Wanted to add when I disabled VBa it still did not work.

Also I deleted the first thread I had (not the actual thread just delete it fro the force thread option) and tried to do a different thread to see if it would work and now the new thread wont show up on the list of forced threads even though it says saved when I do it.

Hello,

I installed it on www.hallagulla.com/urdu but after installation I found user get bit annoyed with a forced thread and majority of users requesting to have this feature a little enhanced if possible. What users on my forum suggesting is:

- Show little bit description of the thread (say 200 or 500 character) and allow users to click on click here to read with an option to [b]read later[b].

This will give some flexibility to users.

Just wondering if this is possible to have such a feature in future release if possible. If not, is it possible for you to give me some guidance/directions to work it out myself ?

My Guess is, we all have our own reasons why we want everyone forced to read something. In my case I want to know that every member reads the "Rules of the Forum". If all of our member follow the rules of the forum, we don't really have many problems with our membership. It's currently the only thing we are using it for and in my mind, if they are not willing to read the rules, then I am more than likely going to have cooperation problems with that member in the future.

It just seems to me that if there's an option to read the thread at their leisure, that it kind of defeats the purpose of the modification. The one thing I do know is that this mod should be used sparingly. Save it for the can't miss and priority announcements, and not for every multiple threads multiple times a day.

I could imagine, though, where this mod expanded, that one day it would encompass some notification features. Low priority reads for example, could just put a notification in the user bar, kind of like the Private Messages do with the little flashing letter. But until then, it should really be used judiciously.

I always had 1.2 on my 3.6.4 forum and worked fine.
Uninstalled that one from templates and plugins, and installed 2.0.
Also editted the global.php and XML file.

I dont have the option to select "force this post" in the forum, the option isnt there!
It is in admincp and plugins.

Any idea?

Yes, it's in your ACP under:

Threads & Posts, then click Force Read Thread, then click Add New Thread > then get the ID of the thread (numbers) you've created, and type it into the ThreadID box, and save!

Hope that helps!;)

Could anyone tell me the name of the phrase that this mod uses when it redirects you to the point "Admins would like you to view this thread...... Blah, blah, blah?" I would like to edit it to help with some users that cant read and understand what this hack is trying to do.

EDIT: Nevermind I found it.

Hi, what does the "Force Read Order" mean or do exactly?

ANd also, I want to set it to be SIte wide on my forum, but I want it to show the "YOu must read this thread first message" ALL the time and EVRYTIME a user signs in to my forum. Right now it works, but only the first a user logs in do they see the message. After they log out and back in they dont see the message anymore and I would like them to, and also for this to happen to ALL usergroups....

hope that question makes sense@!

Tahnks in advance for any info@! I luv this mod....installed clicked!

If I may offer some friendly criticism...don't you think that may get annoying to have to read the same thread every time your return to a forum? I would stop coming. I know its none of my business but I thought another perspective might help out.

can u do an addition that admin can manually write what that thread is about instead of admin want you to read this.i think the first thing user gets in his mind is he did something wrong and he is getting a warning.but if we can manually mention like if the thread for voting or forum rules it will work better, its just a thought.i would love to have that option.thanks

if you open the actual plugin with a text editor (i use notepad2) press CTRL+F and search for this text :

The administrators want you to view a thread before you continue to browse the forum.

you can now replace this with what you wish it to say, then press save and import the product again, remember to select overwrite :-)

Firstly, rude tone not appreciated. Your first explanation was hard to understand without an example (given in your second post). Remember that we are here to try and help, so being nice gets you a lot further than insults.

I believe you're asking for something outside of the scope of this modification. Perhaps a few more examples of what you'd like it to accomplish would help us understand what you're getting at.

As it stands now, you choose the areas the person can view without being forced to read the thread. If they enter an area (or forum) of your choosing, they will be forced to read the thread to continue.

If I'm understanding it correctly, you want people to be able to access certain areas, but sections of templates will be hidden until they read the thread (i.e. they can enter their PM box, but not be able to view PM content until they read a thread)?

Depending on your implementation, it simply might be better to force people to read the thread upon entering the PM area (in the example above) instead of trying to get fancy by allowing limited access.

Sorry, I haven't seen if it is possible to 'fix' this... if a member is in the middle of submitting a new post when you mark a thread as a Forced Read one, if they preview their post it will force them to read the thread.

To go along with that, if someone Submits a new post at that time, they are forced to read the thread and their post is not actually submitted.

I preferred the "areas" instead of forums (i.e. UserCP, Index, etc).

I uninstalled an older version to upgrade to the latest but now if I force a thread nothing happens. If I put in a thread to be forced I get the Saved Sucessfully message but the information doesn't get written to the DB as it doesn't show up on the ACP forced threads page.

I'm using VB3.6.8.

e: Having checked the DB I can see the tables have been created but they're empty so the data isn't getting to them somehow.

Hello Abe1.

Apologies if this has been addressed but i see that when i upgraded from v1.2 to 2.0, the "Manage Force Thread Reading" is no longer available in the Thread Tools drop down menu.

is there a reason this was omitted in v2.0 ? :)

note: since i didn't see it, i went ahead and removed the v1.2 template edits [see below] and then reinstalled v2.0 but no option still wasn't showing within Thread Tools.....i thought having it available was a nice way to quickly access a particular thread.

Force Users to Read a Thread version 1.2

FOR UPGRADE AND FRESH INSTALLATIONS!

1) Import product-abe1_forceusersreadthread into PRODUCTS. Allow Overwrite "YES" (admincp -> Plugin System -> Manage Products -> [Add/Import Product])

2) Do the template edits

in SHOWTHREAD:

find:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<div><label for="ao_rrd"><input type="radio" name="do" id="ao_rrd" value="removeredirect" />$vbphrase[remove_redirects]</label></div>
--------------------------------------------------------------------

AFTER place this:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<!-- Start Abe1 Force Users to Read a Thread -->
<div><label for="ao_mfr"><input type="radio" name="do" id="ao_mfr" value="forceread" />$vbphrase[manage_force_thread_reading]</label></div>
<!-- End Abe1 Force Users to Read a Thread -->
--------------------------------------------------------------------

find:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<option value="removeredirect">$vbphrase[remove_redirects]</option>
--------------------------------------------------------------------

AFTER place this:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<!-- Start Abe1 Force Users to Read a Thread -->
<option value="forceread">$vbphrase[manage_force_thread_reading]</option>
<!-- End Abe1 Force Users to Read a Thread -->
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Done.

Click 'install' in the thread you downloaded this from.

Done

1. The thread ID is the number at the end of a thread URL after the t=. For instance, this thread is: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=151737 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=151737) The thread ID for this thread is 151737

2. If you have more then one thread set to force-read, that controls the order in which they'll be forced to read them.

for many months, our site was really slow [page loads] and couldn't figure out why.

i recently disabled the plugins/hooks in the ACP and the site became lightning fast!

i started looking at each installed product to find which was causing it and it turned out to be this hack.

not sure if it is a conflict with another hack or not.

anyways, i was able to confirm it had something to do with this hack because when i re-enabled this product, the site became dreadfully slow again until i disabled it.

i tried uninstalling and removing the 2 uploaded files and then reinstalling but we can still feel the lag until i disable it again.

anyways, just wanted to inform in case someone else had my experience with this hack.

it is still a useful product and we used it to get donations going for our site so i appreciate the work Abe1 did for us.

cheers. :)

Many times 2 mods will conflict with each other causing a slow down ... This mod has never slowed down my server at all... Different hardware I guess ...

I don't like the new version of this hack so I want to resort back to the old version, does anybody know if version 1.2 will run on 3.6.11 ?

Hello,

because of an "bad Situation" in a Forum i've just installed it, and it seems to work great in 3.7.4 (German Version).

Easy to use and completely installed in about 2 Minutes.
Thanks for this Add-on.

Has anyone else experienced very high server loads with this enabled on v3.6.9?

I'm running CentOS 5 on a Dual Xeon Cpanel server
PHP 4.4.8
MySQL 4.1.22
XCache 1.22 with XCache Datastore caching enabled via another Mod

And it drove the mysqld process's through the roof!
Server loads jumped from 0.50 to 3.00-5.00 and even as high as 7.18 until I disabled the Mod.

I tried disabling XCache and reenabled eAccelerator. No joy
Disabled the Datastore caching, same result.

Any help greatly appreciated :)
I really need this feature badly.

BTW - It does not matter if I have a thread setup to be 'Force Read' or not. Server loads rise the same.

It works great for me, as long as I have it selected for all forums. If I specifically target a single forum, the user is asked to read the notice each time they visit that forum. Over and over again.

Anyone have any problems with this mod not allowing members to log in to the site? I used the 3.7 version and numerous people could not log in to the site until I disabled it.

Any known product conflicts? I really want to use this mod.

The older version of this mod worked nicely, but when I upgraded to the most recent version I had the same issue as you on my 3.6.12 board. I've uninstalled it due to this.

The one previous to this, unfortunately I didn't save the zip file of the previous version so I had to uninstall the hack completely, don't know if the author or anyone else still has the previous version.

Dear Author,

I installed the hack and it works proper like it should.
Thanks for your great afford and work for this community.

Anyone out there who can help me to make a little workaround?
I want to have the option to force user to read it when I do create a thread and not to have to go to the ACP

I have a little imagination about it:
Pseudo Code Start
if conditional groupid (there we go and place admins and mods groupid)
Checkbox for "Force User to Read" & dropdown to check the groups to force
if end
Pseudo Code End

Anyone out there who can help me a little further?
We do have 3 Admins, 3 Coaches and 5 from Orga who sould be able to use the function without having (all of them) permission to the ACP and it seems to be quite more comfortable for me.

Thnx in advantage

Installed the hack, and got the message it is installed. It shows up in the product manager, I have it in the VBulletin options, and the plugin is "active'

However, I do not get that extra tab in the collumn underneath "threads and posts" that enables me to force members to read a thread. What is wrong and how can I remedie it?

I use VBulletin 3.8.2

You have to go to the Admin cp to use it, bit of a schlep really as you have to know the thread ID before you do that.:(

Thanks, but that is the problem: in the AdminCP I do not get that option. I have tried both versions of the hack, and it says they are active, I have it in the VBullletin options, but I cannot get the encircled option in the threadstab.

Installed it on my 3.8.4p1 and my server load went through the roof to the point where the board stopped responding. Once I disabled this mod the load went right back down to normal. I only have 4 other mods installed (mobile detection, threadban user, phpadsnew and vipers youtube hack).

Do not use in 4.1.4

It will cause your user profiles to mess up and the blog. Just letting everyone know. This is what happened to me.

Maybe thats because its not for 4.1.4, nothing from the 3.8 series will work with 4.0 series...maybe you should write a tutorial on that.

There is no reason to be a smart ass. I was just saying so people do not use it. I forgot to look at the versions etc. Was in a hurry and needed this. I think you should write a tutorial on being an ass hole.
