Hello,
A new error message has arrive on my forum for the past few days, and users are complaining that, from time to time they are being kicked out when submitting a PM, but the submission usually succeeds the second time around.
The error email that I'm getting is below and has to do with database connectivity. Can any one help me with a good advice on how to troubleshoot this issue? The problem is that the problem occurs randomly and only a very few times a day. That's why both the host and myself have a hard time pin-pointing the source.
Database error in vBulletin :
mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: #HY000Can't create a new thread (errno 11); if you are not out of available memory, you can consult the manual for a possible OS-dependent bug /home/a/2/4/5231/5231/public_html/includes/class_core.php on line 311

Hello Marco van Herwaarden, long time no talk :)
My host requires me to provide a means to test the problem and to be able to regenerate it.
Due to the random occurance, they do not manage to replicate this error. Any idea?

Have you tried going to the Script page that produced the error - http://www.yoursite.net/external.php?type=js&lastpost=1 (your site name edited out)? I just did and it's a mess of text. Perhaps fix that script and see if you no longer get the errors.

I'm sorry for my ignorance, Lynne, but I never have touched that page. Besides errors are being issued from that page as well as from:
showthread.php; cron.php (referred from this page (http://www.topsynergy.net/celebrity-contact-information/index2.html)), private.php (referred from this page (http://www.topsynergy.net/index.php)), private.php?do=showpm, etc.
Thanks for your help:)

I don't know that you will be able to reproduce the problem consistently as it is an error because of your server specs. When you reach a certain 'limit', you get the error. Read up on it here: http://www.jigsawboys.com/2006/04/13/mysql-error-1135-cant-create-a-new-thread-errno-11/ and http://forums.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=78318 and

Thanks a lot for your kind help and dedication to the cause. I'll read this information and get back to you if something is still unclear or if I gained some insight that may help other members as well. Thanks again.

Current status report:
Resolving the issue has taken three steps, all psycological by nature, no technical experise required:
1. Understand from supportive members (see previous posts) that this is a pure OS resources issue.
2. Getting a really annoying letter from HostWay that the correct way to avoid such issues in the future is to buy a dedicated server from them.
3. Sending them back a real nasty letter about the apparent deterioration on their customer orientation and a fearsome dilapidation of their professional capabilities.
Follow these three steps and your database connectivity issues may vanished as mine:)
Thanks, guys & gals for your support.

You forget step 2b: Backup everything of your forum and store ofline.
(Wouldn't be the first time i see a host cancel the account - with all the data - when a customer complains too much.)

Thanks Marco. I just hope that the fact that we are paying over $500/mo. for our dedicated Windows hosting and quite a few shared domains will keep them from doing just that:)
I wonder if a discussion can be started over sharing and voting member experiences and recommendations regarding hosts?
