Zoints Local 2.0 - Enhanced profiles, social portal, networking, blogging, and more
Zoints LOCAL 2.0 is now GOLD!
Before installing, we encourage you to make backups and take the appropriate cautions that you would with any significant addition to your forum community.
We would also like to encourage developers to share hacks with the community at dev.zoints.com (http://dev.zoints.com) . Your improvements and enhancements are helpful and appreciated.
What is new to Zoints Local? What makes 2.0 worth the wait?
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/09/1.gif
We know that many of you have waited patiently for this much anticipated update and we love you for it. Let's discuss why 2.0 is just plain awesome and why your forum users would want the creativity and connection it provides.
Zoints Local still brings truly customizable and unique profiles, unlike any free system out there, and is simple to install but let's check out the bullet points of new features for 2.0.
Community Central by Zoints - Your Forum's Social Hub
To develop a well connected and devoted user base, members need a personal connection to your forum. Community Central ties members together by creating personal connections and curiosity. Think about it like a community portal for your members and everything they do that isn?t posting a thread.
Activities on non-forum based aspects of a site are often lost or go un-noticed. Community Central is the hub for your users: to see who has updated their profile, to know who is interacting with others, to read the latest blog entries, to find popular tags on profiles/blogs/threads, and more. Community Central shows what?s going on in your community and encourages more connections, more community, and more fun. And, Zoints Community Central is completely controlled within your vB Admin CP!
Community Tag Pages show for each popular tag who is tagged with it, what blog entries are tagged with it and what threads are tagged with it (threads tagged by Zoints Thread Tags.) It's almost as if it is the ultimate search on an accurately and frequently tagged forum and brings content not found through any other function to connect it all.
Community Central is completely controlled within your vB Admin CP for easy access to manage it's system, templates and so on.

Completely Overhauled, Total Blogging Solution
Another great addition to Zoints Local is its totally revamped blogging system. No longer will you need to seek out expensive paid alternatives to find a full feature blog for your forum. The blog page itself is now a block page with AJAX drop and drag technology, which means users can add relevant (and of course irrelevant) blocks to their blogs' content. Users can now create multiple blog categories for all of their entries which allows for improved organization of a user's entries and easier search for content. All blog entries can now be tagged with entry moods and entry tags, so if this was a blog entry on my page likely my mood would be Teary (tears of joy) and my tags could be Zoints Local 2.0 - vBulletin.org - ZL etc. There is also now RSS Syndication with the blogs so guests or other users would be able to easily subscribe to a user's blog and creating another path to your community. As far as new blocks; there is the blog panel, blog archive, blog tag cloud, recent blog comments, blogroll, and a blog categories list. When you put it all together, the blog is vastly improved and will offer a more rewarding experience to users.

Activity Blocks and the XPSF MP3 Player
Other new blocks added to the profile page, include the Network Activity Block, Personal Activity Block and an XPSF Music Player. The activity blocks increase the chances members will continue to network with one another. The Music Player adds depth to the user?s profile. These additions are a huge addition to any community and help create and foster a need for members to return to your forum.

vB Product Improvements
The vB product has also seen a few changes to help further integrate Zoints into your community and improve the likelihood of profile interaction for your members. Member profiles now show within the postbit the last date they were updated and can be highlighted if they were updated on the same day you see their post (to encourage members to view updated profiles.) Also, you can display recently updated/created or random profiles on forum home. So whether you want to see the active and updated profiles getting the attention or for your new members to get a few warm welcomes, this will help.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/09/14.jpg
Tighter 3.7 Integration
With the 3.7 version, there has also been integration with new features from vB 3.7. Both on Community Central and on individual profile blocks, there is use of the new 3.7 Social Groups and Photo Albums (including displaying a user's albums if the profile block for it is enabled.) You can see both of these in action on various screens in this thread.
What is Zoints Local?
Installed on your forum and under your control, Zoints Local is what you want it to be for your community. If you want to provide your members with a homepage they can personalize, you can. If you want members to share more about themselves via greatly enhanced profiles, you can. If you want members to have access to a complete blogging solution, you can. Networking? Resumes? Photos? Video sharing? No problem. Via Zoints' page and block management system, you can do what you want, how you want, with ease. Learn more about pages and blocks. (http://zoints.com/tour/blocks-and-pages/)
Zoints Local takes your forum's basic profile and turns it into a portal where a whole new world opens up, all on your website. As you can see below, your members can have everything from a personal homepage to an enhanced profile, blog, network, pages to show off their vehicle and anything else that can be dreamed up. And don't worry, we even include a page that shows the entire default vBulletin profile if you want it.
The key to Zoints Local is that the power is in YOUR hands. We know that today?s forum member is looking for something beyond a basic layout that they can find on any forum they joined powered by the same software, it?s just not worth their time to invest in creating a profile that many on the forum will overlook. Zoints Local 2.0 addresses this issue by expanding on the connectivity to provide you with a social networking solution that will make your dedicated members even more committed to your forum. Through measures such as our new central page, new activity blocks and postbit profile update indicators, your members will have a reason to check out other profiles, make new friends and get to know their current ones better. In a world where forums now have to compete with so many other time competitors online, forums need more than just content to drive members back, they need a true community aspect. By building a connected community, your members will not just remain loyal but they will be much more likely to recruit for your forum as they have such a positive affinity for the community. Zoints Local will help to provide the tools to make that possible.

What will Zoints local bring to my forum?
Zoints Local brings a new level of possibilities to your community development and overall website appearance. There are so many features and options that it?s impossible for us to list them all here. As a community based platform that allows forum owners to share blocks, the opportunities to expand your site with Zoints Local continue to grow every day ? there?s just no telling what feature, block or idea will come out next. At the Zoints Development Forum you can download blocks posted by other community owners and developers. This way, if you own a writing forum, a software forum, a nursing forum, or a forum dedicated to any other topic, you can contour pages and blocks to specifically fit the needs of your community. Learn more about sharing blocks. (http://zoints.com/tour/block-sharing/)
A few of the blocks and pages packaged with Zoints Local:
About Me, My Activity, My Discussions, My Links, Instant Chat, XSPF Music Player, My Media, My Photos, My Interests, My Communities, My Network, My Network Activity Quick Comments, Ratings, My Blog, RSS Feeds, Social Actions and many more. Virtually any existing "widget" shared on the internet can quickly be converted into a block, many in just a few minutes.
What else does Zoints Local offer?
Zoints Local is a state of the art product with all sorts of amazing features that go beyond the normal forum profile.
Drag and Drop technology - Do you want to move a block from one part of your profile to another? Do you want to change the order of your pages? No problem, just drag and drop! It's that easy.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/09/1.gif
Social Networking - Forget just friends, Zoints Local allows your members to create as many "Groups" as they want. We all have friends, family, colleagues, forum friends, and various other people in our lives.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/09/1.gifhttps://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/09/1.gif
Comprehensive privacy controls - Your members can create a variety of groups and show each group different content on a page by page basis. Zoints allows you to show what you want, when you want, to whom you want. Learn more about Zoints' Privacy Controls. (http://zoints.com/tour/privacy/)
Style Sharing - When your members create custom styles, they can easily share them with other members of your community via the Styles Database.
Global Search - Zoints Local includes a global search that bridges communities and creates a virtual freeway between forums on the internet. Searches conducted through Zoints return results from every community that uses Zoints Local. Think of it as Google, for people. Google sends you a lot of traffic, and so can Zoints People Search.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/09/1.gif
The best part about Zoints Local is that you pick what to let your members use and what not to let them use.
What sort of administration options exist?
The Zoints Local system gives you extensive control of how your Zoints profiles should behave. You can turn features on and off, determine if you want your members to be able to edit/create/manage styles of their own, define default styles, define the default block layout, default pages, edit block options and much more.
Zoints Local 2.0 now implements a file-based phrasing system which will allow the system to be ported to other languages in a much simpler way. If you create a language system, please share it with us so you can help out other forums in need of the same one! Also with 2.0 is improved Module API and block management, all of which are detailed in the links below.
Zoints Local 2.0 also brings new user control options to your forum. You can login in as a user or edit their options from one click on their profile page. If a user is deleted or banned, their Zoints Profile account is closed. You can list reasons as to why an account is closed in case other members are curious. And you can now view comments left by each user in case you had a troublemaker or a spammer that you need to quick seek and destroy all traces of.
You can now find zAdmin by simply accessing your vB Admin CP and going to the Zoints Profile Settings section. If you are in a panic, in a rush or new to Zoints, all of your settings can be found from this simple area.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. This is all installed on MY forum?
A. Correct :)
Q. What kind of information is shared with Zoints.com? Does Zoints Local store my user's profiles anywhere other than on my site?
A. No!
All your user information stays within the confines of your local database. However, certain data is transferred between your forum and Zoints.com.
When you use Zoints Local and register your forum with Zoints.com, this allows secure communication between your forum and Zoints. With Zoints Local, your members can connect to their Zoints.com account, if they have one, where their interests and other profile settings (such as username, avatar img, and profile url) are transferred from all their Zoints enabled communities into Zoints.com.
This allows direct traffic to your forum, through our custom "tag" pages:
http://img2.zoints.com/zl2/zointstagpagethumb.gif (http://img2.zoints.com/zl2/zointstagpage.gif)
To reiterate: Your user's information is stored locally on your forum's database. Zoints does not control any of your user's profiles or data. Certain data such as user's interests, username, and profile url are sent to Zoints.com to generate traffic to your forum as well as create a reliable network of online communities. User's can connect their profiles on your forum to their Zoints.com account if they do have one.
Q. Is there an autonomous version available?
A. No and in all honesty, we're not considering it at the moment.
Q. I would like to remove the branding at the bottom of a profile, is this possible?
A. If you are interested in this, you can contact us here at our support forums. Otherwise, branding must remain.
Q. Is there a live example of Zoints Local running that I can check out?
A. To see how well people are starting to integrate vbulletin and profiles, see here:
Forum: http://www.strike3forums.com/forums/
Profile: http://www.strike3forums.com/forums/z/missionhockey21/
You can also see a wide variety of forums that have installed Zoints (both new and old versions) in our Community Directory:
http://zoints.com/communities/
Q. I would prefer to utilize the centralized version of Zoints. Can I?
A. No, sorry. Not until we standardize the Zoints Local and Zoints.com code. We do not have an ETA for this.
Q. How do I create a default style for my members?
A. Creating a default style is easy. Using the Zoints Style Editor, create styles as you normally would. As an admin, your custom styles will be automatically listed in the zadmin.php control panel. You can specify the same or different styles for each page by going to zadmin > pages > edit name/style as shown in the image below.
http://img2.zoints.com/zl2/style1.gif
The style dropdown menu will then be populated with all your custom styles.
http://img2.zoints.com/zl2/style2.gif
You can also add a logo and header to the top of all /z/ pages on zadmin > settings.
Q. Why do I have to register my community with Zoints and get a forum token and authentication key?
A. Zoints Local provides (and will add many more) features that require secure authentication between Zoints and your forum.
Q. My forum uses the Zoints centralized system. Can I switch?
A. Absolutely! The system does it automatically. Please note, you cannot run both.
Q. What browsers do you code for?
A. Firefox 1.x+, IE 6.x+, and Opera 8.x+. Other browsers may or may not work, however, we do not officially support them at this time.
Q. The images in the navigation bar don't fit well with the style I created, can I change them?
A. Yes, you may overwrite those images with your own as long as they are named the same and are easily readable.
Q. Are there any vBadvanced modules that work with this?
A. Of course. Currently there are Recent blog entries (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=130948) and random members (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=130947).
Q. I have custom profile fields I don't want to lose. What about those?
A. No problem, we created a block that automatically pulls all the custom profile fields. See it here (http://dev.zoints.com/showthread.php?t=28). Blocks can be made to do pretty much anything :)
Q. Does this work with my existing and custom BB codes?
A. Yes! As an example, this image (http://img2.zoints.com/zl2/bbcode.gif) shows comments using the popular YouTube and Spoiler BB codes.

The concepts are nice but I have been working on most of these concepts already myself which wont require me to utilize your site and help grow your site.
My question to you is how do your plan to prove your site is going to be effective in the long run? Prove that users will be helping to grow their sites and not just yours and a select few of the sites in which are highly active and participate in your system.

Having some problems with the install
One: The link to register to get your security token is broken, I did find my way though.
Two: After the install it is not loading my css files from a custom skin?
If I have my css stored as a file it appears to have placed the starting " in after the forum url instead of before thus not loading the css file.

Ooohhh.. this sounds really exciting. Since 3.7 people are using their profile much more. I can imagine how much my members will love this :D
One question: since it replaces the default vb profile, what will happen with the messages and albums that people have in their current profile?

Hey sensimila,
That is actually one of the things we fixed! You can now translate the language through changing phrases now, which obviously makes ZL much more easy to port to another language. One of our staff members, Dominic, actually is working on the German translation right now and will share it.
The following thread should be very helpful to you and please consider sharing when you are done sensimilla.

Hey, this is a great mod but i'm running into some problems.
It seems to be, on the zoint specific pages my skin breaks and all formatting is lost.
I've attached screenshots of this problem, I hope this can be resolved as this is a great modification.

Hi smooth-c,
This has to do with the coding of some style makers. As Zoints Local is not within your forum root, if the images are not coded so they are absolute (ie, full path including http://www.yoursite.com/forums/images/.....), it can cause problems. If you think you can correct this, feel free, but if you would like for me to do it, please open up a support ticket with temporary admin details (ensure that I can edit styles) and note in the ticket the style I need to look at. I should be able to set you up. :)

Hi ace,
vBSEO is a very large, detailed program so while I can't say that it absolutely works with it in every possible combination as I haven't tried every option of vBSEO.... I can say that it works perfectly fine on my forum that has vBSEO 3.0 installed. I simply use the .htaccess provided with the ZL2 download and have mod rewrite turned on in Zoints and I get pretty URL's with zero conflict from vBSEO.

Hi Mike,
Can you tell if any other product features loaded? Like can you see zcentral.php (there wouldn't be any blocks in it if you haven't accessed the CP) or do you get automatically directed to the Zoints Local profiles? Also, try refreshing your browser and see if it shows up.

I'll think about installing this -- however, I do already believe that vBulletin may be "overstuffed". I had thought about registering my community with Zoints, but I'm not so sure I see any value in it.
If this mod is available freely, then the novelty of having said mod is decreased as it becomes the norm.
That, and I'm not sure my users will even use it. I'm not trying to be MySpace.

Hi Zacarias,
Zoints isn't for everyone, no hack is. However, a good way to test it and get an idea if it would be right for you and your forum is to install Zoints Local but to NOT install the product. You obviously wouldn't be able to test out the features from the product, but you would be able to use Zoints Local and without the product, there wouldn't be a profile redirect so your members would be clueless that you have installed ZL unless for some reason they wanted to type yourforum.com/forums/z/. If you didn't like it, uninstall it and remove the files with your members being none the wiser. If it did work for you, then you would just upload the product.

Well, if we gave up we would just be proving your point and how fun is that? For the record, my account and the Zoints account have 498 out of 1419 total posts on the 3.6x version or 35% of the posts (roughly.) Bugs? Yeah, bugs exist with this version, it is a release candidate and we're hoping to correct those. We wouldn't put this out as an RC if we didn't plan to correct these bugs. You should be CHMODing the /z/user/ directory (and subdirectories).
You are required to leave the /z/ directory in place.

It took some effort to get Zoints installed on Windows XP correctly, so I thought I share some tips for everyone.
1. The installation link to register and get a token may be broken: you can register directly at: http://zoints.com/forum.z
2. The installation asks for and suggests a path to the forum. Contrary to Windows conventions, relative & absolute paths with '\' delimiters do not work for installing Zoints in Windows. So the solution is simple: just use the suggested path (or the file system path where your forum directory is located) and change all '\' to forward slashes, '/'. Note that this path is only used to install Zoints - it is different from the site path (URL) that you'll configure in the last step. (Note to Zoints team: if using '\' delimiters on Windows when installing your mod, your install script simply strips out the '\' delimiters giving one long filename.... strange behavior.)
3. You can add links to Zoints pages in your User CP as suggested in the usercpmod.txt file in the "helpful docs" folder. However, if you use the popular "Icons for User CP Navigation" mod, then you'll need to add to the USERCP_SHELL_ICONS template the same extra html in the same suggested location as in USERCP_SHELL (read the usercpmod.txt file if you're confused). Otherwise, these extra links will not show up.
Hope these tips help. Thanks Zoints for a great mod - can't wait till the "gold" release! :rolleyes:

I responded to your ticket with us in regards to this but I will share this with others too. The album file is an old file that simply allows your users to enter in a URL to an album to redirect guests to. So it's not a true photo album. If however you would like to use it, please download the following file and upload it to your /z/ folder.

Hi Jase,
It's relatively big, not a Facebook sized network of course though. And yes you certainly can keep the 3.7 profiles, you can even have as one of the user pages enabled called Forum Profile which links directly to the builtin vB profile.

Oh and for sharing the fix to add the User CP links when the icons hack is used. We were all working on a blank vB install so you kind of forget about those hacks when faced with the default templates (I actually use that particular hack on my forum and quite enjoy it.)

I'm new to your Mod, but my beta tester seems to really like it. She is having some issues with her browser locking at times, I'm sure it's locally inspired, as I get none of that when I replicate the steps.
I was looking a blog function, and found more. More later after we learn our way around with it.
I can say... You might offer a drop down in the styles to allow one of the existing ones to be used. Some of my members are rather set with their choosen skins, and want that as a starting point for future edits.
Otherwise, a really nice piece of work. Yes, I did register at your Zoints as well for support.

A style importer would be a lot harder to make function properly than a person doing it manually, because there's a lot of variance in the styles people create. It's great to hear that you found the style creation system easy to work with :)

Yes, I can certainly relate to that.
These two styles we use have been in force scince VB 2.2, and I have to re do them from scratch almost every upgrade - I have always added hacks and our own touches, not to mention some work in joining phpportals/vbull/photopost/IRC together on our board. That means refitting it all every time, and some fall out as they obsolesce.
I am planning to deploy this fairly soon at our live board, and you will start to see some links from our members via Zoints.

The navbar & menus do not display correctly when CSS stylesheets are stored as files. A CSS stylesheet is probably not created as a file for Zoints pages since the navbar appears to inherit the vBulletin background and no background & table is created for the navbar, but the links still appear and work.
Solution: until Zoints fix this bug, disable "store CSS stylesheets as files" in vBulletin Options > Style & Language Settings.;)

Once this hits release, and not just release candidate, I'll probably install it because the profile mod looks wicked cool. I just want to play it safe and wait for the bugs to be ironed out before putting it on a live board.
Plus, Zoints has done a lot to help establish the community I help to run, and I guess that makes me a loyal Zointer or something. Does the future of Zoints look good? I certainly hope so, because Zoints rocks.
(Don't worry Zoints, I haven't abandoned you. Hehe)

It installed fine but it did not handle the current vbulletin very well. Gradients, font styles, and placements were all wrong. It was if it used the skin but either overwrote or neglected the vbulletin style CSS.
I did uninstall it so I do not have an example but if need be I guess I can reupload it and install it again to display as long as no user can access it.

If you reinstall, but do not upload the product, the profile system will be there, but not easily accessible to your users. Then, if you'd like, you can submit a support ticket with temporary access to your site and we can work on matching it it up for you :)

I too had some style issues with the mod, but that was easily sorted by going into the style editor and making up style(s) similar to the two skins my membership use. I then saved them as global shares.
My bigger beeflette is that I cannot seem to find a usergroup perms setting for which groups can or cannot use. For me, that's important.

Hehe)
I have one question, though, and not sure if it's been asked or not (I'm in a huge rush to do like 20,000 things at the same time) - does this create any issues with vBSEO/vBBlog?
Hi intricatic,
Thanks for the kind words, we really appreciate them. As for vBSEO, I am using 3.1 on my personal forum and no issues are created with it (I just use the default .htaccess that comes with ZL.) As for the vB Blog, I can't help you there so hopefully someone with that modification can chime in. From our end, that I know of, you would need to obviously disable our blog and our blog blocks to avoid confusion for your users.
At this time, that is not currently available. We felt that it would be confusing to have two different profile systems in effect, one for some and one for others. Others have wanted this though and perhaps you could get a coder to do it for you. Let us know if you have any success.
You could disable member profile viewing for some usergroups, but that would be a total disabling through vB Admin CP. So if you are looking at enabling ZL for some but keeping the default for others, we don't currently have that feature.
Yeah right ... anyone agreeing to THAT "TOS" (http://zoints.com/forum-owner-TOS.z) is, in my personal opinion, careless at best.
I almost installed this.
HSeldon,
That TOS was created a long time ago. We have had Zoints Local and all of our mods 100% free in every sense of the word for our entire time of operation. Nobody will ever contact you now or in the future for using Zoints Local or any modification currently released. Why was that put in then? I don't know, I didn't write it or see discussion about it. I can only assume it is standard legal mumbo jumbo. But think about it, we get an email and a username from you, that's it. We have never asked for details where we could actually get payment from anyone as that is not our intention or our purpose with it.
I'll see if I can get any further clarification on that for you. But I am pretty sure it is just saying that Zoints can, if it chooses to, change the price of the service (from free to something else) in the future but that wouldn't effect people who already have and use it, just the people who would download it after that point. Right now, right here ZL2 is 100% free to install, download and receive support on and I promise to you, based on what I know as I am not an owner of Zoints, there is no intention of changing that.

We felt that it would be confusing to have two different profile systems in effect, one for some and one for othersGood point, but consider the fact that a paid subscription usergroup would entail better facilities for that group - this profile system versus the default one.
One of the benefits my members enjoy from donating to help defray my costs is that I tend to load functions into their usergroups that basic free usergreopus do not get.
That was my line of thought there. But, thanks. I got your message.

Hi PG,
Please open up a ticket with us and provide a temporary FTP account, admin account and your forum URL... in case it's needed. With the holiday weekend, there are fewer of us around so if we have the ticket in place and all the needed info, we can get an engineer to look at it sooner should it need to be looked at from that level.
Thanks and we'll try to get you sorted out as fast as we can.

Oh it was something we did discuss for sure and maybe we could work it in one day as we understand how some could certainly use it (for the reasons you mentioned), we just wanted to focus on the features that would be used/needed at as many forums as possible.
I'll pass the feedback along.

If you have "Store CSS Stylesheets as Files?" option enabled in your vBulletin options - you can temporarily disable this setting and your CSS definitions should work properly with Zoints Local.

I have several bugs to report. Hopefully these will be fixed with the next release. ;)
1. The "Photo Album" link points to /z/album.php is missing so the page can not load.
2. When the block layout for pages is changed, the layout does not change for old/ existing users, even after specifying apply changes to all users. Similarly, when enabling/ disabling pages, old/ existing members still have those pages present, even after specifying apply changes to all users.
3. When disabling style editing, the users can still edit their styles. Also when style editing is enabled, there should be a more obvious button to end/ cancel the editing besides the tiny 'x' button in the right corner.

Hi vbboarder,
I don't know if it will make the next update (there was some debate about it as it is confusing) but attached here is the album.php file. And to explain, it is not an album solution but rather a link that your members can enter in which would direct guests to their album URL that was inputted. What might be a really cool thing for someone with some time and skill to do would be to recode that so it automatically grabs album URL for the default vB album system and then it would just be a standard link (so users wouldn't have to enter anything in, it would just further integrate the album into the profile.)
Looks amazing. I'll wait until its out of beta stages though.
Thanks for the kind words Chris. Check on this thread every once in awhile to see how we're coming along. :)

From our creation one of our primary goals, as forum owners ourselves, was to develop quality free modifications that would enhance communities for both the admin and the end-user. We hope by doing so that we develop a good relationship with the forum as a whole and be thought of as a true partner in developing forum communities and connections. Zoints Local is very much on the plus benefit to the forums than to us in complete honesty, but I suppose the greatest benefit gained would be recognition of Zoints.
There are contact grabbers/inviters on vb.org too. If anyone wants to develop a block to share at dev.zoints.com that would take advantage of such an idea, I am sure many here will appreciate it. We're in the process of setting 2.0's bugs right and getting it as stable as we can, but if it doesn't get developed and shared by someone, I suppose it is something we can certainly look into in the future.

Oops, I missed this, my apologies ramu.
No idea about the stable release date, we are still waiting on additional bugs that could come in, but we will have an update out quite soon that corrects some that have been reported.
As for the demo link, I'd suggest seeing if any of the profiles who have mentioned installing/enjoying the product to see if they have their forum listed that might have Zoints Local installed. If anyone wants to share their forum to be listed, please PM the Zoints account. And to clarify, the example forum (my forum) is not affiliated with Zoints outside of the fact that I do obviously work for them. It is my private active forum and one of our live guinea pig forums that has been used in testing ZL in the beta stages. :p

I really can't say. I would imagine we would be at least close to a stable release by then. We all want to put out a stable release as soon as we can, but like I said a lot of it comes from hearing back from those who have installed it, their problems or difficulties and then adjusting ZL. Hopefully bugs will come to a trickle, the engineers will know the bulk of them (at least the common ones) and we'll get them fixed up and have that release out soon.
As for new features, that really isn't in the works for this release as it would further lengthen the RC process as we would have to get testing and feedback on the new features.

You can edit your avatar from links within Zoints (it'll take you to the vB page) but not your signature. You could pretty easily edit the settings page with Zoints Local I would imagine to include links to that and other vB features if you wanted to. We didn't include all of that as we felt that most, not all, forum owners would rather keep the core of their User CP intact and would rather integrate Zoints into that (which we do provide the template edits for if they choose to.) The avatar can be edited from Zoints as it is something used throughout the profiles whereas the sigs are not used in the profiles so we didn't feel the need to include that.

Oh yes. We designed the 3.7x version to be integrated with the vB gallery. There is a block that you can enable for users which displays their photo albums on the vB Gallery (with thumbnails for the albums) and a link to all of their albums. And with Community Central, one of the modules you can enable is to display the latest added galleries. Check the screenshots above to see what I am talking about. :)

I am an Admin on a large forum that is currently running 3.6.8 and has the previous version of Zoints installed. Before I upgrade the board to VB 3.7.2 PL1 (latest version at time of posting), can you tell me how the new VB profiles) meaning the mini-myspaces) will affect the previous version of Zoints? It looks to me like there are some conflicting features.
Many members have already created profiles in the old version. Will the upgrade to VB 3.7.2 cause them to lose anything from their existing profiles if we keep the old Zoints?
Are there features in the old Zoints that will cause any of the 3.7.x new features to not work?
I would prefer to wait until this new version goes gold before I upgrade to it, I am a little leery of release candidates. At the same time, we really do need the added benefits of 3.7.x.

Ahh, I think I see the problem. Ok traxxx, there is a page for the profiles called Photo Album, to read about it more and download the missing file, please check out the following thread below. But there is also a block which is separate and different from that, this block is called My Albums and it pulls data from the vB gallery system for each user. To enable this block, login to your Zadmin, go to Pages, go to Edit Block Layout for the Profile, find My Albums and add it to the layout.

Hey Tiki,
As with any upgrade we do suggestion proper backups to be made, but if the upgrade goes as it should, it should be a smooth process and you should retain your Zoints Local profiles as they are.
And all new major features to vBulletin work without conflict to Zoints and vice versa. We have tried to integrate the two biggest features, the photo albums and social groups, with blocks to Zoints Local. But both systems work as they are supposed to based on our testing and the feedback we have received.
We are working hard to get this as stable as we can so please continue to check back to see how we're doing.
Any fix for the CSS issues?
Yes there is Endurer. If you faced the problems that this engineer referred to, right here might be a solution for you. As he notes, this will be fixed for the next release.

I wasn't even aware of the existense of TinyMCE until this release of Zoints. From what I've learned so far about TinyMCE, the Zoints team made a very clever choice when they decided to incorporate the editor into Zoints Local. The basic formatting controls work great. I'd like more formatting controls, but I'm way too happy to ask for them now because I know you guys must have put in a lot of hours to get this functionality.
For those of you that have not yet taken the time to get familiar with TinyMCE, it is a Java, cross platform, open source html editor with a wysiwyg user interface. It is well supported and there are quite a few third party plugins available for the editor. I'm anticipating some exciting new editing features in the future. Your vBulletin BB code is not going to work in this editor, but trust me, your users won't care one bit. Neither will you when you find out how feature rich the TinyMCE editor can become. Your users will be able to format documents in ways that would never be possible with the vBulletin editor.
Thanks again to the entire Zoints team for this upgraded functionality..... absolutely, positively, outstanding work! You have just taken Zoints Local to the next level.
Now..... how do I add the Youtube plugin (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1900964&group_id=103281&atid=738747)? (Maybe not that one in particular. I see several on SourceForge)

This line of code SHOULD look like this:

I appreciate the comments JD. The vBulletin editor was just really difficult to bring over to a third party external script (others in the modifications community have had similar difficulties), I don't believe it was impossible of course, just very time consuming. Plus when vB has a new version, such as 3.7x, that made the code that existed within Zoints Local a bit quirky, such as before we added the new editor the color dropdown didn't work and there were other small issues. The credit goes to the engineers though as they looked at several options and really tried for one that had been tried and true on other applications and would bring the ease of use forum users desire.
If you have any suggestions on things to add to the editor that would be appreciated by any forum, please share. We really wanted to add the editor in for this release so things that might have been considered, like the YouTube add-in, probably wasn't looked at by them.
The editor was a long time coming, but thankfully it made it in for 2.0. And your frank criticisms of a lack of an advanced editor got me talking to the guys in charge and then the engineers got to work on it, so you definitely helped to speed it along.
Is there an official place to report bugs, or is this thread the correct place?
I've noticed that the Discussions page is not working correctly in Internet Explorer 7. In IE7, the editor appears outside of the area where it is supposed to be. Everything is displayed correctly in Firefox. See attached screen shots.
We're working on RC3 right now so we certainly would like to find as many bugs as we could.
Let me know if you have access to this forum:
http://network.zoints.com/forumdisplay.php?f=92
If so, please post that bug there and if not I will do it for you. (I am not for sure which groups have permission there or not.)

You need to uninstall the product from your vBulletin Product manager to remove Zoints from your admincp.

Nevermind. Here's the fix:
In the file, z/templates/profile/board/new_thread.template.php
Find: <p><label for="z_tinymce_editor"><?PHP echo L('message') ?><br />
Replace with: <p><label for="z_tinymce_editor"><?PHP echo L('message') ?></label><br />
In the file, z/templates/profile/board/new_reply.template.php
Find: <p><label for="z_tinymce_editor"><?PHP echo L('message') ?><br />
Replace with: <p><label for="z_tinymce_editor"><?PHP echo L('message') ?></label><br />
Nevermind on that question too. I got this all figured out .... after I found where tinyMCE.init was.
I added the media plugin, the iespell plugin, the emotions plugin, the advanced image plugin, and the fullscreen plugin. I aslo added, cut, copy, paste, strikethrough, Horizontal rule, and full justification to the formatting controls.

I love it!
Thanks for sharing the fix. Like I mentioned, we're working on RC3 right now and we're actually going to be discussing the progress tonight. I'll make sure to bring up that bug and the fix, as well as mentioning some of the add-ins for the plugin that I could certainly see having some use for all forums. They might want to keep it a bit more on the simplistic side, but seeing some of the cool things you have now on your site really does show the flexibility of the system for anyone willing to take the time to make some edits.
Hmm... must say I like the looks of it, with the exception of the Global search and all the interforum stuff, which won't help my site at all...
You obviously earn some money on this interforum "community", but what about a paid version where you didn't have to bother with that?
SGL.
Hey SGL,
At the moment there is not a paid version or an autonomous version. Zoints Local as it is might not be for you or your forum then, but if you are interested I would suggest playing around with it but to not install the product and keep the URL private to you and your admins/mods to look at. I think that's the best way to determine if it would be right for you community.

You can install just the profile system, and not take the final step of importing the vBulletin product. The profile system will then be in place, but not integrated into your forum, so your users wont even notice it.

3. When disabling style editing, the users can still edit their styles. Also when style editing is enabled, there should be a more obvious button to end/ cancel the editing besides the tiny 'x' button in the right corner.

Keep in mind that I am somewhat aesthetically challenged, so the color combinations on some of the pages may not appeal to you. I just work on my pages to demonstrate some of the capabilities and, as such, the content on these pages in most cases, is not meant to express any sort of intelligent thought... It's all just a demo.
Since the addition of the tinyMCE editor to Zoints Local, an entire world of possibilities has opened up for vBulletin bloggers. As of this lastest release, there's simply nothing else like this product.

Hi SWM,
Just to tell you, sometimes with custom styles if the images for the style are not appearing while looking at Zoints Local it is usually due to the image paths set in the style (the image paths need to be absolute.) You might not have that problem, it just depends on how your style is set up.
Two things I would suggest doing though to make Zoints Local fit your style:
1.) Before turning it on to the public, create a Zoints Local style that fits your theme and make it default to each Zoints Local page.
2.) If you design graphics or know someone who does, you might want to consider tweaking the graphics a bit to fit the colors of your style.

Hello,
I posted this issue as a ticket on the zoints.com site, but I'm just too edgy to wait and see how long it takes to get the support for the first time.
Instollation went smmothly, yet - the URL to member profile shows: http://www.topsynergy.net/z/?id=1 instead of whatever should be the PHP filename before the query parameters.
Based on a thread on your forum (http://network.zoints.com/showthread.php?t=4771), I imported .htaccess to the /z/ directory and tried to access http://www.topsynergy.net/z/zadmin.php
The latter has cause the following FF browsing error message: "The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."
I have vbSEO on my site. What should I check or do next?

For some reason, this messes up my quicklinks, it only shows about half the options in my quicklinks instead of many when i disable zoints.
if (empty($vbulletin->options['zointsprofile_zurl']))
{
$vbulletin->options['zointsprofile_zurl'] = $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/z/';
}
else if (!preg_match("#/$#",$vbulletin->options['zointsprofile_zurl']))
{
$vbulletin->options['zointsprofile_zurl'] .= '/';
}
if (VB_AREA == 'Zoints')
{
$show['quickchooser'] = false;
$show['languagechooser'] = false;
}
if($vbulletin->options['zointsprofile_on'] AND $vbulletin->options['zointsprofile_autotemplate'])
{
#Add Zoints Drop Down
eval('$template_hook[\'navbar_buttons_left\'] .= "' . fetch_template('zointsprofile_popup_navbar') . '";');
eval('$template_hook[\'navbar_quick_links_menu_pos3\'] .= "' . fetch_template('zointsprofile_popup') . '";');
Somewhere in here messes up my quicklinks, though i know where, just don;t know how to remove it correctly without messing up something.
EDIT: Was able to remove the correct code to get my quicklinks to the way they are supposed to be, i have 2 templates that have the quicklinks code in them which confused the template hooking i guess.

Thanks for the kind words.
As for the Friends List from the default vB profile, as of this moment I do not know how to bring that over. As of right now, only the social groups are brought over and not the friends. I'd have to imagine it is due in part that our networking allows for indepth privacy controls so by bringing everyone over, some contacts may have access to some content that the profile owner would not wish for them to see if they weren't savvy enough to move that contact into a different contact group. You could enable the default vB profile as one of the pages to show on the tab, that way users could at least remember all the profiles they befriended in order to contact again.
I'll mention it to the engineers though, maybe there is something they could do for this in a future version.

I am not positive on the characterset for Turkish (if it uses unicode character encoding for instance), but if it doesn't need UTF-8 like Greek does, then you can translate Zoints Local on your own and we do provide instructions on how to do so.

Is it possible to have the blogs without all the jazzy profile stuff? It looks good but it's not right for my community, so it would save me having to buy vb's blog system if this allows you just to use the blog.

you can disable all the other blocks and just keep the ones that pertain to you and disable all the tabs you don't want. Zoints is pretty flexible.

It's very easy Chris. Included with the 3.7 download there is a block called "My Albums" which pulls a user's album from the vBulletin gallery system. There is also integration with the albums into our Community Central page.

Hi Mark,
I suspect your the same user on our forums reporting the same trouble. Either way, have you tried downloading the zip from our site yet?
http://network.zoints.com/showthread.php?t=4732
I don't know if that would change anything, but in case this zip didn't properly tie up all the ends with the files, maybe it would. Regardless of that though, I'll let our engineers know about this.

Sure Chris.
Access /z/zadmin.php on your site. Click "Pages." On the page for which you want the block enabled, select "Edit Block Layout" and click "Go." From the list of blocks find "My Albums" and then select to enable it wherever you want it to be enabled.

I've just installed this, it installed fine but when I try and view any profiles/blog link I get a 403 Error - Forbidden.

I have a similar issue with the 403 error. Except mine is only when I have the friendly urls enabled. I uploaded the htaccess to "z". I get 403's for everything if it's enabled. If I turn it off, everything works fine.

Anybody able to help with the re-write rules? I put the htaccess file in the z directory. But when I turn on mod rewrite, no pages are accessible. I can only use this turned off. I want my members to be able to use the simple custom urls instead of what is created without the rewrite.
My only other question......I already have an htaccess at my forum root which is my domain root. My whole site is vb. So, should I just take the custom rules and drop them in that htaccess file and get rid of the zoints local at the z root?

hello,
I am having issues with zoints upgrade.
I have uploaded the contents of the upload folder without the index/detail files.
Via cute FTP I am changing the permissions of the htmlpurifier folder to 777, it applies the changes. I click OK, then look at the permissions again and it is showing 666 again.
I tried changing the permissions via my web ftp client, setting everything to full access, 777 (i use windows based host) and it confirms the changes. I go back to cuteftp and it is still showing up 666.
when i navigate to the http://yourdomain.com/forum/z/install/manager.php (i replace domain/forum with mine) i get the below error

No sorry, i don't know what you have to do! Sorry!
But, concerned with the photo album you have to add it yourself from phpmyadmin.
However, it's unworthy since it is not a beautiful block with a thumbnail image as a cover of the album. Does anyone know how do we add it? (like facebook or the old profile?)
Thanks a lot

Ok Hats off to the Zoints developers. I have installed this on a brand new installation of Vbulletin 3.73x and it works very well. My problem was my old install was very heavy with mods. (my bad). My members are having a great time creating their custom profiles:)
By no means is this software complete. There is an unlimited amount of features that could be tapped for this great addition.
Photo Album intergration
Arcade and casino intergration,
Better block and full page editing
Step by step custom block building

Yeah. With vBSEO, there's a setting that can be tweaked:
Exclude Pages?
Use regular expressions here to exclude scripts and/or pages from being affected by vBSEO. This prevents rewriting as well as copyright insertion.
Another user reported that if they exclude the /z/ directory, everything works fine again :)
