been going for 6 years now

I allow Mp3 and photo attachments.

Its what the sys admins grumble about a lot.. The size of the attachment file(s)

Should I cut back?

Prune old attachments?

Allow no further new uploads?

The files are separate from the database

Its been a cool feature of the site so far.. but I don't want it to be a nail in the sites coffin.

Tips please!!!

Many thanks

If you haven't had any problems up until now, I suggest you leave it alone ;)

Thanks

What I wonder is, the the forum keeps growing, can this situation go on for ever or do very large forums, just have to stop accepting file uploads at some stage?

Well obviously somewhere along the lines you will run out of room. As long as your system can handle the space, I'd say leave it. If it's been working for 6 years now, should be good for a while longer.

when the time comes that i run out of space, attachments will be moved from /home to a new location on a new drive, probably a 1TB sata. slow and big :) perfect for attachments :)

Wouldn't uploading mp3s violate the server policy? Since it is apparently someone else material, and most likely copyrighted...?

No, that is not allowed (as you point out) these are peoples own musical works.

Do you think it would be possible to serve the attachments from a NAS back up at the server co?
