OK, here's the dilemma.
If you set the option in vBulletin to allow Quick Reply without having to click the Quick Reply button first, it will not let you quote the message you're responding to unless you click that Quick Reply. That, to me, is bad interface design.
I am looking for a way to make Quick Reply always active, with the ability to click the "Quote Message in Reply" checkbox, so you don't have to go through that silliness.
Is there a way to hack the software to do this? Is there an existing hack? Such a hack, of course, would eliminate the Quick Reply button too since it won't be needed.
My apologies if such a thing is already available. Either way, guidance is appreciated.
