Wow. Any chance of getting this working for Australia? :DI've actually looked into it. The bad news is that the cell phone companies there don't have the same deal with the email addresses that will send a text to your phone. Any company can be added that has the email to text type system.

Maybe in the future, though!

Edit: Now is the future! :p Australia is supported. Remember the limits on which companies can be supported, which amounts to those who have the email-to-text services.

If the User CP menu option or profile links aren't showing up, or if
you have a heavily modified forum or a custom style that's significantly
different from the regular one, you may have to edit the templates
manually.That style is significantly different from the default one, and it's impossible to be able to search and replace in every single style code. Sorry :( you'd have to do the template changes manually. There are instructions in the readme.

Notice on the find and replace in the readme, what you're trying to find may vary slightly, especially if you're using a different style. You can see the general structure of your code, though, and copy it accordingly.

Like I've mentioned, this can only work with companies that offer a public email address where people can email someone and have it sent as a text message. This seems to only be a common thing in the US. I apologize for lack of support for other areas, but that's beyond my control. :p

For example, with Alltel, you can send an email to xxxxxxxxxx@message.alltel.com (xxx being the phone number) and Alltel turns that into a text message to that phone number. If those companies have an email or a system like that, then yeah, I could. :)

If anybody has companies which have a texting email like that which I don't have added, let me know what they are, and what the emails are and I'll add them. ;)

Edit: I found Rogers, and they do have such an address. I'll look into the others you listed and try to update them later today. :)

JonathanThere's a note in the readme about it, but for some reason when the email hits the cell phone company, it disregards any headers like "From" or "Reply To". In my case, it always shows my default email for my hosting account. I haven't been able to get it to change.

This is something that I'd like to look into for the future, though. I've thought about managing a system for replies, and maybe someday that will be possible. :)

Weird. It seems there's some issue with 3.7.0 perhaps? I've updated compatibility to be 3.7.1 because that's the only thing I can think of. My test forums were 3.7.1 and I noticed that the people who can't get it to work seem to be using 3.7.0.

Maybe I'll download 3.7.0 again and find out what I need to do to get it working on that. :(

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I released this as I use it on my site(s) thinking it would be of use, but I'd like to further develop it to be more useful and more customizable.

I realize everybody wants more companies added, and I'm working on that! :) Please be patient while I get a list together. I also need to work on compatibility with other vBulletin versions (i.e. 3.7.0).

TimI had meant to add this but forgot. I'll add it next release. :) The location of that menu when you click on the username should be in the postbit (or postbit_legacy depending on which you use) template.

The price is very expensive, each text message costs its receiver at least 19 Cents. I don' t know of any plan which provides this for free or for a flat rate.

Therefore the only way to provide text message service is to pay for sms gateways and charge your forum users. This reduces the costs of an sms to 7 Cent or even lower. The only problem is that you would need to charge the text message sender, if you don' t want to loose money.

Unfortunately your mail to 123@... couldn't be delivered because the addressee currently doesn't allow mail reception on their mobile phone.
You may send the mail again. However, a successful delivery requires that the addressee allows mail reception.

That's why I said it's free most of the time. Maybe I can find a way to get cheaper/free messages to those places eventually, without requiring signup for a bunch of crap.

I'm trying to get 3.7.0 to work because some people report they are unable to upgrade from it. However, on my test 3.7.0 forums, the current product installed just fine. I've changed the installation method but haven't released it, like I said, until I get some more work done with this first.

If you are using Princeton's GTUserCP - Enhanced USERCP Interface + USERCP Menu hack, you will have to manually add the link to the GTPM_USERCP_SHELL template as it replaces the GTPM_USERCP_SHELL template. Most likely, that is the cause of the links not showing in the USER CP. Also, you have to have Receive Email from Other Members checked for the links to show up to send the SMS messages.

Update released. Fixes a problem with the User CP Icons hack, but I see there's possibly another one with the GTUserCP so I'll take care of that next time. :) Thanks for pointing that out.

I spaced out the thing with the Receive Email from Other Members, I'll fix that next time as well. I figured the companies and the notes on the User CP issue were enough to at least get this working for everyone. How's that list for companies and countries? :p

when using a uk mobile number it will not work, i have to miss out the first 0 to fit the whole of the number into the system as UK mobile numbers have 11 numbers in them :(

I would add all the ones back you had in the first version. The template edits you did were fine for all but the USERCP_SHELL. If you limit it to TMS, you will lose some installs I'm afraid. Maybe do a setting for either TMS or the auto-template replace.

And can it overwrite to upgrade? Do the old tables that are no longer needed get removed?

AT&T bought out Cingular and the old text address works for those that were on Cingular before the buyout. But as we all know how AT&T works, sooner or later they are going to switch everything so only their crap stuff works. ;)

I have fixed it for my UK one. Just uninstalled it, edited the install file and changed 10 to 12 and installed it agian..or use mysql and edit the fields

seems just one field in the User table and then the rest is in Cellproviders

I would add all the ones back you had in the first version. The template edits you did were fine for all but the USERCP_SHELL. If you limit it to TMS, you will lose some installs I'm afraid. Maybe do a setting for either TMS or the auto-template replace.

That is going to be re-added. It was a mistake that is going to be corrected. Cingular should work for you until then, though.

Q: It says that the user has chosen not to receive email from other members when I try to text them, but they have selected to receive text messages.

A: The way the plugins are set up, the sendmail form checks email settings and permissions before it gets down to where the text messaging stuff is. So, if a member doesn't want to be emailed, they can't be texted either.

That almost makes sense, but it's something I'd like to fix next release.The instructions are your friend. ;)

I've posted an update to v1.1.5 as more of a maintenance release. It fixes a few of the aforementioned bugs, and is more secure in that when a user sets up their number they have to confirm it's theirs by entering a PIN number they're texted.

I'm working with some others to get the next features I want to add set up, like usergroup permissions and the like. Hopefully I'll be able to add all that in the next week. In the meantime, enjoy. :)

Also, has there been a problem confirmed with Sprint? I have been unable to receive my verification text from the forum, and I'm using Sprint. I tested it by sending myself a text from my email, and it works fine.

I think this has the potential to be one of the most awesomest mods there is.

Edit: Was able to get the text after another attempt. Sprint seems to be working.

I did notice one slight error though; nothing major.

When you send a test message, it comes up with this:

Basically, that space between the < and the a there was not presenting a working link heh. Simple fix was to search for editphonenum in the Phrases, and it came up to edit it. Might wanna correct that in your next update then. I know it's nothing major, just a small code error. Hope that's helpful.

1. Apparently you can only text yourself. :) When I tried to text someone else, I recieved the message myself. THIS IS A VERY MAJOR BUG!!

2. When someone sets up an account with the UPDATED plug-in, he/she cannot send messages at all as it comes up with the warning I quoted in the above post.

I am going back to the previous version until all of these HUGE pre-historic size bugs can be fixed.

I do allow that in my profile (and eMail also) but the User is getting an Error Message.

You were right. :p I had made a typo and it was using the user's information that was trying to send the text, not the user who was being texted. Fortunately this has been fixed. Just download the new one, install and overwrite. Sorry about that.

I installed this mod yesterday on a forum that I am starting. I tried to send a message to my Sprint phone and I didn't receive that message until today lol. With the new version, it took well over an hour before I received the message. Not this mods fault though, because I tested sending a message to my phone through email and it took just as long. Make sure your users select the messaging.sprintpcs.com option & are very patient :erm:.

Also, I think the phrase you are looking for is $vbphrase[smsmembersubject].

Really needs to be an easy way to edit those out.The first "FRM" you're describing is the headers the cell phone company receives from your server for the email. The second one is the subject of the message. There's no way to change the first one except for manually specifying headers somehow, but I didn't provide that because most cell companies ignore the headers and provide a "From" address of either a random number, or your hosting account's base email.

In your case, either remove the smsmembersubject phrase, or deal with it for that carrier as there's nothing that can be done except trying to manually set headers and see if that does anything. But like I said, not all carriers are going to display that way so it's probably a bad idea to get rid of the phrase.

The only thing I can think of is that some people are inadvertantly selecting the wrong company (i.e. AT&T when it should be Cingular, maybe... who knows), or some carriers' email to text services suck and they're delaying or dropping emails like crazy. Like I said, though, it might work to try using a similar carrier. Try Cingular if AT&T doesn't work. Try Qwest if Sprint doesn't work. So on and so forth... that's my best idea, because I know the emails are correct for them and the mod has nothing to do with what happens once your email hits the cell phone company.

did u ever fix this issue? thankswhere to enter the details, the number or address u cant find it, so i went and checked each template, the memberinfo one is slightly different fro what is caled for, as seen here

This works great. All my site members can & have used it. Pin codes were received without issues. I like getting text messages from my site, telling me that I have a pm waiting on me. This will come in very handy.

I'm working my butt off on version 1.2 right now. It's pretty badass. :D Lots of administrative options like usergroup permissions, a reporting system that will report which companies/emails work so I can start weeding out the non-working ones, and all kinds of cool stuff.

Keep an eye out, I'm getting closer to finishing it every day.

Upon entering the confirmation PIN I get this on the top of the next page that displays Your Number and SMS Options: "Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [path]/includes/vbgallery/usercp_nav_start.php on line 30". Not a show stopper but would like fix it before announcing it.

Any idea what the conflict might be? Here is line 25-35 in that usercp_nav_start.php:

Your gallery is causing issues, disable it temporarily to see if that fixes it. If it does please report back in this post to let the developer know.

Just a quick update on the Orange issue..................

Your number must have the e-mail facility set up on the orange site firstly (which is here (http://www.orange.co.uk/communicate/email/?linkfrom=hp4&link=box_left_pos_2_6_link_3&article=hpnavigationcommunicate)) then after you recieve the settings and its set up on your phone ie orange.net, then you can use the system.

Another point to remember is when you set the mail up (which is free by the way) and you send the message from your forum to activate the pin number sending, the first message you recieve on your phone probably wont have the pin in the message but you can "hear" the pin by accessing your email via the "listening to your email" option (option3) and from then onwards the system works fine and dandy with text alerts via your phone. Why the first text doesnt have the pin shown but you can hear it is something im not sure of.

This maybe the case with other people using this system and not recieving the pin as the mail is not set up on the specific cell provider etc......

Just a bit of advice if it helps anyone.

Thats is a GREAT IDEA and I´d love to use that also in Germany.
I installed it and all went just smooth, but deinstalled, because it aint free in Germany to receive such a sms and furthermore you´ll have to activate such a service on your phone over here - which just suxx.

The purpose of the PIN is to prove you own the number, as well as confirm your settings are working and you're receiving texts before the forums bother wasting resources and trying to send you all these texts that you're never going to get.

Small problem when I tested the mod on my forum with my profile.
I selected Orange UK as the provider put in my phone number. It then wants me to select an email address but there is none to select.
I'm now in a loop and unable to get out of this. Reset fields does nothing and when I go to edit my details I'm taken straight back to the above screen.
