38 PM
oh ok, so if I use that code you gave me, just changing it to say something like "Request Award" then when people click on that persons username on one of their posts, it will generate a new thread requestiing an award for that person? And the person posting it can simply include the url to the post they think should get the award?

I'm sorry for repeating things like this, but I need to make sure I really do understand what you're saying. I've learned the hard way that often what I think someone is saying isn't the case at all lol

Also, could you please tell me how/where I go to insert that code you gave me? Again I apologize for needing so much direction here... I really do appreciate your help!

Biker_GA
04-21-2009, 03:13 PM
In your postbit or postbit_legacy template find:

<if condition="$show['search']">

<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[find_more_posts_by_x]</phrase>

</if>

After that insert:

$vbphrase[award]</phrase>

In Phrase Manager, create a new phrase called award. Associate the plugin with the award and insert the text you wish to appear when the phrase is called (such as "Request Award").

That's all there is to it. Just make sure your users know to insert the URL of the post they want to reference when submitting the award request. :)

If you only use one language, it might be simpler for you to avoid making a new Phrase, and just enter in the text you want it to say.

Using Biker_GA's code (Hi from MO!), here are the steps to do that (this is assuming that you do not have the Template Modification System installed). When/if you upgrade you will NEED to re-do these steps, since upgrading usually removes changes like this (hence the very popular Template Modification System).

1) In your AdminCP, click the + next to the Styles and Templates, and then click Style Manager. For the Style you are using (if you use more than one, you'll need to do this for each style), click the drop-down and choose Edit Templates.

2) You will see a long list of templates and template categories. Scroll down to "Postbit Templates" and double click on that line (there are two possible Postbit options).

3) You are using the normal Postbit (name on top of the post), rather than the Legacy one (postbit_legacy, which displays the name on the left side). So double-click on "postbit".

4) You will see a large block of code. Take care when editing. ;) I recommend immediately choosing the "Save in Template History" option and giving a name. That way, if you mess something up, you can revert back! Anyway, in that box, do a search for:

</if>There is that nifty "find" box at the bottom, or you can use your browser's normal search function. You might want to search for "find_more_posts_by_x" for ease of typing!

When you find that code, make a few new lines under it, and add this code there:

Request Award for $post[username]</phrase>

Just to make sure, the code should now look like:

Cindyl10

<if condition="$show['search']">

<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[find_more_posts_by_x]</phrase>

</if>There is that nifty "find" box at the bottom, or you can use your browser's normal search function. You might want to search for "find_more_posts_by_x" for ease of typing!

When you find that code, make a few new lines under it, and add this code there:

Request Award for $post[username]</phrase>

Just to make sure, the code should now look like:
<if condition="$show['search']">

<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[find_more_posts_by_x]</phrase>

</if>

Request Award for $post[username]</phrase>

Click Save and go check out a post (you might need to refresh in your browser - F5).

Thank you Elenna! Yes, I only use one language!

My third attempt at getting some support. What exactly do I need to do to get your attention? It's a simple question. Is there way to widen the Name/Description column.

If so, please point me to the file that contains the code I need to change.
If not, and there is no way, please ffs let me know. Waiting a month for an answer including a reminder post, is not what I'd call any sort of support.

As you can see here in this awards display, it would look much better if descriptions were not word wrapped after a few words. The column needs to be wider. Have a look: http://www.hammerfistclan.com/forum/awards.php

The problem is in the mod source. The author "hardcoded" usage of (now deprecated, but that's not the point) mysql_insert_id(). But vB can use both mysql and mysqli API. And when you switch vB to new mysqli API, the problem appears:

mysql_insert_id() is called without parameters, so it's supposed to take last opened mysql connection (opened from "old" mysql api)
but there is no mysql connection, all connetions were opened by mysqli api
"no worries!", says php, "we make new connections", so it tooks db credentials from php.ini and tries to make new connection
but credentials in php.ini are usually empty, therefore the connection fails and mysql_insert_id() fails with it

Solution? I don't want to be rude, but hardcoding 1 api when vB is capable of running of 2 different APIs isn't the cleanest way. The cleanest way would be to use vB's build-in class and call some *insert_id() wrapped (if exists) or to dig the mysql(i) link object from vB's classes and use it directly in consideration of selected mysql API in vB conf. Or perhaps something better :) There are always many solutions to those kinds of problems.

But it's nice mod, anyway :)

If you're seeing vBulletin Options, you're in AdminCP. ;)

awards.php is the file that allows you to request an award. You should also see a catergory called "Awards System" on the left side of the screen in AdminCP. This allows you to create awards that can be requested.

I've rated this mod as EXCELLENT.

May I make a suggestion?
Currently, if you award the same medal to the same user multiple times, it will display the medal images multiple times. Is it possible to make it to display the medal only once, and under that medal, you can state awarded x number of times, and list the award reason each time...

Something like this on the thread display file and the user profile page:

This was posted a while ago, but others (I did), might have the same question.

You have to do a search for the phrase you want to edit. The links in the control panel don't work. So open the Phrases and languages section, put in some matching text and search. It'll return what you want to change, then click edit.

You can not take this modification and claim it's yours when it isn't. To even think you could do so is just plain wrong.

What you CAN do is use snippets of the code to develop your own modification.

If you're showing two awards in the postbit, check the postbit template and make sure the edit was done exactly as shown.

It's all in the placement within the template. Find where the code for the last tab ends, then place the awards code after that.

Hi. It´s possible hide or remove the "Recipient username" box in the award request form?

When "Recipient username" box is blank doesn´t allow you to complete the form.

PS: very useful addon. Thanks.

Can I get some support here? I like this mod, but if I can't get 2 little questions asked, I will be forced to uninstall it.

1. Which template can I edit to set the "My Awards" profile tab so it's not the first one, maybe like the 3rd or 4th.

2. Where are the permissions to request awards? Right now only admins can do it. And when I [an admin] go to do it, I fill out the forum, and it says error, please contact an admin.

So, at least help me answer #1, please.

1. memberinfo_block_myawards (It wasn't THAT difficult to find.)
2. Have you checked your permissions via Usergroups?

If you remove the recipient username, how do you know who the award is requested for?

Did you even check the award settings? There's an option to move the award tab to the right. Go to vBulletin Options, Award System Settings. No need to modify templates at all.

Hi there
thanx for this grate hack.
I was wondering if it is possible to add the award manually in the post bit ??
I have a postbit_legacy layout like this:
1st post is horizontal and the rest are vertical and it shows like this

http://www.hailzone.net/upload/uploads/images/hail-a81351a76f.jpg (http://www.hailzone.net/upload/uploads/images/hail-a81351a76f.jpg)

as you see it made a large gap if put manually it will show only in the in the postbit reply area.

All is fine except one thing, when I go to awards.php

I get a blank page with this:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare construct_depth_mark() (previously declared in MYURL/board/awards.php:98) in MYURL/board/includes/adminfunctions.php on line 1832

anyone know how to fix this :S

What? The template?

AdminCP -> Styles and Templates -> Style Manager

Edit the template for each style that you use.

Hello,

I have a problem regarding this plugin. When I have a large amount of awards, all of them are shown in one page, which takes time to download the page. Is there any option to let some amount of awards in one page and the other in the next pages ?

The page I mean is this:
http://localhost/vb/awards.php

Thanks ..

Hi there, I installed it as I should (that means uploaded and installed the script and uploaded the upload-folder...)

But no "Award manager" in my admin list, why's that?
I use VB 3.8.2, maybe some other mod is in the way? Any know mods that ++++s with this?

Thanks for any answer : )

well... i've looked hig & low, and at one point before the hack i found it but so far i can not find it in postbit_legacy, postbit and/or postbit _first (last one adds a top 10 poster list to the main forum index)

I'll dig around. I found the template where the phrase is defined/called, but you're correct, it's not in the postbit template. I suspect it's a .php file and it's called to be placed at the hook at the end of the postbit template.

Is there anyway to make awards auto issued once a members usergroup is changed to Mod, S Mod, Admin or by reaching a certain amount of posts, having been joined for set amount of years etc.

After a while manually adding these awards is tiresome

Style manager -> <Your Style> -> Edit Templates -> Click on the "<< >>" for expand all groups > Edit awards_category

Add width for first column and edit width for second column for example like this:

For the expand first column FIND:

$vbphrase[award_name] / $vbphrase[award_description]

and add WIDTH value (or just replace row with this one):

$vbphrase[award_name] / $vbphrase[award_description]

and for width correction FIND:

$vbphrase[users_with_awards]

and just edit the value to the "100% minus [your first column width]", like this:

$vbphrase[users_with_awards]

(100-20=80 :D )

OR you can use fixed values, it works tooo :p

Save and enjoy :)

Hope it helps :)

First of all I'd like to say this is a GREAT product! Now I know there is a way to make the awards automated using Cron Jobs and Scheduled Tasks but I haven't got a clue, does anyone have any idea? more importantly if anyone can do this for me I don't mind paying them!

This has probably been asked, but is there a way to give an award to user id #'s 1-100?

Or to a certain usergroup?

It's obviously a conflict with the other add on. You'll have to decide which one to keep.

It'd be a simple moving a bit of the template around.
Either postbit or postbit_legacy
