But, is it going to be a paid for mod?

I notice on his forums, the usercp area has this, under Paid Subscriptions

vbBux / vbPlaza Member Subscription
Purchase this subscription to be able to downloaded the latest vbBux / vbPlaza anytime you want.

1 year - $80
6 months - $50

I think he is just testing the subscription thing...maybe? Can't wait till v2, even though I haven't really seen much that has changed by that I mean a v2 is supposed to look entirely different. A month is a long time, so maybe we'll see.

I'm guessing he had no incentive on supporting a free version, but now he has, if he's going to charge upwards of $50-$80 for the script.

Would have been nice to post something on the release thread here at vb.org, since people have been practically begging for support, and the staff had to step in and remove the download?

Deimos

I'd imagine a post saying "This is being scrapped, but I've got V2 coming out!.....oh but you'll have to pay to use it" wouldn't have gone down well :P

Assuming he is charging for it, which it looks like he is.

When he says
3) It will no longer be supported at vB.org, it will be supported HERE so I can better keep track of things.

Does that mean it won't be released here :o

I think so

Now here's a question and please, just humor me.

Why would I pay, especially that kind of loot, to download a hack where the previous hack suffered a catastrophic failure and destroyed my board and the creator not only didn't bother to address it, he disappeared for months?

Paying for it gives you more rights. Buying sth is a contract froim point of view of law, and so is your right to support if he offers it within the same deal. I hope CMX is aware of these issues.

Generally, I think it is good that it will be paid hack because it will guarantee some level of quality and security of hack (hopefully). For this reason I am willing to pay.

He offered it before for free so he had no duty whatsoever to support it.

I get that but others did state that they paid for the last version as well (now what they exactly paid for I'm not clear on) and they got left hanging just like the rest of us. If this was something as simple as a mood hack or post thank you or adding bb coding that if it messes up gives you a white page or whatever, then it's not a real big issue. However, this hack decimated boards completely. He knew there was a problem and even a reassuring word from him would have put folx at ease but nothing came from him for months and now he's back with a newer version and he's even vague regarding that info...I'm not feeling confident about this...

I have absolutely no problem paying for a quality product but at the same time, I'm not willing to put my site at risk again without any real support and guarantees of it not failing like it did. There aren't even any assurances that he'll even stick around the next time...

I have to agree with Aurora.

I also disagree that he didn't have a responsibility to support the hack. If you read through that great big long thread, you'll see that quite a few people donated $. Meaning they invested in the developement of this hack (me included, and I'm not talking just $1 here or there, either).

Then there's an exploit and we get dropped like a hot potato?? Sorry, but I wouldn't purchase the new one from him for all the tea in China.

After witnessing the lousy treatment Aurora and others received, I'm certainly not jumping on the vPlaza bandwagon...I'm quite happy with what I've got, thank you.:)

how much is he charging?

More importantly, what were you promised when you paid money to him?

If someone sells a product to you, they are only required to support it if they mention support at the time of sale. I've seen paid subscriptions in the same way as buying somethng on eBay. Unless specifically written, I don't expect any support from any paid hacks.

no, it looks like he will release a free version here, but he will only give support for it on his site, not on this site

It's been so long I forgot about it til I saw it disabled in my mods and decided to check.

I'm too tired to be excited, but my members would faint from excitement. Not that I'm gonna mention it, just in case, but still.

Well cmx has done a great job releasing a new version of this hack since its one of the best hacks within vbulletin.org and alot of us was waiting for this.

Now i can see that he is going to charge some dollars for his work and i think its more than normal that he should charge that amount of money in order to keep the good work up and also everyone knows how time consuming this hack might be or helping newbis to get it work on their site.

And also what im seeing in here is some people that is giving alot of mouth for a free of charge script.

VbPlaza has been one of the best scripts ever for the vbulletin and now that it is comming out alot of you its talking too much rubish (sorry for my expression) against cmx and his work.

What can i say its just thanks to cmx for undertaking the work again and relising a new version of it!

It was very time consuming for me to rebuild my site after his "free of charge" hack destroyed it. You wanna jump into bed with him? No one's stopping you...go right ahead but I'm not going to glue my lips to his butt and sing his praises just because he's suddenly back. That last software wasn't just a little bitty glitch - it was a major problem so don't come in here and jump on me and others because we're questioning his lack of response to the last problem.
