here (http://www.haitiwebs.com/) guys, if you want to see real slideshow. :D

Not for sharing.

you can kill me but you have to tell me :(

Very good job, Lionel. For all the great job you've done with that site, I can only admire you.

I had to spend $29.00 to get it going. Folks here seem to be pretty upset and demanding when they have to dish out money. The initial configuration is tedious and took me 4 days. Thanks but no thanks, I have no more energy left to go over things, specially it would have to be customized per case. Given that some people have problems with simple modules, that one will definitely overwhelm them.

On a good note it can hold unlimited amount of pictures (I have 150 currently in there) and the site opens up instantly since it does not add one single query.

Anyone wants it, would have to pay me for the install, and 4 days of work is not cheap.

Hi Lionel, I've installed everything as per your instructions, but for some reason I can't get the slideshow effect. When I click on any of the numbers or arrows, nothing happens. The first 'page' works (ie. I can click it and it takes me to the corresponding post), but I can't access any others.

Just so I'm clear, I'm supposed to make a new thread for every 'page' I want in the slideshow, and the latest attachment to the first post will be the image shown?

Also, I also don't have the solid grey bar at the bottom that stretches the length of the module like your attached images do. Mine only appears as the background for the numbers/navigation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for a great mod!

Sorry about all the questions, but I have to ask one more: is there a way to only display one 'loading' image, instead of one in the center and one at the top?

Ok, I bought the "Frontpage Slideshow" component/module combo from JoomlaWorks.

I think I may have made a mistake, as the install instructions consisted of sending me Lionel's file (above) and saying thank you.... :D

Anyway, after reading most of the posts here 10 times, I think I have a basic grasp of this. I'm stuck at the question "Identifier" in the add PHP module function of vBa CMPS. I can't leave it blank as it won't accept that. What do I put in?

I followed Lionel's statement.... but make sure you select YES for clean file output and Use Module Shell Template: NO, but I thought I'd ask if there are any other surprises or fields I need to fill in?

I also set the access for Admin only, as I suspect this isn't going to go right the first time around. :p

I'm not sure I have my forums path set right, but we'll find out, if I can get past this stage.

Thanks for any help folks can give me here ...

Badger

Ok, does anybody have any idea what I do to clear up this?

The pic shows the result of running the PURCHASED (22 Euros) Joomla code along with Lionel's slideshow.php (provide by Joomla), pointing to a single forum with just one post in it that contains 5 attached JPG files.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Did everything by the instructions, but get this error.

Warning: fopen(/home/traderre/public_html/forum/clientscript/mod_fpslideshow/mod_fpslideshow.js) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /modules/slideshow.php on line 193

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /modules/slideshow.php on line 194

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /modules/slideshow.php on line 195

It does pull one of the 3 images I uploaded in the selected forum (Image attached). The image shows up just below the error.

The error is falling on the line for the forum path. I know the forum path is correct because I uploaded a script.

http://www.traderretreat.com/forum/modules/pathinfo.php

This returned:

/home/traderre/public_html/forum/modules/pathinfo.php

So I changed what you had to:

("/home/traderre/public_html/forum/clientscript/mod_fpslideshow/mod_fpslideshow.js",'w');

Any ideas?

I just noticed something, my files came with 2 .js files.

fpss
fpss_uncut

What gives? There is no mod_fpslideshow.js

This may be the most frustrating mod I have dealt with. I run all the install, waste a full hour and then I am told "contact Joomla Works" by Lionel (thanks for the fast reply!). I go to the website and after some searching find this thread.
http://forum.joomlaworks.gr/index.php?topic=99.0

They tell you about it and say, "e-mail Joomla Works". Is there e-mail a secret? I had to do some searching of the site to find it. I will save you all some pain.

joomlaworks@gmail.com

Let me repeat this in plain English. When you buy the program from Joomla Works it will ONLY work with Joomla. Even though the company promotes this thread/mod and the integration with vBulletin, they DO NOT put the mod_fpslideshow.js file with the zip you download after purchase.

This was like a treasure hunt! I don't know why the company can't just add the file in a folder that says "vbulletin". Terrible business practice in my opinion. Hopefully this post will save some people time and Lionel should update this in the first thread so users don't have to read 18 pages to get to this.

Read the first thread again

michaelsilvia
05-05-2007, 06:59 AM
Here is your thread.

Please note: Someone has posted a pirated version of the commercial mod on this thread. So I altered this zip to remove some key codes pertaining to the original developper and sent him the full zip. He will in turn release it to you with the javascript.

Am I suppose to translate that someone posted a pirated version here into something?

To install, once you purchased the addon, upload the folder mod_fpslideshow and its content into the clientscript folder, making sure you chmod all the *.js to 777

Not here either. It says, "once you purchased the addon, upload the folder mod_fpslideshow and its content into the clientscript folder."

Is this encrypted language? Here is simple langauge:

"When you purchase the script you must then e-mail the devlopers at joomlaworks@gmail.com with your PayPal ID and they will send you the needed js file.

What am I missing?

Lionel

Well if you go to a joomla site and purchase a vb module, then God bless the vendor if he can guess that specific customer is a vbulletin customer.

michaelsilvia
05-06-2007, 02:16 AM
Go back and read my thread. If they are going to promote that they work with VBulletin then they should include the file. Just make a folder that says "vBulletin Only".

I e-mailed them yesterday and still have not received the file. So, in summary YOU are promoting this without telling people there are steps that can take days before getting this to work.

There are business men and terrible businessmen. Making people beg for a javascript file is a terrible business practice. They are proud to announce that their script works with vBulletin, but make you e-mail them to get the file. It is nice for people conisdering using this mod for Vbulletin that you have to ask for the script and then wait days for it to arrive. Full disclouse is needed.

God bless the vendor? No! Adding common sense to the vendoer would be better.

Finally, I am providing you useful feedback. Being defensive and refusing to take inputs is also a bad practice.

Lionel

if you want I could tell him to refund you and you can forget about it. So why are you complaining here? Why don't you go and complain over there?

michaelsilvia
05-06-2007, 06:09 AM
Just trying to give full disclosure so others don't go through my pain. No where in your first thread do you disclose that this could take days to accomplish. This seems fishy and a way for them to track how many people use vBulletin vice Joomla. Maybe a way to pay a commission to you? Why else would they require this terrible way of getting a mod to work with vBulletin?

By the way I still don't have the file. For those wanting to integrate this hack, know that you may have to wait days to actually get a single .js file to get it running. For some reason Lionel won't send it or attach to this thread. Makes you think.

Mike

If no one installed it i could not care so i don't have to read non senses like yours.
In fact, me I am no longer using it myself, and not supporting it either. Got much better than that in my home. Maybe I should just remove it and save myself some aggravations?

Had you been smart when you purchased it, then you would have been all set. Now this is the week end, you have to pay for your lack of judgement and wait.

I hope you'll be able to install it without any problems, because you are on your own.

By the way, I still don't have the file.

I hope you get them next year :-)

I hope so also, that way people can see the true value of paying for this mod. It is 50-50% if you ever get the final piece to make it work, if you don’t mind wasting days of your time.

hey lionel

i am redesigning my website and am still using this mod, however I would like to use the updated v1.4 version of the fps script coming from joomlaworks.org which feature the thumbnails underneath the slideshow, rather then the numbers to switch between feature stories.

i requested the updated version from joomlaworks and received the files in my mailbox today ( mod_fpsslideshow_1.4.zip and com_fpsslideshow_1.1.zip ). I'm assuming just like when i initially installed this script that the mod_fpsslideshow_1.4 contains the files that are necessary for me to get the updated script running on my website and that the com_fpsslideshow is irrelevant. my question to you is, the updated 1.4 comes with two files mod_fpsslideshow.php and mod_fpsslideshow.xml. I checked the php file and it didn't seem to have any of the vbulletin variables (forum id, limit, etc.) that your slideshow.php file has here.

from my understanding your slideshow.php file doesn't support the updated version with the thumbnails underneath and is outdated? i could be wrong, but will I need an updated version of your slideshow.php file in order to get this updated version of the script working properly with vbulletin integration? any help with this is appreciated as i understand you are no longer supporting this script, but I do want to update to the latest version available so please help me out a bit if its not too difficult and you have the time. thanks a lot, looking forward to a reply from you.

Ok, I have this running on my site now and am running into some issues:

A) The block is showing up at the very top of my site over my DHTML menu and forum header.

B) Can I edit the link that says "Latest NFL Headlines" after [read more] to be on a separate line?

C) Can the images be set to align in the middle?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you get the zip file from Joomla you are supposed to then contact the admin via email for the vBulletin version. Once you get that, you will find the "mod_fpslideshow" folder and the slideshow.php file. When you get the zip file from Joomla you are supposed to then contact the admin via email for the vBulletin version. Once you get that, you will find the "mod_fpslideshow" folder and the slideshow.php file. Upload the "mod_fpslideshow" folder in your "forums/clientscript/" folder and the slideshow.php file in your "forums/modules" folder. Follow Lionel's instructions from there and enjoy.

OK, I have received the vb version but it still doesn't work (www.zockos.de).
Could it be a version issue or does someone have an idea?

Many thanks in advance...Frank

OKAY... AFTER MUCH TRIAL AND ERROR... I FINALLY GOT THIS SHyT TO WORK.. IN THE EMAIL YOU GET FOR THE VB VERSION "AS WELL AS HERE" INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT CLEAR... SO HERE YOU GO!!!!!!

1. Ignore any files and information in this thread period! (its actually quite useless)
2. Once you get the VB version in your email follow the below instructions

Assuming the path to your board is http://www.yoursite.com/board/

1. Upload the entire mod_fpslideshow folder to the root of your board (ex : /board/mod_fpslidehow/

2. now, open the mod_fpslideshow.php file

a. change the path to >>>> '/board/'
b. add the forum ids you will be using ex: (119,80,22)
make sure you already have test threads created in these forums prior to adding this to your modules folder with thumbnails already attached to those threads and allowing guest downloading access via the admincp forum permissions.

b. find in mod_fpslideshow.php
$use_mootools = 1;
and change the "1" to 0; or you will get java errors and the slide will not work

3. Upload the mod_fpslideshow.php to your board/modules folder via ftp.

now, in your admincp cmps
>>modules >> add module >> php file
add the mod_fpslideshow.php

title = news
1. identifier = fpslideshow
2. clean file output? = yes
3. use module wrapper? = no

save, then activate the file on your cmps.

Since I am a designer not a coder, my tutorial may be a little off... so please reply here with any questions or problems and unlike some, I will be glad to help.

Question.....should the mod_fpslideshow folder be in the forums/clientscripts folder? I see you have it outside of that folder.

concepts
06-30-2007, 05:25 PM
I didn't put it in the clientscripts folder mainly because the script would not work properly for me within it during the intial trial and error runs. since I read the directions as "put it in the root of your VB folder" I took it as just that.. and voilla! it worked..

We will get you set straight :)

my version :
"Frontpage Slideshow" for Joomla! 1.0.x - Version 1.6 (vBulletin Version)
what are you using?

I spent most of my day looking more into how this functions so I can split the code for use with other modifications I can working with including an additional slide I have running below it :) my site will be up tomm so you can see it..

but let me know your issue.. I don't have a test site to work it.. but I am pretty good with analyzing and fixing issues... its my "current job"

Went through all the steps, and the module shows up but there are no pics or text.

When you say...

with thumbnails already attached to those threads and allowing guest downloading access via the admincp forum permissions.

Are you talking about 'Attachments'? Can you please elaborate on this.

Thanks.

Edit: I know you are not a coder, but I'm using vBa and placed it in the center column. Is there any way to 'left' or 'right' justify the module within the center column?

For each thread id that you have listed in your mod_fpslideshow.php
go into the admincp >> click on forum permissions >> edit that thread to allow guests to download attachments.

if its in the center column, do you just want it to expand to match the width of the other center columns like on my site (which is now up if you want to view it?
www.UrbanAU.com

can you post a link to your site also.. I can pretty much see what the issue is by looking at it.. as I probably went through every possible issue 100x times before figuring it out..
and the crazy part is... after trying about 50times.. I came home drunk one night, sat at my computer.. and got the dang thing to work. (then passed out) hehe.

Discussion Forum (http://www.u-connex.com)

What I was trying to do was place an advertisement to the right of the slideshow while keeping both (the ad & slideshow) within the center column.

I changed forum permissions so guests can download attachments.

..."then passed out" lol :D

Edit: The forums I am trying to pull the text and image from have GARS just FYI. I don't think that would be a problem though.

ROFL!! drunken tech is the best!! :p anyway.. WOOT!! finally got it to work. I'll share since Lionel is support misery personified.

I followed your instructions and got it to ALMOST work. I email jooomla for support (to which FOTIS was very responsive at trying to help with the issue :D ).

as it turned out... either I was confused by part of the language of your post or its just different for mine... I found out that the mod_fpslideshow folder was in the wrong place, as the mod_fpslideshow folder needed to be in the root folder of my site (same LEVEL as one's forums FOLDER), NOT same as the root of one's "board". (I assumed by "board" you meant "forums".)

ie: mine had to be at:
/home/dbname/public_html/mod_fpslideshow/

NOT '/forums/mod_fpslideshow/' as said. (again, I assumed by "board" you meant "forums".)

whatever!! all working yay! (yet to play with it and tweek it etc... just pysched its working.)

Differnt question, concepts.... LOVE your cmps set up, concepts . can I ask... what did you use for your "The Sexy Women of UrbanAU" section? is that slideshow again with different settings? if so, can I ask how did you managed to do that?

Anyway, thanks again for your help, concepts, couldn't have done it without your instructions (and Fotis!). Lionel is useless as usual.

May be a simple question, but..

1. Did you set the forum id's in your php file ex :(121,19,22,100)
2. Did you go into admincp, set forum permission per each of those id's to allow registered and non registered members to be able to "download attachments?"
3. After those are completed.. lastly did you create a test thread?

if yes to all three.. then I will have to take a look at your php file and see what the issue is.. your about 99.9999 percent there!

:)

I just wanted to post this instruction here from Joomla direct. This might clear a few things up for everyone having problems and avoid reading so much for so little.

Dear friends,

We wanted to let everyone know that we have updated the vBulletin version of Frontpage Slideshow to act independently and enjoy all the goodies of the Joomla! version. The new Frontpage Slideshow 1.6 for vBulletin is now officially released and supported by JoomlaWorks!

If you want to get hold of this modification, simply e-mail JoomlaWorks, mentioning the e-mail address you used with Paypal, when you bought the "Frontpage Slideshow". Then, we will send you back the corresponding package. If no Paypal address is mentioned, e-mails will be disregarded without notice.

INSTALLATION & USAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Once you receive the vBulletin package, extract it to the root of your vBulletin website. You will need to include the mod_fpslideshow.php file in vBulletin (instead of the slideshow.php file that Lionel originally created). You do not need the Joomla! version for that, everything you need is included in this .zip file you will get.

If you extract to a folder different to the vBulletin script folder, make sure you set the correct path in the mod_fpslideshow.php file.

Open up the mod_fpslideshow.php file and set the proper content forum IDs as well as set the slideshow variables (they are commented to help you out). You obviously need to have posts with attached images in these forums, so that they can be used as slides.

If you face any issues do not hesitate to contact us.

We are now mainting a vBulletin customers list and we will email you from now on all new updates automatically.

Alright guys, through Concepts A+ help it is finally working for me. I didn't have a forum root and that what was getting me. Here's some feedback as to what was the problem.

For those of you who don't actually have a forum root.. which means you don't have yoursite.com/forums don't try to point it to a file...

yoursite.com/forums.php

...however if your forums are basically located directly at yoursite.com you leave the path as is vbpath=' '; just leave it blank so it can be read directly from your site root.

Alright, where to start. I thought it would be a smooth process when I figured out to email them for the vBulletin file. Wrong answer.

I don't know if I got the correct file or not. I can't even open it, unless I'm not supposed to. Maybe I'm just supposed to upload it to the root.

Following the instructions here, I really don't know where I'm supposed to change the path to >>>> '/board/' in the mod_fpslideshow.php file. And also the forum ids. Not sure where in the coding to add these.

Any advise is greatly appreciated by anyone. I'm sorry for sounding like such a lost newbie, but for the most part, I am. I've gotten the site to where it is, but for some reason, this is really confusing to me.

Have you taken a look at the file? You're supposed to be able to open it. I like to use Wordpad. The vBulletin settings are located near the top. You can change the path, ids, etc in the file. All the parameters are labeled with notes to help guide you.

I just got the program yesterday, I love it. I am having a little problem thou. The skin I use is fixed, in 1024x768 the slideshow looks perfect. However in any other resolution there is a very noticable gap. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to maybe put the slideshow into a module of some sort.

Take a look

You'll need to edit the 'mod_fpslideshow' file accordingly. Where it says Height and Width, just edit the number to the right of it to your liking.

The slideshow file isnt the problem. The image i attached is how it looks in most browsers. In 1024x768 it looks fine. The problem is I cant seem to put the Slide show into a module so it has a black background like everything else.

I don't really understand what you are saying. The purpose of this hack is to take the slideshow and put it into a module for your CMPS. If you are trying to change the colors of something then just edit your CSS file accordingly.

Yeah, Lionel hasn't updated the instructions, but the correct instructions are posted by Concepts Here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=139529&page=20). Sorry for any confusion.

Hello,

I'm having alot of trouble changing the news article title from black to white. I noticed "BlueSteel" also had the same problem. (His conversation starts on page 16 of this thread)

I've modified the bottom of mod_fpslideshow.css file and I still cannot change the news article color from black to white. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You might just be editing to wrong line. Where it says

Of course change the color to your coice. ;)

UNINSTALLED - the slideshow really messed up some of the other controls on my site and I never could get this into it's own module. For a paid mod, not this one but the slideshow, it's not as intuitive as it should be. I just don't feel you should pay for something with so many little issues.

I'd assume it would be the same as adding another module to your CMPS. However, I haven't used vbPortal so I'm not familiar with it.

Thanks alot for yor response but I tried that, and it didn't change the color of the font. I could change the font size and style, but not the color using your method.

However, by accident I found that (in mod_fpslideshow.php) changing:

$show_title = 1 // Show the slide title?
$show_introtext = 1; // Show the slide text?
$show_readmore = 1; // Show the slide 'read more' link?

to

$show_title = 0 // Show the slide title?
$show_introtext = 0; // Show the slide text?
$show_readmore = 1; // Show the slide 'read more' link?

Made the Font turn white. I was actually trying to turn off the news title and instead it made the font turn white. Call it a fluke or glitch, but I'm happy. Thanks for your help.:)

Erm what do you mean by upload the module & install it? There is no product to import? I'm confused and I have a client that has purchased this script and I need to install it on his vb forum. So if there is a link for the product to import or a little bit more clear how to on where to install that would be great.

1. Upload the entire mod_fpslideshow folder to the root of your board (ex : /board/mod_fpslidehow/

2. now, open the mod_fpslideshow.php file

a. change the path to >>>> '/board/' or leave blank if your forum is located in the root.
b. add the forum ids you will be using ex: (119,80,22)
make sure you already have test threads created in these forums prior to adding this to your modules folder with thumbnails already attached to those threads and allowing guest downloading access via the admincp forum permissions.

b. find in mod_fpslideshow.php

$use_mootools = 1;

and change the "1" to 0;

or you will get java errors and the slide will not work

3. Upload the mod_fpslideshow.php to your board/modules folder via ftp.

now, in your admincp cmps
>>modules >> add module >> php file
add the mod_fpslideshow.php

title = news
1. identifier = fpslideshow
2. clean file output? = yes
3. use module wrapper? = no

save, then activate the file on your cmps.

I hope that clears up the confusion MP.

Thanks, this is supposed to be used only with the vbadvanced CMPS system? If so do you know if there is something that would just put this on the front of a regular forum without the portal option?

Erm, I'm sure it could be used with any CMPS, but I haven't tried it so...not quite sure. I don't know of anything that would place this on a non portal page. Sorry. :(

What you could do is just install the CMPS on the forum itself and display just this module, but I take no responsibility if you choose to do so. lol.

OK I have questions about this step here. 1) there is no path to modify in the file & 2 there is no place to put forum ids. I need you to be more specific like what is the code for this?

EDIT: Found these things in the slideshow.php file that is for download here.

EDIT 2: Ok this did not work I need specific instructions for install. There are 2 different files you say to modify stuff ina file that is not in that file and its in the attached file for this module instead. I need to know exactly how to get this to work in CMPS.

The forum ID's and File Path are located in the file - mod_fpslideshow.php

This file is included in the add-on you purchased from Joomla.

Here's a snippet of what it should look like.
// vBulletin Settings
$forumid = array(1,2,3,etc); // Set forum IDs here.
$limit = '8'; // Limit the displayed slides
$vbpath = ''; // Path to vBulletin, e.g. "forums/", or leave as is for root.

You shouldn't have to edit the file you downloaded from this thread.

If I were starting this from scratch, I'd just head to Joomla and dload their package for vb. Very easy to install with instructions.

Figured out myself how to install the newest version into a vba block. Tweaked the look a tad. Wallah.

I accomplished the look with one set of tr/td tags and I switched out the default slideshow background image. It would take a novice no time at all.

Basically it is calling the wrong file in teh browser to view anything. The php code has a clause in it that will not allow you to see the contents of it in the browser because you are trying to go directly to the file instead of going through the chain of links so to speak. In order for it to work with vbulletin you will need to contact the Joomla works people where you bought the script from and ask for an upgrade for the vbulletin package. They will mail it to you after verifying that you purchased the product with them.

Let me clarify on my own position about this particular system. I'm still having the same problem with this. I have just a blank page. We had to disable it completely. I have followed all the instructions and variations of instructions on the pages here and still get the same thing. No matter where I put the directory I get a blank page. I am using the module for CMPS and we have CMPS installed. We also got tghe updated files from teh Joomla Works people. I really need to get this working.

as it turned out... either I was confused by part of the language of your post or its just different for mine...

I had the same issue...thanks to you, it's running.

Still cannot get this to work. This is extremely frustrating for something that was a paid for thing and really buggy. :(

I've edited the mod_fpslideshow.php file to reflect the forum id's, and the path. The path is in the root of the web site. So there is no change that needs to go there. The mod_fpslideshow directory has been uploaded to the forum root and as I said before the forum is the actual web site so its uploaded in the root of the site. I've even CHMOD the folder mod_fpslideshow to 777 thinking this might be a prob as well, nothing no help at all. I have made a module in CMPS according to the directions and set it to be the middle (center) module on the front page. I still get a blank page, its nothing and white I've attached a screen shot of it. I'm using Firefox for a browser if this helps at all. As long as I have this slideshow enabled I get the blank picture. If I take it off the front page then the rest of the page shows just fine. We really need this to work and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
