That isn't the correct link for youtube. Just use the url in the browser. My Media is from GB.

Small problem. I cannot figure out which exact template to edit and which code portion to fix the background color of the My Media tab. See attached. I'm referring to the actual tab bg, not video area bg.

Also, seems I have some duplicate templates of GB probably from old version.

Please confirm which ones are correct and which can be deleted.

I was referring to the background of the tab *page*, not the actual bg of the tab itself.

The tab page should be default e4e6f5 color. Only for the GB tab, it shows up as e2e1ea.

Even in usercp, only when you go to the GB profile video area, suddenly ALL the rows to left panel are in the same e2e1ea color instead of the set e4e6f5

It is really odd how this hack sometimes renders a video thumbnail, then other times for the same video file sharing site it only shows up as a hyperlinked url, with url tags added viewable only when editing. Editing it to add media tags then makes it entirely disappear sometimes. Other times it shows up as a hyperlinked url, then later, the media tags get auto-added and it renders as a vid thumbnail.

Does 1.8 fix the 1.5 issue of when the admin cp is set so guests cannot view media or images, 1.5 shows them anyway? 1.5 wouldn't let us change the viewer window size in the hack cp.

Your killing me dude. What does that have to do with what I am telling you. The setup is changing the bbcode call function from media to url. Of course I have everything setup right or I wouldn't have even brought it to your attention in the first place. I'm not going to waste your time bouncing useless information off of you when I didn't setup the mod right. I can change the BBCode Tag Name in the ACP setup to url and it works fine but I'm obviously not going to leave it that way.

I do have nCode image resizer installed and it may be bumping heads with it. I have no idea but it is a possiblity. I do know that I have given you what I thought was rather good descriptive feeback on the problem but I am starting to feel like I'm not doing so well at it now. :confused:

Personally...I just posted the URL. I didn't add or . Our software automatically converted it into a URL. Once I physically added the media code (as there's no button) it converted like it was supposed to.

As for my personal profiles...the "my media" button is there but no videos. There's also the option to edit your profile & add a URL which I did but still nothing under my media.

Unresolved issues running 1.8:

1. Sometimes an M thumbnail is generated instead of a clip from the video site.

2. Sometimes a still image Highslides but does not lightbox.

3. Videos are viewable to those not registered to site even though set otherwise.

4. Sometimes posting the url just creates a text hyperlink and upon edit shows url tags were auto-added

5. Hand adding media tags does not work when the hack doesn't generate media tags by itself.

6. Changing the video viewer size does not result in changing the video viewer size.

If you're using 1.5 with highslide that just how the it is. 1.8 has a smaller footprint but its still noticeable. I'm working on something even smaller though.

I didn't get all the bugs in 1.8 just some of the major ones. I'm doing some paid work again (have to feed the family) and once I'm done I'll push out another version.

What I meant was when a user uploads an image to a post, GB is supposed to render it where when one clicks on the image thumbnail, it does two things:

1. It enlarges the thumbnail to a larger image ala highslide, and it darkens the entire screen with the exception of the image, hence the "lightbox" effect.

We previously had Highslide installed, but since I understand this mod comes with it, we deleted the previous Highslide stuff.

Now most images highslide and then lightbox just fine, but some images do not lightbox, they only highslide to a larger image.

I hope that explains it better.

This is a REALLY cool mod by the way, so I am looking forward to you being able to "put food on the table" ; ) and refining this more. Thanks

Nice mod! I think I have it working well for images and audio/video but PDF's seem to be ignored or simply converted to URL's. I figured there might be a adobe_pdf.php file in extensions but that's apparently incorrect.

Where might I look for the issue? I've located several references to /vb/ and /forum/ hard coded paths in the latest version I installed but don't have the experience to know if that might cause issues...

(Also, should the goldbrick_post.php that's in the zip be empty?)

Update: In trying to diagnose the issues I'm experiencing.. I seem to be able to affect displays by modifying the contents of goldbrick_test. Is this a fluke or is it legitimately using it? (<param NAME="URL" VALUE="info[url]"><param> put me on the hunt as it was missing the $ and the URL flaked out...)

Also, how do we get it to go through all old posts with media tags, or with links to video's and convert them into players? I've even tried re-editing some older posts and the player won't display.

I'm an extremely new newbie and, I really want this damn mod to work out...

Read everything prior to installing and of course, found the latest version which from my limited experience, appears to be incomplete as a stand-alone installation.
I installed it first and had too many issues to list. Uninstalled Goldbrick 1.8.

Installed 1.5 with limited success but entirely too many issues for users... tried installing Goldbrick 1.8 as an Upgrade: Uninstalled Goldbrick 1.8.

Reinstalled 1.5 and modified many templates making minor adjustments to hard-coded /vb/ and /forum/ paths as well as adding missing $ to info ($info) references. Frustrated into Uninstalled Goldbrick 1.5 and deleting all the folders.

Found a site with Goldbrick 1.4. What the hell, might as well try it.
Installed Goldbrick 1.5
Installed Goldbrick 1.8 (Anyone keeping track of time, bandwidth and beer?)

Modified all the references to /vb/ and /forum/ I could located.

Created a little file adobe_pdf.php and added

to goldbrick_player, goldbrick_attach and ?goldbrick_test?. Oddly enough, PDF's work for me. Might not work for anyone else but - it works here...

Whew.. got all that done and found that YouTube, PDF's, MP3 and images are good to go although occasionally it seems a refresh does some good with images... I can live with that. A YouTube profile video works. I'm afraid to attempt an attachment just yet..

And then, the vbAdvanced issue. I added fancy.css, jquery-1.2.3.pack.js, query.metadata.js, jquery.pngFix.pack.js and jquery.fancybox-1.0.0.js to the header replacement area thinkin' that's what was meant by the comment you referenced however - apparently, that isn't what was meant. So.. out of desperation again, I added $vboptions[bburl] in front of all the references to /goldbrick/ within goldbrick_header...

No more errors on the front page.

Next up, I want to figure out why wmv's aren't working properly, why the height and width elements have no default or sometimes have no values in the presented page (view source) and what I can do to export all of my changes and make it 'safe' against updates ; )

Again, admitting that I am but a lowly new user and forgetting the alterations I apparently did not need to make to get even the slightest resemblance to a functional mod, could you please take a moment or two to educate me further?

The issues with the hard coded path would indicate that even you would have issues with either one of the two (/vb/ or /forum/) however, for those folks with /forums/ I would think there would be continued problems.

Rather than tell me that it works for the developer, could you let please me know where to look for the continuing issue with wmv files (nothing displays but media tags are there). Height, width and title are still empty elements (view source) , "test" or "This Is A Test" is not what was typed when jpg's are linked but it's there everytime.

And finally, in Functions_public.php, is it really supposed to be 'goldbrick_test'?

No-one appreciates free more than I do but I'm relatively sure that when we read about "zero problems" while easily linked solutions are pasted in but other questions seemingly disappear into the fray - folks tend to get a little aggravated: Free or otherwise.

Taking me as an example, I've been semi scolded that it's free after all, it's a test after all, and there are zero issues when you do it - after all... I still need a little support on the wmv front, or the titles, or the width and height. Rather than perform the Uninstall and simply leave this project like that, I'd prefer to make it work but obviously, I'll need to make it work with the support message of "it works for me"?

Don't rely on a free ("free time") supported mod still in beta stage. Both of us have put a lot of time into this modification and when I see users whining about how it's taking too long or how something isn't working perfectly it makes me mad and regret ever working on it in the first place.

Wouldn't you guys be happier then? If it never existed?

Again the site has to have a way to pull the video thumbnail. Godtube didn't at the time I added it.

You can change the default gif to whatever you want.

I have just installed this on my newly upgraded (3.7.1) forum and when we navigate to the forum it's not there but showing this error:

Please HELP! I have followed all the instructions and have successfully installed it on another forum without any problems. :confused:

Edit: I have re-uploaded the bbcode_create.php file but it has made no difference - my forum is still not showing - just the message.

I panicked! My other site is set up for php 5 and I thought I had for this too, but hadn't - I've fixed it by updating the .htaccess file and did the php5.ini whilst I was at it. Was gonna delete this but it may help someone else sometime. Thanks for a wonderful mod!

Okay, I've been working on this for a while and reading posts in here but haven't managed to solve it.

I've upgraded to 1.8 but can't get my thumbnails to show in the lightbox. I've triple checked the settings, forum and user permissions - I don't think the issue is there.

The videos are working just fine so I am at a bit of a loss as to why the images aren't. This works A1 in my other forum where I have the same GB settings. The only difference I can see is that this forum has bigger thumbnails. I have updated all relevant counters just in case that would solve it but it changes nothing. Any ideas?

We love this mod and appreciate all the work you have already and continue to put into it - a mega thank you for letting us have it free of charge.

Edit: Have resized thumbnails and removed borders. Also re-updated counters. No change.

Here's another test version before I put it out live.

I switched back to highslide but I change the way it looks. If you don't like it you can change it to what suits your needs. All highslide settings are in the goldbrick_header template.

I added Zend Cache for media cache so it doesn't have to hit the database if you're not using vb cache. To use it chmod the goldbrick/cache folder so it's writable by the server. Then turn on Goldbrick Cache in Goldbricks options.

This version will empty the gb_cache, gb_media and vb's postparsed tables in the database to prevent any errors.

Back to highslide with a packed version.
Fixed media embed
Fixed attachments

It will drop the templates it doesn't need. The gbs templates are for something in the future ;)

THe next previous has always been there. Just use the arrow buttons on your keyboard.

1.8 has most of that fixed. If you have a custom template then you need to make sure the js and css are being included. I've installed this on a number of forums with zero issues.

This mod also does images. I'm using the full highslide packed of the latest version so you shouldn't need two files. But I don't see the point of the other mod if you use this one.


The only reason is that it broke the Image viewer control bar that highslide viewer uses and my users have become accustomed too.82663

1. I have previously been using TheGeek's Auto-Media Embedder ("AME") for my media links (e.g., YouTube, Amazon, etc.). Will the appropriate media links be auto-converted to Goldbrick?

The problem was with: vBulletin Options --> Goldbrick Media Options --> Use Goldbrick New Style [Yes/No]

What was happening for me was that I'd click the media link in the post I'd created, and the Goldbrick player would flyout. But, then before my video (media) was shown in the Goldbrick Player, the player would disappear from that page (ie window), and the video would instead show in the full page with the video (media) link in the address bar, together with my post link at the end of the media link... as though I'd clicked the link (and the link's target was target="_self"). Does that make any sense?

I've tried to explain the problem as it happened. Sorry, if I'm a bit unclear in explaining. In short, the player disappeared, and the video (media) replaced whatever was on that page (ie window) <-- I hope this is a bit clearer.!

Anyway, the way I've got the problem sorted out is by selecting [NO] to the --> Use New Goldbrick Style [Y/N] option.

I hope this helps anyone having similar problems.

All the media info that is stored in the database is put into the cache system to eliminate any extra database calls. It's mostly for those who turn off vb's Cached Posts Lifespan but I still noticed some queries with vb's cache turned on.

I cannot find $template_hook[usercp_navbar_bottom]. This is what calls this to the userCP. So how can I edit this, and move it where I want to? During installation I got no errors. I just cant see any of the Goldbrick bitfields in the forum permission area, usergroup permission area or the extension section of the Options. I've gone into debug mode and tried rebuilding bitfields and had no change in behavior.

Yes you can. If they are just links all you have to do is post the link and hit reply.

If it's a flv file you just post the link and hit reply. That site you linked to would required a new site file. It doesn't just give you think link to the flv file.

I will PM send you a link to the Vimeo videos. Youtube videos work fine, but YT video quality sucks.

In Vimeo, the videos screen default size is perfect, but GB makes it half the size. When one clicks in a post to use GoldBrick media options, it appears that one can change the viewer size, but I cannot set it to use the same default size as Vimeo. With the demise of Stage6, Vimeo seems to be the new standard for streaming HD content, hence the need for GB to interact flawlessly with GB.

I am on a Mac too.

The size is the same as the embed tag that vimeo give you. They only have the bigger size video on their site.

If you want to change it open up the vimeo.php file in goldbrick/includes/sites and change the with and height to whatever you would like.

For the people using version 1.9, how it is working for you?

I'v got same problem as I had in 1.5 , an almost never-ending horizontal scroll bar in every page which caused by Highslide.
Tested it again and again and now I'm sure it's a conflict between highslide and being right to left (one of my sites is in Persian which is a RTL language and I have this issue only on this one, the LTR ones are working just perfect).

With Vimeo apparently the html embed code sets the default size of the video, but sets it much smaller at 400 x 300 than the 16:9 format of 600 x 350. Now we don't use the html code as vB says enabling HTML is a security risk, but perhaps GB grabs the sizing somehow.

I know in the GM media options it appears one can change the viewer size but that hasn't worked for me yet.

The big issue still is when we take a Vimeo video and post the url and hit reply, GB as of late adds url tags instead of media tags. Manually adding media tags doesn't work either. YouTube works perfect still.

I was using Any Media Player before, and I installed this player for better options. I had an existing flv video uploaded which was using Any Media Player. After Installing, I went to options and changed the title of the Media Player. Before it said " Any Media Player 3.0.4" I thought that after changing the setting, it would change, but it didn't. it still says " Any Media Player 3.0.4" instead of what I changed it to.

Also is the full screen working for the flv? I noticed there is an icon to make it full screen, but nothing happens after I click it.

Finally, would it be possible to remove the border around the video player? I would like it to just just the media player in the thread, without the border around it.

Thanx for the MOD, it's great, because it works and does what it says on the tin.

However, I've a little thing that I need for the Goldbrick system, as I'm sure many other's would eventually need to have as a legal requirement.

With the advent of a lawsuit against Google in America, in which Google will be forced by law to pass on a list of usernames and IP addresses for all their memebrs who watch their videos, and will eventually pass to other video sharing sites (I'm sure it's Google who have the lawsuit against them), I feel it is necessary for me to provide a notice on my board when someone submits a media link to the Goldbrick system that states I am not responsible for the media they submit, and should notify blah blah if they spot an illeagal video.... blah blah blah... A disclaimer.

So, is it possible to have a disclaimer pop up when you go to submit a link to the GoldBrick system?

I don't agree with presenting a disclaimer myself, but considering media companies are trying to crack down on video sharing (even though my members who submit the links aren't even responsible for ileagal videos being on YouTube, Google and other video sharing sites), the disclaimer should be there by legal requirements.

Installed. things seem to be doing fine. But I can't get highslide popup. When clicking on thumbnail, it just open new tab in firefox and open media in that tab. I checked chmod for .js and swf files and set them to 755. But no difference :(

Got something weird happening.

Installed and running 1.91 for awhile now and today was just looking at everything in the plugin manager and looking at the Goldbrick Product section I have a lot of plugins that have lines through the titles and set as not active. These are the ones lined out and set as inactive:

Any ideas why these would be inactive? Could another hack be causing this? Or are they set this way from the last update of 1.8, after upgrading from 1.5 to 1.8 there was only one that was set as inactive - goldbrick edit update process.

Go to your admincp > forum manager.

Select one of your forums - click edit.

Scroll down, my settings for Goldbrick are second from the bottom.

You should see "Goldbrick Settings" and Enable Goldbrick in this forum yes or no.

You have to set this for it to work in whichever forum you want.

in the download file for Goldbrick take a look in the goldbrick_doc folders, theres one called usage that says how to use it.

Basically you just copy and paste the link of the video into a post. If you got it set up right you should see the video and be able to play it.

NICE MOD! I've been using it forever now. I have a problem though. How do I go about changing the flash video player's default size? It defaults to 320 x something, but I want mine (when playing flv video in GoldBrick) to default to 720 x 405. Where can this be changed? I can't find the code in the AdminCP and changing the default size in the Goldbrick options doesn't work... HELP! :eek:

I'm having a bit of trouble with some videos that one of my users are trying to embed:

The page also gives me a message asking me to install some missing plugins. The problem is, is that when I click on the button, the plugin can't be found...

The file type is .mpg. I've tried to view these videos in both Firefox 3.0 and IE ver 7, and neither will allow me to view them:(

I coped with the problem, it works and was working, but there are some nuances.

Yes I am. This was not the thing.

First, I turned on the option 'Use Goldbrick Media system when uploading an attachment'. After that the mod recognized my .mov file when I attached it, but refused to play it. It said that the QuickTime plugin was not installed though it was.

Second, I tried to make a hyperlink to a copy of the same .mov file placed to my server. The mod didn't recognized the link. When I manually added around the link, the mod recognized it and started to play.

Anyway, thanks for your help, nix! :) (though the mod doesn't play my .mov attachment, so I've removed the attachment)

And one more thing. The window cuts the QT player's control bar a little. I tried to increase the window size, but this was helpless, it doesn't have an influence on it at all. You can look at it here:

just another question (and its the only thing keeping me from using the new version) is i hate the defacto image for the highslide video. is there any way (hopefully with the caching stuff) that you could put a graphic there of the video instead of the one graphic? its the only reason im still using the old view is it has that pre-render screenshot of the video.

and i know a few sites do it right (youtube seems to be the only one so far... atleast that we use) but it needs to work with all of them.

You can change the default image if you like. If it shows the default image instead of a thumbnail for the video it's because the site makes it impossible for me to grab it or I just haven't coded it in yet.

It's fixed in version 1.9 which is posted a couple of pages back and the think should show in this post. If you want you ca just remove that line from the php code also. safe_mode will be removed from PHP 6 and it really just gives users a false sense of security.

Moving attachments to the file system in in your vbulletin adminCP. You also have to make a folder and give it the right permissions.

I have a version that is pretty much ready to go. I hope to get some free time this week to release it.

But, on another note: I would like for Goldbrick to throw up a big sign to my members when they try to post a media link, saying something like "You accept full responsibility for the media you are trying to submit. By clicking the ACCEPT button, you confirm that the media link you are submitting is not associated with any activities deemed illegal (in whichever country the server resides in). Blah blah blah,,,, and so on" And, then have a HUGE button with the word ACCEPT written across it, and another that says cancel. Or, something on these lines.

Is there a way to do this ^^
