How can I create a new button that allows user update the dateline for thread. Thanks

Hi all,
I would lke to do as follow but I do not know how can I start. Please advice:

I want to create a button near Edit button. When my user clicks on the button, it updates the dateline for that thread and the thread will be displayed on the top of its category.

Thanks. It is exactly what I need but do you know how to add a new button near Edit button to do this function like it does in Thread Tool.
