As another side question to your valuable time could you explain how to change which style the system uses?, i have uploaded a style with no parent or merge and find when i use that style and a user clicks the links to the download/uploads the "Force Accept" page is in the old style so is the categories page and Admin, Mods cp, any ideas?

Simon, I don't spend much time with the style system - we just use the one style on our site, and I haven't changed the LDM code for this for ages. What exactly are you doing? What do you have the LDM admin setting/default_style set to, and have you re-configured it in any categories?

Thanks for checking Andrew. For the LDM profile integration, are you talking about the 2 LDM plugins hooked to member_customfields for "latest LDM entries" and "what's viewed list"? I justed added '3.8' to the '3.7' case statement. Anything other version checks or plugin edits I should do?

NB: other - this is for ldm 2.3.0 only - not 2.2.9

Have you turned on the ldm setting cat_desc_popup? There is a javascript bug with this option in 2.2.9. Sorry.

Thanks for this file, I haven't now an error in the data base but :

If I want to modified or delet a comment, when I clic in valid, I have a page empty (and the comment is not modified, or isn't deleted if I clic in delet).

1. The inline 2.3.0 JWPlayer does not work with LDM 2.3.0 and VB 3.8 - the inline players do not even show up in both IE7 & FF2. So I reverted back to the 2.2.9 JWPlayer and debugged it. A temporary workaround is to substitute the ldm_get_entrybits function from LDM 2.2.9-post1 into the 2.3.0-beta1 /includes/local_links_include.php file. There's one change you need to do in that file to get JWPlayer to work - find $musicbox_seo and change it to: $musicbox_seo = ldm_seo_url("play", $linkcatid, $linkid, 0, $pagenumber);
I wouldn't be surprised if the ldm_get_entrybits substitution would cause some other feature not to function. Andrew, can you please let me know what code in that function I need to change in the 2.3.0-beta1 local_links_include.php so the JWPlayers can work correctly?

I've got Links & Download Manager installed as well as the flash-site plugin for posting YouTube videos. Many of my forum members use Photobucket for video hosting and I'd like to know if anyone has a plugin to make it work like YouTube? Or, if there are general instructions on how I can create my own code, I can give that a shot also.

I turned off the additional attributes feature and installed Flash Player 10 on both IE7 & FF2 - the inline JWPlayers still do not show/ work without the previous edits I mentioned above.

I like the new admin interface in LDM 2.3.0 - particularly then new layout for linkbits/catbits and the new page for LDM Plugins.
Suggestion: on the LDM Plugins page, can you provide a function to delete selected extra LDM mods - some of them have 10+ plugins so it would save time, especially when testing. Instead of deleting each plugin individually, I'm currently using Mysql directly to delete them at once with one statement.

Note: You'll probably have to update the LDM Plugins page to support the LDM Extras Plugins product/script (to allow updating LDM without requiring reinstalling LMD extra plugins) that I sent you.

I have 2 bugs to report for LDM 2.3.0-beta1 used in VB 3.8.0-beta1:

1. Shadowbox shows the thumbnail and not the original image for entries with thumbnails that are different from the original image.

2. Clicking on a category name pops up its description instead of linking the user to the category entries listing page. I believe in LDM 2.2.9-post1, the description pops up only when clicking on the arrow. Since the category name doesn't link to the category entries listing page, the user if forced to use the category jump menu (if enabled) or go to LDM's home page.

I remain bemused. I have installed the 2.3.0 beta on a clean version of vb 3.8 and both the shadowbox and inline players are working fine for me with ie7, ff2, ff3, google chrome and opera 9.6. Ditto with vb 3.7. Any more hints you can give me?

Differences between 2.2.9 and 2.3.0 versions of includes/local_links_player.php are minor.

- master_settings is renamed ldm_master_settings
- protocol_schemes is renamed ldm_protocol_schemes
- call to ldm_get_mimetype replaced by called to ldm_known_filetype
- calls to vb function iif(x,y,z) replaced by ternary (x ? y : z)
- default howtostream in function get_ldm_playerbit() includes code to handle optional security tag and vbulletin session id

Differences between ldm_get_entrybits() are major, and transplanting the code will certainly break a number of other features.

When you create the entry using the add/edit entry form, fill in the image field with the (local) url of the image file you want to use. It will still create independent thumbnail files for each entry, but these files are usually small by comparison with the master image.

Which options are you selecting on the add category form. Also, try turning off 'GZIP HTML Output' option on vb/admincp/options/cookies and http headers

I'm also having some trouble with some MP3 files. Some of them are playing fine with the JW Player but some just aren't even loading.

I have a feature request :

Can we have an attribut where we can add an 'entree combines'.

For exemple if I have an entree (pdf) nomme 'the book vbulletin' in the categorie book, and an entree (mp3) 'the audio vbulletin' in the categorie audio', I can add an attribut in the entree 'the book vbulletin' where we can see in 'miniature' or a display for that, the entree 'the audio vbulletin'.

Hmmm, jumpy item working seems querystring special characters issue to me

In a playlist if one item contains ? or = or & characters it wont be loaded ( just that item ) and the same for single item without playlist

these chrs must be replaced with:

? → %3F
= → %3D
& → %26
Which can be done easily by str_replace() in php or encodeURIComponent() in JS

Example: http://w00t.tld/a&b.mp3 should be http://w00t.tld/a%26b.mp3 to be loaded by JW MP3 Player

There's a whole admin page in LDM to find and deal with problems like this ldm/admin/mass edits), although it needs careful use.

An uploaded file can become 'broken' if you subsequently change the main admin security settings *local_file_root* and *local_file_root_prefix*

As reported quite widely, swf upload 2.1 (the version provided with LDM) does not work with flash 10. The site has just posted a new beta which is supposed to work with flash 10, so I'll do some checking.

Wimpy button also seems broken with flash 10.

You have two problems.

- The French language file contains an old and incorrect phrase - it should say 'Transf?r?' rather than 'Espace disque utilis?' - i.e the vba module is trying to report the number of bytes downloaded, not the number of bytes stored.

- You have also given all usergroups the LDM permission *can_bypass_bandwidth_limits*. This means that the "Hit recording" process treats all accesses as being 0 bytes long (i.e. no bandwidth used). For this reason, your vba module reports "0 bytes" transferred.

Have you taken a look in the LDM release zip? The vba_modules subdirectory in /release contains modules such as ldm_new.module, which shown the latest releases. The php code for this module is available in /development/vba_modules/php

LDM gets its limits in several ways, but I'm surprised that you are finding that the admin limits are smaller than regular users:

a) The 'master switches' are the php.ini settings *post_max_size* and *upload_max_filesize*. You can't exceed these values.

b) For vb admins, LDM allows uploads up to the smaller of those two values

c) For other users, LDM sets the maximum size on a per filetype basis by looking up the max size setting in the vb attachments table

d) If you've set LDM/admin/settings/upload_maxspace, and the total uploads are close to that limit, filesize is further reduced.

Concerning thread creation, have you set LDM/admin settings/autocreate_username? There's a bug in version 2.2.9-post1 with that setting, fixed in 2.2.9-post3. I think things work ok if you leave the setting blank.

Video size is determined by the video itself when it is encoded. The video can be reduced/ enlarged by some media players, but VB or LDM does not control that setting. Also, the player needs to support the codec used to decode the video and support auto-sizing of the video. So there are several reasons why the video size is not what you want.... none of which is due to VB or LDM.

You have two problems.

- The French language file contains an old and incorrect phrase - it should say 'Transf?r?' rather than 'Espace disque utilis?' - i.e the vba module is trying to report the number of bytes downloaded, not the number of bytes stored.

- You have also given all usergroups the LDM permission *can_bypass_bandwidth_limits*. This means that the "Hit recording" process treats all accesses as being 0 bytes long (i.e. no bandwidth used). For this reason, your vba module reports "0 bytes" transferred.

You can go part-way using the seo options (LDM/admin/seo options, and choose 'extended'), provided you are able to set up your web server to process the resulting seo-friendly urls. Doing so is explained in the ldm wiki.

This will generate urls with mixed alpha+numeric category names (c-alpha-1218) and with numeric (1234) linkids.

It is not straightforward to take this further, because a) the names do not have to be unique, and b) coding seo-translators to recognise and handle arbitrary names is a pig of a problem.

Very strange. I can't immediately reproduce this. Can you confirm which code release you are using, and check if you have modified the links_addnewcat, links_addnewlink_catselect_one, or links_addnewcat_oneentity template.

I'm no expert but these all require plugins. The Windows Media Player plugin handles all three filetypes. The combination of Microsoft's Silverlight and Jeroen Wijering's player will deal with wmv and wma - the JW player features are available through the LDM extra JW-player-extensions. But most users will not have Silverlight installed, so will have to install it.

If you really want 'plugin free' then I think you need to convert to flash and mp3. But I may be wrong.

There is no way to require uploads in order to download. I believe there is a mod in the LDM extras folder where you can require certain # of posts before users are allowed to download - that's it.

If you havn't made significant changes to your includes/local_links_misc.php file, then try deleting that from your server and uploading a default one from your installation package (or undo any recent changes you've made to that file). The error message you've shown is indicating an error in that file.

I have some LDM pages which have no restrictions to guests, and human guests are able to access them correctly. However I have noticed in the 'Who's Online' display that yahoo / google crawlers are being shown an error message, which is shown by an exclamation mark in the 'Who's Online' display (when placing cursor over this it says the googlebot is 'Viewing Error Message'). I think this means the google crawler is being denied access to those pages despite guests having permission to access them. I have no restrictions set in my 'robots.txt' file, ie. all crawlers/ bots are allowed.

Any idea why this could be occuring?

I implemented a mechanism whereby entries in a category 'expire' after a certain number of days, e.g. 10 days. When they expire, they become hidden in that category (at least as far as most users are concerned), and they can optionally be moved to - and become visible in - a new category (which might have another expiry period).

I didn't implement a mechanism to 'autodelete' the expired files, but it is straightforward (I think) to provide a 'plug in' which will delete, e.g., all the expired entries in a given category. I will give this some thought and report back.
Did you give this any thought? This would be really useful for me. Also, does your code support download resumes? And lastly, can I import from DownloadsII into your mod?

Some of my forum members experience this error when trying to download:

They are all in the same usergroup but it only effects a few users. The one's affected have all met any post requirements like the others but still cannot access content.

Somewhere i read about sites like websnapr, some were running with LDM, to create the thumbs i think you must add the size limit to the settings and also a thumbs folder in your server.

I add them manually, but once i tested this... several years ago ^^'

Dobule check your permission. I have used LDM for a few years without any problems.

Is there a way to show the full description of a uploaded File ? I installed this Mod today, so far works great. But a few things I miss.

When i upload a file and i enter the description of this File, lets just say a small manual (nothing endless) and then upload it, the Description only shows one line and then a few dots ...

When I hover above it the browser shows the word "MORE" and when I click it nothing really changes, except that below the Description it just says what Category the file is in.

But all that longer description i added, isn´t shown at all. Is this a bug on my end or is this something known that can be changed somehow ?

Thx Obmop, will try that. I tried DOWNLOADS II before but I discovered a big CPU problem on my Server when you start the download of a bigger File with that Mod. I installed Links & Downloads which has extensive configuration possiblities which is quite overwhelming but most of all Downloads work much better. It doesnt matter if I click a big File or a small file to download, with this Mod here it starts immediately as it should be. Something I miss though.

When someone uploads something, the ADD ENTRY form doesn´t show any way to add a picture which is normally in any Download Script. Sure, you can add one with putting a link to an image on a public imagehosting but thats not a good way. Is there no way to also upload a Image next to the actual File ?

Thats something i really miss. Btw, you got any ideas in which templates that what I asked about above could be ? I contacted the Mod Author a couple of days ago but didnt get any reply yet. Thats the second Download Mod where the Author is not replying on any question. Is that normal here ?

You can asign a thumbnail directly while uploading, I do that on my downloads to maintain control on my folder structure.

Been reading through some of the many posts on here, forgive me if the fix is already posted but i cant seem to see it.

All is fine and working correctly but when our guys are playing things in the juke box at the bottom of the page they see this:

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

There is a little bug in the module ldm_new.php, ldm_hot.php and ldm_random.php with the color of the entree. The color don't change when the entre change.

You have to do the restrictions on each category.

Go to category list, click edit, select "User Group permission" and modified as you want.

If you want to completely disable the LDM Recent Hits and LDM Recent Entries, then go to the Plugins Manager and disable the LDM plugins: "Member Profile My Latest LDM entries" and "Member Profile What's Viewed List."

If you want to keep the LDM profile blocks enabled but make them private so that only the owner can view it, then each user needs to go to VB's "Edit Profile" page and type anything (as the instruction says) into the "My Recent LDM Entries" and "My Recent LDM Hits" fields.

It could well be. I got my host to debug it and they've added in some script (don't ask me what!) which has prevented the lag which stopped files from being streamed. It's not perfect so I would advise users to treat the MP3 aspect on 3.8 with caution.

Yeah, I know how to do this part. In previous versions there was the ability to see what files a specific user had uploaded, but it doesn't appear to be in there anymore :( Thank you though!

Yeah oddly the problem is intermittent. Sometimes I get an error, sometimes I don't.

I am using 3.8.1 and just tried to upload a file, worked perfect, i could browse for files if i was using IE or FF. It must be a firewall or pop up blocker or something.

have u used the 'LDM Kill' extra module to fully delete this mod? u can find it in the installation package u downloaded for this mod.

also try repairing your database in the vbulletin adminCP under 'Maintenence' and 'Repair / Optimize tables'

That's something set in your server config, some webhosts allow you to put a new php.ini inside your web's root.

Did you check the type of file?

It looks like the path to the file is incorrect. I have been using LDM for years without a problem, over 25k files downloads a week. Send me a PM with your information and I can try to help you.

I added a link to a file that is allocated in other server and that when I download that file linked to mi site it will consume my server bandwidth as if it was stored in my own server.
Why?
It seems that my server fowards the linked file instead of downloading directly from the link.
Can that be fixed?

Few queries - first (that I can remember) I've created a few test links...is there any way of putting the link description UNDER the image - by default it goes off to the right and squashes in against user profile. That's if you upload image, linking within the entry gets the desired effect tho :S

Hello, guys!

As you know, I have not been well and it has not been possible to provide any help on this forum for several months. I have very much appreciated the good messages that many people have sent me - it really does help :). The news is that I am in the middle of a course of chemotherapy. It seems to be working but it has the side effect of making one feel very weak and unable to concentrate for more than a short period.

I do not know when I shall be able to resume "full time support" of LDM, but it is by no means a dead product. The big question is really *how much of a rewrite will be needed for vb 4.x* and what will the vb guys themselves provide. I have seen notes about major changes to the attachment system, which will surely impact on LDM.

Concerning the wiki, thanks to ObMob for pointing out that hackers had got at it. I had updated the mediawiki software a couple of weeks ago, and accidently left a door open for those delightful people to replace pages by links to nasty sites. I think it should be back in a fit state again.

So, please bear with me - I enjoy my hobby very much, and I do want to resume it.

It will be a shame if the VB guys change so much that this mod wont work in vb4, they won't understand what they have done, they should employ you to write an official and compatible add on or integration for vb4.

Is there any way to integrate a credit system tied to downloads and a subscription amount? This would permit the monetization of your great mod.

By this I mean a member purchases a subscription for x dollars, downloads have a price value, member downloads an item with a set value which is subtracted from remaining amount credited to member. Ideally, once a member reaches a set value left an email would notify them of x amount remaining and provide a link to subscription renewal.

I know this sounds complicated but I don't know if it is possible.

The vbulletin people added these security tokens a while ago. I think LDM now correctly handles all of them, but if you have an old installation and have any customised LDM templates, there will be this problem. Check your templates.

Got the latest version of vB and no customised LDM templates since I've not done much with it.

i found a bug, pls help to solve it.

i cant upload a 3325 x 2081 jpg image with 800k. The out put is a blank page.
but i can upload a 1920 x 1200 with 900k successfully.

whats wrong??? in vb cp under attachments. the max width and height for jpg images are set to unlimneted. i even try chnaging it to 10000 x 10000. no use :(
