I posted a username and password on this site for people to help me with my enquiry on a LIVE BOARD.

Someone (who can't seem to control their fingers) started banning and deleting users, and deleting threads.

This is classed as messing around with things that are not theirs and I will take further action against that person.

The IP has been logged as *** IP Removed *** and will be reported to their ISP.

Host Name: *** IP Removed ***

This information has been recorded, and if this post gets removed from this site, then I will report to VBulletin.com as this site is supposed to be for HELP not to have things DELETED.

I urge the moderation team to take this seriously!!

Uhm, I'm sorry, but what does this have to do with vBulletin? It doesn't.

You posted the username and password here, publically??? That's just poor judgement on your part.

Good luck with that...

Yes I am posting it publically cus if they have the bad manners to mess around with MY SITE then its only fair that I make whoever it is public.

If you left your credit card details on the forum, would you expect someone to let you know without using a penny?

You should have at least restricted access to the account, heck you shouldn't have posted it here sending it by private message would have been more appropriate.

It could have been just some random visitor how may not even had an account here, I guess at least now you know to safeguard all you details. Never post a password no matter how insignificant it may seem, the Internet isn't the best of places to give out details.

No, what I meant was - Did you post your username and password for your site here, publically?

@ Opserty

I realise this, but it was as a general post for someone to help me with my UserCP request. I didn't PM it because I had no one to PM it to, as it was a general request to everyone to have a look, not to mess around with my forum.

Yes I understand that it may have been a random visitor, but at least this way, they will know that I am on to them and have started an IP log on their PC.

I thought this site was decent enough for people to help you, not to start messing up other people's sites.

Other than that, can anyone help me with my username request located https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=154312

@da420

I posted a "Test" username and password in the programming section under UserCP

These details are now invalid as I have blocked access to that account.

Alright, keep in mind that's a bad idea. Generally, yes, most people here are very helpful and would never do something like that. But, I would highly recommend to never post your username and password publically, especially considering this is a public site that anyone can access with or without registering.

Your situation is unfortunate, But... At least you learned something, right?

Hex_legend
08-05-2007, 08:13 PM
Yeah.

The point I am trying to get across is that I am looking for someone to help me but as it was a general request to all coders, I wanted them to take a look at what I wanted done before they messaged me saying whether they could do it.

Still urgently need help if someone wants to play around a bit.

I would highly suggest also that you do not post passwords and usernames in an open forum. You may end up in a worse situation than losing threads and users.

At least now its been sorted. It's given me less faith in coming to this site to be honest, I have posted requests with no replies from anyone, so it feels like I would be better on my own anyway

Come on guys, I think it would be funny of the mods here matched up the IP and exposed the fool who took advantage of this guy for being trustworthy. I do agree it should not have been posted, but there is nothing wrong with wanting to trust people. Get off his back for posting it.

Mods what do you say..... ??? expose this User.

As far as no one responding, Dismounted posted that it was a bad idea to attempt what you requested in that thread (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=154312) (for obvious reasons).

@SinisterPain.

Dismounted said that it was a bad idea for me to attempt it as I knew nothing about PHP, which is fine, I understand that, But I am looking for someone who can help me with the request, so that doesn't tie up with anything that dismounted has said.

Your an even bigger idiot than they guy who did it to post your username and password here. I mean it's a big site. How can you complain about this. You publicly gave out admin access on your website. How can you not expect this to happen. Very poor judgement on your part. Not everyone on this site is friendly and willing to help.

Not that you have anything to judge me for, but it was a demo account. At the end of the day, I don't appreciate some irish person calling me an idiot. For all I know, it could have been you who did it!
You have no right to judge me or to slag me off. It was a demo account for what I wanted help with, which is why I posted the details.

So if you have nothing nice to say, keep it shut.

Demo account or not you still gave admincp access to 1000's of people and I appologize if you took offence but if you don't learn now you never will.

This is really ridiculous.

First off: It is not the community's fault that your board got defaced.

Second: It was not necessarily someone in the community who defaced your board.

Third: No matter how much you "trust the community" you posted your details on a board that was accessible not only to "the community" but also the entire internet.

If you had posted your request on a board that was only open to registered or registered+licensed users, then your complaints would have merit. But in all likelyhood the person who stole your details was just a random person strolling across the internet who may or may not have had a vbulletin.org account or a valid vbulletin license.

I always find it funny that when the topic comes to an end, someone always has to have their say.

At the end of the day, vbulletin.org requires you to validate your licence before downloading any hacks / mods so I thought it was safe enough for someone to help me.

Instead of people actually offering to help me with my coding problem, I get people slagging me off instead.

Attilitus, why don't you stop wasting your time posting pointless messages in threads that have come to an end and actually browse the boards looking for people to help and post in topics that actually mean something.

I don't see you posting in my thread that asks for help, yet you have to have your say on this one!

I'm not being a jerk, all I'm saying is that people have said the same things as what you said, so there really is no need to repeat. If you read the posts that I made, I said that I am aware that I made a mistake.

Don't slate me for a mistake. I've already admitted it, no need to keep rubbing it in!

Im sorry if it seemed like I had an attitude problem, I'm just fed up of people telling me how "cr*p" im doing. I know that I don't know anything about VB, but I am trying to learn.

If anyone could give me a bit of advice on my usercp thread, I'd really appreciate that.

As everyone has said, that was a bad idea.

You should let your members know what happened. They may have had private information stored on your site somewhere. Information that this person now has access to. Maybe they PM'd something to a friend (a bank password, credit card number, who knows) or maybe they're simply using an email address that they don't want to get out there.

A heads up that someone may have accessed that information would be expected.

True, it wasn't the wisest thing to do, posting account info in a public forum, but he's learned his mistake... there's no reason to resort to calling him names, let's be nice :)
