Hey guys,
I'm really sorry about not being around much lately... there've been all sorts of issues, mostly dealing with school and my dad having an unexpected major surgery; my life has not had a lot of free time. I'm going out of town for the next couple weeks, and would really like to be able to start working on this again when I get back, but there's really no guarantees that it'll happen right away. If someone would like to take it on as their own hack, I'm fine with that, but if not, I'll definitely get back to improving it this summer either way.

Not to sound selfish, but part of the issue is money as well. I've been programming for a third of my short life, and making some decent money... I figured, with all of the people offering donations in the original thread for someone to fix this up, that working on this might have some monetary benefit. I have yet to receive a single cent from it. I don't mind doing free open-source work at all, or I wouldn't have done this in the first place, but do understand that, as a result of not getting anything out of improving the vBMS, this takes a lower priority to the paid hacks and web design work I do.

Thanks for your understanding... I really do enjoy working on this project, and will be glad to return to it as soon as I can, but it's just not the highest thing on my priority list right now and as such I can't offer a definite timeline for anything.

I have disabled this untill it's updated as i'm finding more and more problems.
Flood checking set to 1 won't let user send emails at all, i also had a new user that had not verified his email in vb but still gained access to vbms even though i had access set to No for users awaiting email comfirmation.
parts of vbms did seem ok before i upgraded vb but now it don't seem to work very well at all.

Try re-uploading vbms_checkmail.php sounds like something might have been corrupted on the transfer as line 4 should just be part of a comment block.

Well I've "fixed" the issue with no number of attachments being shown.

In the template "VBMS_NEW",youll find lots of


$bbuserinfo['vbms_permissions']


replace them with



$bbuserinfo[vbms_permissions]


Seems that the single quotes was what was screwing it up for me ;/

this hack seems to be quite buggy. installed it a week ago and now my vbms_messages table is 750+MB in size Killing my server (2.8GHZ + 2GB RAM) (9.0 8.9 8.5 load) ... 1000x copies of same email been saved :o and only 45people are using it.

Quota system does not seem to work and people can bypass it...

Cron seem to run all the time when a user/guest visits the forumhome...

I installed it on my live forum, have not made it available to members yet, and so far so good. 0 errors, 0 bugs found. I haven't read through all 19 pages, but I plan to go through all of the pages and read bugs and fixes so I can be proactive about any bugs that I personally haven't found yet.

Edit: After trying some extensive tests, the only real bug I've found on my live forum *THUS FAR* are attachments not showing up in the emails when I try sending a test attachment to my alias address. When I reply and attach an image, that does work. I did try removing the single quotations from each instance of the $bbuserinfo['vbms_permissions'] which made the quota show up, but alas it doesn't show the received attachment images yet.

Can anyone tell me why the installer seems to start at 7% and does not progress after that. I have checked use vebose output and I have checked with my web hosts and they confirm imap is in use. I have read most of the postings here and seems the question has been asked many times but not answered. If you need to take a look let me know.

i have unlimited email accounts at my domain does anyone know if this will utilize my unlimited emails with my host? Im just trying to figure out a way to intergrate the unlimited accounts in to my forum so that my users have a you@Domain email account.

Technically, it only uses one of your cPanel email accounts, it won't deliver mail to addresses that actually exist as cPanel POP3 mail accounts.

So.. your server receives an email addressed to joebloggs@domain. It checks to see if joebloggs exists as an email account. If it doesn't, the email is sent to the default responder, which is set to send the email to the vBMS Processing script. vBMS then delivers it to your user within vBMS.

(If the account does exist as a cPanel Account, vBMS wont get it.)

*edit* This is all from memory. My aplogies if I got some of that wrong.

Hrm I havn't had that bug, can you explain what you mean by "reply and attach an image"?

Do you have CPanel for your hosting? What you want to do, these instructions are for CPanel, would be to log in to your backend ( http://www.yoursite.com:2082 ) and then go to Mail and then click Default Address. A Catch-All / Default Address basically says "Any email that is sent to @yoursite.com, if it doesn't match existing email accounts set up in CPanel, I will forward it to the default/catch-all address." My alias address for vBMS is administrator@mysite.com, if I go in to Thunderbird and try inserting an image inline or attaching an image to the email, then send it to the administrator@mifbody.com. When I switch over to vBMS I noticed 1) there's a column with no title and is only about 10px wide, I'm *guessing* this is where the attachment column is? When I view the image, it's just the text, no images.

Edit: Added screenshots to make it more precise. When I sent the email in Thunderbird, it prompted whether I wanted to send it in Plaintext & HTML, Plaintext Only, or HTML Only. I selected HTML only and hit send. Note in the 2nd screenshot that the column is blank.

It seems to be a problem with your mail server(not the websites mail server but the one used by thunderbird),not processing attachments correctly. Also thats rather strange the way the [img] tag is not being displayed correctly....
Try this fix I whipped up:

That should convert any <img> tags in the message into correct [img] tags.

catch all email is correct, i can see cronjob in Checking Logs too and there are some Logs marked, but how to repair it

I can connect to the server just fine, but it won't get any email!
Check the "Mail checking logs" in your ACP (under the vBulletin Mail System area). If there are no logs, then the cronjob probably isn't running. If there are logs, see if there are any errors in there. If it's checking the mail account fine and simply says there are no messages, check with a webmail to see if the catch-all account is even receiving mails. If the webmail shows that the account has mail stuck in it and vBMS isn't picking them up, but vBMS is saying it's checking the account alright and finding 0 messages, then you're likely connecting to the wrong account. By doing these steps, you should at least be able to figure out where the problem is occurring.

I have tested, install took a while and currently I'm getting an error in the logs:

happens to me as well. when flood check is on after the member sends 1 email he cant send another being told he has to send 1 per minute although 1 min has already passed.

I'm really sorry to have to let this go, because I muchly enjoyed working on this project while I could. However, I was even sorrier to have to let it sit in the state it's been in for the past few months, and as another developer has stepped up and offered to continue improving this hack, I've passed it on to "blogtorank." Please welcome them; I imagine they'll be posting about said developments soon enough. In the end, I'm glad to see this able to be continued, since I know I will have no time this school year.

Will do Jesse, we will post here on the upcoming hack of this, we are now in development ALREADY after 2 hours of PM'n one another, we have already rewritten a ton of the code and are working this off the PHP IMAP Module already and moving forward with this on a whole new approach for the better so it supports EVERY language :)

I look forward to working with everyone, so please everyone don't bombard us with PMs or how long till this and that, let us do our thing and we will have a better turn out after the total rewrite of this. Our main goal is to get it off the IMAP module for one, and putting a lot of advancements into this to where it supports just about every language out there.

Status reports:

1. Built a whole new e-mail class
2. Tested by building a new product that'll send e-mail to PM supporting all text and html, html is converted to bbcode
3. Built our own class for html to bbcode

That's in a weeks time so far in between our other projects!

Now that being said it's about the same setup:

1. Create a catch-all account, forward all catchalls to this one account
2. New script will then handle the delivery to the end-user (member)
3. That's it :) No needing to worrying of having so many requirements met before installing! Plug-in and go is the key here.

I can connect to the server just fine, but it won't get any email!
Check the "Mail checking logs" in your ACP (under the vBulletin Mail System area). If there are no logs, then the cronjob probably isn't running. If there are logs, see if there are any errors in there. If it's checking the mail account fine and simply says there are no messages, check with a webmail to see if the catch-all account is even receiving mails. If the webmail shows that the account has mail stuck in it and vBMS isn't picking them up, but vBMS is saying it's checking the account alright and finding 0 messages, then you're likely connecting to the wrong account. By doing these steps, you should at least be able to figure out where the problem is occurring.

I had that problem. It seems when i went to the url

It really amazes me how people don't take the time to read. I have this hack installed on a live site with no problems. And yes, I had problems with the install. How did I fix them? I read everything from page 1 and tried a few of the fixes offered up by other members until I got one that worked for me.

As much as I would like to see this get a full release, I have my doubts that it will happen... But, I just deal with the parts I can't offer my members and still offer them free e-mail... They are happy, I am happy...

Too many people expect a million dollar mod for free and complain when they don't get it.... Yet, they still run Windows and pay for it....

Thanks to everyone that has worked on this project to make it functional enough to at least send and receive e-mail. And for the effort of all the coders that made their own little fixes then posted them here for everyone....

I exchanged a few emails with Socketmail recently and I was told they no longer support vBulletin integration

Here's a glitch I am having....

It runs great even on vB3.7 Beta 5 for me except when local users in the Forum send to other local users in the Forum the message body isnt picked up and appears blank, but if you send an email from outside to the Forum email address or send one out from local to external, all appears fine.

Anyone any pointers as to why this would be happening?

tried to recompile apache again, upgraded from php4 to php5 with imap included, and problem remains.... after that i asked my host to do it for me, to check if anything was failing, and they recompile it again....
but problem is still the same... checking willitrun.php i get:

Krofh, I just read thru 14 of your support pages and plan to read the rest -> I see a problem I am experiencing has already been addressed with "options.zip" on page 11/12. Thanks for a great hack, I am running vb 3.6.2 with PHP Version 4.4.7 and your VBMS installed flawlessly and nominally seems to be working fine on my excellent Surpass Hosting shared server . . .

. . . with one exception! I am not good at all with php OOP and "imap_headerinfo" does not support the header "Envelope-to:" which both my servers use to forward mail to VBMS. In other words with the original charter & surpass server address left remaining in the "To" and "cc' fields VBMS will not pick up my forwarded mail at all and leaves it sitting there in my "catch all" account untouched or worse, depending on settings, DELETED. Anything mailed directly to a user alias is getting thru just fine which leads me to believe it's not really a VBMS flaw but a simple shortcoming I have tried for two weeks now to overcome myself . . .

. . . with still no success!

QUESTION! I do know how to use "imap_fetchheader" instead to garner the mailbox/host string needed which is embedded in "Envelope-to" but I don't know the php header class/object code needed to update the imap_headerinfo "to" address so VBMS can detect it.

UPDATE! PROBLEM FIXED
I settled on the roundabout method and using substr()s returned via "imap_fetchheader($connectionhandle, $i)" placed the Envelope-to: aliases[$i] into a separate array which thru simple substitution code in "vbms_functions_checkmail.php" I was able to get VBMS to pickup my forwarded mail no problem!

Well from what I can tell by looking at the code this error is due to wrong setting for your POP3 Server.

That is the comments in the file where the error is occuring. You might recheck your POP3 settings and go from there.

I wrote a plugin for a friend's site awhile back that would fetch your MSN Messenger contacts and invite them all to the forum... unfortunately this was the biggest obstacle, and what we discovered after about three solid weeks of looking into it that is that they wanted us to pay a rather significant amount of money to be whitelisted. On the other hand, I'm affiliated with other sites that don't pay, but I think in those cases there are thousands of users clicking the "not spam" notifications on the emails.
Not sure completely if I'm all right on this information, but either way my experience with trying to get emails to Hotmail/MSN was pretty shitty. I recommend an Internet-wide boycott.

Ive just tried sending an email from my @mysite.com which is set up in outlook express and even that dosent get through. I can understand hotmail need to stop spam, but blocking every single address unless its on a white list is quite excessive.

Although I have been encountering some errors, I have been working with my hosting company to correct these problems, the IMAP system is a pain in the arse...

But once that was correcte, I have been stopped by yet another delema!

The images attached below will show the information that I am entering (confirmed by my hosting company) is correct! And still I am encountering the error mentioned in your original post claiming to be incorrect login information.

Please advise further on what I am to do to correct this, I would be happy to give you my admin login & any other necessary information to correct this issue for me. I am of extreme frustration with this project, and wish to finish it so that I can move onto other projects...

if you send message to gmail, it will broken and knowing from (unknown sender) in gmail

FYI: Just purchased and installed SocketMail per a suggestion to replace this mod, unfortunately it does not work with vBulletin at all, the last supported version is 3.0.3. :(

Does anyone know of a way to remove the "Email" link from the navbar?

Ive got a few members testing it out and dont want everyone to see the email link before its rolled out. Or failing that, making it so its only visable to Admins/Super mods.

To remove the email link from the navbar you need to edit the navbar template and comment out the email section.

Firstly when I send an email using VBMS it gets sent to the recipient twice. How can I change this so that the mails get sent once ?

Also when I send an email to a Gmail account the email displays all the HTML in the message body. I think this is a Gmail setup problem but I'm not sure. Any ideas ?

Rogue, taking out the "Email" will remove the menu access as well. Rather than remove thru comment out (ie:"<!-- -->") in the navbar wrap a condition around it instead like:

I'd like to use the stock notifications that comes with 3.7.0 (runs fine by the way) but not sure where or how to add in but still leaves the problem of where to place the menu access.

Had to fix line 790 of vbms_class_installer.php

replace:

with

To get it to install properly.

If you look at original hack, I was the one to originally fixed all issues (scattered in many posts) and had it worked perfectly well on my server. Unfortunately, as with all catch all email accounts, this has proven to be a major source for junk mails and I had to disable it.
