Hello, sounds a great mod but I haven't been able to get it working yet. The mod seemed to install fine as I have all the SMS options etc in my admin cp but when I don't appear to be receiving the test message with the pin to my mobile number.

I am on 02 (UK) and there was only one email address to select which I did. Entered my mobile number as 07933xxxxxx (all numerics) and then sent the test message which I have not received yet, been waiting for over an hour now. (I did re-request the test message three times as well).

I have read the troubleshooting section of your read me file "Q: I'm not getting the text messages/I'm getting them after a long time." but I couldn't really understand what I needed to do.

Is there any advise you can offer at all please?

Small problem when I tested the mod on my forum with my profile.
I selected Orange UK as the provider put in my phone number. It then wants me to select an email address but there is none to select.
I'm now in a loop and unable to get out of this. Reset fields does nothing and when I go to edit my details I'm taken straight back to the above screen.I've heard a report or two about this. I'll try to add some way to fix it next release. :)

ThanksMake sure you don't have to activate the ability to use the email-to-text service through your cell phone company. I'm not familiar with the companies over there, but I know with Orange you have to activate MMS first. If that doesn't work, the email I have for that carrier may be bad. I've built a feature into v1.2 that allows the SMS mod to report to me which carriers are confirmed working, and allows users to report carriers that are not working properly (i.e. wrong email). The automatic reporting can be turned off in the Admin CP if you have privacy concerns, but you'll be able to learn more about all this when I release it.

Anyway, this has given me the idea to add a field to the database to record carrier-specific issues or directions for each carrier or email. :) It's probably not a bad idea.

I tried this and unfortunately it didn't make a difference. I am still not receiving my test message containing my PIN :(

I have tried to set it up again and the only carrier email address that was there before has now disappeared so I have no email addresses to select now.

Any ideas?

Is it a pay and go or contract phone but not sure if this would make any difference.

I should add to this, and I do not mean in a negative way. The script can be easily converted as a standalone. And can cause massive congestion on the mail servers through a function assigned to a loop.

When you send the request, it can be looped to what ever numerical value you may like and incremented to what ever numerical value you want assigned to a $variable (as an example). Say multiplying this value by *90. And having your .ini timeout set to a high value.

I do see that you have provided security by means of an ID, this can be easily changed to simply echoing and applied to a logical statement. Or even a conditional statement.

There was a similar script release a couple of years ago, and was shut down as it provided malicious means. It was then further released, but this time, the source code was "closed" as in encrypted.

This is only directed towards mobile/cellular phone providers that offer the email as free.

I don't see any reason to encrypt it.

All the script is doing is mailing another phone via it's email. I don't understand how this program could be a threat of national security -_-. If someone really wanted to spam a cell phone, all they would have to do is create a function that would mass send a message, which this modification does not support.

For smaller forums with little traffic, the best way to fix this is to go to the Plugin Manager in the Admin CP and edit the two plugins that send out the emails (one for PMs and one for the sendmail form). Find the vbmail() function and change it from vbmail to mail. This will only work if your server is configured to be able to send mail through PHP, in most cases it is though. This will email instantly and make the text messages more real time. It is not recommended for larger forums because sending email takes a lot of resources, and larger forums send them in batches (using the vbmail function) to save on them.

I've finally gotten v1.2 done, or so I think. It's installed on my development forums at http://www.robwoelich.com/business/testforum/ if you want to try it out. I'm going to let it run there a day or two as well as have a few friends of mine test it before I release it to make sure everything is ok. Feel free to test it out on my development forum and follow the instructions in the beta testing thread there if you run into any snags. :)

The sooner it gets tested, the sooner you can use it! :p In the meantime, I'm going to spend some time verifying some of the cell company emails through the company websites. v1.2 includes cell phone emails that are marked as "Confirmed" if it's known that they're working properly. :) This will save some hassle in picking the right email.

There are many pitfalls with this product.

You use "sms.de" for the German t-mobile customers. They have a limit of only 30 free messages per month. Besides, I am a t-mobile user and tried sending an email with the format you use and I did not receive the sms.

What you should add to the description of the mod is that some (or all?) companies will charge the cell phone users for receiving such emails, if you use the email address of the cellphone company directly.
For t-mobile in Germany, the address will be +49XXXXXXXXXXXX@t-mobile-sms.de, if I remember it correctly.

you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

Yeah...I made the same mistake, as I went in and set the user groups that could use the mod and didn't think that, as the Site Admin, that I too was a member of a group. The Site Admin Group.

I'm trying to get a database together of what settings work, which don't, and which require special setup with your phone company before you can use the MMS service if you need it. This is why you leave autoreporting on ;) and have your users report working or non-working numbers. Once a good database is built, this will all be included and displayed when someone sets up their number as necessary.

A lot of countries outside of mine don't have English sites so it makes it hard for me to find information. Otherwise, just fill out the company name and country and I'll see what I can come up with. All of the fields on that form are optional.

With Mmail you can send and receive emails from your mobile without any complicated set up or subscription charges.

How Do I Send an Email?
You can send an email form your mobile in exactly the same way as sending a text message. The only difference is that you must type the email address then a space at the start of the text message. Then type your message and send it to shortcode 212.
e.g. 'your.name@o2.co.uk Hi there. Hope you're having a good day ...'.

How Do I Receive an Email?
For people to send an email to your mobile they must send it to your Mmail address - see below. You will receive the email in the form of a text message. The email can be as long as you like but it will be delivered in messages of up to 160 characters. The first message will also contain the sender's name, title of the email and the start of the email. In order to get the rest of the email you will need to request to read the next section. The number of the email you are reading will be shown at the bottom of the message. To read the next part of the email text the number of the email to shortcode 212.

How Can I Set Up Mmail?
Compose a text message with the word, 'ON' and send it to shortcode 212. Then simply follow the on-screen prompts. If, at any point, you want to cancel this service simply send the word 'OFF' to shortcode 212.

What's My Mmail Address?
Your Mmail address will be your mobile number with country code (+44 for UK mobile numbers) combined with '@mmail.co.uk' e.g.+447711123456@mmail.co.uk.

How Much Will It Cost?
It will cost the same cost as any text message to send a message or request additional parts. Any messages received will be charged at 10p (Inc Vat).

Any word on adding something similar to this? I don't imagine it would be too difficult to do since you already have the phone information. A template specific to the SMS message that is sent to a phone when someone replies to a thread should probably be used however.

Apart from the above mentioned, here are a few suggestions for future release:

Adding a link under Thread Tools "SMS Subscription" where the user will be sent a text message when a response is left in the thread.
Ability for the admin to charge vBcredits per text, or per subscription. The more options the better.
Ability to subscribe to the Calendar, where an alert will be sent if there happens to be something on the forum's calendar for that day.

OK I have followed the instructions and I can not see any settings for SMS in the usergroup permissions? I do get the option in the usercp and the SMS Setup in the admincp but no setting in the usergroup permissions? Yes I have uploaded the bitfield_sms.xml several times?

I have fixed it for my UK one. Just uninstalled it, edited the install file and changed 10 to 12 and installed it agian..or use mysql and edit the fields

seems just one field in the User table and then the rest is in Cellproviders

Although I cant see any user that I can send a txt too..I guess they have to set that up in there control panel for it to "show up" for me to txt them?

The Orange network in India has been taken over by Vodafone, i have installed the mod and tried to still register my orange number which has been taken over by vodafone. sodoes it mean the email would have changed too. :( Can you please add Vodafone India to the Service Providers list.

1) Does it work in conjunction with VB blocking/ignore features in case the get annoying texts.

2) Is there a way to have the pop down menu only show if they allow text to be sent to them? I assume there is a conditional that could do this? At the moment anyone with email enabled has the send text menu.

I don't have the usergroup permissions. I've uploaded the bitfield but alas when I go to the Usergroup Permissions it doesn't rebuild the bitfield cache and I don't see the SMS options in the usergroup permissions. Any suggestions?

All of a sudden this is not working. I enabled it globally, enabled my own in my profile (confirmed #, etc) but its not showing up in the contact tab. I even double checked tha all templates are there, completed correctly. Its also enabled in member and admin user groups as well.

Yes it works fine on vb 3.8 RC have to manually edit templates if you need it to work fully like it should, which it does... :)

I had this same problem with my T-mobile. The way that i got it sorted out was that I called T-mobile and they enabled this service for me so you may need to contact your provider and am sure they will be able to help.
