Yet Another Awards System

A lot of you have been waiting for this forever to work 100% with 3.7 due to the new profile tabs...Well wait no longer, here is the new revises version of HacNho's YAAS (Yet Another Awards System).

DESCRIPTION:
This is a Medals/Awards system. Admin can give members awards, and award icons will be displayed in member's profile, posts, as well as in a award list.

FEATURES:
In AdminCP
- Can Create/Edit/Delete/Reorder categories/sub-categories in ACP (with category name and description)
- Can Create/Edit/Delete awards in ACP (with Award Name, Description, Icon URL, Image URL)
- Can Move one (or all) award(s) from one category to another
- Can set some awards un-classified (not displayed for public)
- Can re-order awards in awards showcase
+ Issue awards to members, based on username or userid, with Issue Reason
+ Remove awards from members

In ModCP
+ Issue awards to members, based on username or userid, with Issue Reason
+ Remove awards from members

Front page
- Display awards list in with: Award Name, Description, Icon, Image, and Members who get each award.
- Display awards showcase in profile, with Award information, Issue time and reason
- Display award icons in postbit (showthread, showpost, announcement, private)

- Tables to add: 3 (award, award_user, award_cat)

Not that it matter but he only comes on to vb.org like 2 times a month, he does not reply to PM's nor emails sent to him by me, he does not support any of his hack anymore....so someones gotta.

Don't take this the wrong way but I use this hack a lot and so do many others and all of them want it for 3.7...so if he won't who will?

It really was a very simple conversion minus the timestamps...kept over looking a missing ' in the code.

Re-Usable code is open-source.

This version does not do any template changes, it caches the postbit and adds the appropriate variables for it to show in the postbit. This will allow for users to upgrade there boards without affecting the mod, and also allows for easy fixes for when major releases of vBulletin come out (4.0, 4.1 and so on where major changes to the code are done).


If anyone would like to make suggestions on what you would like to see implemented into this please let us know.

If you would like to forward me what changes you have done we can find a way to have them auto done (as a display option selectable by the user) to where if they like that output they can also choose it.

I think there should be an easier way to revoke medal, like a nav button in the admin panel, or in the "Award Manager* Like how u see, - - Games Played [Mass Move] [Edit] [Delete] [Add New Award]
Maybe you should add a "Revoke Medal" one too

Also add maybe a "Use a comma to award this medal to more than one user" function.

I would like a Forum Option that Board Moderators can give out Awards within a define category setup by the Award Manager. That way board Moderators cannot give out default Awards and only Awards tailored to their boards.

More award images will be coming soon, I myself am not much of a graphics artist but do have a very large set of awards that I use on my board that I will be posting.

Award Manager > Give award to user, then you will see a list of users who have the award, just check with ones you want to remove then click the remove button.

All award phrases ("My Awards" etc.) in awards_profile.php are static :( Will better to save them in vbulletin phrases, for making correct and full translation.

I would like to see Awards statistics like the Promotion options in AdminCP. Where you can see all the users who has that particular Award, with set pages say every 50 or 100 awards in AdminCP.

Because I would like to give and take away award for certain events. Say I have 12 Game tournaments in a game season. I would like to give a participation award for each event and the winners. Then at the end of the gaming season for those who participated, delete those participation awards and give them just a single award for participating in the gaming season.

I would like users wanting to come back to my site, then waiting 3 months for our gaming season to gain a participation award for the season.

I do not think that there is a problem with config.php. I do have a german board and the database related stuff works fine.
But I would propose, that you just use the constant TABLE_PREFIX as all other vBulletin code and most mods do. Furthermore, your database queries could well go into one single query in awards_profile.php. I recoded awards_profile.php an hour ago to a) use phrases, b) use vBulletin API and options for time/date format and c) do only one query instead of 1 + $num * 2.

Once I figured out why the profile block doesn't show when clicking on the tab (even though the html is there alright), I could give you my version if you are interested.
Besides, that problem lies somewhere outside awards_profile.php, as I do not use it anymore, but it was the reason why I dug into the code and changed it.

Update. I found my problem, it didn't ly within this mod, it was a missing div in another one.

So, if you are interested in my version of the profile block, let me know.

This is already addressed internal, it is one of the bugs that still remain and will be worked out.

This will be done in the next release, just wanted to get a fully working release out so people could use it. A fully phrased is in the works.

Never tried it since I use postbit_leg. If anyone wants to send in a screen shot that does use the default postbit I will add it to the screen shots so people are able to tell prior to downloading.

Did you follow the install instructions to a "T"?

If your running the old version and upgraded to this one and did not follow the instructions fully you will get major errors.

I can't thank you enough for taking the time to update YASS to be compatible with vB3.7. We have many contests throughout the year on my tennis site, and these awards have become a very popular feature of my forum. I've delayed the upgrade to vB3.7 waiting for this, because I feared mutiny on my forum if the awards were no longer available.

The upgrade went smoothly, all awards are there. Just a bang-up job!!

I love this mod, and I'll be installing it momentarily. The only thing I wish it had was something like this:

User 1 gets an award, does what it currently does but it has a numerical value associated with it. That way, users can get a running score of how many achievements they have, and total gamerscore (Yeah, this is a rip off of Xbox Live haha).

[edit] To remove that line, just remove the two fieldsets within the code. (that's what it normally is, if not try "legend")

Since I am still in progress of adding awards to my current board this is my current awards graphics dir, there are alot of awards in here, mainly military based but thats just me. you can weed out what you like/dislike, I will get more and post them as well over time. Also a lot of these are not yet dark background friendly, I still need to have CyhperSTL make them transparent, as soon as he does I will link ya to those as well...

I think your wrong, many people are very excited about this mod, and its a great addition to any clan. Since the original author doesnt support his own mods, then at least give the new coder credit for taking the time and doing what the original author didnt.
If you dont want to nominate it as motm then don't; just don't influence others not to also.

I am not going to encourage nor discourage people from doing so, for those that want to then do so based on the additions we have done, the ability to continue to work with current and future versions of vB and that it has been turned into a full product. Even though it is still in beta stage and still most of the code is old, it will quickly get 100% rewritten due to the suggestions and ideas of others and myself. This hack is well liked and many got disappointed when it did not work right with the new profiles and many of us have gotten used to the new product install system of vB and love it, I know it was getting old doing template edits then having to jump through hoops on some mods to get them working again if at all when I upgraded my board, and with all the changes the vB devs are doing one would want to do as less template edits as possible.

So saying that, if you want to nominate do so based on ease of conversion, upgrade ability and supportability.

So glad someone did this and I may provide my cron automation hack for this for public release. As I already coded a completely new awards system with my software there is no need for this hack anymore or the cron. So I will look over this code and send somebody the cron.

When I was testing the postbit displays of the hack, I completely forgot to check how it looked within the H-Postbit. I'll play around with this on my test board and see if I cant add some more placement options for you guys.

I haven't done much coding with interfacing with vBulletin directly, it's mainly been with getting external pages retrieving information from the vBulletin database which is why the awards_profile.php using pretty much straight PHP code. If you have rewritten the awards_profile.php it to make it "vB Friendly", I can repackage it into the hack and make sure that you get credit for it. Atleast then the hack wouldn't have to pull the table prefix from your config file.

I know its not the cleanest code, but have to start learning to code with VB inmind somewhere. All this has been a learning experiance as far as the profile tabs and what not goes.

I appriciate everyones feedback, both positive and negative. The input recieved only makes us want to make this hack even better for everyone.

I've never had other versions of YaAS before and it all seems to be running fine apart from the fact that the 'Awards Showcase' and the 'Total Awards' button link to the user profile but they don't show any of the awards I have given. My user account has two awards and none of them show in the profile. There is also no link in the profile to somewhere where they can be viewed. Another user account only has the one award but this doesn't show in the profile area either. Everything is working fine in the rest of the mod though. i.e awards displaying in postbit.

I have redid the XML File according to the suggestions from liwo to where the awards_profile.php page is no longer needed. This should fix some the issues that people are receiving.

I will add a few more placement options as much as I can. I will also include instructions for those wanting to make their own insert locations in the postbits.

When I get these other fixes done, we'll repackage and reupload the hack for everyone to download.

Awards List: Display Icon - if set to no, the tables are messed up since the table header is still there

Admin Control Panel > Plugins & products > Manage Products > Add/Import Product

click it and then u will see

The files that are in the upload dir:

There are files within directory's, take those files and upload them to the corresponding directory on your web server.

The files that are just inside the upload directory but are not in another directory, just upload these to the forum root: /forums/ directory or whatever you have your forums directory called.

Goto your admincp, Award Manager, on the award you want to remove from someone goto Give Award To User, once there you will see a list at the bottom of who all have the award along with a check box that says remove. tic the check box then click remove.

I can't believe I am about to do this BUT I AM....

I just upgraded to this version this morning and I had to upload all of our awards that we made blah blah blah...got everything working GREAT....except when anyone including admins go to request it says we don't have permission (it's my site..I have permission..lol) anyway and it won't show in the nav bar..I have 2 nav bar's. I am so sorry to ask simple questions and I know better but I have been up all night doing this and I have members chomping at the bit for these.

1. Email being sent says the award is from User 1 - It does not display user 1's name.

2. When I click on an award in the postbit, it takes me to the users profile, yet it is not showing up in the users profile.

3. When you go to Product Manager in AdminCP and click on the Yet Another Awards system product, it takes you to the 2.1.4 thread instead of this one.

You can edit the phrase by doing a search in phrases for the word award. That is how I get to it each time. There in one for the email and one for the PM. I had to edit it because it wasn't showing up right through the email and PM.

This is not an issues if in options you put a users name in where it asks for the UserID that messages are sent. That either should be changed so you can add the user's ID that you want the messages sent from or the word ID changed to NAME so people know to enter the user's name not ID.

If it will be a freash install it is very simple, just upload the files and import the product. If it is an upgrade you must backup the stated DB tables then delete them, uninstall the previous version with all template edits taken out, then upload the files and import the product then you can re-add the db tables back in. Doing the DB tables that way will save all your users awards they have recieved and they will not lose any.

You know, the more I've thought about this, I actually kind of glad that a link is not automatically inserted into the Navbar. There are several mods that do so and the bar gets a bit crowded. I have double Navbars on my site and by adding it manually, I was able to put it in the additional bar.

This is why we do not have it auto adding it, since we do not know how many navbars people have nor which they would want it in anyways, it is always better to leave it up to them if they want to add it and where. My site for example does not have it in the navbar at all, since I have it in the navigation menu in vBAdvanced.

What your asking is already being worked on, there was another who would have liked it shown under the sig as well, we will be doing an option in the settings to show in either the postbit or under sig.

Thanks for 3.7.x release but it still has the same not indexing joins:

After downloading I notice there is only one award. I have found other awards, so can someone tell me if there is any other way to add them to the ACP other than doing it one award at a time? Thanks in advance.

There is no current way to mass add awards, since you have enter in a url for each image and a description we will not do any type of mass add.

I understand this and did not exspect for you to give me a time frame.

I only asked if there was any news on when it would be avail, I appreciate your work and i love this modification. My user's are really happy about it, My forum is for local members who play airsoft and i use the award system kinda like the xbox achivement system where user's do something on the field and get that award on the forums.

I am using 4.0 but will have to uninstall and reinstall 2.1.4. I was hoping to use 4.0 instead of the older version.

Wouldn't there be a way to use the same format it uses for postbit to use in the profile? I would think it would somewhat simple to make the profile part of it work.

There are no plans for a "scoring" system to be implemented.

You mean the awards assigned to the user ? is this a duplicate of the below link "Total award" ?

I think that showcase should to the complete list of available award (the award.php page) while to show the tab of total ward of the user you should click on the total awar link below the award box in the postbit.

A showcase is a "showcase" of the USERS awards, a total awards would be the total awards that there are. so the showcase going to the users profile is correct...we just need to fix it so it goes to the correct profile tab.

When your school or business has a showcase of awards it shows only the awards they have received...not ALL the awards that one can possibly receive.

where n is the number of awards that user received, if i don't missed in counting :P

installed on vb 3.7.2 and is all ok, only a little thing to fix in profile section:
- when you set "no icon" or "no image" or "no name" in profile awards list, the linked column shift... and leave all black on the right, see image below

and... i want make a BIG request : i need a sistem to assign Awards Categories on a section bases.
i.e. i want that an awards categorie is visible ONLY in a specific section (and his childrens), if a user has a award that is visible only in section A, and he wrote a post in a section B (that not is a children of section A), that award will be not visible in his postbit.
If the same user post inside section A (or inside a children section of A)... that award show up.
(sorry for my english, i hope that the example is clear)

I really hope that in one of the future additions, the option for giving each award a numerical value is available, so there can be somewhat of a total "score" based on the awards, difficulty, etc. (similar to Xbox Live gamerscores)

I'm just looking into this mod and it looks very promising. I will sure give it a try.

I was wondering. I saw you have multiple categories.
That is very nice, it gives the opportunity to add more competitions where people deserved awards.
But I also got the idea of turning one category into a rank category.
But... that would need a few things different:
- for a category of the type "rank" only the highest (display order 1) award (rank actually) should be displayed on user profile etc.
- in the stats who has the award only people for whom this is the highest award/rank should be shown here.

This way you have a system that follows who got promoted to which rank on what date.
Do you see possabilities to add such a feature?

I just went through every page here (14 of them) and recompiled a list of all your errors, suggestions, ideas, issues, and whatnot. It is 15 pages long in word.doc, we will be hitting this hard over the next week and am in hopes of having another release by this weekend/early next week.

Not everything suggested will be implemented as of yet, our main concern right now is getting issues and errors fixed first then we can start implementing other things...that may cause errors, so we don't have a hack that is nothing but errors we will get to those first.

Please be patient....I know you all already have been and we appreciate it very much.

To make it work with both, mysql and mysqli, you could just use the vBulletin API:

$total_awards = $db->num_rows($alluserawards);

I haven't tested it yet but I'm sure it will work.

I detected a small error.

I use links with [url] tags in awards. It seems that tags are not turned into html when displaying in the member profile. I can only see the tags there.

oh, i converted from 2.1.4. There everything was fine.

I had this working for some time now but suddenly members can't request an award. If you click on "request award", the page refreshes and nothing happens.

Then if I try to ISSUE an award from the admin panel, I get the following error.

OK folks....I looked into this a bit deeper. The problem with the database error seems to be only when there is an apostrophe in the username. This user is Sleeperhawk's Mechanic. I can give awards to members with the apostrophe or to this one if I use the userID instead of the name. I can live with that but is there a fix for it?

As for not being able to request an award. That may be just because I, as admin, am trying to do so. Maybe it won't allow me to. Never tried before but was trying to test it in researching the above problem and noticed that it doesn't work if I click on "request award".
