I just saw another error very similar to this reported. Are you, by any chance, running a server with Windows in ISAPI mode?

You are required to maintain a couple of branding elements, including the /z/ directory and the "social networking by Zoints" branding at the bottom of the profile pages.

As far as your second question, no you are not "giving your members to Zoints". The only person on your site who would need to have an account at zoints.com is you yourself. If any of your members do register at Zoints, there is a profile linking option that they can enable, but again, it is not necessary for any of your users to be registered on zoints.com in order to use the Zoints Local profile system.

I can't count so good, but I think that's three :)

If you install the Zoints Profile system, obviously the Zoints Profile pages are going to be there for your users. You do have options to run the vB profile system side by side, though we find this tends to confuse users and lead to some of them using one system and some using the other, which isn't really a great way to build the social networking aspect of your community.

New blog entries, as well as recently updated profiles, tag clouds and other useful updates are all viewable on the Community Central page to hep drive traffic back to the blogs and profiles.

And yes, of course people can comment on other peoples blogs :)

good to see zoints still kickin. I was all over local until vbull did their own stuff and zoints seemed to die for a bit with the takeover.

that said, i may consider zoints again considering, I'm still very interested in this as I loved the ajax drag-drop and I did lose a ton of backlinks (and GoogPR) when switched back to vbull. :(

So questions/concerns:

Duplicate feature confusion... I agree that using zoints and profiles would be confusing... but it seems such a shame to not utilize existing vb features if moved to zoints local as well.

that seems to be a path's issue. make sure you set the paths correctly when installing.

No, Zoints has no knowledge of what vBulletin's profile contains really. The data won't "vanish", it just won't be visible because if you set user's to redirect to the Zoints as their default profile then no one will ever see their vBulletin Profiles. You can turn off the redirect at any time making the vBulletin profiles accessible to your users again. In the 3.7.x version users albums will appear in the albums block but are still completely managed through vBulletin.

Thanks for the feedback, i fixed the error not long after i posted, the path was right but i needed to change all of the \ to a / instead and it worked fine.

Installed this last night and have been testing it for the last 10 minutes and found a fair few bugs that stop me from using it.

If i create a blog and make my first post, It wont show up on the blog page until ohhh maybe 5 or so minutes later. Then if i go to my profile page and check my Recent Blog Entries it will not show that i have made any blogs. So if i change the settings of the Recent Blog Entries and tick the box to show titles only, It will then update and show the blog i had made. However if i go back into the settings again the box is unticked, so everytime i make a blog i need to tick this box to update!

Secondly, if i edit a blog entry, the edits do not show up anywhere, unless you actually enter the blog to read it, then the updated version will show.

If you try to link to a photo in your blog, they show up in the editor, but when viewing the actual blog itself, they do not show.

When creating a style to use in the profiles, theres an option to upload a picture. I can upload the picture ok, but then i cannot delete it. It will load a white page with '1' written in the corner. So therfor not letting me upload any more pictures because it says i already have one uploaded ( Which i now cannot delete ) and this goes for every single style the user makes, So the same picture shows in every style and cannot be deleted.

That's it so far, but its putting me off using this now as most is not working properly.

None of the content uploaded/created by your users is overwritten by Zoints. The 'My Albums' block links to the users vBulletin album(s).

There is integration of the vB groups, both on the Community Central page and with the
My Social Groups block.

Probably not. We've put a lot of blood sweat and tears into our own blog system; it's not too likely that we'd want to replace it with the vB one.

This is a lot more likely. Zoints Tags is on the roster for things to look at now that 2.0 is gold, and importing tags from vB is definitely one of the more common user requests for this plugin.

While it has been disscussed in the past, integration with vB usergroups was not something we were able to add. Unless you hack it yourself, you can't limit use of the profile system to certain usergroups.

Your blog issue is actually part of the design. These blocks have been designed to cache the entries for recent blog entries block in order to make it highly scalable. You can edit the time the block takes to reload by editing it's administrative options in ZAdmin.

The editor issue I am unsure about. Please submit a support ticket regarding the issue. Same thing with the style issue.

I've noticed some issues with Firefox 3 compared to viewing etc in IE6 - Profile Pics wont show.

I can upload a photo, however, it wont show in the profile. All permissions have been granted 777, but cant seem to get a pic to upload and show. IE6 shows a white box with an x in it, FF3 refuses to show anything except a text line.

I had the error when writing a comment, but have sorted that.

The only other issues I can see at the moment, are the style designs - every time I try to create a new one, I end up with a blank style.

On the face of it, awesome stuff, just the niggles are a bit frustrating.

Are you guys aware of any issues with Firefox ?

Can you give a definitive pointer towards the uploading of user pictures ?

Sounds like you might need to do the template edits (found in TEMPLATE_CHANGES_MANUAL.txt in the download package) manually on that site.

Zoints Local is not compatible with Windows in ISAPI mode, so if you're in CGI, that's not the cause of the problem. Let's have you submit a support ticket so we can do some research and attempt to duplicate your issues :)

The Zoints Tags (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=127244) plugin does have an autotagging feature for thread tags - just a thought there as far as mitigation of sacrifice. Not a perfect solution, by any means, but definitely an improvement over nothing.

As far as Custom Blocks go, one thing to remember is that if everyone just waits for someone else to design them, and nobody wants to dig in and work on the blocks that they want for their site, the collection of blocks won't grow very fast at all. So, if you're interested in specific blocks, I'd encourage you to give it a shot and get your hands dirty :)

You can install the Zoints Local plugin files and not import the vBulletin product. That will put the profile system in place, but not do the vB integration, so you can browse directly to yoursite.com/forum/z/, but none of the links will be in place for your users to click.

I have 2 bugs to report for the "gold" release:

1. The "Photos" link url is bad in the header tab for page links. The browser reports page/ object not found. It probably should link to VB user's albums, similar to the "My Albums" block as you mentioned.

2. When editing a page title at Zoints Admin Area > Pages > Edit A Page, the new page title is not saved even if "apply style to all member pages" is selected. After saving the new title, the old title still shows in the menu & tab links.

Note that when the Zoints setting "allow regular members to edit styles?" is disabled, users can still edit the page titles. The option to prevent users from editing page titles should be independent of the option to prevent users from editing styles since page titles are not stylistic but convey content and should be consistent among users for most types of websites.

I can not get any new photo albums to show in the Zoints Community page. I set my album to "public" and set the Community page to show "new photo albums." The albums block appears, but with no albums. I tried caching and not caching the albums block in the Zoints settings page; when caching, the cron task is enabled and also I manually ran the Zoints cron task to make sure the data was cached; when not caching, still no photo albums are displayed. Any other settings I forgot about or is this a bug?

I noticed the tour folder & file in the "gold" release. When I tried accessing the tour's index.php file, Zoints reports "fatal error - no tour was found." Is this feature to show users a tour of Zoints functionality? Is this feature work in progress, or a bug, or do I have some settings wrong?

Version Question: In the product xml file, the version says 2.2.2. All other 2.x Zoints Local releases have said 2.2.3. Is this just a typo or did you include the wrong product xml file? Just checkin'....

I have 4 bugs to report:

1. I can not get the TinyMCE editor to appear/ work in IE7 (it shows up fine in FF2).

2. The my Quotes block does not have a link to add quotes. Instead, the user must activate the page editor mode, then click on the wrench edit icon to add new quotes.

3. When adding a URL to the my Links block, Zoints shows an error page when adding the very first link (subsequent links do not result in errors; bug is reproducible by creating a new user and adding the very first link). The problem may be related to adding the link to a folder other than the default "Suggested Links". Even though an error is reported for the first link, when you re-edit the my Links block, you'll see that Zoints actually added the first link.

4. When editing the my Links block, the "# of Links to Display" is not shown so the user does not know if it was saved, even though the user previously saved a value.

I'm not sure which features you would consider to be part of the profile and which you are looking to disable, but you have a wide range of options as far as customizing what your users can actually access.
As far as server performance, I don't have metrics, but I've seen Zoints running on some pretty large sites without any noticeable changes in performance.

There's really not enough detail in your post for me to even begin troubleshooting. Can you tell us a bit more? Where are you getting hung up? Are you getting an error message?

When you say CHMOD 77, do you mean 777?

Bug Report: When a user has a new private message, a "New Message" icon button appears along the top icon buttons bar. However, the "New Message" icon button can only be seen on admin pages only (ie: Admin Area, Member Control, Profile Pages, & Profile Blocks); it can not be seen on profile pages where it would be more useful (ie: Profile, Blog, Activities, etc.).
The "Zoints Profile Blocks" link in the adminCP should link to the same page as the "Blocks" link at the top of the "Zoints Admin Area" page; instead it links to a less useful page.

Feature Needed: The admin should have the ability to set default privacy permissions for each type of profile page. Currently there is no ability to do that.

Rather than CHMOD, then, right-click on the folder/files in order to change their file permissions from read-only to read/write.

Thanks for the info, but as everything with Windows, it's not that easy. For more info about Windows attributes/ permissions, read: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326549

To remove the read-only attribute, click on the Start button > Run... button > type in "cmd" > type in: attrib -R /S /D full-path-to-directory (substitute in the full path to the HTMLPurifier directory). Don't you just luv Windows.... Hope that helps ;)

Note: Even after you perform the attrib command, when you right click any HTMLPurifier folder, it will still show "read-only." However, all of its files have been correctly modified and TinyMCE will now correctly work in IE7.... YEAH!!!

This has been discussed previously, but the short answer is "no, there isn't."

You can install the Zoints Local plugin files and not import the vBulletin product. That will put the profile system in place, but not do the vB integration, so you can browse directly to yoursite.com/forum/z/, but none of the links will be in place for your users to click.

However, what we've found is that forums who choose this path tend not to have as much success with it, as the user base gets split between the two profile systems, and it reduces user interaction.

As far as your first question, you are required to maintain the /z/ directory structure.

My forum used to be on a windows server, and i installed this and it didnt work right. So i uninstalled the product and left it.

Now yesterday i have moved over to a Linux server and am trying to install this again but keep getting this error

I can go several steps. It asks for forum version. 3.5, 3.6 AND 3.7. I Selected 3.7 as 3.8 is not noted. Is there a file that I need to edit to make it accept my 3.8.

It lets me get to next page were it is asking for vbulletin data base name, user name, port and password. All have been double checked inclusive of reviewing the vb config.php file.

I get an error message stating that it can not find database. I have turned off vbulletin forum and am logged out at time of install.

What is happening?

Create a style that matches your website style. You can look at your vB style within the AdminCP for help (like color codes, image locations, etc.) It takes a bit of trial to do it, but it is very doable. Once you do that, login to your Zoints Admin and set that new style as the default style for all pages for your members. You could even disable style creation/editing from your members so you can preserve that look throughout the site.

Unless you have an odd server configuration that I am not aware of, it might be a simple mistake in what you are entering for your vB info. I know some time has passed between this question and the answer, but if you have not resolved it yet, open up a support ticket if you have not already and one of our engineers will help sort this.

I just tried the file and unzipped it just fine. I haven't heard of any other difficulties with the file, so perhaps your download was corrupted? I would suggest downloading it again if possible. If your problem continues, let us know and we'll try to compress it in a different format, like a rar, for you.

Damien, we haven't heard of any problems with 3.8.1 and ZL. As always we recommend installing on a test site first before any major install, but 3.8.1 is not radically different from 3.7.x so you should be relatively safe.

pollitus, are you sure you downloaded the 3.7.x version? I only ask because we have the 3.6.x thread that is identical to this. If you have, open up a support ticket because that is a head scratcher. One of us will take a look at it and see what is causing that not to appear because you are absolutely correct in that the photo block is very important.

Thanks and that was very helpful, mentioning that Chris had the problem too. I found this in regard to his problem, but I will warn that it did not solve his problem... which could be different from your's.

Run this query, but only if you use the zp_ table prefix (do not do this if you do not have zp_):
SELECT *
FROM zp_module
WHERE FILE = 'mod_my_albums';

If that returns a row, that means the block is present and we'll go from there. If it does not return any rows, that likely means the install needs to be re-attempted as something went awry when you installed the first time.

Ok, i ran that query, and it didn't return any row so i guess that some file was missing or corrupted, i have tried to re-install the package from zero 2 more times, with out any luck. :confused:

I don't have this installed, so I can't say if this will work, but have you tried disabling the plugins? It says on this page that it uses plugins, but it doesn't look like there's a product xml to uninstall, so try going into the menu of plugins (different from products) and disable all associated plugins. Beyond that, I don't know. This product is not supported, as it says on top, so I'd be careful...
