Problems with trhee scripts

My hosting company (ixwebhosting), the worse probably out there in customer service, just informed me( two days after the site was shutted down and me placing ticket after ticket) that three scripts are overloading their servers, 90% of their cpu, dual core xion. Those scripts are/in those files:


Showthreath.php
Image.php
Attachment.php


They won't help me out with this since they informed me that yes, THEY installed my site one month ago and charged 300.00 bucks but now the responsibility is all mine. I have no idea what to do, my site is down, they MAYBE put it back in order for me to work on the Admin CP (if I do need to) but as soon as the site starts to overload again they will shut it down. Basically I'm in a loop, w/o knowledge on how to fix this and If I can fix it thought the FTP or my forum files or if I have to have the site up in order to fix it.

Please guys help me out here, what can be causing overloading regarding those files?. I asked the guy if it was a problem of bandwith, he says no, but everything with that company is just plain dificult, they have a bad actitud so I'm kind of along with my problem, as I say they didn't even informed me about the problem, I called 6 times and finally I could of find out what was going on. He says something about maybe something is running on a loop (that's chinesse to me). Please help me!.

BTW. As now the site hasn't being reinstalled as promissed.

Do you have modifications related to attachments installed?

Default vBulletin doesn't cause that much server load, else nobody would be using it so the problem probably lies with your modifications.

Please talk to me as if I were a dummie, what are modifications? I have done nothing b/c I don't know how to do it. I have just installed some mods and plugins (prevent double posting/smilies/avatars) upload, unzip, upload, done and I have never installed a single one that required modifications to the files or tables (i think is the name).

The guy who used to be my webmaster installed a lot of plugins and stuff and sometimes the CPU was trough the roof when I have a dedicated server, that's true, but once in a blue moon, now how can I know where to find the problem?.

If I can see that in other place please enlighted me, i'm depending completely on you guys now, I have a huge problem apparently that I don't know how to fix.

You need to be able to see the modifications you have installed. The only way that you could do it would be to view them in the AdminCP > Plugins & Products > Product Manager

Do you remember if when you would go into a thread and there was an image attachment, did you see the image or would it just look like a regular attachment (like when a text file is attached)? If it is an image, then one thing to do is make it just show as an attachment and if people want to see it, they click on it. Otherwise, everytime someone opens a thread, the server has to serve up the image.

Hi Lynne and Opserty.

They reinstalled the site, I don't know until when, hope the server wont go overload too soon, anyways, attachments wise. I see a smaller picture version in a sort of box that says miniature image. What about the other files they say I have problems in? image and showthreath?.

I copied the pluggins installed right now on the forum, sorry about the mess I will probably cause but if you are so kind to take a look and see what do you believe is wrong. If you want to take a look inside my site I'll give you full access, I need to fix this before the company close the site again for overloading.

Looking at the three pages you listed - showthread, image, and attachments - I am thinking that your problem has to do with users viewing images. You have a couple of modifications that deal with images, but I am unfamiliar with either of them. I'm not sure what vB Image Hosting does, but it doesn't sound like it would be good for a site that is having problems (hosts images on your own server? Yep, just looked it up.) I think that would be one of the first I would dump to see if things improve. However, to be honest, I have no idea how you would go about seeing if things are better when you are on shared hosting. What are you supposed to see if things are better? Just that your host doesn't turn off your site? Can you monitor server loads? Look at queries per page? You might want to view access_logs to see if you can pick something out, but really, I don't know.

Thank you Lynne, I will turned the vB image hosting down, I don't use it anyways, what it does is every member have the right to a certain amount of pictures hosted there with a watermark, I don't know if the members are using it or not but I have not seeing any of those pictures posted in the forum, however the file could be up to the roof b/c I don't know if people are storaging picture there. I'll turned off. Everything else your are telling me I just don't know how to do it and where to look at it but even if you tell me I won't know how to "read" that info, I used to have a webmaster, not anymore. :( Will you (or somebody else) look into my site, please?

BTW. Actually there are only 13 pictures hosted on vB image hosting, I don't think that's the problem, however I will turned off.

Sorry, but I don't know that I could do anything for you either. When it comes to server stuff, I know the basics and how to do some troubleshooting, but I leave the real server stuff to this poor kid (yes, I can call him a kid cuz he's my kids age!) I hire.

Disable all your modifications for a while and see what your host says about the server load (ask like after a day or two). That way will know whether it is the modifications or normal vBulletin that is causing the problem.

Honestly I don't know what to do b/c they will let my site up for a short period of time only, they have my forum and Im on their hands, I feel hopeless, they wont fix it and they wont allow me to fix it either.

Since your site is down, take some time to read the thread for each modification you have installed. See what sort of problems people have posted about. See if anyone has brought up an issue of an increase of server load due to the modification. Some coders mention right in the first post that the mod adds queries to the page. That's a good one to disable. If it adds no queries, then you can probably leave it for now. If it has to do with images, disable it. Images are usually large and if you are constantly uploading them or users are downloading them (and if they are seen inline in your showthread, then anyone who views the thread is downloading it) then that increases the server load.

Thanks Lynne, I did read the link and I took off some mods etc, except for the hybrid/tree showtrheath, I can't stand the tree version and my members do not undesrtand/like it either.

The site is up, the company has being a little bit more supportive as I did get with a great guy in there, lets see for how long it does works. I even took off Nicks Forum Announcement, not that I think it will overload the server but I just don't know, Nick's is an HTML intro for the forums. Bottom line, the site is up but really slow as other site I have on the same server. I don't now what else to do, I wish I have somebody to help me now the site is being up for several hours but I havent find anyone not even offering to pay in the pay service forum, lol.

Suggestions please, anyone?. :)

Of the plugins listed, I know vaispy uses a bit if a large number (>100) leave it idling.

Other guesses would be all of the image processing related add ons.
