I have searched all over today for a system that is similar to vbulletin.org within the mods area.
As you know, you can only access the download if you have your license # added to your user account.
What I'd like is the same system but for paid members only.
- allows anyone to view the page but requires registration/ paid membership to download files
- the actual page allows detailed instruction etc
Anyone know of any mod? I have also seen it working on http://www.forumshelp.com/forums/f57/3-6-2-hitech-style-198/

What you'll need to do is create a "Paid Usergroup". Then use the Paid Subscriptions to allow people to pay in order to be promoted to this new group.
Configure the mod hack to only allow the 'download' to appear whilst part of this new group that was created above. This can be easily done with conditionals, or permissions.

hi - thanks for the reply - that method looks a little messy because the "guest" just get a vbulletin message "You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:" etc etc with the login form
What I want is the system that folks like vbulletin.org use and forumshelp - see :
http://www.forumshelp.com/forums/f117/blue-steel-893/ and
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=171951
where all guests can view the post but only registered/ paid people can download - you don't get ugly messages here
any ideas -- anyone ?

This can already be done using the permissions system.
- the actual page allows detailed instruction etc
What you might be looking for is the "hide hack". It hides certain parts of a post enclosed with [hide] tags.

yes and no
I want a section like the vbulletin.org mods section. So therefore anyone can read the page, but there is a message if you haven't added in your license - and a link to do so.....

You'd just need to do a usergroup check in postbit and display a message if user is in usergroup X.
